  1. Greetings all After 122,000 kms, I think I should change the FDO. I did a quick search for the method to do yourself. Anyone have a link or the procedure for doing it and the best oil to use?
  2. Well I completed the adjustments on both bikes (thanks Earl aka Skydoc_17 for shim kit, tool and great price on gaskets). Both bikes had never been done and both had 40K on them one bike took four shims and the other eight. It sure made a big difference in the engine noise and a noticeable increase in performance. I followed the procedure in the tech library and picked Earl's brain some. The whole procedure took a whole day on the first bike and most of a day on the second the procedure it self was a snap however it requires a lot of patience and time. If anyone around me wants to do this I am more than willing to help now that I have done it, just get the stuff you need and give me a shout. By the way $12 saved me at least $400
  3. Wind conditions improved. 30 million cf balloon is being laid out. Felix Baumgartner's suit up procedure is complete. Launch @ 11:15 MDT http://www.redbullstratos.com/
  4. I saw some instructions in the 1st Gen maintenance folder on eingine swap. Was wonder if anyone has documented a more detail procedure. Also any differences to consider when putting a 91 VR into an 89 VR.
  5. Anyone have a good step by step procedure on how to swap an MKII carb. My 89 carbs are acting up and would like to put the carbs from my wrecked 91 in. Then I'll rebuild the 89 carb.
  6. Entertainment Icon Dick Clark passed away this morning (Wednesday) at the age of 82 following a massive heart attack it was announced by his family. Clark, 82, had entered St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica last night for an outpatient procedure. Attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. He is survived by his wife Kari and his three children, RAC, Duane and Cindy.
  7. My wife is scheduled for a heart calf tomorrow. The doctor is going to do the procedure around 4 PM. I took her to the Emergency Room around 4:30 pm yesterday evening. I stayed there last night and just got home a few minutes ago. My daughter will stay tonight and I will return tomorrow to stay while the doctor does the procedure. Please remember my wife in your prayers. We are hoping and praying that there is nothing real serious wrong. She is doing fine for now, but was so very sick yesterday. I could tell that she is really concerned and frightened, and so am I. Thank you all so much. James
  8. I just purchased a 2004 Midnight RSV and I noticed there are light scratches or swirls in the paint. What do you use to restore the paint job back to normal? What procedure and what products?
  9. I am going to perform a Valve Check/Adjustment on my 05 RSV. I decided not to go the dealer route (long story). With the excellent posting on the procedure from V7Goose, I would rather learn to do it myself. Ponch has agreed to be on hand to supervise. With the amount of time needed to do this job, I will be tearing the bike down the day before. So, if anyone wants to come and see the check/adjustment procedure done Sat. Feb 19th on a 2nd Gen Venture, all are welcome. Here is the location: Perry & Mollie Kuhns 2713 Pebble Creek Dr. Pearland, TX 77581
  10. Is anyone interested in getting a steering head bearing wrench. These will work on 1st & 2nd Gen's. It allows you to set pre-load on bearings per service manual specs. PDF of procedure to set pre-load is attached below for 1st & 2nd gens. The MKI manual did not list this procedure, but it is identical to the MKII procedure. I sold out of the last order I had for these this summer and have had a few requests for some more. Trying to get a feel for how many to order. PM me or post to this thread if interested. Here is a link to previous posts on these. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45268 I sold about a 150 of them and everyone seemed satisfied with them. Yamaha version is around $80. If my price is the same as it was they will be $23 including US shipping. Canada will be $24. I would suggest any Canadians pay for priority shipping if they wanted them fast. I had some that took 3 weeks to get delivered to Canada. I sent one to Guam and it got there in 7 days. If you would like to pay at this time, I would appreciate it, have not been back to work for long, so it would help. I will order them in a few days, and ship as soon as I get them. paypal is gary@dinges.com If you don't have a paypal account, let me know and I will send mailing address. 11. A few months ago I totaled my 2007 RSV. MrsSquid and I are OK. Here are some photos of my new bike the evening I got her home.... Yes, I know that I tied it down wrong as I found the proper procedure after I got it home.... http://inlinethumb40.webshots.com/11815/2296511360056765227S425x425Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb25.webshots.com/45528/2826732790056765227S425x425Q85.jpg
  12. I'm search-challenged! So I've seen LOTS of references to a procedure for checking plug wires / coils for resistance (on RSVs)....but I have yet to "stumble upon" that holy grail! I've searched "spark", "resistance" and a bevy of other spark-related terms...but have not found THE procedure. From what I can tell, this may be a document created by V7Goose? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
  13. When I was reading Freebirds article on the work done on his eye it occurred to me that we have seen some amazing advances in medicine and the things they can do to help out eyesight is nothing short of amazing. BUT it is Really unnerving and can be painful depending on the procedure done. The You Tube video I am posting is the same as the one done on me, but they dont show the needles used to freeze the eye that are inserted into the corners of the eye at the start of the procedure. I was wondering why i stil have an ache in the muscle behind my eye over a month after the surgery, after watching this now I know.....lol! My doc insisted I do this with a local anesthetic and it was a curious/cool/eeeewww! feeling when I could watch the instruments from inside my eye.... This is a graphic video of a medical procedure and I am posting just so those that are curious can see what is now possible, but again I warn it is graphic. 14. OK...I got my shortened kickstand back from JerryW (excellent job by the way) and now I am ready to put it on the bike... I have done a search and actually was surprised to see nothing in the Venture Libraries about removing the side stand. What is the easiest procedure to do this...can I do it while someone HOLDS the bike up (since I don't have a bike lift)...and how hard is it to replace the spring back on? Any help (pics would be nice) would be greatly appreciated...especially if in a step by step procedure. Thanks. Wally
  15. I reordered some more steering head wrenches if anyone is interested. I had a price increase from my vendor, the cost is now $23.00. Shipping included. There is an ad in classifieds, or the info is here to order. I have include a PDF cut from the 1st Gen & RSV service manuals relating to the procedure to set torque. Pay attention to text about setting torque wrench at a 90 degree angle to wrench. Not doing so will affect torque reading. Also listed below are the threads relating to this tool. Gary http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=45046 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=44833 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=44719 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...=steering+head http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT5202.jpg The procedure for setting steering head torque is outlined in the service manuals beginning with the 1986 manual. This is under Periodic Inspection & Adjustment - Chassis - Steering Head Adjustment. Also, if you are the proud owner of the MKI (83-85) Ventures, you could use the procedure outlined in the 86-93 manual. If you need a copy of this procedure I can provide it for you. The tool will work on any year Venture. The same part number is shown in the part fiche from 1983 through the RSV's for the steering head bearing nut. The tool will also work on 1st gen VMaxs & FJR's 1996-1998 and 2005-2009 Yamaha Tour Deluxe The tool is laser cut from 1/4" thick, 304 stainless steel, Mill Finish. I can supply this tool at a cost of $23.00 including first class shipping to lower 48 US & Canada, first class shipping. If you would like to order one or more my paypal address is gary@dinges.com. I will see the paypal transaction in my email. I can also accept check or money orders. PM me for address. Please mark payment as a personal transaction. Paypal does not send your address to me when it is marked a gift. Please include shipping address & your screen name in Paypal transaction, comments field. Attached are pictures showing the finished tool. Socket extension and nut are not included. Gary
  16. I want to paint my helmet has my scoot colour .Whats the proper procedure in doing so Thanks:bighug:
  17. I have received a quote for producing a tool that will allow the tightening of the fork bearing nut with a 3/8" torque wrench. This procedure is outlined in the service manuals beginning with the 1986 manual. I have a one piece sample coming so I can try it to insure fitment. The tool will be laser cut from 1/4" thick, 304 stainless steel, mill finish. In order to cut the cost for the tool, I will receive the tool from the supplier just as they come off the laser cutter. There will be a slight amount of slag that I will clean up using my stationary belt sander. I need to know how much interest there would be in this tool. I can supply this tool at a cost of $23.00 including first class shipping to lower 48 US & Canada. I would not have to be paid in advance for this item. Payment would be made at time of order. Supplier has agreed to allow me 30 days to pay. If you would be interested in one of these, please post to this thread or PM me. Attached is a picture showing dimensioned tool, left side shows engagement with nut, right side is a scan of Yamaha tool. Gary
  18. No, not me! I thought I'd pass this along though my knowledge is not complete. I received a letter from business associate the other day saying he was going to have prostate surgery, I found it disturbing because one of my customers had this diagnosis and went into hyperdrive to find alternatives to the standard surgery/impotence and a bag. He came up with several options, one of which involved cryogenics and the other which he ultimately chose: focused heat -burn the suckers! Since the FDA had not approved the procedure yet (It's been used for ten years in Europe) he went to the Bahama's to get this done, he still has a prostate because the treatment was targeted to cancer celss, he is not on a bag, his potency is at 95% (with the help of cialis) and should the cancer return this procedure can be repeated again and again. On top of that the insurance paid 90% of the treatment cost. (Which of course may go out the window with universal healthcare) So for us guys who are faced with this, I would urge you to consider alternatives before agreeing to going under the knife
  19. Well I was trying to avoid doing this myself but as my bike is a ltttle custom now I just dont want to let anyone just touch it. I was gonna let one fellow do it but he since disappeared. I assume he is afraid of scratching it. Im a good wrench myself so I guess its up to me. Not that I cant do it but I have never done it. First off what tools will I need and also what shims should I get. Id rather buy a kit because I have quite a few RSVs and RSTDs around so Im sure this will be the first but not the last. What gaskets will I need. Most of all where do I get it. I do plan a little phone time with Goose to get the procedure down but Im looking for parts and special tool help. Scotty
  20. Looks like we are going to have to change out the clutch on my son-in-laws 1996 Royal Star, can any of you tell if it the procedure and parts will be the same as for the Venture? Thanks.
  21. Well as part of my winter project Im going to rejet my carb as per the teck article in the forum. Makes sensc to me but I looked for the main and pilot jets OEM and they had no Idea. Where can I get these. Also if anyone has done this procedure can you tell me how much of an improvement have you had. I dont want to waste time and money but I do want better response. It seems like its starving right now.
  22. Got this from my brother via email and thought this was worth sharing. We are both "approaching the age", he's two years ahead of me so he gets to go first. The intermediate bit is part of the forwarded message from his brother-in-law that sent the article. In all seriousness, this procedure could save your life, meanwhile enjoy.... RSTDdog For those who have had their 50th birthday present from the medical community, this will be familiar… and for those who are looking forward to turning 50 soon – enjoy. This essay is almost as funny as the story of an acquaintance of mine who went through all of the very, shall we say, “inconvenient” aspects of preparing for the procedure only to find, upon arrival at the hospital, that it was the wrong day! This is from newshound Dave Barry's colonoscopy journal: I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis . Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough, reassuring and patient manner. I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn't really hear anything he said, because my brain was shrieking, quote, 'HE'S GOING TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!' I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a prescription for a product called 'MoviPrep,' which comes in a box large enough to hold a microwave oven. I will discuss MoviPrep in detail later; for now suffice it to say that we must never allow it to fall into the hands of America 's enemies. I spent the next several days productively sitting around being nervous. Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my preparation. In accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any solid food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically water, only with less flavor. Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep. You mix two packets of powder together in a one-literplastic jug, then you fill it with lukewarm water. (For those unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32 gallons.) Then you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because MoviPrep tastes - and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon. The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a great sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose, watery bowel movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you jump off your roof, you may experience contact with the ground. MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don't want to be too graphic, here, but: Have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch? This is pretty much the MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times when you wish the commode had a seat belt. You spend several hours pretty much confined to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate everything. And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food that you have not even eaten yet. After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next morning my wife drove me to the clinic. I was very nervous. Not only was I worried about the procedure, but I had been experiencing occasional return bouts of MoviPrep spurtage. I was thinking, 'What if I spurt on Andy?' How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood and totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said. Then they led me to a room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little curtained space and took off my clothes and put on one of those hospital garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that, when you put it on, makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually naked. Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left hand. Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I was already lying down. Eddie also told me that some people put vodka in their MoviPrep. At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of this is, but then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire Hose Mode. You would have no choice but to burn your house. When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure room, where Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I did not see the 17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around there somewhere. I was seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me roll over on my left side, and the anesthesiologist began hooking something up to the needle in my hand. There was music playing in the room, and I realized that the song was 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA. I remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that could be playing during this particular procedure, 'Dancing Queen' had to be the least appropriate. 'You want me to turn it up?' said Andy, from somewhere behind me. 'Ha ha,' I said. And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading for more than a decade. If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because I am going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like. I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, ABBA was yelling 'Dancing Queen, feel the beat of the tambourine,' and the next moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood. Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I felt excellent. I felt even more excellent when Andy told me that It was all over, and that my colon had passed with flying colors. I have never been prouder of an internal organ. ABOUT THE WRITER Dave Barry is a Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist for the Miami Herald. On the subject of Colonoscopies... Colonoscopies are no joke, but these comments during the exam were quite humorous..... A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies: 1. 'Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going where no man has gone before! 2. 'Find Amelia Earhart yet?' 3. 'Can you hear me NOW?' 4. 'Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?' 5. 'You know, in Arkansas , we're now legally married.' 6. 'Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?' 7. 'You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out...' 8. 'Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!' 9. 'If your hand doesn't fit, you must quit! 10. 'Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity.' 11. 'You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?' And the best one of all. 12. 'Could you write a note for my wife saying that my head is not up there?'
  23. a friend just acquired an 1100 kawasaki. it is in desperate need of a carb sync. can anyone tell me the procedure, and WHICH carb is #1? thanks in advance. just jt:scratchchin:
  24. I picked up a rear rim to have cleaned and powdercoated. As I examine the hub area I see the dampers where the lugs fasten. As the powdercoat process heats up to 400 deg. F. I need to remove the dampers. Any tricks to this or is it a simple press out procedure. Also, is there a reinstall procedure or measurement? I would guess uneven installation would cause runout and wobbles. Also thinking that deteriorated rubber would cause the same problems. Just a thought on the decelleration wobble idea. JB
  25. Has anyone did the modification to the carb where the vacume lines are tied into one another on each side. cant remember the name of the procedure. wondered if it works. remember reading about it a few years back, 2nd gen ventures. Jim
