  1. This is pretty cool. Wonder if it would work on the Venture? http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/spider-led-light/
  2. I would like for those of you who use the chat rooms to give me an evaluation of the two solutions that I have installed at this time. The old one is pretty slick and has some nice features but doesn't work from all devices. The new one isn't as slick but seems to work just as well and is easier to get into and out of I think. It will be your call. If you choose the new one called "Shoutbox" at the top of the page then I will update it to the pro version. That won't make it any slicker looking but will add a few features such as allowing you to detach and run it in a separate window, turn the notification sounds on or off, things like that. Like I said, it is your call. From a money stand point, it's not a big deal. I would have to pay for the pro version of the new one but I also pay a yearly hosting fee separately for the old one so for the short term at least, it's pretty much a wash. So lets hear it. What do you want? The other option is that I could keep both but not upgrade the new one to the pro version. Just leave it as it is. I really don't think that we need two chat rooms though.
  3. I would like to buy a set of jardines but after a week of searching I've had no luck. So I was thinking about removing the mufflers at the slip connector and putting on some 24" chrome tip turndowns, I have also looked for sound clips of option two with no luck. Does anyone have an idea if it would sound good or if it would just sound terrible. I can no longer take riding around on a bike that sounds like it belongs on the Jetson's
  4. How are you mounting them??? How are you weatherproffing them??? No need to re-invent the wheel. Looking for ideas that are working and pictures if possible. Im going with this set up unless someone has a better option. This looks like a nice clear install that will protect it nicely. I visited all I could in here through search feature and rthough this is a old post it looks to be the best option. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55068&highlight=garmin
  5. OK, so upon uncovering my bike at work today for the ride home, I raised the antenna up and tightened the collar nut..............or at least tried to. It's stripped out now. Can't figure out why, it's only 24 years old. Anyhow, I've heard (but have never tried) that a CB radio antenna in place of the OE AM/FM antenna works far better as an AM/FM antenna that the OE stick does. So, I'm going to set myself to install a CB antenna. BUT! I'd like to have the option of either being able to fold it down like I currently do or at least have some kind of a quick disconnect so I can lay it across the bike when I cover it up. Anyone know if such a mount exists?
  6. Time to replace those brickstones that came on my TD. Anyone near the Iowa City area have the equipment and knowledge to mount a new set or is the dealership my only option around here?
  7. After going on a 200 mile+ ride on the ST1300 last weekend the wife could barely climb off the bike. She was in pain for 2 days after. I showed her a pic of this bike that a local dealer had on ebay and she said "get it....now!" so I did. Another RSV was not an option since I won't put her on a non ABS bike since I totaled the '07. Hope yall like it! ps Mama is now a happy camper and you know what they say about that!
  8. Anybody ever looked into lowering floorboards an inch or so for long legged riders.I have been looking at a 2012 RSV and they seem to sit high enough to allow such a mod without creating too much of a drag issue in corners, but maybe i am wrong.I am 6 foot 3 and maybe raising seat is an option also. I can always do highway pegs anyways but the floorboards just feel too high for my long legs.I normally ride a Raider and I am use to forward controls and pegs.Maybe pegs would be a good solution.Anybody have pics of a floorbaord to peg conversion?
  9. believe it or not i do try to use the search option before asking questions. i have found i get better search results when i go to open a new thread and type in the subject than it opens other topics that are close to what i'm looking for. dose anyone know why that seems to work better than the search box? or the search thats listed in the menue bar.
  10. I have begun shopping for new MC insurance. I switched auto insurance companies last August. My MC insurance expired Sept 1'st of last year and I never renewed it. My question is shopping for coverage on my 89 gives me a No coverage option or a ACV option. The 84 lets me choose No coverage or Agreed Price for things like collision etc. The Agreed Price I like after all you know what your scoot is worth to you and the ACV value doesn't.The other option was for accessories but I don't reallly have any on the 89.So it seems to me the 84 can be insured for more then the 89? I probably won't make a move until about March 1'st just looking for now and monitoring the finances.Darn hip joint has been giving me some trouble to.
  11. Sorry for the new thread, ok I'm ready to try to drill like 5 holes thru the cone on the end then I know you have to drill thru the other piece inside, question is, does this sound good and does this make sense to do this. I'm broke after getting this bike so for nor now new slip ons are not an option.
  12. Found one of these for a Honda Goldwing (http://www.wiiki-tech.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1702&products_id=6567) it plugs into the radio replacing the the CD I think. Now I also emailed them requesting if they have one for the Venture and I am waiting to hear back. These go for 90.00 - 100.00 each which if they would be willing to make the connection into the cd plug on the Venture it would be a great option and upgrade to the bike. Now I'm thinking if a bunch of us were to make the same request from them they might just act on it. What do you guys think?
  13. Does anyone know where I might find or order the right side wire guide that also holds the front reflector? I've looked in my manual and it can't find a part number so going on line to order one doesn't seem to be an option without it. Repair Ideas Also Welcome!
  14. I've had my Kury Longhorn Pegs in the perfect position since I got the RSTD. A few months ago I added the lower wind deflectors (Yamaha). I cant seem to come up with the right adjustment for the pegs now without interfering with the deflectors. Their either too close or too low. Does anyone know of pegs that extend farther out to clear the deflectors but still allow for some height adjustment? Option 2: What do I use to trim the deflector? (If anyone else has done this, can you provide a picture? I dont care for this option because of the price paid for lower wind deflectors.)
  15. I have an '03 Olds Silhouette and tried to sign up for the contest. Well I learned that I have an analog signal and you need a digital signal to sign up. I have done some research and onstar says it can't be done DIY. From some other research this is basically b.s. There are some DIYers that have done the upgrade themselves. It seems the only reason why they are saying this is so they can get some big $$$ for it. When this whole thing started Onstar wanted 3 yrs of service. Now they want just one, but the problem is total cost is $315 to have the upgrade done. That doesn't include what I am sure dealer would charge for labor and taxes. I am not going to spend that kinda dough for this. I should be able to do this upgrade w/out having to sign up for anything w/ Onstar. I should be able to have the option to be able to sign up in the future if I want to w/out having to sign up right now just to do this upgrade. Besides the contest if anything else say me or my wife are in an accident, I can't push the emergency button to get help. They way it is now, Onstar is taking that option out unless you want to drop some major $$$ My question is any GM mechanics know how to do the upgrade? Anyone else done it themselves? How hard is it? Instructions? How to get the parts (I think it just involves a module and antenna)? Anything I am missing?
  16. I found some passenger grab handles from a Venture Royal and was wondering if anyone has tried to make these work on a 97 Royal? Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-Royal-Star-REAR-GRAB-BAR-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2eb3250a7bQQitemZ200574044795QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories I think my wife would like the Hold On option one in a while..? Thanks, Darrin
  17. I'm considering getting passing lights for my '09 RSV and not sure what you get when you order them. I see that the passing lights requires mounts as well. If someone can clarify.... Passing lamps -STR-4XY35-10-00 => are these JUST the lights? Passing lamp mounts - STR-3XY35-40-00 => is this the bar that the lights and turn signals attach to? Where do I get the recommended "spacer" from? Not sure I want the OEM lights if there is a better looking and more functional option. Is the Rivco 4" 55/60w a good choice? www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_id=42&Category_ID=49&manufacturer_ID=11&product_ID=36682&related=short Also... for the switch, has anyone used the Show Chrome accessory block? http://www.canadamotorcycleaccessories.com/Dual_Accessory_Switch_Block_1_inch_Cruiser_Bars_P24870.php
  18. this option looks promising. I googled the parrot sk400 and got a lot of good reviews. http://wireless.1saleaday.com/ Of course there is a newer version of this also. The one on sale is the original from what I understand DAvid
  19. I installed a J&M Headset/Mic unit in my helmet yesterday to use on my 2000 MM. I checked all the connections for the helmet unit, but nothing comes through it. In selecting options on the audio panel of the bike....HS is not an option...it does not come up after SP. SP and all the rest of the adjustable controls seem to work fine, but no HS Option. I tried the rear headset plug also...nothing. I don't know if HS have ever been used on the bike. I think the previous owner did not use them. Is there something that needs to be connected/adjusted on the bike, before HS option is made available on the audio panel and they will work? Or am I looking at a new "part"? The J&M unit is the correct one for the bike and should work if HS can be selected. Thanks in advance for your interest and answers...
  20. Since my co worker just got creamed by a cage that ran a sop sign, I have been thinking about the scenario a lot. Enough that even though the fall colors were just stating to get near peak and the weather was perfect for a ride, I did not go out. If a bad situation presents itself you have a better chance if you have at least thought about it some before it happens. So the question is; If you are going down the road and and you see a car pulling out in front of you, and there is just no way to avoid getting hit, no room behind the car to swerve to the right and oncoming traffic or something else blocking a swerve to the left, what is the best option? Hit the brakes hard which will slow you down and cause you to hit the side of the offending car and get launched into the handle bars, or get on the gas hard to try to get your body past the point of impact even though the car will still hit the back end of the bike and likely knock you down at a higher rate of speed? Or some other option. I know the best option is to not put yourself in that situation but sometimes $hit happens. I do realize that every encounter is different, and the snap decision will have to be made at that moment in time.
  21. I got a letter from my insurance company today asking me the value of my 89 VR. Mine is in what I consider excellent condition with 21,800 miles. The only option on it is the lighted chrome rear bumper. I put on a rivco oil filter adapter, cable upgrade and braided ss brake lines. Kelly Blue book lists it at $3495 and NADA list it at $4125. I carry full coverage on it. Apparently the insurance company, Foremost considers it a classic if it has under $500. in accessories. I have the option of keeping street or classic insurance. My questions are should I value it at the higher value and is classic insurance cheaper than street insurance? Insurance has cost me $300. a year in the past. Thanks Dave
  22. A member here is letting me have a 1986 1300 motor, It is located in the Ft. Worth, Tx. area. I was wondering if anyone would be in that area would be making a trip to Houston, time doesnt matter, I can get the motor picked up in the Houston area by my son who is over there on a regular basis. My only other option is to get it shipped, which would be quite expensive and that just isnt in the budget right now........I would also need a place to have it dropped in Houston, hopefully a member local to Houston could help me out in that respect...........I know we have quite a few there, even Cupcake might be able to help.
  23. While in Tennessee on Friday, I ran over a piece of steel and ruined a rather low-mileage E3 on the rar of my GL1800 Wing. I was about 30 miles from the beginning of civilization with only one realistic option for obtaining a new tire, that being Mid-$outh Motoplex in Clark$ville, Tenne$$ee. I'll leave out all the details, but after finally getting the rear wheel off and delivered to the shop, I was then gouged mercilessly IMO. My tire size is 180/60R16 and a new E3 from http://www.jakewilson.com goes for 164.99.....obviously not an option for me in my situation since I had to have the tire immediately so I could continue my trip. Here's what the dealership charged me: Tire: $247.50 Labor: $39.50 Valve stem: $16.98 Tax: $29 and change Total, $333 thank you very much for your business sir! Now, I realize that a dealership needs to make a profit, but that is one heckuva markup percentage. I'm sure they buy their tires at least as cheaply as I can get them online....so they are marking them up by almost half. Nice. Oh, and it's a good thing I took it in already off the bike. They charge $118.50 if on the bike, plus an additional "clean up fee as appropriate". I initially thought that I was fortunate that they "got me right in and got it done for me" since I was just traveling through.....until I read the sign that said "Tires mounted and balanced while you wait". So I received no special treatment after all. This shop sells Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Polaris/Victory. Large dealership, expensive building. I now have paid for a small piece of it. BEWARE. Joe
  24. Have a new to me 97 and don't have the cables to lock my helmet under the seat (not sure I like that option anyway). What has anyone else done as a useful option that they are pleased with? I as looking at the Kuryakyn Universal Helmet Lock, but have two concerns; 1) Is it wide enough to mount on the stick sissy bar? 2) Does it rattle? I've seen a few reviews saying so, but they seem to be in the minority; the rattle would be a deal breaker. Thanks!
  25. Checking Craig's list as I do every day I came across this 2006 with the "RARE" chrome wheel option. http://toledo.craigslist.org/mcy/1730466812.html
