  1. Hi. I found I have a slight leak from my rear wheel valve where it goes inside the rim. I managed to seal one on another wheel (I have two rear wheels and alternate them on new tyres) but this one is SOLID. It is a very slow leak but the tyre had lost a good amount of pressure since October when it was laid up. I managed to seal the first leak by removing the two locking nuts and cup from the valve and pushing the valve inwards allowing air to escape and clean the seating by moving the valve assembly from side to side but as I say this one is SOLID.. Firstly to find out if you have a leak spray some water/washing up liquid mixture and look for the tell tale sign of small bubbles. This leak has happened to both of my wheels now due to corrosion. Secondly I have not seen how the valve fits into the inside of the rim as I have my tyres fitted for me and I cannot find anything in the manuals that shows how the assembly fits. I PRESUME I know how but presumption can be dangerous so your excellent help would be much appreciated. Many Thanks. Neil. (Old Miner).
  2. A lot of discussion on MC tyres gets entered on the site. Not intended to open more debate on which is best. Just wanted to post this for those interested in getting more information on MC tires. http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/motorcycle/themes/download/technical_manual_uv.pdf
  3. Hi all, I would like to know if there is an international tyre dealer site that ships to italy where I can buy cheap tyres for street motorbyke or retread tyres for off-road training. Thank you for your suggestions.
  4. I am a little concerned that some of the posts righting that the stoping distance are based on the tyres. My thought is that your stopping distance is based on not on your tyres, but the weight the tyres are carrying and the condition of the road at the time you knead to stop. I am one not to skid my tyres to stop the flat spot it crates is not one I want. The tyres I bye are for handling and distance do you agree.
  5. Hi Guys I know there is a lot of info on here about tyres, but I'm sorta comming at it from a different angle. I live in Ireland, I can be anywhere in the country in less than 3 hours so I'm not looking for a tyre that can put up mega mileage, in fact would be more than happy with 7,000 miles from a set. What is more important to me is grip, stability and wet weather handling I am running Dunlop 404's at the moment and they do little to inspire confidence on the wet greasy Irish roads. I have a choice of 3 tyres Metzeler: ME880 ( german made ), Michelin: Commander or Continental: Milestone CM2. I cant get Avon Venom over here for some reason. Any thoughts would be much appreciated
  6. I've posted some of the pictures that I took of the rally last weekedn at http://s252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/sidecar%20rally/ I hope that you find some of them interesting. There are a wide range of bikes, sidecar styles and fittings, plus a few with conversions to car wheels and/or tyres. This is my outfit and the tent (erected) http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/sidecar%20rally/DSCF2011.jpg And this is it as it is towed. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/sidecar%20rally/DSCF2071.jpg A friend came down from Lancashire with his XVZ13 and sidecar. There are also a few pictures of his car wheel rear conversion. He is running a 145x15, but may have to switch to 135x15 as he says he's having trouble finding the 145. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/sidecar%20rally/DSCF2020.jpg This is a particularly flashy BMW and sidecar. It has car tyres front and back, hub centre steering and a sidecar wheel powered from the single sided swingarm. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/sidecar%20rally/DSCF2028.jpg As I said, browse the rest of the pictures and I hope you like them. Some are of different bikes and some are different views of the same ones.
  7. Well almost. Picked up my 04 Venture from just north of Brisbane, Queensland and rode it back home across Australia to my hometown of Perth. I did the trip in 4 days for a total of 4,780 kilometres or 2,968 miles. The bike ran perfectly with nothing coming loose or worse falling off (including me). I kept a record of all my fuel stops and my gas useage worked out at 38 mpg U.S. 45 mpg Imperial 16 kms/litre I pretty much kept to the speed limit and probably sat on around 70 mph. Saw plenty of wildlife on the road to avoid including - kangaroos, mobs of wild goats, emus, cows, wombats even a dingo and an echidna. Never having ridden a Venture before I can say I am very pleased with the bikes performance. I did notice that on some road surfaces there was a lot of road noise coming from the tyres and setting up a loud resonance thru the fairing at certain speeds. The bike is fitted with Bridgestones. Is there a more quiet tyre or is this normal? Also, I notice the tyres have a very high profile. Is it possible to lower the bike a little by fitting tyres with a lower profile? All in all I am very happy and would do the trip again but at a more leisurely pace.
  8. Avon Venom tyres have a remarkable following here. Most of us who run them (especially with the MT90 front) feel the handling is the best we have experienced. I got 14,000 miles out of the first rear tyre (after only getting 8,000 from the stock Brickstone), so they seem to wear very well. Best prices and service to buy them from SW Moto Tires in Tucson, Arizona. They have a number of web sites and names, but easy to find with a Google search. They ship free if you buy at least two tires.
  9. Interesting note from the Continental Tyre site on tire mileage: http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/motorcycle/img/void_uv.gifMileage A tyre which can achieve high mileage is an asset because a longer lifespan leads to lower costs. The mileage attained by motorcycle tyres and in particular that by the rear wheels of performance bikes cannot be measured in the same way as that of car or truck tyres. Because the motorcyles themselves weigh comparatively less they are able to accelerate faster and during this acceleration the rear tyre slips. This slipping leads to wear on the tyres. A pillion passenger whose weight is mainly placed on the rear tyre helps to prolong the life of the tyre. The rear wheel is pressed onto the road with more force, thereby reducing the amount of slipping. The tyre therefore lasts longer. Side note: Now that I've got everyone running Avon Venoms, I'm thinking of trying the Continentals! I find some of the information on their web site about the TK17 and new Milestone tires interesting. I need to get more information from them - they do not make the stock size for our front tire in the front tire design, but their fitment guide actually specifies to mount a rear tire on the front! First time I have seen this from a manufacturer. Anyone here run Continentals on their RSV? Which style? Your opinions? Thanx, Goose
