  1. This is in response to snaggletooth's post earlier about his side stand bolt breaking. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=48307 I started a new thread so people might look at it that had already viewed his. As was noted in previous post, the undercut on the shoulder bolt is deep. The threads are 10 mm on the shoulder bolt and the undercut is about 7.90 mm. This is about 20% of the bolts threaded diameter that has been removed. The shoulder portion of the bolt is 12 mm. I used a grade 10.9, 12 mm x 1.75 mm x 60 mm long partially threaded hex head bolt, a grade 10.9 hex head nut and a standard grade jam nut (hardware didn't have grade 10.9 jam nuts).Grade 10.9 metric is very close to an imperial grade 8. The hardware store had 12 mm x 1.50 mm bolts, but the unthreaded portion was a smaller diameter than the 1.75 mm. I would have rather had the finer threads. I used the 60 mm length because the unthreaded portion of this bolt was just the length that was required to pass through the front and back wings of the side stand. I did not want threads in that area, due to the threads would quickly wear down in diameter and increase play in side stand. The shoulder on the hex bolt measured 11.50 mm, just slightly smaller than the existing shoulder bolt by about .005". I cut the shoulder bolt to roughly 45 mm (1.75") long. Then drilled out the threaded portion of the kickstand with a 15/32" drill. This gave a very snug fit for the unthreaded portion of the new bolt. The drilled hole in the back wing is still a smaller diameter than the existing hole in the front wing of the side stand, so I do not feel it weakened the overall assembly. Replaced the side stand. I used blue loctite on threads. Tightened hardened hex bolt up until there was minimal play in the end of side stand, then ran jam nut up against hex nut. Cost was under $5.00 and took less than an hour including parts run. Comparison of new bolt & existing shoulder bolt. Back wing of side stand prior to drilling Stack-up of new fasteners after cutting hex bolt to length. Picture of side stand prior to spring being reinstalled. Gary
  2. Please offer up your prayers to the families and friends and staff for the victims of the school shootings this morning at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Conn. 18 children and 8 adults were shot and killed by a lone gunman. One of the victims at the school was the shooter's mother. The school was K-4th grade. This is happening all to often. The shooter was a 20 year old male that just entered the school and used two high capacity hand guns.
  3. Hey everyone, This is a link to my groups video. Our grade is based on the number of hits. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Jennie Credille [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG8zB51hbu0]www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG8zB51hbu0[/ame]

    IE 9

Any one up graded to IE9 internet whants me to up grade how do you like it
  5. I'm under warranty so no worries. Anyhow when I am going up a slight grade with the cruise on it seems to drop excessively, like say 6-8 mph. Of course when it does this the cruise kicks out and my RES light illuminates. Now then it also has a slight "slobber" at idle and smells a little rich. Its a 09 with 3,200 miles. Thinking hit a tank with sea foam first before trip to dealer??? It has the power no problem, but I seem to have to "twist" it up pretty hard on a grade. Also OD or fifth gear seems a little too high at 65 mph. Almost feels like OD would be on the flat or speeds over 75. Is this some of my bogging down problem
  6. First I need to say that I had the clutch slippage issue in 4th and 5th. Also on a slight uphill grade, I could not hold 5th gear at 50 mph. It would shudder and buck causing to me to downshift. I orderes his clutch spring upgrade. WOW! This thing should be listed under performance upgrades! I feel like I have more power than before. I can even hold 5th gear on the same grade and accelerate! It is almost like a brand new bike. If you haven't done this yet, do it! Best purchase I've made yet! Just for giggles, Mine is a 97 RSTC with 63,XXX on the odometer. Second owner and was prob not taken care of to well by the PO. Thanks Skydoc_17!
  7. Just wondering Iam going to replace my R&R on my 85.Have a member sending me up one.My question is if you do not change, or up grade the Stator, then what difference is there to up grade the R&R?................Thanks........Stan
  8. Yep, mine started slipping about two months ago. Very slight at first and now very noticeable. I ordered the clutch up grade this past Monday 09-21-09 from PCW Racing and received it today 09-23-09 by UPS. Pretty good I would say. I just might start on it tonight after work and see how it goes. I may understand the instructions more once I get in there and see what it is like. Thanks to this sight as to know where to order parts and do the work.
  9. I get so many different answers . I trust this site for the right answers When is it time to change to a lighter oil grade 5W40?????
  10. Folks... Just found a great deal on Air horns and decided to let every one know. I bought the one for the motorcycles for $ 30.00 and got a couple extras for an old powerwagon that I'm rebuilding. I got the black ones but they also have the chrome and marine grade. Take a look at the website, it's simple and inexpensive....just thought I'd let you know. Ken Here's the address: http://Kalmari.ecrater.com
