  1. Some of you who have been around since the early days will remember Dan Lowery. Dan was one of the original officers when I started the "Venturers" site. I honestly don't remember if he ever joined this site or not but he and I did remain friends over the years. We rode together a couple of times when I lived in Dallas. I got word today that Dan passed away on January 9th which also happened to be his birthday. Dan was a good man and will be missed by those who knew him. Please say a prayer for his family and friends.
  2. Have fun with family and friends but stay safe and avoid the roads if you can.
  3. Merry Christmas to all! Let us not forget those who are less fortunate than yourselves. Let us remember the service men and women that protect us and our freedoms. Remember the police fireman and first responders those that have to work on these holidays so that we can enjoy the time with our families. Remember our VenturRider members that may not be feeling very good and the sick. We have members out there that could use a little help, some prayers and maybe just a friendly kind word from one or more of us. Reach out and pay it forward. It is so much better than getting a gift for yourself, at least I think so. Remember your family and remember your friends. Life is great, God is good and friends are friends. May you all have a happy and safe Christmas and a great new year. Bubber
  4. From our house to yours, we wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.
  5. With the Holidays upon us I would like to share a personal experience with my friends about drinking and driving. As you may know some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a “social session” out with friends. Well two days ago I was out for an evening with friends and had several cocktails followed by some rather nice white wine. Feeling jolly I still had the sense to know that I may be slightly over the limit. That’s when I did something that I’ve never done before – I took a cab home. Sure enough on the way home there was a police road block but since it was a cab they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before, I don’t know where I got it and now that it’s in my garage I don’t know what to do with it.
  6. Dear Santa, I don't want much for Christmas, I just want the person reading this to be happy . Friends are the fruit cake of life - some nutty, some soaked in alcohol, some sweet - but mix them together and they're my friends. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
  7. I am looking for help from our Venture rider friends in Georgia. We just bought our first American Mastiff Puppy. There is a family in Georgia that purchased theirs one month earlier. The family has 5 children ages 17-3. Just found out the mom has had surgery and will be out of work for at least 8 weeks and the Dad just had his knee cap dislocated and is looking at surgery and unable to work at this time. Our American Mastiff friends are looking to help out by donating gift cards, money and presents for the kids. I need to know what grocery stores, clothing stores, ext.. are in Georgia. The family is having to get rid of their new Mastiff puppy which is heartbreaking for the family, If my family can help Corie and Adam give their kids a better Christmas they will be so much appreciative. Thank you Georgia Friends. God Bless Tinystar
  8. A couple of my RSV friends have moved their trunk & passenger backrest back 1" by removing the mount bolts and and repositioning the whole assembly back one set of holes. Seen it done with 4 bolts and 6. Seems like a simple idea to give the passenger an extra inch of breathing room. I did not see this in the RSV tech library. Is there already a post on "How to"? I hope to do this today. (hints from my friends: Remove the passenger seat when you do it because when you move the trunk, it will pull on the com cord. The one with 6 bolts got said he picked up 6mm bolts from Lowes.)
  9. Al and I look forward every year to the PIP get to gether. We love the ride but more so to see everybody again. The friendships we made will last us a life time. Each and everyone , wether they are old friends or new ones, is so unique. For a few days we are leaving our everyday life behind and replacing it with fun and laughter. I must say it is well worth it. This year we were missing a few friends who could not make it (Mike & Jodee, we missed you ) hope you will be back next year. Lowell, you were on everybodies mind, God speed my friend, hoping our pass will cross again someday. THANKS Ann and Gary, for your hospitality and everyone who makes this PIP happening every year. Allready thinking what I can bake for next year. LOL P.S Marilyn , I hope you feel better. :bighug:
  10. Here are some pictures we took at Pork in the Pines. We had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone! good food and good friends. Thanks, Tom and Anne
  11. Just want to offer up our prayers for our families, friends, members in the areas being hit by Hurricane Issac. Its no Katrina but still a deadly storm. Charlene and I have plenty of family and friends there, hope everyone makes it through, we also have many members in the storm area and they are in our prayers. What makes it hard for us is that its hitting the same area 7 years later, what an anniversary..........not one we want to be reminded of. God bless everyone affected.
  12. Starting on Oct. 1st, Barb and I will be travelling with some friends, heading west from Illinois and ending up in Albuquerque in time for the Balloon Fiesta. Our daughter lives in Albuquerque, and we were out there last year for the Fiesta. We live in northern Illinois, and our friends live in the southern tip, so it'll probably be best for us to meet near St. Louis, and head west to Colorado Springs. I've already decided that I want to ride through Wolf Creek Pass (again), and then like C.W. Mcall says in the song, end up in downtown Pagosa Springs, and from there we'll travel down to Sante Fe, and into Albuquerque. Something else I'd like to do is to ride up Pikes Peak. Is this too late in the year to think of doing that on a bike, or is there a posibilty that the freshly paved road up will be snow free? Any other suggestions of things to do in south west Colorado? We went to Sante Fe & Los Alamos last year, but our friends have never stopped there, so that's a stop we'll take. Also in the plans are to ride south from Albuquerque and visit Roswell. Anybody know of anything else to see in New Mexico?? Frank D.
  13. Jack may get upset with me doing this - as often he is a very private person - but "we" all are family and I would ask if we could make a moment for he and his family. I received this e-mail from him this morning: Dear Friends, Last evening at aproximately 8 o'clock Nadine lost her battle with liver cancer and peacefully passed on to a better place. We were married for 45 years, and she was the love of my life. In passing she was surrounded by family and friends. Memorial service will be held on July 21st at Trinity Life Center, Sacramento Ca. More details to follow.. Jack Barbara and I send our love and prayers to you and your family, Jack. May Nadine rest in peace.
  14. I forgot to get my $12.00 sent in Its taken care of thanks to Sharon she takes such good care of me when it comes to things like this. I do good just to get out a post and to make a payment well I will say no more and yes I said THANKYOU THANKYOU I dont know what I would have done. There is no better way to spend $12.00 than here I have met some of the nicest people on here and have made some new friends and the information I have gotten is priceless. I had a member ask me how I liked this group and the site and I said it was one of the best things I had ever done. When Sharon and me got married she had her freinds and me mine and her friends and mine are from diffrent worlds. Now we have been blessed with a whole bunch of new friends that we call our freinds all I can say Thanks for letting us join in and be part of all of this and I look forward to more. Orlin and Sharon
  15. Big Bird starts his radiation today. It will be what seems like a very long and frustrating 5 weeks for him, but with prayers, family and friends i know he'll make it just fine!! Please pray for family & Big Bird..
  16. Always check your bike when your "Friends" have been around it! I have no idea when it happened but a "friend" (AKA KEN) was showing me his NEW chrome tail light frame and I thought it was like COOL! Well that was a week ago at the IA, IL, WI, MO, MN M&E. And I have walked past MY bike in the garage at least 20 times since then. I can spot a dust bunny or a hair on it (thinking it's a scratch) at 50 feet! Well then today I was heading out to grill, looked down at my tail light and said "WHAT THE #$LL" is that? Looked closer and low and behold my "friend's" chrome piece is on MY bike!!! How cool is that to have such good friends? And what do you want to bet they are all LAUGHING at me cause I never noticed! :banana:YA, you all know who you are, Ken (920shrek1), Mike (Eusa1 + Cheri) And last but not least Rick (Rick Haywood + Shirley), even my wife Lisa never said anything!. You all did good not letting on! Sorry it took so long for me to OPEN my eyes!! Thank you! It's good to have friends! Bryan
  17. Just a reminder about the Newnan, Ga. M & E, this Sat. July 7th, come on out for a good ride, good food and great friends, new and old...............check out the info here...... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70874 :Venture:
  18. Well this is the first time I had to cancle a rally, but can't make the NY rally. We had a rough go the last couple months and finance's won't allow us to make the trip. I wan't to thank Big Tom for being so understanding and if you are still on the fence about going, go, I gaurantee you'll have a great time with the New York and Canadian folks. Boy, this really messed up my vacation plans, we were going to see several friends along the way and some family in NY. Also was going to try out the new passport and help some freinds, break in there new house in Canada. Oh well you guys have fun and be safe.
  19. July 7th is one week away............Good riding, good friends, maybe some new friends and best of all Great BBQ........Here is the info...... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70874 Hope to see you there!!!
  20. Came out today that once again Flint Michigan is the most violent City is the USA. We fell to number 3 last year after holding the #1 ranking for the two years before, but took the #1 spot back by a wide margin over #2 Detroit. It really isn't funny, it has got so bad around here. My Daughter was begging me the other night to move away from here, she said even if we can't move South she wants away from Flint. Two of her friends (14 yr old) were jumped walking home from the bus stop last week. Doesn't matter day or night the thugs have no fear anymore. OK enough whining, back to my corner.
  21. Hello Everyone: Finally took a weekend off from Estate issues. Patrolman46 and Babe asked us to attend a 3 day biker event in a nearby town. Took the car down and back on Friday night, but met them in Alliance NE yesterday morning on the bike. while we were waiting for them to arrive, a nice couple from Tulsa OK approached us. They introduced themselves and the husband mentioned how nice my 05 TD and Harley trunk looked. He mentioned they previously owned a 06 RSTD but just traded it for a 2010 Ultra. He quickly noticed a few of the usual modifications. He was not aware of the VR site. They were trailer their new bike to the Black hills and asked for lodging suggestions. We suggested they stay at the Chief Motel in Custer and besure to locate the Purple Pie Place!!! When Patrolman46 and Babe arrived they thought this new couple and us had been friends for years!!!! Donnie took a picture of Dan's 2000MM and sent it to a friend. We crossed paths with Donnie and Holly again in Chadron before we turned and headed west. New friends are a blessing!!!
  22. Looks like ( Larry, Joe & I) we're going South of the border into Canada tomorrow. We'll make our way up to Sarnia for the return trip, who knows where we'll go in between both bridge crossings. Maybe Grand Bend. Any of our Canadian friends wanna meet for lunch or suggest some good roads to ride? Any more riders coming speak up now.
  23. Quick question. We have a 99 venture and have talked with friends about a ride in the mountains of Colorado. Friends with fuel injected bikes have concerns about ours not being fuel injected. Surely it's not a big enough issue to be concerned with, but thought I'd ask if anybody had experience with this. Thanks for the input, Creole.
  24. It's called Black Death for a reason. The pond Monsters are an urban Legend/Myth A packed umbrella would have been more usefull than the packed harpoon Beware of long heart tugging stories told by Skydoc There was no Strippers tent at MD in spite of what Starbog says. Always take your cold weather gear to MD no matter how hot it was last year and it is held in June. Bring more money next time to Skydoc's table It's great to find a new audience for my old jokes. It's a small world, found new friends who live in Ohio that met and married a mile from my house in Atlanta It was not neccessary to compromise my morals by stealing that roll of toilet paper from the motel the night before after Don posted to bring your own. They had plenty. Beware of Starbog's five dollar footlong. It was not a winner (in my case) Pink is a manly color. Never walk on site with an unopened Dairy Queen sack containing a Butterfinger Blizzard especially if Big Tom is around. If RandyR predicts that we are about to ride into the storm of the century with 70mph wind 3" rain per hour and 2" hail, disregard there is only smooth sailing ahead. Yamma Mama and Moped are just as I imagined them to be over the past few years, and that's a good thing. This event is attended only by old and new friends. Don and Eileen are super people and the most gracious and generous host. But everyone that has ever been to a MD already knew that. Don, Thanks for the good times and great memories I had a great time. It was well worth the long ride and price of admission. I forgot there was no admission price, or was there????????.... Do I owe you any money???????....... Do you take paypal????? Love you man, mean it
  25. For the BLACK DEATH.....The new members who never had this before will remember you for sure.....There are pics floating around somewhere of your friends TOASTING YOU......Thank you again........
