  1. 1987 with 36k with sidecar was averaging 38-40 all of a sudden dropped to 21, 26.2, 31.7, 28.6 , 29 no long idling no excessive speed rig coasts fine no brake drag i thought if there is a return line do to fuel pump maybe it broke or was leaking but there is no gas smell or residue. is there a return line line and any suggestions to look for for milage drop could it be clutch?doesnt seem to be slipping.
  2. Hey Carbon One.....is this how it REALLY happened????
  3. Hello all. Bad timing for me with most people already left for the International. I was trying to check my rear shock pressure before leaving tomorrow to International and towing my tent trailer. I just bought a hand bicycle pump to add pressure. When I went to take psi I couldn't get a seal and lots of air came out. I tried putting air in with the hand pump and it wasn't going in, I played with the pump and think I broke it. I can not now get any pressure psi reading with the two tire gauges I have. Any suggestions of what to do, or what I broke without realizing? I don't think I will be able to tow the trailer now if the pressure is gone. Any and all advice and criticism is welcome.
  4. I was working on my lower left fairing and cracked the lower fairing on that side. Does anyone have any ideas where I can get another one? Thanks Kent
  5. Does anyone here have a rear brake reservoir for an "83 VR. Mine broke a while back when I tried to loosen the bolt to add fluid. I repaired it using JB Weld and it held for a while but today it broke again. I either need another reservoir or if someone can tell me something that I can repair it with.
  6. I was adding some acessories and needed to move some wires around near the battery, when this one broke off. The wire comes from the accessory side of the OEM fuse box and goes into what looks like and EOM retangular male/female plug and the single wire is white with a red stripe. The broken piece fell down and I've not been able to get it out yet. The wire from the Accessory side of the fuse box to the connector was spliced and a couple of what looked like a 2 inline resistors were added. the thin wire that connected the two inline resistor broke. The added resistor could not be OEM for it was crimped on. Anyone have any ideas as to why these 2 Resistors were added. And then maybe I don't need it?
  7. A buddy asked if I wanted to go look at some property up north . We took the bikes and rode 541 miles . Waterford to Cheybogan . Took our time 14 hours worth. I have to say that this Road Glide Ultra is the best riding bike I have ever been on. All broke in now with 750 miles which is more miles than I put on the RSV in three years. lol Maybe I forgot that I liked it too.
  8. Old people worry more about paying bills guess thats a good habit to have. I laughed my arse off at my Dad a while back. He got a bill in the mail that said you have a $200 credit this month. It seems he had paid it multiple times the month before (over paid). This morning I check my checking balance and it seems I paid a bill twice last week. Damn this getting old is making me broke. I could have bought a years insurance on the scoots with that $$$.:backinmyday:
  9. http://www.theprovince.com/business/Vancouver+most+expensive+city+North+America/6157217/story.html No wonder I am broke all the time...
  10. Sorry for the new thread, ok I'm ready to try to drill like 5 holes thru the cone on the end then I know you have to drill thru the other piece inside, question is, does this sound good and does this make sense to do this. I'm broke after getting this bike so for nor now new slip ons are not an option.
  11. Sometimes you find them. Once in a while you can even get yours hands on them. This week was pretty good. Found a few things I've been looking for over the last few years and didn't go broke getting them. Only one slipped though my fingers. Drat. But how often do you find these items? In good or NOS condtion?
  12. What is the purpose of these little buggers? accept to keep us buying new brackets all the time? When the second bracket broke this year, I took both off. Front end actually looks better without them... IMHO.
  13. Today the throttle cable on my 88 VR broke while on a ride. Fortunately, I was close to home. The throttle cable broke 26 months and 22,000 miles ago. Is this a problem with 1st-gen Ventures? If so, is there anything I can do to prevent this seemingly premature wear? I had a GS1100GK Suzuki before the Venture. In 9 years and 100,000 miles of use on that Suzuki, I didn't replace the throttle cable once. Nick Diaz Middletown, MD
  14. after changing the plugs, changing the oil, i decided to install skydocs shim kit before i synced the carbs using the carbtune pro i got from zane. thanks again zane. 3 carbs, no problem. last carb, DOH! i must have put the nylon nut ever so slightly wrong, and SNAP! broke a diaphragm housing. lack of patience i suppose. only had about a good 2 hours of clear weather before the rain came this weekend. i found some new ones on ebay. so i bought 2, 1 for a backup. and i got 2 needle kits, just for spares.
  15. Ok the venture has a broke u-joint and the bolt holding the bottom half of the rear shock is out and caused a couple other problems. I might be back on the road in 10 days or so! Phill
  16. Anybody have a known good fuel pump that I could use for testing purposes for a few days? I have my pump off bike (G1 MK2)... and when I connect direct to 12v power source I'm getting a fair amount of arcing at the batt with no pump run. UPDATE/EDIT: I connected it straight to batt charger (10A setting) instead and it broke free after a few attempts. Wonder if it was bound up inside. Guess that's an early warning signal, eh?
  17. Don't know how or why,but the head broke on my radio where it has the inserts and screws. I did a temp fix but my question is can a person buy just the housing and change it out?
  18. So as it says I broke my rear master cylinder resevoir just like cja jacobs did. Does anyone know where I can get one or even better does anyone have one? I am just getting into riding and have only had the bike a couple of months, but right as I get my license it breaks. Thanks for the help.
  19. ...a front stock flasher bar (blinker/marker). Does any who may have taken one off for a light bar have it laying around collecting dust. Water got into the left end of mine and everything is rusted and corroded. I had to destroy it to get the bulb out. Two of the three wires broke loose from the base where the light fits in. I can buy from from Yamaha but thought I would ask here first.
  20. Hopefully it's not too serious somebody try to post to the thread help a new guy - it shows 3 pages NOT http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=56484
  21. woke up at about 3:30 having a small seizure. The wife gets me up at 7:30 to take my meds. Go to make some coffee and the coffee pot is broke (wont turn on) What's next. I hate days like this. George C.
  22. WHEN I SAY I'M BROKE - I'M BROKE! A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner. 'Good morning,' said the young man. 'If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners... ' 'Go away!' said the old lady. ''I'm broke and haven't got any money!'' and she proceeded to close the door. Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open... ''Don't be too hasty!'' he said. ''Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.'' And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet. ''Now, if this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder.'' The old lady stepped back and said, ''Well let me get you a fork, 'cause they cut off my electricity this morning."
  23. Wouldn't let me in tonight. Or are they just trying to tell me something???
  24. My trunk broke again right behind the rear mounting bolts. I have patched this back together several times and apparently have not been successfull. Does any one have a 87 MK2 trunk laying around you don't need at least the lower half. I guess I just need to replace it. I thought I would ask before I start searching ebay again. I don't mind paying for the part and shipping. Color doesn't matter because i will have to repaint to match anyway.
  25. And that is an understatement............Was leaving to go to church on my V Star 1300, I cleaned it up a little bit before I left, got ready for church, backed the bike out of the garage, closed and locked the garage door, got back onthe bike pulled in clutch, dropped into first, a faint pop the bike lurched and dies. Clutch cable broke at the adjustment fitting under the tank. This is the second cable that has broken, the first one broke in the same place at 12,000 miles and Yamaha warrantied it.........no 10,000 miles later it does it again. Okay no biggey, I get the Venture out and put the Star away. Venture needs gas, so I stop at a gas station I use very rarely on my way to church. Pump the gas while sitting on the bike holding it upright so I get a full tank..............got distracted for a moment and all of a sudden I feel wettnes and hear liquiid spilling on the ground.........the auto shout off didnt work as it should now I have gas all over the tank cover the engine but worst of all, I am soaked in gas and it feels like someone lit a fire to big Jim and the twins......:crying:.......OUCH Wipe all the gas off the bike and soak up the little inside the filler area, and it feels like a volcano has gone off in my nether reigons.................Its a five mile ride back to the house and I dont know if I can make it without stopping at the first pond I see and jump in..........Call the fire department....................PLEASE. Get home and cant get the clothes off fast enuff, jump into a cold shower and cool my guys off....................WHEW......AAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Luckily no permanet damage done to the area, but it sure felt like I was going to be out of commisson for a while.............Didnt really want to go to the hospital and be treated for burns down there.................. Made it to church 45 minutes late, went on our lunch ride and had a really nice day that I thought was going to be shot for me............. So. How was your day................??
