  1. Well the insurance just left and gave me a check for my totaled '07 RSTD Midnight...it covered about half what i had invested into the bike. considering my wife and i put on about 38K miles over the past 6.5 years, i consider the check fair and equitable. I will place parts in classified if there is any interest. I have complete windscreen assembly (chrome midnight version), complete pillion assembly- both these assembly look brand new, brand new (never installed) left cowling, new "SKYDOC" brake bias kit and EBC double sintered FA 123HH disc pad set. if interested you can PM me or answer this post. it sure is tough saying goodbye to my bike, she was a trusty and reliable friend, who never once left me stranded....farewell Black Beauty !
  2. Evan

    Supershow

Made it to the "International Motorcycle Supershow" here in Toronto today. Lots of people and interesting bikes. Here are just a few. The first is a 1901 model, complete with wood rims, a kerosene headlight and a luggage rack. Also saw this Slingshot.
  3. Bought this bike about a week and a half ago. It was a pathetic, ugly, dirty mess. The windshield was so swirly, I had to look over it on the way home. My wife and I spent about 30 hours disassembling, cleaning, waxing and reassembling. Took it for inspection and the mechanic was impressed at how complete the bike was; all the parts are there. I still have detailing to do on the engine, clutch cover, etc, but it's not too bad. It runs like a top- I call it The Cruise Missile. The more I ride it, the more I like it. Amazing how light all that weight can seem when in motion. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj290/cyprinut/1985%20Venture%20Royale/finished2.jpg
  4. Just purchased a new bagger shield to replace the orginal. Any information on how to complete this project would be most helpful. Thank You Joe
  5. Wind conditions improved. 30 million cf balloon is being laid out. Felix Baumgartner's suit up procedure is complete. Launch @ 11:15 MDT http://www.redbullstratos.com/
  6. No English dictionary has been able to explain the difference between the two words 'complete' and 'finished' in a way that's so easy to understand: Some people say there is no difference between COMPLETE & FINISHED but, there is an explanation… When you marry the right one, you are COMPLETE... And when you marry the wrong one, you are FINISHED... And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are... COMPLETELY FINISHED !!!
  7. Well here it is finally got it back together all painted, just a little more wheeling and she should look complete. Now a name plate for the back where the goldwing emblem came off. Hum-lets see maybe Goldstar, yamawing,??????????. Joe
  8. This was posted on you tube a few days ago and I hear the RCMP In the Victoria BC are looking for clues so they can hang this sportsbike rider out to dry for a while. This guy is a complete idiot and makes all of us riders look bad. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIUTXIsJz3o]victoria highway run 299km - YouTube[/ame] Brian
  9. When I got my '86 VR about 6 years ago, it was missing some things like the owners manual, cover for the Cassette, tool kit. I found most everything except the tool kit. Oh several of them showed up on E-bay, but I always lost out....TO THE SAME PERSON! yes, someone was hogging kits and cornering the market on VR tool kits. Now these are cool, with the VR logo, and more than just base tools, including a ratchet and socket set, but wow, this guy was bidding $200 and more sometimes for these things. I eventually gave up, bought a kit from another Yamaha and made up my own kit. then a couple weeks ago, I saw a nearly perfect complete kit on E-bay and decided to try. Got it for more money that it should cost for sure, but still less than those top bids a few years ago! So now my quest is complete, now I just need to get the bike running its best again! and fix a leak, and......... Anyone happen to know that E-bay'er that bought all those tool kits?
  10. OK folks, I got a call from Dean a few days ago, username dksmith196958. His shop burned down a few weeks ago and his bike was heavily damaged. The insurance company wants to total it but doesn't want to pay him what he thinks it is worth. Basically the only damage is to all the plastic so he is looking for any parts that our members might have available. The bike is titled as an '85 but from his description, slant bags and the small trunk, I think it is probably an '84. So, if you have any parts available, please post here and I'll get the information to him. He has no phone or internet service right now as the wiring going into his home was burned and is not up and running yet. Just let me know either here or via PM what you have and the prices that you are asking for them. He also mentioned that he would consider buying a complete bike if that is what it takes.
  11. YamaQman and I are trying to install this radiator grill on his 2001 RSV. It did not come with instructions and we are at a loss as to whether the radiator needs to be removed to complete installation. Does anyone have experience with this grill? It was purchased on ebay from autotrimdirect. Not sure how long it will take to get an answer from them.
  12. Well I finished doing the rear tire change it was not bad easier than other bikes I've done. But I must say coming up with a way to get the bike lifted on the jack was the hardest part! I'm going to have to get me or make a lift adapter! New tire and checked the brakes and greased up everything now I'm ready to go!!!!!!!!
  13. Does anyone out there have a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale triple tree complete with pinch bolts and the main shaft nut etc? With the information I received from a member I was put onto Steerite, which modifies your original triple tree. As noted above I would like to get a complete set to ship up and have modified. Then all I have to do is swap them out this winter. Thanks, Vic
  14. Someone on eBay was looking for an '83 parts bike per link at bottom of forum to ‘86 Venture. Can't contact that person through eBay site but it just so happens that I have one. Maybe someone knows the person. Bike is a 1983 plain Venture with 74,000 kilometers (about 46,000 miles). I was planning to restore it but have decided that I am parting this bike out or may sell as complete unit. Mechanical: This bike is complete and everything works. I haven't taken anything apart as prospective buyer may want to hear it run etc. The motor starts right up and runs strong but does need a tune up. Bike runs through all gears well. 2nd gear seems good even under acceleration (can't tell if repaired). Clutch is good. Battery is new this spring (but can't be shipped). Frame looks good. Suspension still held air. Wheels spin true. Rear-end final drive appears sound. Tires are worn. The wiring harness is intact and complete. Good radiator and cooling system looks OK. Instrument cluster is fully operative but lens cover is cracked. All chrome parts are dull and aluminum surfaces are weathered. Sorry, I need the exhaust crossover. Mufflers are rotted out. Brake controls are operating but need new pads. There is a brand new ignition switch with keys. Body: All three pieces of luggage are complete and have no cracks. One bag has small chip on backside. Upper fairing is complete but left side has a couple of broken tabs with a clean crack on underside that can be easily repaired. If requested, I can repair same to customer's satisfaction. Left lower fairing is cracked. Left inner fairing is broken. Both left and right consoles are badly broken containing Alpine car radio as replacement (assume as junk). As this bike is a plain Venture it lacks CLASS system and CB. All lights and lens are intact. The chrome center of left-side cover is marked from shifter. Chrome on both mirrors is marked on outside edge. Have both single and rocker type shifters. Frames for driver running-boards need re-chroming or painting. Passenger pegs. No engine guards. Gas cover has missing lock. The engine can only be sold as complete unit including tranny. A full set of photos are available for interested parties. Best offers decide.
  15. Hi All, Just wanted to get aquainted with everyone so that as I go through my project and ask for help you'll know what I'm up to. A couple er 3 years ago I started a project to put a Venture drive train and electronics into a legend's race car. Not just a standard legend but one that would have two seats and be registered for the road. Fast forward to now,,,,,,The frame has been widened and is complete, the body has been widened and is mostly complete except for the hood and grille. The rearend is installed with a 4link. The engine/trans is mounted but not yet connected to the drive shaft. The current project is the exhaust. We intend to run them into side pipes. The two biggest projects left is an offset drive between the trans and the drive shaft to reverse the direction of rotation and to get the output back to the center of the vehicle to line up with the drive shaft and of course the electrical system. I intend to incorperate the complete electrical system from the bike into the car including the dash board/speedometer, stereo, CB etc. At the moment I don't have any pictures handy but I'll try and get some posted later. Thanks in advance for allowing me to lean on your knowledge as I'm sure I will as I attempt to get this project going. TR
  16. Now with the right license plate my wife says the trailer is complete. She wanted our dog to follow us everywhere. Dennis
  17. I have a 2001 RSV, the base of the radio remote has crumbled, and is no longer able to be secured to the bracket. I used JB Weld, but was wondering if anyone knows a part number for just the plastic case. I have checked all the online catalogs, but only find the complete remote. Thanks in advance for you help.
  18. Greetings. Have been looking for a Venture trunk for my 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic. Can be found at PinWall Cycles but these clever guys tear them apart and sell them piece by piece $#/$#%#$%%$%####,,,,,So I have started buying things from different sellers on eBay and so far I have bought the Trunk frame and the backrest pillow. If anybody out there in VentureWorld knows of any part for the Venture trunk or a complete trunk that is available then please contact me. Desperately need a trunk so I can make Greta (the boss) comfortable on our trip in the States the coming June. Friendly regards from Iceland (Norway at the moment) Jonas
  19. Has anyone on the board ever upgraded their '99 CB and Radio antennas to the newer style. The pics and diagrams in the service pdf aren't all that great and leave a lot of questions. Just wondering what you had to do to get'r done.... I have the complete setup including the brackets. I'm not all that interested in doing the Marshall Antenna Mod, so those suggestions are gonna fall on deaf ears... Any insight would be appreciated....
  20. After acquiring 2 identical 1985 Ventures 18 months ago as a project to help rehab my knees after total knee replacements in Late July 2009, I finally have a complete, good looking, great running Venture Royal. It has been an experience. The primary bike was completely torn apart and it took 3 truck loads to get it all home BUT it had only 13500 miles on a one owner bike but had not been run in over 8 years and the original owner gave it to his son who took it apart with the thought of putting the motor in a golf cart. He got bored with the idea and through a friend offered the bike to me just to get it out of the garage. Free is good! The second bike I found when looking for a manual, went to pick up the manual and the owner asked "what about the bike that goes with it?" The bike was complete BUT had not moved in over 10 years and sat under a pine tree outside uncovered for the whole time. Fortunately the owner had pulled the bags and trunk and stored them in the basement. $30 for the manual and the bike (which we had to dig out since it sunk down to the frame in the soft dirt) Mice had nested in a variety of areas including the air box and had eaten some of the harness but the bike was a great template for assembling the good bike and great for getting useable components and fasteners that were missing or damaged when the first bike was taken apart. Some of the major issues that needed to be dealt with: The carbs - having 2 complete sets of carbs helped. The biggest problem during the entire project was determining why I could not get consistent fuel flow to one cylinder, turned out to be a hairline crack in one of the carb bodies sucking air took forever to diagnose and correct. Front fork tubes needed to be replaced, both sets had pitting and were drawing fluid up when compressed went wit new tubes (Forking by Frank) at around half the price of OEM. Brakes needed serious attention. Biggest problem was finding a replacement rear master cylinder and the rubber diaphragm for the inside of the rear brake reservoir. Once all the components were acquired rebuilding the system was pretty straight forward except for the right front brake which refused to bleed for the longest time. The clutch needed attention but having 2 full sets of components got me a solid working clutch. I'm not a big fan of hydraulic clutch systems just due to the added complexity. Cables are so much easier to deal with. Once all the mechanicals were taken care of, the electrical system came next and generally went fairly well, mostly checking, cleaning and replacing but every thing works. Final repair and reassembly of all the body work completed the project. I was amazed at how fragile some of the mounting points on much of the plastic were but I was also amazed at how much of the mounting hardware and grommets were still available. Repairing the plastic was definitely a learning experience. Unfortuneately much of the plastic from the second bike was badly deteriorated from the years out in the elements so repairing the first bikes plastic that was damaged in disassembly became my only option. The end result is now a very nice, very good running and very good looking motorcycle as original as I can get it within a very limited budget. I'm not new to resurrecting old motorcycles but this bike had a level of complexity that I had not worked with before. Having worked on a VMax sure helped. I want to thank those on this forum who offered parts and assistance and the owners of theis group for having a place that offers so much technical information. Without this group, this project would not be possible. By the way the knees turned out better than the bike and now I have to figure out what to do with 4 large storage bins of leftover parts! I'll post some pictures as soon as I can get some taken. Thanks again
  21. I had never seen an ad were you can buy your own Forestry 100' fire tower. There is one here locally on craigslist, complete taken down delivered and set up on your own property for $22,000. It is complete with a room with new windows, repainted and ready to go. Now I have seen it all.
  22. So, I went to the local dealer and they had a couple of intercom sets. I checked and they are about $350 elsewhere and about another $100 for an extra headset. I picked up both complete sets and was just going to take a headset out of one to complete the set (passenger and rider) and install it on my bike. Well it is not going to work for me cuz my wife only wears a half helmet. I got them at 200 a piece, so that is what I will sell them for to anyone that might want it from here. I will be posting it on EBay next week if not. Let me know. They are both new in the box. Search autocom kit 300 on Google and you can see the specs. Thanks Adam
  23. OK, accumulating too much stuff around here. I have two extra motors so I am offering up one almost complete motor off an 86. It is minus the carbs and starter. It is still installed in the frame cradle. So, if anyone would like this motor and is willing to pay shipping, it's yours. When I purchased it a couple years back, according to the fellow down Houston way that sold it to me, it ran when the bike was completely disassembled. It looks awful but it's all there and the covers can be cleaned up and recoated.
  24. Does anyone know where I can buy a complete rebuilt kit worth the money? Do they even make a complete rebuilt kit? By complete I mean one that has everything for the internal instead of having to buy jets and other things seperate. Or does anyone have a set of carbs that are ready to go on for sale? excuse my ignorance on this carb stuff but I gotta learn eventually to do things myself because the shops are just getting higher in price.
  25. Check out the following link. Has anyone here used these and is that a good price for a complete set? http://www.oldbikebarn.com/V-Max-XVZ1300-Athena-Engine-Gasket-Set;jsessionid=0a010a5c1f439c545b660eb94391950a94f545f08879.e3eSchuLcheTe34Pa38Ta38Lb3r0?sc=12&category=74302
