    2004 Royal Star Venture
  1. I was thinking they may use it as the next Venture platform, rather than have to design a whole new bike around the vmax motor. I'd be tempted.
  2. Hey Spear, I just bought two. One for my Venture and one for my M109R. Should arrive any time now. Bought an expensive lined one last time and it still rotted after only two years, so I'd rather go with the cheapies and at least be able to pack it in the trunk.
  3. A new "I" clutch basket. Now I don't "whine" anymore!
  4. Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Politics aside, even our prime minister shed a tear and had a moment on camera with this one. The cops are closing down all the affected areas and are now treating them all as a crime scene. Something like 750 homes gone and at least 130 dead. What can you say.
  5. I'm only 5'7" so I just bought me some Johnny Reb boots. Works good.
  6. I read somewhere that it does a 13.76 which is pretty respectable. (same bore and stroke as your FJR)
  7. I must admit I got a little excited when I saw the look and specs of the new kwacker. Then I came down to earth when I saw the engine output. 20% more power than the 1600 cc motor which works out to around 80 hp at the crank with 108 ft lbs of torque out of a 1700cc engine (103 cubes) probably 65-70 rwhp and 90-95 rw ft lbs. I'm gonna stay with my beautiful V4 thanks all the same.
  8. Paid for an "I" basket out of my own pocket and its fixed the problem. $225 for a basket and $100 for the install. Better than getting stressed out over it. Now I can enjoy the ride.
  9. We're not talking big bucks here for a fix. I bought an "I" basket for $225 and paid my mechanic $100 for the install. Worth paying to stop.....me....whining! and a lot cheaper than talking yourself into looking at another bike.
  10. I used to have a '97 royal star tour deluxe which I purchased second hand about six years ago. I did the "big foot" airbox mod, dyna3000, vmax cams and springs and a vmax rear diff. It revved so well to 8,000 rpm I didn't need 4th or 5th gears any more. I could have saved myself some effort and I did anyway and bought myself an '04 Venture with all the power I need for this type of machine.

    Its Gone

There's no five year warranty here in Australia so you either put up with the whine or take a chance and pay for the fix yourself. The local Yamaha stealer wanted $450 for a new "I" basket before installation. I purchased one from boats.net in Florida which arrived here in Perth within a week and it only cost me $227 plus postage $40. My local mechanic charged me $100 for the install. Just gave it a test ride and the whine is totally gone. This is a cheap option compared to looking for another bike. Mine is a 2004 model and the clutch basket removed is a "G" variation. I can now turn the radio down a couple of notched and listen to that V4:happy34: Steve
  12. I already bought two sets off ebay. One set of Road King professionally debaffled (did I say loud) and the other set - oem ultraglide pipes...... Still a bit loud. I must be getting old. I like to listen to the radio now.

  13. Easy way to fix the whine - LOUD pipes!

  14. Boats.net will ship an i basket to Australia for $37. A bit different to Mr Cycles $227
  15. I decided to go ahead and order a new "i"clutch basket to see if it will help tone down the whine a little. My local dealer here in Perth wants more than $450 just for the part. After reading thru the threads here I found Mr. Cycles part no. 4xy-16150-09-00 and checking the site its listed at $206.78. Once I put my order in the amount of $226.00 was requested for freight. I was expecting to pay a few bucks but that seems like daylight robbery to me or is it to make sure it costs me $450 whichever way I go. I'm trying now to get a quote from boats.net store. They quote $227.92 plus shipping. Steve
