  1. Some of you who have been around since the early days will remember Dan Lowery. Dan was one of the original officers when I started the "Venturers" site. I honestly don't remember if he ever joined this site or not but he and I did remain friends over the years. We rode together a couple of times when I lived in Dallas. I got word today that Dan passed away on January 9th which also happened to be his birthday. Dan was a good man and will be missed by those who knew him. Please say a prayer for his family and friends.
  2. OK, Dan.....I vote that you come out of your corner now. Surely you've been there long enough to pay your debt. It's just too boring around here with you standing in the corner. I think of the good old days of following along as you built your garage. What fun!!! Come out, come out, wherever you are!!
  3. Happy Birthday Dan!! Hope you have a good one.
  4. On Wednesday, 8/22/12, our son Dan is moving out to attend Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, SD to study auto mechanics. Doreen and I are both saddened by this and at the same time very happy. Dan has a good head on is shoulders and we did the best we could to prepare him for the "Real World" out there. Sioux Falls is only an hour drive from Madison and he will be coming back most weekends, if nothing else to see his girlfriend and do his laundry. Hope he has some time for a ride while the weather permits. I already have standing orders to ride his Nighthawk once in a while just to keep it limbered up. He has plans to eventually open his own shop and is thinking about calling it "BENDT RODS". Stay Safe, Dave
  5. Who would have thought Dan was worth so much....Saw an article titled: Microsoft Said to Agree to Buy Yammer for $1.2 Billion
  6. I have proof that Yammer Dan loves the 2nd gens
  7. We ordered a Morgn CarbTune online on the 24th of May. Recieved it today, the 31st of May! Whart great service. Dan and I are going to have our own mini-maintenence day on our bikes as soon as the valve cover gaskets come in for my '84. I feel so much more confident in doing repairs and service on my bike because I know that if I get into a jam, the folks here can always come through and bail me out. I have saved a copy of the PDF that rstacy made from Skydoc's step by step for the first gen. I will be printing this and taking it to the garage with me. Dan found a fourm for his Nighthawk, www.nighthawk750.com. That site is almost as friendly as this one. Not nearly as active, but has a lot of good info on it. There is step by step instructions to sync his carb there. With pics! I don't know if we can get at it this weekend, it is Dan's 18th birthday on Sunday. The weather is supposed to be mostly sunny and warm. Maybe I will go for a ride with Dan and work on the bikes later. Take care, Dave
  8. I ordered two new batteries for the first gens today. With gasoline prices rising looks like more riding for me. Now to figure out my fuel economy problem on the 84. I normally get 36 mpg but when I ride with Yammer Dan I only get 24 mpg. Must be a fuel leak somewhere?
  9. Oh boy oh boy!! We are finally starting our 3 week vacation today! Driving down to Florida then taking an 8 day cruise followed by a day at Disney then heading back. The thing that is going to give this vacation that extra special touch is meeting up with members of the VR family along the way! As many of you know this site is special and very dear to my heart so I am really looking forward to the commute. Tonight is West Virginia meeting up with Skid and Yammer Dan. Haven't seen Skid since Asheville in '07 I think. Dan I always see at MD. We're leaving around 10:00 and having lunch in Erie Pa. Here's the link to the original thread... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66301
  10. Hello Everyone: Last weekend, Graderman46 and I escaped for a short ride. Dan rode his "Work Bike" stock 06 RSTD. We stopped about 20 miles north of town and swapped bikes. It was interesting to finally see my own bike from the rear. Made me appreciate the lighting improvements. By the time I got back to town, my neck was on fire!!! I was missing my Flanders Bars, Butler seat mod. and Utopia backrest. Dan got to test ride a modified bike and compare also. Sure is nice having friends!!!!!
  11. Folks, I hate having to post this type of information but I just received an email from Rosemary Obert that Dan Obert (Dano) was involved in a motorcycle accident this morning. I know very little at this time. The following is the email that I received. Please keep our friend Dano in your thoughts and prayers. Rosemary wrote: Dan has been in a motorcycle accident this morning on his way to work. Eight point buck and motorcycle don't mix. He is at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in neuro critical care unit. All we want is prayers please.
  12. Dan Weldon lost his life today at the final race of the season at Las Vegas on lap 13 in a 15 car accident.........he was 33 years young. Rest in Peace Dan.........our prayers go out to his family and friends and the IRL.
  13. Who won the game last night? The Deadskins or the Cowgirls
  14. Did you happen to notice to date, we now have 11,450 registered members ? Can you imagine if all of them would participate and show up at Don's for MD next year? Dan you may not have room to park that Diesel rig next year! We may need to get Eileen a lot of boxes of wine! Yama Mama
  15. Dan's 1983 CM250 custom sold a week ago to a lady in Sioux Falls, SD who is just learning to ride. They come up to check it out an did not even haggle on the price. I guess we had is too low at $700.00. Got out about what we put in and they got a good deal so every body is happy. After much research, internet surfing, and many conversations, we finally found Dan a bigger bike. We found him a 1991 Honda CB750 Nighthawk. It has about 30,000 mile on it but is in great shape. We brought it home Wednesday evening and Dan had to take it out to show all his buddies. Before he left, I reminded him of how much more power the 750 has over the 250. When he got home, he had a HUGE smile on his face. I knew we got the right one. When he got off the bike in the garage, he told me that he will have to be careful with this. he said he was surprised by the power. He said this without my having to ask him. I think this shows a great level of maturity in him. We are already planning where to ride when he gets used to the Nighthawk. Now he want to get a matching helmet! At least he is looking at full faced ones. Thanks for all the input on my previous posts about this. Dave
  16. None other that Driver Dan!!! (IH Truck Guy) Seems that Dan had a load that was heading to Beaumont TEXAS for a Monday delivery. He texted me on Friday and we ended up meeting him in Liberty for supper at Chili's and were able to gab and eat for about 3 hours. He showed up in his Barney Mobile, nice Freightliner funny color Now let me tell you folks that haven't met Dan, or his wife Shari something. If you get the opportunity to meet them both or even just Dan....do so. We had them over to the house in Michigan for a M&E and laughed until 3am about some of their misadventures. Anyone that was at the '09 Freebird maintenance Day or the '08 Kitchener Rally will attest to this. It was awesome being able to see Dan again, unfortunately Shari was still up in Wisconsin, but we did get to talk with her on the phone after Dan took our pic and texted it to her. 1st words on her text back was "You Suck!" you get to see them and I dont It was great spend a little time with Dan and I'm glad we got the opportunity to do so. Thanks for meeting us for supper Buddy, we'll have to try and do it again soon
  17. Kirby I posted this in open forum instead of PM, so anyone else who wants to join up can. The plan is to ride down to the glades and go for Air boat rides, and then plan from there. And of course anyone you choose to invite is Welcome. Tell Dan there is no whimping out this year and I'm gonna tell David the same. Let me know what you think Gregg
  18. I hadn't seen Yammer on here lately and thought maybe he was scootin' through PA when I saw this in the York Daily Record: State Police do not keep speed records. But if they did, the motorcyclist clocked at 147 miles per hour last night on Interstate 81 in Silver Spring Township would likely rank high on the list, police said. Was that you Dan?
  19. My 16 YOA son, Dan, passed his MSF Course this past weekend. He scored 96% on the written and only had one minor mistake on the driving course. He has been driving around town on the little Honda we found. This is going to be great, another rider to DQ! I had a stragne occurance a couple of weeks ago. I rode to the bank to make a deposit for work and a fellow followed me into the parking lot. He approached me and said the he used to ride a Goldwing until he wrecked a couple of years ago. He said that he had some riding gear he would like to sell. Doreen and I went to his house and discovered that he and his wife had two leather jackets, a women's textile jacket (with back, elbow, and shoulder removable padding), womens nylon wind chaps and a pair of men's leather chaps. The bigger leather jacket was too small for me and too large for either Doreen or Dan. The smaller leather jacket fits Dan great. We purchased the the nylon chaps, textile jacket, leather chaps (for me) and the coat for Dan. They were happy to get them to someone who will use them and we were happy to get all this for just $200.00! I know the textile jacket is that much alone when new. Sometimes it is nice that things work out. Usually, for me, I step in the cow pie, this time I was able to step over it. Dave
  20. Dan, I need a replacement radio/intercom/CB control unit. Poledar has one from a 1984 1st Gen will it fit my 2007 2nd Gen???????
  21. You're not the only one that gets to be home today..... Its a HOLIDAY !
  22. Insurance,Insurance,Insurance,Insurance,Insurance,Insurance,Insurance!!! Boomer....who figgers that oughtta get him off his rug and snarling..... :D
  23. i was in peoria illinois today to do a little gambling. saw 2 bikes in the lot. and went to take a look. 2 nice men where comming out to get on them. both are heading home. to AZ one was driving a 86 other a 88. 86 was a nice gold. 88 looks like a repaint? blue and silver. the 86 owner was named dan. and the other john. i didnt catch the last name right. sounded like mahder? brothers. if this was you. i want to say thanks. for letting me pick your minds a little. about gas milage. handling. and how far they where comming from. these where great guys. who where a little cold. but then hooked up what looked like heated gear. and off they went. not before dan did a tire burn out. didnt think these ventures could do that? i told them about this site. so maybe i got 2 new members to hook up.
  24. Let me know gang; it's been a hoot. Then I'll summarize it all for all, or do as Dan advises. Thanks to all who've posted on the age question. Youngest is so far 24; oldest, 77. Jack Tharp Fort Collins, CO
  25. OK, first I just want to say that this thread is only an update for general info, so please dont add to this thread. I would like to thank those who have purchased these deflectors. And for their great patience with this project. We have shipped out 16 sets so far. It also turned out to be a very labor intensive project which requires hours of sanding, machine first then up to 2000 grit sanding by hand. Just about all of the finishing is being done by one man, Dan. Right now Dan is a bit under the weather and he needs a few days to recuperate from his illness so there will be a short delay in finishing the remaining sets on the first run. Hopefully Dan can resume making these by this weekend. Sorry for this inconvienence.......
