  2. [h=2]To all my friends:[/h] I need to spend less time on the computer, so December 31st will be my last day on VentureRider.org for the year. I will return at the start of the new year on January 1st. Thank you for your understanding.
  3. My 84 Venture has aquired a little quirk. As I accelerate the battery warning comes on and the warning light will flash. Run down the road a little and it will return to normal. I can not make it happen, it seems to do it intermitantly. Any ideas?
  4. About the middle of November Janet and I are planning on a trip from Sumas Washington to Sedona AZ. We plan on going via Yakima, Boise, Salt Lake City, Flagstaff and spending a couple weeks in Sedona. Haven't decided on a return route yet. If anyone has any advice as to roads or things to see let me know. We will be taking my 4x4 with Michelin snow tires on it.
  5. I am driving down to Fayetteville Tn on Friday from Kankakee. My folks are coming from Edgewood Ky and want to meet me near or south of Louisville. Looking for a safe place to park the bike and trailer. Will return on sunday headed back northbound.
  6. Well, I have my cross country trip planned out. It goes as follows: Leaving San Jose, with overnight stops in Ely,NV- Montrose,CO - Dodge City, KS - Clarksville,AK - Baton Rouge, LA Return - Baton Rouge - Memphis - Nashville - Fort Smith, AK, Amarillo,Tx - Santa Fe,NM - Kayenta,UT - Las Vegas - Taft(to see my son) - San Jose. This is My Plan, subject to change. I will leave May 11 and return home on May 29th. My plan is to camp with an occasional hotel room mixed in. I want the outdoor experience. If any members have a spot i could camp out along the way that would be great to share some conversation(just PM me). Any ideas of any must see places along the way that would also be appreciated. Counting the days!
  7. Well I decided to go to the darkside. Found that Discount Tire had to order the tire. When it came in their machines could not install on the MC rim. I took it to a MC shop and they mounted ok but could not get it to seat. Took it to Les Schwab (closest to house) and they tried a dozen time to get it to seat with no luck. They tried so much that it started to tear the rubber at the bead. What do I do now. Tire still on the rim but not seated. Do I return the tire (if I could), try to lube up the bead with petrolium jelly (figures less harmfull to the tire) or do I just have to go to a MC tire. Thanks for the help Wayde:bawling:
  8. Sept. 30th. Oct. 1st & 2nd. Is anyone going this weekend? My wife and I will be going over Friday the 30th and return home the next afternoon.
  9. but It will be a proud day when I get to where I am going. I am going to Omaha Ne to see my son retire from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant on Friday 6-17-2011. There will be a retirement ceremony and a reception to follow. After 20 years of service and several trips back and forth to war he is finally done and safe. All the years he has been in the service I really didn't know what his career was all about, only thing he could say was it was all top secret and will tell me when he is done. I hope to find out. What's good is he will retire on Friday walk out and return on Monday 6-20-2011 with the same job at 100K a year plus his retirement. Needless to say I am proud of my son. I will post some pictures when I return on Sunday or Monday. Any members who have family in the service God bless them and may they return home safe and sound. Star4772

  11. MikeGinSC took delivery of Dream today . I hope, I know, he will enjoy her as much as I have and am so glad one of our family was able to get her. It's not a good time for me, but I will return soon. You just can't keep a good man down.
  12. I grabbed a great deal on a Ultra Sonic Cleaner that was a display. Got everything but the box I think. Thing is how can I be sure it is working? I know clean something. I ran some coins thru the cycle and couldn't see any difference in them. Only used water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Thought I read somewhere that it would work. Only got 5 days to return if it don't work. Dodn't want to make mess til I really got ready to use it. Is there a simple test for it? I think it is big enough to do carbs one at a time. New Toy??
  13. More than 65 years later... they return home. STORY
  14. FYI, I just completed a small run of Saddle Bag and trunk Liners. I will have 6 sets of 2nd Gen and 1 set of 1st Gen MKI available. I had made 3 sets of the 1st Gen MKI , but 2 have already been spoken for by 2 other VR members. All Liners are Black and made of 1000 Denier Cordura Nylon (Mil Spec)with Heavy Dury #10 zippers, sewn together with 135/138 Bonded nylon threads and Double stitched binding tape on interior edges. I did not have time to complete liners for the 1st Gen MKII due to pattern complications........(I forgot something:think:). The cost is $80.00 per set and will be deliver to MD. Any liners left over will return back to the shop and can be ordered after the 30th when BEER24/7 and return back from our vacation. BEER30
  15. Could someone tell me How to adj. the throttle cable at the carb? to tight the throttle wont return & loose makes the cruise Vary alot.
  16. The weather being so nice...and me having to go back to work today to be ready for work at 6AM in the morning. I decided to ride Black Betty to work. I do this occasionally but have to watch the weather closely since I have to stay at work for 7 days and return the 8th day. So this morning I am head to Youngsville LA (suburb of Lafayette LA) for a week of work. I usually when in the cage drive back Tuesday night and get home around midnight, but since I am riding Betty...I will spend one more night and come back the following day so I will not have to travel at night through some of the heaviest deer population in the South East. The weather for the return trip April 7th looks promising so far. So I am hoping it will be nice for the return trip. Got her all loaded up and pulling out in a few minutes. I plan on talking the long way to get in as much riding as I can. Get out of my way...here I come cages.
  17. this is going to sound like a stupid question (cause it is!) but uh... I can't seem to find the throttle return spring for an 87 mk2 on the parts fische.. anyone got a part number for it? thanks in advance, and, i'll keep looking! :edit: i'm looking at a much better fische now, and i see part 33 in the fische "housing support spring" is that what i'm looking for? (haven't taken the venture apart yet!)
  18. to the unemployment line. The Company she worked for lost the contract so the new company came in and offered her a job but cut her hours big time. Also wanted her to start 2 hours earlier. We commute together and to a different city (40 miles return). She is a hard worker so I am sure she will find something, hopefully soon. Brad
  19. Quick question: Say I purchase a home for $55,000, and I turn around and rent it for $550 per month. Neglecting taxes, insurance, etc, how do I calculate my annual return rate? Is it as simple as (550*12)/55000=12% ? I would appreciate the formula. Trying to figure out what rental rate I would have to charge to achieve a particular interest rate. I know that market conditions determine the rental rate, but I am an engineer, and I like numbers I want to know what rate a savings account would have to be to accomplish the same rate of return.
  20. Rolling out tomorrow morning for my first full trip down the parkway Been on it in sections but planning to leave Indy in the morning for a night in Gatlinburg and then off to the northeast. 21. What causes the throttle to return to the closed position once the grip is released. The new '88 I have doesn't return by itself. It's like having a throttle lock on the control. Any suggestions? Dave

  23. Ok, just got my 84 venture yesterday. Been a vstar rider till now. I have no book on this bike and i'm kind of lost as to what/where everything is. Any suggestions on where I can go to read up? Also: My throttle is "sticky" and doesnt return to normal resting position on its own which is a "royale" (pardon the pun) pain. Any suggestions on adjustments for that? Thanks!! This site is awesome a
  24. I just picked up a sweeeet 05 rs midnight venture but the man before me lowered the rear with a kit that relocated the caliper and dropped the bike almost 2 inches can I remove these parts and return the bike to stock height without purchasing more parts or is it just removing the added parts and reattaching the stock parts?? Also not sure if he lowered the front I have read on here that u can adjust the front down without parts how can I tell if this was done or how do I return it to stock height? I am 6'6" 34 inseam and need it brought up thanks for any help guys.....ride on
  25. It’s officially 50F., bright sunshine, little wind, and I still can’t ride. The road between the house and the nearest pavement is still covered in ICE and snow. What a bummer. Winter is supposed to return on Thursday, and it’s unlikely that the road will clear before we get more snow. It’s been that way all winter, when just one more day of clear weather would open the road, more snow arrives. I certainly don’t want the drought years to return, but at least we could ride in the winter then. I guess I'll be:draming: until I can
