  1. Attached are PDF scans of a 1986 Venture Service Guide for Technical Training. I got a copy of this on Ebay. A lot of info on the Anti Dives, CB radio, Cruise Control There are quite a few interesting tidbits in the information contained in this material. I broke the scans up by sections so I could get them uploaded. Same format as the 1987 Venture Service Handbook for Technical Training I loaded a few months ago. Link to that thread next. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=71406 Gary
  2. Got this from a member (with his permission) off the GL1800Riders board. Thought it was a good "guide" for all to consider when parking your scoot in a parking lot with the trailer hooked up for safety. http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/minimumriskparkinga1.jpg
  3. First off, Thank you to the person that sent my a front brake house. Can't remember who did it, but I'm very grateful! If you look at the pic below I put an arrow at the carb that is sticky. I need some kind of guide to get it to run. Anyone has a how to take the carbs out to clean them or any other ideas. Thank you in advance
  4. Hey, Had the local shop pull the front fork to replace the leaky seals and they came back to me with news that the lower guide bushing needs to be replaced and they're not sure they can find it. I've looked around (online) and have found a "metal, slide 1" available from a number of places but no one lists the guide bushing. This is the one at the bottom end of the inner tube... it's pressed on to the tube. Anyone know where I might get one??? Help... I can't ride till I get one cuz they won't safety certify the bike like it is. And I REALLY want to ride. I'm almost in tear every time I see a rider go by... help, please... Mark
  5. http://mic.org/downloads/MIC_Tire_Guide_2011.pdf A worthwhile reading tire and maintenance guide. Nothing startling and new though.
  6. Morning, We are planning a fall(late October) trip to the Branson/ Harrison Arkansas area. We will be staying at the Silver Leaf Holiday Hill Resort for a week. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the weather to expect and if the "colors" are at their peak at this time. We will also want to tour the Harrison area. We have a "Motorcycle Riding Guide of the Ozarks" brochure and it looks like a great area guide. I would appreciate any pointers on "must see" places and kinda unique places to eat and where not to go. Always wanted to ride in that area and now have a chance. Thanks Reno
  7. Does anyone know where I might find or order the right side wire guide that also holds the front reflector? I've looked in my manual and it can't find a part number so going on line to order one doesn't seem to be an option without it. Repair Ideas Also Welcome!
  8. After more than a year of being bikeless since loosing my 2 wheeler in Yellowstone, I found an '07 with a Hannigan conversion. Sorry to anyone that I might have beat out on this deal but I knew I had to move fast. The bike is in great condition overall and very low miles. Gas mileage is only in high twenty's and I squeaked 30 out of 1 tank but carbs are in need of a sync. I would hope to get it back into the mid 30's. I've seen a few other that said they were getting upwards near 40 mpg but that's about what I used to get with 2 wheels. I have to get an inspection (PA) done next week and I know it needs a new front tire. I am leaning to the Metzler 880 (rear) right now pending any other input from others. I am also looking for any information on the conversion (I know Hannigan does not provide an install guide) but am hoping there is a maintenance guide. There was nothing that came with the bike. It does not have the EZ Steer rack kit so I am looking for input from others that may have waited to have it installed after the initial trike was done. I can handle it ok but it can take some strong arming in the curves. Does it really make a big difference on the Venture since the front is already slightly racked? I also heard that just adding the Baron's risers can make a great difference in the amount of effort required to steer. So far I like it and will be starting to put some "touches" to it over time. Any input is appreciated!
  9. My wife Lori wrote this and sent it out to our riding group, I thought it was pretty good and I just wanted to share it with you: What have I learned during my backseat riding? Always trust your guide and driver. They have looked ahead and are able to guide me through the turns and hills with confidence, avoid the bumpy roads when possible. A driver has a better view of what is ahead than I do from my backseat. My guide and driver need to be someone I trust, who I know, and I know will want to make sure I have the best ride. A guide who is looking out for my safety. Always trust my guide. Trust, Trust, Trust, and relax. Rains come and go; sometimes you just have to go for it. When surrounded by good people, I don't mind being wet and cold so much. I know that the cloud will pass or that we will find protection. When we find shelter I can quickly warm up with the bond of a shared experience among friends, and at times laughter that we made it through. Don't let the chance of clouds deter me from my trip. I can enjoy, and appreciate, a different perspective of what I see on the same road during different seasons. Sometimes a difficult task for me, Every season holds its own distinct beauty; looking for and finding that beauty is up to me and will make my ride more enjoyable. I need to wear the appropriate gear; armor, if you will. My helmet protects me not only during an accident, but it also protects my head from the winds of the world throwing debris at me from any which way. I am protected from the small, pesky irritants that are flying at me; annoying me just enough to distraction. The face shield keeps my eyes protected, reduces the distraction, so I can keep focused on the road and enjoy the sights. Putting on my leathers protects my body from the changing winds and weather; helps keep me from feeling the sting of cold and rain. A burdensome task at times, but it is for my own good, Invest in my armor and remember to put it on before the ride. Our saddlebags can only hold so much, and I never need as much as I think I do. Make sure I have the essentials, anything more will just weigh me down and frustrate me as I try to stuff it all in. I can trust those I am with will help me if I don't have what I need, and I will do the same for them. If someone is overloaded, take some of what they can't stuff in their bags and carry it for them, you can be sure they will reciprocate when you are overburdened with your stuff. Pack light and help others when their load is too much to carry. Often we meet other riders along the way. As we pass, most riders will give some sort of nod, wave or acknowledgment. This is an unspoken gesture to each other saying something like, “I get it, I have it running in my veins, too”. An acknowledgment that we have a common thread; we are a part of a ”remnant” on the roads. Occasionally we come across those that will not look our way, will not give that acknowledgment that we share something in common. Most times it is because we don't ride a certain kind of bike; we are not “like” them, not up to their standards. We are judged to be poor attempts at being what they consider true riders, and maybe we are. I like to think that I can enjoy and appreciate the gift of my ride more with a smile, and want to share this joy with other riders. We have met some really nice people, and our meetings happened only because we both appreciate riding. Be nice, life is more enjoyable. The end of the ride brings a strange mix of feelings. Sadness that the ride is over tangles with the comfort that I have arrived home, and can rest. The joy and thrill of the ride The deep sense of security that I have made it home safely lulls me into contentment; I am thankful as I sink into the warmth and peace of protection from the elements. Treacherous roads, chance of rain, cold seeping into my bones, winds stinging my face. All risks I take going on the ride. Warmth of sunshine, witnessing God’s endless creativity in nature, deepening relationships with God and those I love. All absolute unbeatable joys I have going on the ride. More importantly, teaching me more about myself; that there are times I have to adjust to the road and the seasons, take a chance, invest in my armor, trust in my guide and driver, and always be thankful for the gift to ride.... rain or shine. runs through my mind as I struggle with coming to terms that it is done, for now. Let’s ride…….
  10. Ok Guys No miracle here. Not posting a way to change tires or fix flats with spray lube. I just went over the whoel bike spraying everything that moved, pivotted or slid on something. I didnt realize the throttle snapped back so fast and the sidestand actually goes back without having to guide it along. The throttle thing i wasnt expecting. i used to be able to let go of the throttle and scratch my nose and return to the throttle without bleednig off too much speed. Now I let go and it nearly jerked me off my seat. I plan to go over it once more andsee what else I should lube.
  11. I have signed up with the Indiana Patriot Guide Riders. My questions are, how many of you belong to both the National and a State orginization? How many to just one of them, State or National? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to belonging to both or just one? If you belong to both do you fly/display the National Patriot Guide flag, decals, etc. or the State items? Or maybe some of both? Thanks in advance for your response(s).
  12. I went to put new oil seals in my 86 last night, and it seems the PO, or his mech had left out a few parts when they were last worked on...AAARGH! the shop manual names them spring seat, and guide. funny shaped washer and tube piece at the top of the forks. i test rode it before i knew these were missing and it didnt seem bad, but id like to find the parts, the guide does not show available from dealers and junk yards only want to sell whole fork set ups. Any one have extra parts lyin around theyd be willing to sell?
  13. http://venturerider.org/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif They just about skipped GA Given the omissions of great rides that aren't included in the official publication by the Department of Transportation. I think it would be a good idea if the VentureRiders put out our own diffinative tour guide of all of the great rides all over the country. We have enough members to cover a good part of the world. Each of us could submit write ups of our own favorite rides in our home states, provinces and countries. they could then be compiled into a publication that could be sold through the internet and the proceeds could be used to support the Venturerider.org forum. What do yall think?
  14. I saw this info on another bike site I frequent and thought it was too good not to share with everyone here. The link below will take you to a page to request a free brochure on Scenic Highways & Byways. The site is a little misleading though. http://www.volusiariders.com/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif The "brochure" is actually a 464 page guide published by National Geographic (cover price is $25.00). The guide gives a brief overview & map of the top 275 drives in the US. Not quick, but no cost, so the price is right and you'll have it all winter to browse through and plan next summer's rides. Have mine on order now, Larry http://www.byways.org/map_request.html http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/jmaxwell99/Posted%20pictures/IMG_0022.jpg
  15. On the upper front engine mount there is a guide tube between mounts with the solid mounts does this guide tube still fit in between with the solid mounts it doesnt seem like it?
  16. Pretty good video...about 10 minutes I think. "Guide to Group Riding". [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erpkyD7SMfw]YouTube - Motorcycle Safety Foundation Guide To Group Riding[/ame]
  17. Has anyone purchased the Saver's guide chip and card offered for the zumo-550 by Garmin? It's $49 for a year... I wonder how easy it is to use for hotels and such. I don't mean -as they describe it - I mean in actual fact. We just completed a 2100 mile 9 day trip up the Calif coast from Huntington Beach to Crescent City and across to Yosemite and down to Sequoya and back. Stayed where possible at hotels listed in the Saver's guide which is available at Dennys, McDonalds and others. Prices were good, although quality varied. Would have preferred more choices... It seems this would be convenient, but would like to hear from someone who has actually used it.
