  1. I ran this scenario by my wife and her reply? She blinked, furrowed her brow a bit, and "wow, really?" She's the sweetest, most responsible person I know, and she doesn't get it. My reply would have been, "Get dressed, I'll call for both of us."
  2. Outstanding Line of bikes in their day. Had a 350 and friends who had 500's. Loads of fun and once resurrected could run a very long time.
  3. Yeah, what Earl said. I like to ride with folks, but I ride for me.
  4. Until I saw the pics and condition of the bike I found myself in an unusual place on this board. Pretty much in total disagreement with everyone. Why should he go down in price? Again, before I saw that it was a pile. You couldn't get my 86 for $3000 without the training wheel kit. And me being me when I have something up for sale I set a fair price so why should I go down in price? In the spirit of the haggle I may "toss in a little something" or (and) drop a token amount if you bargain your way there. I'm also the guy that has left an insulting offer standing in my driveway. Went back into the house with him standing there. Like when the guy offered me $500 for my 80 GS 1100. For crying out loud, I had spent $200 having the seat recovered, and for the work done that was a steal. 36 MM flat slides, all new tires, brakes, chain and sprockets, yada yada yada. Turn key and go. Wanted $1200. Would have taken $1150 and tossed in a Givi tail trunk with quick release. I don't mind that I still have it. Next year I will start taking it to local car and bike shows. My 33 year old daily rider. How many of you are going to drop below what you actually want when you sell? Have to look for a getting off the soap box icon.
  5. Snotcicles are a badge of honor! I have ridden wheelers, ATV's to those of you not from Northern NY, doen to 15 below (F) and snowmobiles even colder. I stop riding my bikes when they start to use salt. And don't get them out till it is washed off the roads. Need to move South someday.
  6. Garden of the Gods is incredible. Lived in Denver and the Springs for about a year . Have always wanted to go back for a.visit. Thanks for the pics.
  7. Thank God !! For a moment there I thought you had bought a 2nd Gen. Thought we would have to have an intervention.
  8. Here in my area more stations are replacing ethanol premium with non ethanol. At a somewhat higher price of course. Most stations that have it are selling 91 octane non ethanol. In anything that the gas does not sit around for a long time I have had little to no issues. My chainsaw has been a PITA though. White "sugary" looking junk in the carb and tank till I started using sta bil and K 100 religiously in it. It gets home owner use so it sits a lot. My GS 1100 just got the winter fuel load. I add recommended amounts of K 100, Marvel Mystery Oil, and Sta-Bil, then fill the tank and run it for a bit. I have had 0 spring starting issues since and have yet to have to service a carb since doing this. They start in the spring and run decent. Going to do the same with my VR. The VR is not going to sit as long as the GS though. Still getting it out now and then. Weather permitting. It's going t be a long winter.
  9. :goodpost:Probably the biggest thing there is clean the seating surface and the clean oil on the gasket. If the old filter comes off real tough be sure to check that all the gasket came off. The only thing I would say a bit different is I never use a wrench to install. Snug the new filter just enough to seat it and then 1/8 to 1/4 turn by hand. Years back I was an asst manager at a Valvoline Instant Oil Change. My buddy Pete )manager) and I worked the day time ourselves and had auto shop students for the afternoon / evening volume. Some days might do 50 bottoms a day (BE NICE!!!) Bottom being drain oil, change filter, check differentials, etc. On our repeat customers filters usually came off by hand using a rubber glove for grip.
  10. He lives the same kind of place that I do. We lock our doors when we go on vacation. Key stays in the bike and my car. Wifey does take hers out. As for carrying a weapon on the bike. Long guns are legal more places and a .357 lever action rifle is a nice unconcealed carry. Barrel as short as 16.5 inches are legal with no permit. Or an empty rifle boot may make the rat bAst@&? think twice.
  11. And the speed rating is for continuous or sustained use. Developed in the 80's in Europe to designate tires for autobahn speeds. A short term blast above the tires rated speed is no problem. 2nd gens don't worry much about that anyway.
  12. Got mine from Crutchfield. FAST to ship and a second pair were like half price. They do highlight the limitations of my first gen stereo. (thank God it's more than made up for with abundant horse power ) I msay end up removing the radio/amp and CB in favor of a modern day high power 4 channel stereo. But I'm having a hard time finding one with a cassette deck,,,,,,,,

    Fix Cleaner

Such problems can be avoided all together simply by running Linux (Ubuntu rocks) Although the last time I used it it was a bear to dual boot with Win 7. 7 simply does not want to have another OS around.:thumbdown:to micro$oft
  14. Option 1.
  15. Godspeed and prayers said. Thankfully the injuries are no worse than they are. The learners permit should be history. I hope Larry retains Dewey, Screwem, and Howe Attorneys at Law.
  16. I would actually buy 5 of the stickers.
  17. Light - A - Holic In the last month I have added 3/4' 3 watt LED's to the back of my mirrors, a 12 LED strip (white) running lights and an 18 LED amber strip for turn signals to each side of my fairing. I added 3 12 inch red LED strips to the bottom rear reflector, stuffed the saddle bag side reflectors with LED strips, and added 12 inch yellow strips to the saddles bags as additional signal lights. I also added 30 watt Trail Tech HID lights mounted to the crash bars. A lot of :mo money:but also a lot of bright white light. There will be more to come over the long cold Northern NY winter I'm afraid. Once I got started,,, I intend to remove the reflector from the tail trunk and turn it into stop/turn/ tail light. I found an LED strip that flashes and oscillates like the light on the front of KIT. Might make a good (or tacky?) trunk brake light. And I know, I know, a reply to
  18. When you get there I hope it's even nicer than you thought.
  19. I just saw a picture on here or The Ventureres of just such a "pipe shop" collector. One thing I was thinking of is having a set made that connect the back cylinders to one side and the fronts to the other. My thinking is that would make for easier removal. Pros or cons? I just scored a mint set of Street Glide take offs I want to try. And if anyone is interested in another set they can be had for $50 to $75 (I would have to ask him to be sure.) Getting close to down time season here it seems. In the 30's tonight.
  20. They also made a ZL1000 that was shaft. And Kawi also made several other shaft drive KZ models. Search the VIN on line.
  21. Just how hot will the ballast get? I mounted mine to the inside of the fairing with 2 sided tape. (It's right under my left front turn signal) I haven't lit the lamp yet because I still need to remove my dash, take it apart, and jumper the circuit board. Something I am not looking forward to.
  22. I am among a growing number of folks that would, but can't afford a new anything anymore. And my wife and I work full time. ( I make half of what I did in 09) If I could afford a new VR I wouldn't buy what they offer now. It would take a real stereo ABS, stock HID lighting. At least.
  23. Holy crap! I always give a bill of sale when I sell, but never bothered to keep a copy for myself. I never even pictured a scenario like that. I sure will from now on, and maybe get a driver license number on it, so as to not end up .
  24. I am looking forward to next weeks bike project. I hope it goes better than the HID conversion,,,,,, The CFO approved the purchase of the Banshee air horn kit. In theory I will still have a friendly toot option and air horn from hell both from the stock horn button. One of my crack pot thoughts is to mount it to the front forks either with a fork clamp or attaching it to the fork brace. Either way I think I want it between the forks. Assuming of course it clears the fairing when the front end compresses. It will probably end up replacing one of the stock horns though.
