  1. After reading all the reviews on the Morgan carbtune, I went ahead and ordered one. It seems that Morgan replaced the carbtune II with the carbtune pro, which supposedly is better. Since all the info. on this site re carb synching is based on using the carbtune II, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a difference between these two models. Thanks.
  2. Seen in testing at Yamah test track. Already have a scooter (twist and go) version on the streets in japan. also have a test mule based off an R6. Could this and the multiplane engine be the reason for the big delay?
  3. Ok folks, I got a response from Japan this evening. The company does not currently offer the diaphragm by itself. The SD1 and SD2 sets are not exactly the right size according to the manufacturer. However, based upon my request they are going to look into adding them to the line-up. I offered to purchase 100 sets of course based upon end pricing. I figure we can easily use those up if the quality is good. Now, I need a bit of research help from owners of other Yamahas. 1) Do all 1983-1993 Ventures use the same diaphragm? (I think yes except maybe the 1983) 2) What years of V-Max will these fit? I suspect 1985- almost current) 3) Is the base diaphragm the same on the 2nd Generation? 4) I see the eBay guy lists the 535 as also using these - what else may use them? For our folks in Canada and Europe - what useage would you have? If I can keep the price down to $100.00 U.S. delivered to the 48 states would it fly? I will need some numbers from y'all to make this happen. No promises here JB

  5. I'm going over to meet with my insurance agent on Wednesday to talk about my bike coverage and adding the new trailer to my policy. I have no issue with my current policy, as I have never made any kind of claim on my bikes or cars, but want to be clear on the terms he keeps bringing up in our e-mail exchanges. The term is "cash value" which I understend, if I'm correct is what it would cost to replace the vehicle or trailer at the time of loss based on KBB or other info they use. I know some of the headaches many have gone through concerning the value, based on what the bike/trailer was worth to them, compared to the insurers opinion based on their data. I try to keep a current file of bikes similiar to mine that were sold to document the prices on the current market in case I ever suffer a loss. Along with that prices of the parts and farkels I have added over the years, which adds up. I can't whine about the cost of my bike policy as it's only $269.00 a year for full coverage. I'm considering dropping my deductable to $100.00 and that would only raise me to $290.00 per year for full bike coverage, Deductable of $100.00 per vehicle as the deductable would apply to both the bike and trailer seperatley. At the current deducable the trailer (paid $250.00) would about be a wash. Any advice on how to look at this? Mike
  6. I have recently aquired a 2004 RSMV with about 20K, and have been following the forums here with great interest. I am upgrading from a Honda shadow and this is my first bike with shaft drive so I'm not sure if this is normal... I have noticed what seems to be an excessive amount of drivetrain "slop" or backlash, i guess. It is very noticable in the lower gears and makes transitioning from accel to decel very jerky. I'm also hearing a distinct banging when shifting. Actually two bangs, the first when I shift and the second when I release the clutch. I can also duplicate the bang by releasing the clutch quickly from a stop. I have read the manual and based on the location of the noise, I'm guessing either the ujoint or middle gear is the culprit. I know that the backlash in the gears can be measured and shimmed, but requires disassembly. I was wondering if this is a common problem, and if anyone has any experience with this issue? Can someone give me an idea of how much play is "normal"? For example, if I were to put it on the center stand, put it in gear and measure the total driveline slop based on how much I can turn the rear wheel, how much movement at the rear wheel would be considered excessive? Any insight would be appreciated. Jon
  7. Hi again. I have just completed a Service Chart for my RSV based upon an annual mileage of 8,000. (Chose that mileage as the highest of the three main service intervals in the manuals). It has room for six services and gives some info on measurements, volumes and part numbers etc. It is open so you can alter it to suit your particular needs. It is based upon the PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR from the owners manual. It is in a Word document format and open to all. Hope it is of use to someone else and please let me know if there are any glaring inaccuracies in it. Best Wishes. Neil. (Old Miner)
  8. I ran across this video recently, of a group of crotch rocket riders on a narrow winding road with somewhat blind turns. Can you guess what happened based on that description? 9. I'm interested in finding a set of Road King exhaust pipes for my 06 RSTD. Does anyone know of anyone or have any they might be interested in parting with? I think I need a bracket too, but I'm not sure which or where to get one. My understanding is that Road King exhausts will give me a bit of sound without putting my wallet in too much jeopordy so I'd like to give them a shot. As long as my ears won't be ringing after an hour long ride, I'd be OK. Based on what I've read on around here, quite a few folks like them and it doesn't sound like they will have any type of negative impact on the performance of my bike. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  10. I bought an 83 with 26K miles on it back in May. It ran great for the first 1,000 miles then started missing and gas milage dropped from 38-40 to 23-26. Local dealer messed with it some but I wouldn't let them experiment on it, based on previous experience(!) with them. Ran a bunch of yamaha carb cleaner in it and it ran worse, ran some Sea Foam and it ran worse yet. Based on the exhaust I surmised it was running way to rich so I took the top off the air cleaner box and it runs better than ever! (with a lot of intake noise) It is of course running lean at times and hesitates a bit because of it but gas mileage is back and it doesn't miss & cutout. Now, I'm sure I've isolated the issue but I've no idea what to do next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  11. We are always told that a car has an engine not a motor. This based on the fact that a motor runs on electricity and an engine is a based on internal combustion. So why is it called a motorcycle not an enginecycle
  12. I am a little concerned that some of the posts righting that the stoping distance are based on the tyres. My thought is that your stopping distance is based on not on your tyres, but the weight the tyres are carrying and the condition of the road at the time you knead to stop. I am one not to skid my tyres to stop the flat spot it crates is not one I want. The tyres I bye are for handling and distance do you agree.
  13. So, I was going through my parts bin and came across these. These are the original mock-up deflectors that Dan had made based on the original style. As a goof I added the diamond plate tape just to see what it would look like, since I was going to toss them anyway. They dont look too bad and I really hate throwing anything away, so, if anyone here wants these before I toss them, let me know. They are made out of the same 6061 material we are using for the deflectors that we are selling but this set was based on the stock design, not the larger set that we have.
  14. OK folks, I decided to start a new thread here instead of filling the contest thread with a lot of new discussion. The contest will be over tomorrow morning and sometime tomorrow evening, I will randomly pick a winner from all of the folks that posted their suggestions. The winner will be determined in a totally random draw and not at all based upon your recommendation for the location. Now, about that. You have all offered some great suggestions as to where to have the rally and some very strong reasons to have it there. There is one thing though that I read a few times and feel that some clarification is needed. There were at least a couple of posts that said something along the order of "we accommodated the members in the northeast this year so it should be in the west next year". Please understand, we didn't "accommodate" anybody. The reason that this years rally was held in Ontario, Canada was based on a couple of things. It was a beautiful location and a great place for a rally but the MAIN reason was that just after the Ft. Collins rally last year, a group of members from the Kitchener area stepped up and said "WE WILL DO IT". NOBODY else made that offer. They worked hard on it and just did a FANTASTIC job. That is why it was held where it was and I have no regrets about it. All your posts and suggestions for next years rally are sincerely appreciated. So, the next step is to find a group of people in one of those great areas who are willing to take the lead and make this happen. Folks, it's a LOT of hard work putting these things together. Arranging a central gathering place, host hotels, campgrounds, arranging for a wrap-up dinner, arranging for breakfast each morning for those who want it, contacting vendors for prize donations, designing and having shirts made up, collecting the money for shirts, registrations, etc. If you want to know how much work it is, just talk to Squidley and his team or Reiny and his team. So, tomorrow I will look at all the suggestions in more depth than I have so far. I saw many that I thought "YEA...that would be a GREAT place". There are enough suggestions there to choose a location for several years. Please don't be upset if your suggestion does not end up being the chosen place for 2009. My decision will be based upon not only location but WHO steps up and volunteers to do it. If nobody steps up to the place, then I will do it myself but if that ends up being the case then you can pretty much expect it to be held somewhere in Ohio. There are some great locations and great riding in Ohio and if I have to do it, it will simply have to be somewhere that I have time to visit, explore and make arrangements. Most likely somewhere close to Amish country and maybe Mohican State Park. http://www.mohicanstatepark.org/ Just some things for you to think about. I would really like to see it a bit more central. I still think that the Eureka Springs area, The Hub or somewhere in the vicinity of Branson, MO would be a great central location but I can't arrange a rally there from Ohio. As always, your comments are encouraged.
  15. All, Here is my story. Bought 2006 RSTD 4k miles. Picked up the bike and returned 2 days later with the dreadfull whine to a point it was making me cross eyed on a 120 mile quickie. Took the bike back in and the dealer did call the Yamaha Rep. This was almost 2 weeks ago. It was said they would be ordering the "I" basket. Well go in to pick up the bike this afternoon, as I was told she would be ready. Show up and oh sorry we forgot to order the gasket. Again I go home without the bike. Sadly of course. Sorry for the venting. Ok here is what I did.. Based on all the good info here I decided at this afternoons visit to ask to see the basket that finally showed up. Part # 4xy-16150-09-00 was on the box here is my sick part Number on the actual basket is 26H01 T-3. I am assuming I didn't get the famed "i" basket but instead got an "H". So in the event this is correct, any thoughts on what I should do? Should I let them move forward with the installation of the "h" if that is what it is or should I request them return the "H" and provide me an "I"? Lastly, has anyone seen any success on a "H" basket install? Based on the posts I have read, I have a gut feeling that as the letters go up, the more they have shaved off of the basket. Does anyone have any thing backing up my theroy? Most importantly though, again, any successes with the "H" and while they have not yet installed it should I push for the "I". I know I am new to this forum, but any direction/advice/Help anyone can provide would be MOST greatly appreciated. Thanks, Buckey
