  1. Decorated the neighbor's tree for them.. Hope they like it..
  2. Any one know if the handlebar riser on a 2nd gen is a one piece or two piece item? I do not see any appearance of it being a stud threaded into the upper body, if it is it has to be countersunk I need to either turn down the stud on the riser or drill out the hole on the 1st gen triple trees I am using on the Hybrid project in order to get the 2nd gen bars on the 1st gen triple tree. Only about 0.030" difference, but it is a non-standard hole size in the 2nd gen triple tree, 0.550". There is enough shaft size that it could be turned down to fit and not get into the threads on shaft. A 9/16 (0.562) drill will work to open up triple tree if I put some shim stock I have around riser shaft. Gary
  3. ....for my '86, the headlight plug and the handlebar nut that holds it to the triple tree. I would gladly pay to get me hands on these
  4. The tree is on Vashon Island, which is between Tacoma and Seattle, Washington. Quite amazing! http://venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=71713&d=1348117744
  5. we had some storms over the past few days. some heavy wind and rain. there was no trees down where i live. but lots of rain. well today i went out and washed my black pontiac grandprix and waxed it till it looked great. i then cme home and parked it.of course under a over hanging tree. i was going to go out and get some fast food when i saw somethig on the car. yep it was 2 tree branches about 4 feet in leant on the roof and the hood of the car. also the rear quater panel on drivers side was scratched. i called nation wide and i be damn there was a ajuster in the area and he would stop by. seems like im not the only one. he looked over my car and said hey the rear quarter panel has som rust bubbles by the fuel door. and there are some on the roof? and said the insurance company wont cover them? hey there are deep scratches and i left the branches on the car. he said sorry but he,s sure all they will cover is the hood. im so pissed i been with this company for almost 10 years never filed a claim on any of my cars in 25 years. and i got a $500 deductable. damn what luck huh? think i will shop around for another company. this company said they drop a $100 for every year you dont file a claim i say bull poop.. i can get the whole car repainted for $1500. not sure id a 2005 pontiac with 65000 miles on it is worth the paint job but she runs like a top. ok im done with my rant now
  6. I have a small tree growing up through the deck attached to my house. This deck is only a little bit above the ground, so I can't get underneath it to get to it. The only way I see to get anywhere near it is to remove some of the deck boards and reach down. Anybody have any idea how I can get rid of it? Frank D.

  8. Before I got my VR, it had sat for a very long time and had gunk all over it. Last night I decided to put the windshield back on but first had to clean it. I took it in the house and put it in the bathtub (the wife was proud of me:whistling:) and thought it would be a easy job. After some gentle cleaning with mild soap, I still had a film on it. I am pretty sure it is tree sap. Is there an easy way of cleaning it that won't damage it. I've tried dish washing liquid. I know windex isn't recomended but I tried it on a small area but it didn't help either. I am able to scrape off with my finger nail so I know it should come off. Any ideas? The seat also is covered with what is probably sap, although, it actually looks like tar.
  9. Hi all, Just lowered my front end, 2005 Venture. All was going fine until trying to get the triple tree back on. It's not quite centered on the middle bolt so when it get's down to the 'neck' of the bolt the triple tree is hanging up. Have tried pushing rearward on the front tire, and forward with the front brake on. Doesn't seem to change. Can't think of any way to get any leverage between both fork tops and the bolt to get it to 'lean' in. Any suggestions? Looks like I'm about a half hour from being done if I can get past this..... Thanks John

    GROAN!

Two Mexicans are stuck in the desert after crossing into the United States , wandering aimlessly and starving. They are about to just lie down and wait for death, when all of a sudden Luis says......... "Hey Pepe, do you smell what I smell. Ees bacon, I theenk." "Is, Luis, eet sure smell like bacon. " With renewed hope they struggle up the next sand dune, & there, in the distance, is a tree loaded with bacon. There's raw bacon, there's fried bacon, back bacon, double smoked bacon ... Every imaginable kind of cured pork. "Pepe, Pepe, we ees saved! Ees a bacon tree!" "Luis, maybe ees a meerage? We ees in the desert don't forget." "Pepe, since when deed you ever hear of a meerage that smell like bacon...ees no meerage, ees a bacon tree!" And with that, Luis staggers towards the tree. He gets to within 5 metres, Pepe crawling close behind, when suddenly a machine gun opens up, and Luis drops like a wet sock. Mortally wounded, he warns Pepe with his dying breath.... "Pepe... Go back man, you was right, ees not a bacon tree!" "Luis, Luis mi amigo... what ees it? " "Pepe.. ees not a bacon tree. Ees.... Ees..... Ees.... Ees.... Ees... Ees.... Ees..... a ham bush!" :rotfl::rotfl: SO SORRY!!!!! I know there is something wrong with me for posting this. Just couldn't help it!
  11. Here are a couple of Gems we have down here in the Southern Tier in NY. Anyone who has been to Spragues Maple Tree Farm knows how good the food is. And I'm just letting everyone know their making maple syrup now. On weekends in March you can check out the process and the suger shack as well as have a great meal. Another gem down here is Cartwrights Maple Tree Inn another family owned maple syrup maker and they have a resturant thats only open from Febuary 14 thru April 15. There you can get all the buckwheat pancakes you can eat and try their maple syrup products as well. I attached the links to both places if you can check them out you won't be sorry you did. And Spragues is a favorite stop when the WNY Gang rides and well as our 3rd Angelica M&E in May. Thanks for checking them out http://spraguesmaplefarms.com/ http://www.cartwrightsmapletreeinn.com/
  12. Safety not Saftey. True story on MLive today; A 42-year-old Grand Blanc Township man may do well with a refresher course on gun safety. The man was hunting small game in Grand Blanc Township on Sunday when he tied his shotgun on a rope so he could carry it up a tree. Nothing could possibly go wrong with that plan, right? As he was making his way up the tree, the hunter dropped the gun and it went off. Repeatedly. The first shot his left leg, followed by another shot that hit his right leg. Ouch. He was able to crawl out to a nearby road where a relative came to his aid. He was taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition. He later told police he thought the shotgun's safety was on. Officers then informed him it's probably not the best idea to tie the rope around the trigger. On the bright side, the Department of Natural Resources came out and ruled it a hunting accident and that the man had not broken any laws. http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2012/02/offbeat_unsafe_gun_use.html
  13. Yes ..... that title its correct. Just heard on the radio news that a motorcyclist was hit by a tree on the freeway. They said it fell out of a truck . I'll post the story once it is in written form.
  14. But I finally got the tree up:dancefool: http://venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=62828&d=1324769293 MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
  15. One day a man decided to retire... He booked himself on a Caribbean cruise and proceeded to have the time of his life, that is, until the ship sank. He soon found himself on an island with no other people, no supplies, nothing, only bananas and coconuts. After about four months, he is lying on the beach one day when the most gorgeous woman he has ever seen rows up to the shore. In disbelief, he asks, "Where did you come from? How did you get here?" She replies, "I rowed over from the other side of the island where I landed when my cruise ship sank." "Amazing," he notes. "You were really lucky to have a row boat wash up with you." "Oh, this thing?" explains the woman. "I made the boat out of some raw material I found on the island. The oars were whittled from gum tree branches. I wove the bottom from palm tree branches, and the sides and stern came from a Eucalyptus tree." "But, where did you get the tools?" "Oh, that was no problem," replied the woman. "On the south side of the island, a very unusual stratum of alluvial rock is exposed. I found that if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into ductile iron I used that to make tools and used the tools to make the hardware." The guy is stunned. "Let's row over to my place," she says. So, after a short time of rowing, she soon docks the boat at a small wharf. As the man looks to shore, he nearly falls off the boat.. Before him is a long stone walk leading to a cabin and tree house. While the woman ties up the rowboat with an expertly woven hemp rope, the man can only stare ahead, dumb struck. As they walk into the house, she says casually, "It's not much, but I call it home. Sit down, please." "Would you like a drink?" "No! No thank you," the man blurts out, still dazed. "I can't take another drop of coconut juice." "It's not coconut juice," winks the woman. "I have a still. How would you like a Tropical Spritz?" Trying to hide his continued amazement, the man accepts, and they sit down on her couch to talk. After they exchange their individual survival stories, the woman announces, "I'm going to slip into something more comfortable. Would you like to take a shower and shave? There's a razor in the bathroom cabinet upstairs.." No longer questioning anything, the man goes upstairs into the bathroom. There, in the cabinet is a razor made from a piece of tortoise bone. Two shells honed to a hollow ground edge are fastened on to its end inside a swivel mechanism. "This woman is amazing," he muses. "What's next?" When he returns, she greets him wearing nothing but some small flowers on tiny vines, each strategically positioned, she smelled faintly of gardenias. She then beckons for him to sit down next to her. "Tell me," she begins suggestively, slithering closer to him, "We've both been out here for many months. You must have been lonely. When was the last time you played around? She stares into his eyes. He can't believe what he's hearing. "You mean..." he swallows excitedly as tears start to form in his eyes, "You built a Golf Course?"
  16. I need a triple tree for a 1989. I requested and purchased a triple tree recently. It turns out it's the wrong one. Triple tree facts: the triple tree I need turns out to have the same lower as the 1200, but the upper (on the backside will have the casting numbers 1NL) will facilitate the second gen need for a vibration dampener system. The important thing here is, lower half of triple tree fits both 1st and 2nd gen. Upper half of triple tree has casting number 1NL and has bigger holes to facilitate the vibration dampener system. So, bottom line is, I need one for the 2nd gen. Look for the "1NL" on the under side of the upper and that will be the right one. It's not very distinct, but the old style is cast with "26H".
  17. Help Please I Need A Question Answered!!!! I bought a complete triple tree from Squid to use on my 89 1300 Venture Royal after I send it off to Steerite and have it modified. In another post about the difference between 83 to 93 - 1200 vs 1300 triple trees it talks about the 2 splined handle bar mounting posts bolting on the 1300. Does that mean if I have the one with the bolt on mounting posts it is a 1300 triple tree? Thanks, Vic
  18. Does anyone out there have a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale triple tree complete with pinch bolts and the main shaft nut etc? With the information I received from a member I was put onto Steerite, which modifies your original triple tree. As noted above I would like to get a complete set to ship up and have modified. Then all I have to do is swap them out this winter. Thanks, Vic
  19. Sorry to post this one here, but I need an answer pretty quick. I just put RSTD bars on my RSV and after riding it I found that something just didn't feel right. After getting down and looking, the left side of the bar is hitting the air inlet on top of the fork, and not seating good in the riser. I did have the forks lowered in the triple tree. The right side is turned in a little so it's not touching. What would be the best way to fix the left so it won't touch the bar? I installed progressive springs, so I'm not running air in the forks.
  20. Any suggestions on removing and replacing the lower bearing on the lower tree? I have called a few cycle shops and all wanted at least 40 bucks to do it IF it comes off smoothly! More if not. One shop said they wanted double because I wanted the old bearing off first, then take it home to polish the lower tree and return it to them to install the new bearing. Thats 80 bucks min labor! Got to be a better (cheaper) way. Any suggestions? The races look relatively easy to come out.
  21. After months of trying to disassemble the front end, mostly delayed for health reasons, heat, wildfire smoke, etc, I finally dropped the fork off the bike today. Of course there is ALWAYS one bolt that strips and mine was the pinch bolt on the upper tree. Tried drilling it out but eventually ended up using a dremel with a cutting wheel to cut through the exposed bolt shaft. Glad I have a nice chrome tree to replace it with. (Thanks BoBo) Finally got to use Dingy's fork nut tool to loosen it up. Great tool Gary!! Need to go out today and pick up a 5-6" folding table to lay out parts prior to polishing. Shop area is a total mess right now and got parts/tools all over the place. Cant work like that. Hope to have the tubes disassembled sometime in the next week and get down to some serious parts polishing by next tuesday/wed. Going to fabricate a bracket to bolt to the fork legs to hold it in the bench vise to remove the tube/seals/bushings etc. That wiring bundle sure is a mess though. Got it all sitting on top of the airbox area of the tank. It looks like one of those Comcast commercials which shows the ATT aged wire bundle. Sure glad I marked each and every connection. Hey Eck...its all for you buddy!!!
  22. Frogmaster missing MD, Who is under the Willow Tree? I have to be the ON CALL ENGINEER for North America this weekend and have to stay near my AT&T Lab Equipment. Arrrrggghhhhh. I know MONTY and Dave Wells will be nearby! Anyways HAVE FUN and DRIVE SAFE, see you next MD-2012.
  23. A friend of mine posted this: "I'm looking for a frame and triple tree, preferably from a big goldwing. A friend is making a kick-ass trike and needs it for the front end. He will take a whole bike or just frame and tree." If anyone could help please post here or PM me. Thank you in advance.
  24. I can hardly believe this story . I have ridden out to the Shoe Tree twice over the past couple of years. It was such a fun and unique site to see. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2420572&id=17809521&l=bb6cce3228 ____________________________ Updated: Jan 05, 2011 12:34 PM MST ...Well known 'shoe tree' destroyed FALLON, NV (CBS) - Authorities are investigating who cut down the historic "shoe tree" in Nevada. The tree is located about 50 miles east of Fallon, NV, and is believed to be decades old. "On New Year's Eve, some patrons came in here and they said, ‘Did you notice the shoe tree got chopped down?' and everybody is in disbelief," said Greg Del Pepozzo, owner of a local store. "We went and looked out the window and it's not there anymore." Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter said it did not happen on private property and may not be a crime, but they are looking into whether it was vandalism. The Nevada Tourism Commission said the tree got its name after an argument between newlyweds, during which one tossed the others shoes in the tree. When they reconciled, the other reciprocated, and people have thrown shoes into the tree ever since. A memorial where the tree was located is planned for 2:30 p.m. Feb. 13.
