  1. 05 Venture with 93K on the odo. Some extras like lights and Gps. I have a batt indicator light that after a few days of sitting showed the batt was low. Batt was over a year old so replaced it and now it still shows low after a few days. Bike will crank with yellow light have not let it get to red yet. So it looks like I have a slow batt drain somewhere or possible my light is defective but don't think so. I have done no troubleshooting so far was just wondering if someone knows a weak part on this bike for me to take a first look at?
  2. Anybody have a known good fuel pump that I could use for testing purposes for a few days? I have my pump off bike (G1 MK2)... and when I connect direct to 12v power source I'm getting a fair amount of arcing at the batt with no pump run. UPDATE/EDIT: I connected it straight to batt charger (10A setting) instead and it broke free after a few attempts. Wonder if it was bound up inside. Guess that's an early warning signal, eh?
  3. Well you knew it was coming. The only battery talked about anymore, Lithium ion (hybrid car's, cell phones, etc.) has come to motorcycle's. For those who spend more on batteries this might be your answer. SHORAI brand Lithium ion motorcycle battery. Spec's, has two to four times service life of regular batt., hold's charge for one year without maintenance, and weight's about 1.5 pounds vs about 9.5 pound's regular batt. Interestingly it comes in military spec carbon fiber case. Cost about $130.00 If you don't like the battery you may like the ladies on the sight.SHORAI.com
  4. I've read the prior threads on this, but didn't find the answer to my question on those, so I'll throw it out on the table one more time: Aside from normal miliamp drainage and a not-so-great charging system on the RSV, does a full drain of the batt due to stupidity (yes, I left the key on for 3 days! ) do any serious permanent damage to the battery? I slow charged it back to full, and it's starting OK, but I'm preping to hit the road for a 1,700 mile trip in a few weeks, and don't need any battery issues en route. The batt is about 3 years old. I guess I could yank it and take it in for a load test at the auto parts place, but short of that, any opinions on this?
  5. Can you move the handlebars in and out on a 88 VR like you can on a 85, ref Squidleys reply on the matter. And thanks to everybody on the battery sensor fix, I got the stuff and did the job in about 45 min., Gel batt was from Advance Auto (89$), not an Odyssey, used a 1K Ohm resistor.
  6. hey guys, I'm having a problem of something running the batt. down over a period of 2-3 days if I don't start the bike or put in on a batt. maintainer. I have run it down to one of the blade type fuses in the fuse box that is located to the right front of the batt. location. It is a 15 amp fuse, but I can't find any info as to what circuit that fuse controls. It never blows the fuse, just runs the batt. down. If anyone knows what circuit that fuse controls, I could sure use the info. Thanks in advance. Don H .
  7. Ok guys, have got a problem of something running the batt. down in a very short period to time. Just put a new batt. in and charged it approx. 8-10 hrs. on a battery tender untill fully charged. Rode bike about 6 hrs. on Saturday came home and put in garage until following Wed. Went out to ride, and batt was dead! Put it back on batt. tender and let it charge again untill fully charged. Battery tender shut down as it is supposed to do and is still on batt. in maintenance mode. Am afraid to take bike out until I find out what the problem is. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. Don H 77

  9. Today I took the Surburban up to the PO, and didn't have any signs of impending doom. Went inside, took care of biz, and when I got in the car to leave the battery was deader than a door nail. Started fine at the house, and then NADA. Called AAA for a jump. Fired right up and I took it home. I did find the positive side connection on the battery a little loose, and figured that may have caused a loss in charging. Got back to the house and hooked the battery up to a 15amp smart charger. Left it on for a couple of hours and when the wife came out to go to a doctor's appt.... Nada again. Now I put a Multi on it and it read 12.8 vdc. Pretty good. Anyway I removed the battery and took it over to my local Battery dealer. Same thing on his meter. 12.8vdc. Asked to have it load tested. Hooked up the tester and battery read in the green. Cranked up the load and it croaked. Open cell. The batt was only 20 months old, so they gave me a new one. When I installed the new batt the 'burb started a little reluctanly and stalled out a few times before it took hold. Here's the surprising thing. When I took it for a test drive the thing shifted smoother, had more power, and idled as quiet as when we first got it. I'd never seen anything like this before, and the dealer said it was quite rare. But I guess the car had been running on a low voltage for a long time before it died. Where am I going with this?? On our bikes we tend to rely on the volts to indicate charge and battery condition. Next time something doesn't seem right. Ruff running etc. It might be wise to have the battery load tested.
  10. what kind of detectors are you guys out there using and how do you like them? I have been thinking about the batt powered passport to put on the bike so I can stick it in my pocket and no crods to mess with.
  11. dumb ? i know but is there any way to jump a bike with a car batt.? read some where a car batt. will burn fuse or worse. as long as not over 5 amps it would work right? maybe a could put resistors in line on jumper cables so as a car(turned off) could jump start bike .not an electrician so how much resistance? or are amps different matter to reduce? or is only option bike to bike jump?what is best option in emergancey? is there any jumper packs out there on market that could safely jump bike ? i have the HOT start problem but it allways started but not last week.allmost considered jumping with a car ( bike cooled off and stated) fianally but volts were way down bought ODESSY 680 battery and i guess some day install better Batt wires any advise?
