  1. Ok Folks, I started a post to see if there was interest in a Houston Maintenance Day, folks are sounding like they want one. So here it is, Saturday October 27th will be the main work day, but anyone wanting to come over Friday afternoon and spend a couple of nights are more than welcome. We have 2 1/2 acres and plenty of space for pop up trailers and tents. I have all the tools we'll need to do just about anything you want to try and accomplish. I will ask that you bring whatever fluids you want to change with you. I do have a vacuum bleeder, a Carb and Color Tune, and I'll borrow the tire machine from Doodle and we can do some tires if folks want to. If you can give a yea or nay up top it will give me an idea of how much grub we need to think about. If you have any questions PM me or give me a call, my cell is in my profile. Looking forward to seeing all the brethren again
  2. It's been a while since the Houston brethren got together, and it's long over due. What say ye to having a fall MD at our place in Cleveland? Lots of room here, the weather will be breaking in a couple of weeks. So would their be any interest in fixing on some bikes and lots of BSing, and a BBQ? Post up your thoughts and we'll see if we want to set a date or not
  3. Is anyone going to this for 2012? I still have 2.5 weeks oif vacation and I am thinking about attending but would like to have company. It looks like this is a very large gathering and there would be some great rides out of the area as well as a number of events to participate in. Would welcome sharing a room in the area and perpahs a ride along on the way up from Houston area. I will probably head from Houston on Wednesday and stop just over the OK line for a night at the casino then head to Fayetteville thrusday morning and stay until Sunday morning. Anyone in Texas going? Anyone intrested in Meeting etc just let me know and we'll share numbers etc. I found a reltatively inexpensive room in Rogers Arkansas 10 miles frm Fayetteville as Fayetteville seems sold out already and would be willing to share with someone who needs a room. LEt me know and we'll get things going Link to event. http://www.bikesbluesandbbq.org/ James
  4. Looking for a go cart for my youngest and found Discount Go Carts and curious if any members around Houston have heard anything positive or negatives on these guys. Thanks
  5. The people in Belgium are completely insane!! But what a fun place to live! Wouldn't want to try this stunt in the U.S. though. No offence to our below the border friends, but can you imagine what would happen if they did that in New York city or Houston, Texas? What am I talking about? Watch the video... http://gizmodo.com/5901035/what-happens-when-you-push-the-button Andy
  6. Any one up for a ride saturday morning?

  10. What: Houston area, SE texas Maintenance Day When: August 21, 2010 - 0700 until ?? Where: My humble abode in NW Houston. (Address published later) Why: The date selected is only 2 weeks before the Pork-In-The-Pines ho-down in Minnesota. I for one will be making the 1400 mile trek up to meet and visit with our northern friends and want to make sure my bike is prepped. Anyone else planning to attend that event can use this MD to get ready. The more eyes on your bike, the better. Food: Main course - brisket prepared by one of the finest BBQ chefs in the area. Accommodations: There are several hotels/motels very close by and I will post more info on them later. Sorry, I have no camping room available. Perhaps one of the local members will offer up something. I have plenty of tools for use however I do not have a tire changer. I'm sure there will be tires to change so maybe someone will lug one along. This run for the northern boarder will also be the first leg of an extended, 2 week, solo trip for me. From Minnesota I will head to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and then down the Tail of the Dragon on my way back to Houston. I should be on the road for about 2 weeks and cover a bit over 4000 miles. So that's pretty much the plan at this point. I know it will be a fine Texas day with heat and humidity as usual. There will be plenty of iced beverages, shade and maybe even some ice cream to help keep you cool. And yes, the house AC will be on for your pleasure! Ya'll come on by...
  11. Well I thought I had all the chrome I could get on my bike but I found a place in Houston where I can get a set of Chrome Wheels for $700.00 including new seals, bearings and Installed.. Needless to say I will be in Houston on 4/5/2011 getting them installed. I will also be getting a few extras that I dont need but I love to get things "Tweaked". I cant hardly wait!!!
  12. I was looking at a map of Indiana and seen this road of 446. It is south of where you go a cross Lake Monroe and where comes in to a town of Meumee. Then you could take W CR 1000 to Houston then Huston road to 135 and come out above Freetown. Anyone from Indiana been a cross this road. If so how is it ?
  13. Specifically Houston Texans?? I'm only asking because Mario Williams (#90) is from Richlands... I was 4 years ahead of him in school, but my BIL and him grew up together... His father lives not even 1/2 mile down the dirt road I live on, his Grandmother is across the street, and his cousins... Well, they're the ones that raise pit bulls for fighting, and had the Pit Bull that killed my dog a few months ago. (For those of you wondering, the Pit Bull and I had a run in a few weeks later and the Pit Bull didn't fair so well.) I've met them all, and his father seems rather nice... His grandmother is FUNNY (in an old-crotchety-paranoid-kinda-way) and I'll just bite my toungue about the cousins... I just find it amazing the money some NFL players make, and his family lives in borderline poverty! A few years ago he bought his Grandmother a new washer and dryer, bought his Dad a Dodge Ram, and that was it. He hasn't been back to visit, and doesn't do anything else for them... Maybe I'm just a bird of a different feather, but if I was pulling anywhere even CLOSE to even $90k a year, I'd take care of the people who raised me... Okay, I'm done ranting.
  14. OK, accumulating too much stuff around here. I have two extra motors so I am offering up one almost complete motor off an 86. It is minus the carbs and starter. It is still installed in the frame cradle. So, if anyone would like this motor and is willing to pay shipping, it's yours. When I purchased it a couple years back, according to the fellow down Houston way that sold it to me, it ran when the bike was completely disassembled. It looks awful but it's all there and the covers can be cleaned up and recoated.
  15. A member here is letting me have a 1986 1300 motor, It is located in the Ft. Worth, Tx. area. I was wondering if anyone would be in that area would be making a trip to Houston, time doesnt matter, I can get the motor picked up in the Houston area by my son who is over there on a regular basis. My only other option is to get it shipped, which would be quite expensive and that just isnt in the budget right now........I would also need a place to have it dropped in Houston, hopefully a member local to Houston could help me out in that respect...........I know we have quite a few there, even Cupcake might be able to help.

  17. May 15th and hoping to arrive May 18th, I am going for my first Long Distance Solo ride from Houston to Vegas. I am playing in a big pool tournament. I'm going I10 to Fort Stockton, then taking 285 North towards Roswell, New Mexico. Going North from Rosewell to Albuquerque, NM. Then taking Hwy 40 on in to Las Vegas. If anyone has any information that that they think I need to take with me or any ideas about my trip, please let me know. I am pulling a trailer as I will be camping a long the way so I have camping supplies, tools & a bit of gas. I could use all the advise I could get. Thanks, Hal PS have 15 days off and I will be doing some site seeing on the way home to houston. (ie; Grand Canyon, 4 corners, and where ever else) :dancefool:
  18. Just got back from my trip to view the latest shuttle launch. I did my first Iron Butt trip leaving thursday from Houston to the Kennedy Space Center to view Launch on Friday. Went 1056 miles in 16 hrs. Great weather for the ride over, met along the way with some fellow Houston riders on Goldwings. Venture rode fine as always, seat did great with Rick Butlers mod. Only lost a highway light by a rock on the way back. Got a little wet on the ride back thru Baton Rouge, and was hot getting back into Texas. Have cleaned the bike and ready to go out again. Here are a few pics of the launch.
  19. I was traveling south on US 59 near downtown Houston in the cage with the wife about 6:30 PM Saturday (10/24) when an RSV and an RSTD went by me, then they took the 45 South exit. Was that anybody here?
  20. I am signed up for the coming Saturday for RLAP in houston. last communication i had with them, i was the only person signed up for class. If anyone is interested, it would be nice to have additional riders. a buddy and myself will be heading over on Friday to spend the night & then attend class Saturday (9-12-09). afterwards we are going to head to Galveston & find a place on the beach for lunch. then a bit of riding around before heading back to central Louisiana. dale in La p.s. my buddy is not attending the class, just an excuse to take his HD for a ride.
  21. I wrote to the Houston Ride Like A Pro (HRLAP) to inquire about schedules and discounts. The website hadn't been updated in forever, and it seemed defunct. However, that is NOT the case. HRLAP is alive and well. They are updating the schedule today or tomorrow. If we can get at least 8 riders, we qualify for a $25 discount off the $150 price. I have a buddy who might take the class, and am looking for 6 others. More than 8 would be even better, given how schedules change, etc etc. Doing this sort of thing is hard to schedule, but I am going to toss April 18th out there because it works for me. Anyone interested in that date?
  22. ....Lonna that is. She and her daughter are on their way to Houston as her mother fainted and is in the hospital. Seems she might have suffered a stroke, she's anemic and is recieving blood transfusions. Lonna talked with her this morning and she was pretty cohereant. Unfortunately I could not join her as someone has to make money to pay for it, but she's rolling. Right now she's in Indianapolis at DanOB11's for the evening and will spend the night with Dan and Rose, tomorrow she's on her way further down to who know's where I'd like to thank Dan and Rose for their hospitality and keeping my baby safe and with friends. I think that she will make it to hopefully Little Rock Arkansas and stay somewhere in that area tomorrow night and then on to Houston on Thursday. I know our Houston members will make her feel right at home. So if you see a crazy little redhead with her 30 YO blonde daughter in a Burgundy Buick Rainier with Michigan plates on some south bound Interstate, honk and wave.
  23. To that member looking for a Midnight Venture here is one in Houston for http://www.searchtempest.com/results.php?Region=na&statesel=&citysel=&statecodes=&citycodes=&catname=motorcycles%2Fscooters&citySelect=zip&majorsPrc=20&majorsOnly=0&maxDist=1900&zip=77377&showeb=1&category=8&subcat1=ccc&subcat2=eee&subcat3=ggg&subcat4=hhh&subcat5=jjj&subcat6=ppp&subcat7=res&subcat8=mcy&subcat9=bbb&hasPic=1&minAsk4=min&maxAsk4=max&bedrooms=&minAsk6=min&maxAsk6=max&minAsk8=min&maxAsk8=max&doa=&search_string=yamaha+venture&keytype=all&search_string_neg=
  24. I would like to invite each of you to my local dealers bike night, this is always a good time. Every couple of months they put on this event and it has gotten bigger and better each time. We are about 30 miles East of Houston Texas and the event will be held Feb.28 from 4-8 pm, I am posting the link to the information on their webpage. http://www.tejasmotorsports.com/event_detail.asp?event=348086
  25. Anyone have any experience with Buffalo airport park and fly. There are a few there. Just wondering which one in better or worse. We are heading to Houston on Christmas day, going to Louisiana for a few days and returning on Mon. the 29th. Gunboat I'm taking your phone# with me. We might have time on Sun. to get ahold of you.
