  1. '87, sat 4 a long time, 14k miles Had issue with fuel in carbs that a $600 injection into the dealers retirment fund did not cure! Flushed w/carb cleaner/blew everything out and then washed with engine cleaner Now no spark at plugs. Backtracked all steps cleaning and drying e/thing, still no joy! Juice at coils though. AND NOT RIDING ON HOLIDAY WEEKEND! HELP!
  2. I know that somewhere in this site is a thread about how to properly clean a windshield and what to use but I can't find it. I have read about the use of Pledge cleaner and a 210 cleaner are these good products and are there others? Has anyone used Rain X to let the rain run off. I worry about getting a rainbow effect when the Sun hits it. What does everyone carry with them in there bags for cleaning?
  3. This time of year alot of people will be doing various things to their bikes or other equiptment, in order to get them ready for next year... Make sure you wear proper saftey gear for the job at hand... Specifically....saftey glasses. I just got a shot of carb cleaner in both eyes after having worn them all day. Really wanted to paint my 612 Dozer blade today, had it all stripped down and took the glasses off (they were fogging up) to finnish up the corners and hard to reach areas with my scaler. When i went to clean the debri off of the scaling gun, you guessed it, the carb cleaner went in to my eyes and right now I'm hoping the damage is not permanent... Wear the saftey gear all the time, and above all else .... Know when to call it quits...
  4. Skid

    Fix Cleaner

Does anyone have any knowledge about the Fix Cleaner? Just wondering if it works, or does someoe have another idea to help clean up a pc that is having some high cpu useages...
  5. I took the air cleaner off today looking for a gas smell. The seal on #1 carb is not leaking (another thread covers epoxy sealing a small carb leak) and I found no gas anywhere. Started the Beast and watched for anything. #1 and #2 carbs want to puff a little white smoke (vapor?) when the throttle is twisted moderately hard from idle. All four slides are slightly open (1/4") when the engine is not running (is this normal?). There is wet oil on the tops of #1 and #2 carbs. I can see where it is coming out of the air breather and working its way through the air cleaner boots. I put a small air filter (see photo) inside the air box to try and slow this down. OK all you experts . . . Why does my VR smell like gas?
  6. Last Sunday wasn't such a nice day in the northeast. Desided good day to do a little cleaning. Got to Lowe's when it opened and picked up a few supplies: Heavy duty ecologically friendly cleaner. An aluminum, chrome and stainless steel cleaner polisher. 00 grade steel wool rated pads. Got home, made some coffee, got some tunes going in the garage, parked my rump on the floor and got at it. Front wheel Picture 1 - Before Picture 2 - After heavy duty cleaning Picture 3 - After maybe 10 minutes of aluminum cleaner and scrubbing Pics 4 and 5 - Worked on front right fork too. Front wheel (rims only) + front right fork = 4 hours It ain't new but pretty happy with results. Even looks faster. Me thinks me needs a few more rainy days though.
  7. Well now that I have my "flashing warning light" issue corrected, it's time to move on. I'm trying to get the CLASS to work. I'm getting an E1 error. According to the manual, it may be a connection problem somewhere. I guess I'll just start and the front and work my way back, cleaning all connections with contact cleaner. This bike has been setting for a very long time so I'll probably need to go through everything. Is there anything I need to be aware of?
  8. A few months ago I posted that I was having carb issues with my 83. With lots of encouragment from you folks and some very good pic's that Dingy supplied I tackled a carb clean. Turns out the worst part of the job was the throtle linkages. I went through each carb one at a time that way I always had three to look at if I had a part left over. Turns out most of my jets were either plugged or partly plugged. She started right up, and almost with no choke. Every thing seemed good on the center stand. I put a license plate and insurance on it yeasterday. Again she started with very minimal choke, and off I went. SHe had a bit of a stumble at around 3 thousand RPM but would work through it to the point of hang on were going some where in a hurry. I dumped some injector cleaner in this morning and again she started with little choke. ( temp's low 50's) I used injector cleaner because I had no sea foam. I went for about a 45 mile ride. She seems to have worked the stumble out and is working great. Thanks for all the help and Dingy for the Pic's. I am going to try to attach a couple of pic;s of the junk that was in the carbs and jets. Tahnks again Frank
  9. Are there supposed to be any little holes that look like drill holes in the sides of the air cleaner box? I think I have about 4 or 5 of them. I didn't do it. They are in the filter area. If not, what is a good way to plug them? Duct tape? lol
  10. For those of us in the upper midwest/great lakes region- I noticed Techron brand fuel system cleaner is on sale at Fleet Farm. Ordinarily $5.95/12oz bottle- on sale at $2.50. Be a good time to bulk up on it if you're so inclined...
  11. Ok don't shoot the messenger but: Looking for a way to clean carbs and ensure jets are clear without taking carbs off... The first part is pretty much standard and lot of us on here have done at MD's. Take tank and top center air box off. Drain carbs, open 4 drain screws then close. If you take fuel line off at center rear of carbs and spray full, this will effectively place cleaner in all your carbs. let sit 30 min. drain carbs, open drain screws. (leave open) ---part I would like to add--- Take diaphram(s) and needle slides out. Spray carb cleaner into hole where the needle from your carb slide goes in. It should be your high speed jet? Spray carb cleaner into small hole inside top of carb. It should be your pilot jet? Spray carb cleaner into hole at the "T" sections of your carbs will be your overflows. Close your drain screws. Am I missing something? Can anyone add or correct any assumptions I have just made? V7goose , skydoc_17 , freebird, anyone...
  12. What vent tube exits just in front of the left air cleaner? Just wondering...thanks...JR
  13. WHEN I SAY I'M BROKE - I'M BROKE! A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner. 'Good morning,' said the young man. 'If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners... ' 'Go away!' said the old lady. ''I'm broke and haven't got any money!'' and she proceeded to close the door. Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open... ''Don't be too hasty!'' he said. ''Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.'' And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet. ''Now, if this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder.'' The old lady stepped back and said, ''Well let me get you a fork, 'cause they cut off my electricity this morning."
  14. All, I have been researching problems with lights on the bike and have narrowed it down to possibly being dirty connections. Alot of posts say to spray WD40 and contact cleaner and that does a fairly good job, but my mechanic is suggesting that the chemicals will do harm to the plastic. He suggests dissasembling the switches, using files and sandpaper and cleaning them that way (if even possible, if they all come apart). What's the skinny on this? Has anyone experienced harm by using these products? Thanks, Woody
  15. I bought an 83 with 26K miles on it back in May. It ran great for the first 1,000 miles then started missing and gas milage dropped from 38-40 to 23-26. Local dealer messed with it some but I wouldn't let them experiment on it, based on previous experience(!) with them. Ran a bunch of yamaha carb cleaner in it and it ran worse, ran some Sea Foam and it ran worse yet. Based on the exhaust I surmised it was running way to rich so I took the top off the air cleaner box and it runs better than ever! (with a lot of intake noise) It is of course running lean at times and hesitates a bit because of it but gas mileage is back and it doesn't miss & cutout. Now, I'm sure I've isolated the issue but I've no idea what to do next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  16. I grabbed a great deal on a Ultra Sonic Cleaner that was a display. Got everything but the box I think. Thing is how can I be sure it is working? I know clean something. I ran some coins thru the cycle and couldn't see any difference in them. Only used water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Thought I read somewhere that it would work. Only got 5 days to return if it don't work. Dodn't want to make mess til I really got ready to use it. Is there a simple test for it? I think it is big enough to do carbs one at a time. New Toy??
  17. Maybe I'm reading things incorrectly, but it seems that the chrome air cleaner covers don't exactly fit with the RSTD system, and require different filters? Anyone had experience with that?
  18. Can anyone recommend a good cleaner in a can? There are times that I just do not have the time to wash the bike.....how about what to clean the windshield with? Thanks in advance for the feedback!
  19. Hi all. This is my first post. I wish I had found this forum earlier. I own a 1996 RSTC that my wife and I unfortunately don't get to ride as often as we would like. I always use fuel stabilizer when we store it, but this spring when I started it, fuel was dripping from the carb area. As I said, I wish I had found this forum sooner. I assumed it was gummed up needle and seat, and although I've rebuild a few auto carbs, I've never played with these. After calling the dealer and getting a quite expensive quote, I decided I'd tackle this myself. I removed the carb assembly and I'm going to disassemble them asap. I noticed it is the first carb in line from the inlet of the fuel line that is leaking. I'm a little leery about all this and don't know if I should go all out or just remove and clean the bowl on the one I have now leaking. Also, I'm wondering about a sentence in the Yamaha service manual I purchased with the bike that says don't use any caustic carb cleaners, just use a petroleum based cleaner . I was going to soak the bodies in Delco carb cleaner over night, wash them off in hot water and soap and blow them dry. Now I'm lost as to what to do. I also will try to change the fuel filter, but it looks buried in the frame pretty good. I haven't really looked closely at that situation yet. Any advice would be appreciated. Wish I had known about simply tapping on the bowl or using sea foam (whatever that is, I'll look into that also). Thanks.
  20. Hi guys I have 2 small poblems. #1 is I have noisy front brakes. Sounds like metal on metal but when I checked the pads there was lots left. I was wonering if it is the bike cleaner I am using and thngs are just to dry. I use S100 cleaner. 2Nd Problem is when I sit on the bike the rear shock sqeaks. I tried to spray the rubber with Moovit but it still sqeaks. Is my Shock shot. Thanks Guys for all the relys. :thumbsup2:
  21. I did a valve adjustment and got it all back together and running but now my choke handle will only pull out about a 1/4 inch, not enough to really work. While the carb was off, all I really did to it was spray it with carb cleaner. I did move the pistons in and out with my finger while spraying it. Did I do something wrong? I can't see anything interferring with it on the outside. Any ideas?
  22. This bike is cleaner than most 2009's! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-VENTURE-ROYALE-TOURING-MOTORCYCLE-3K-MILES-BIKE_W0QQitemZ290415067710QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item439e16423e
  23. was just wandering if anybody knows if a set of road king mufflers can be made to fit on a 91 VR. I've cuut and drilled out my stock and although I love the sound just wanted a cleaner look. If this question has already been answerd before then I apologise. Tahnks in advance. David
  24. A lot of you folks seem to backyard mechanics like I used to be, so... My wifes 01 Nissan Altima's window washer thing is plugged. Someone told me a long time ago that you can't use a bread twisty to clean them anymore, nor a welding tip cleaner, because it will ruin them. So, how does one clean them? Or do I just have to replace it. The one on the passenger side works fine, so I know the pump, etc is okay. craigr
  25. I have a 2 cycle leaf blower that I haven't run in 2 years - it starts just fine but wants to shut down after a few minutes - perhaps Carb cleaner ?? it has fresh gas mixture with some of the OLD gas. screwed up didn't I ??
