  1. This coming weekend Im leading nine bikes from Long Island up to Mt Washington; a 3 day trip. Day one plan was to get as far north as possible staying off the main arteries as much as possible. Day two, top of the mountain and surrounding roads. Day three buzz home, probably highways to New London CT for the ferry to Long Island. SO, any road tips up on day one and around the Mt Washington area on day two are appreciated. thx andrew
  2. Well, after 8 thousand and 40 miles we have landed home! We survived 3 duck drowners, one tornado, two coyotes one woodchuck and a little trip through a somewhat shady area or Cleveland. I broke my helmet in PEI and lost a clutch there as well. Bought new helmet and some dot 3 for the clutch and bled it through in the parking lot of Canadian Tire. Worked great after that. Tricky part was driving 20 some kms with no clutch! We have met some great people and had a few thrills on our anniversary trip. While it feels good to get back home it will feel strange to get up in the morning and not have to load up the bike and get back into the saddle for another day of running. We traveled through the following places (in no particular order) North Dakota Minnesota Iowa Illinois Wisconsin Pennsilvania (sp) Ohio Maine Massachusetts (sp) Vermont New Hampshire New York New Brunswick Nova Scotia Caper Breton Island Prince Edward Island Newfoundland did I miss something? Most likely! Thanks to the gang for putting on a great rally and it was nice to meet you all.
  3. Hi there. A buddy and I are leaving Long Island for a week ride. Original plan was to head south, Dragon, Skyline, Blue Ridge, etc but felt the south in August would be way too hot. So now we are thinking North. Been over most of upstate NY, Mt Greystone, MA, Mt Washington NH, Nova Scotia. I'm struggling for a good set of destinations and routes anywhere in Maine promarily nut also northern new Hampshire, vermont, eastern Canada. Kinda thinking about a loop up the east coast, up the US/ Canada border, coming back down NY to long island. I was also thinking of heading west to Michigan, central Canada, back thru ny. Anyway, any ideas would be appreciated Andrew

  6. Its been nearly 5 months workng on remodeling my basement apt. Sealed Cement Floor, New Paint, New Wood Floor and Carpet/Pad; New Shower doors, New Kitchen Island. Now I can get my VR ready for some summer fun. Progressive Springs, New Lights, amd misc gadgets to add.
  7. Doreen and I went to the Royal River Casino in Flandreau, SD on Saturday night. We saw a GREAT concert! On your feet or on your knees, ladies and gentlemen, Blue Oyster Cult! Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma from the origianal line up were still rocking out. They were joined by Rudy Sarzo on bass (formerly with Ozzy, Ronnie James Dio, Quiet Riot and White Snake), Richie Castellano, from Staten Island, NY, on guitar and keyboards, and Jules Radino, from Long Island, NY, on drums. It was a great time. they sounded as good as I remember the albums from back in the day. These guys were really on fire! :225: To top it all off, prior to the show, I put a $20.00 in a penny electronic slot machine and after the 20 free spins I won, I walked away with over $100 in profit! I did just what the Steve Miller Band suggested, take the money and run! The casino in Flandreau is booking some bigger name acts in an attemp to compete with a brand new casino in Larchwood, Ia. Both have had some good shows recently. We are looking forward to more. Hope everyone else had a good weekend as well! Dave
  8. One day a man decided to retire... He booked himself on a Caribbean cruise and proceeded to have the time of his life, that is, until the ship sank. He soon found himself on an island with no other people, no supplies, nothing, only bananas and coconuts. After about four months, he is lying on the beach one day when the most gorgeous woman he has ever seen rows up to the shore. In disbelief, he asks, "Where did you come from? How did you get here?" She replies, "I rowed over from the other side of the island where I landed when my cruise ship sank." "Amazing," he notes. "You were really lucky to have a row boat wash up with you." "Oh, this thing?" explains the woman. "I made the boat out of some raw material I found on the island. The oars were whittled from gum tree branches. I wove the bottom from palm tree branches, and the sides and stern came from a Eucalyptus tree." "But, where did you get the tools?" "Oh, that was no problem," replied the woman. "On the south side of the island, a very unusual stratum of alluvial rock is exposed. I found that if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into ductile iron I used that to make tools and used the tools to make the hardware." The guy is stunned. "Let's row over to my place," she says. So, after a short time of rowing, she soon docks the boat at a small wharf. As the man looks to shore, he nearly falls off the boat.. Before him is a long stone walk leading to a cabin and tree house. While the woman ties up the rowboat with an expertly woven hemp rope, the man can only stare ahead, dumb struck. As they walk into the house, she says casually, "It's not much, but I call it home. Sit down, please." "Would you like a drink?" "No! No thank you," the man blurts out, still dazed. "I can't take another drop of coconut juice." "It's not coconut juice," winks the woman. "I have a still. How would you like a Tropical Spritz?" Trying to hide his continued amazement, the man accepts, and they sit down on her couch to talk. After they exchange their individual survival stories, the woman announces, "I'm going to slip into something more comfortable. Would you like to take a shower and shave? There's a razor in the bathroom cabinet upstairs.." No longer questioning anything, the man goes upstairs into the bathroom. There, in the cabinet is a razor made from a piece of tortoise bone. Two shells honed to a hollow ground edge are fastened on to its end inside a swivel mechanism. "This woman is amazing," he muses. "What's next?" When he returns, she greets him wearing nothing but some small flowers on tiny vines, each strategically positioned, she smelled faintly of gardenias. She then beckons for him to sit down next to her. "Tell me," she begins suggestively, slithering closer to him, "We've both been out here for many months. You must have been lonely. When was the last time you played around? She stares into his eyes. He can't believe what he's hearing. "You mean..." he swallows excitedly as tears start to form in his eyes, "You built a Golf Course?"

  13. Will anyone here be attending Bikefest at South Padre Island in October? I am from the Brownsville/SPI area, and will be there for the weekend. If anyone from here is going to be there, let me know. Maybe we can drink a few beers together. I have a condo all weekend, so it looks like it is going to be fun. Also, I know all the good places to grab a bite to eat. Also, I think one of my buddies will be playing out there sometime during the weekend. There are some great places to eat on the island.

Gonna tour the Island in the morning and pick up the Ferry to Tobermory tomorrow. Should be home late tomorrow night. Having an AWESOME trip. Did the tunnel of trees on the north shore of the peninsula. WOW! The ride into the island was also excellent. Really looking forward to tomorrow ride as well. 16. Here's a pic of my bike on the dock at Tofino, BC in the middle of a 4500 km ride we took from Edmonton over to Prince Rupert, ferry down to Port Hardy and then a few days spent exploring some great roads on Vancouver Island. There are some fantastic twisties there!! Gold River, Tofino, Port Renfrew, and all!! We had some rain on the north part of the island but it was sunny and warm after Port Renfrew!!!
  17. Ok I've been patient enough. I want to see the group pic from sat at Tybee Island. I got a whole different altitude for that one. Margaret
  18. WOW! Bright Sunny 65 degrees on November 8th! Although Ive been riding Long Island for 20 years, I still manage to find new places to get lost. Melborne was his base and he toured Phillip's Island, Mornington Pensula, Yarra Valley, the Mystic Mountains and the Great Ocean Road. Very nice pictures. RandyA

  22. Just wanted to share our 3 day weekend trip (Aug 1 - 3) with ya'll. We left Vancouver around 7:45 AM headed for the Langdale ferry leaving Horseshoe Bay @ 9AM. Being that it was a long weekend, the linup for the ferrys was extremely long but around here, if you're on a scoot, you go past all the cars, campers, motorhomes, etc and get right down front. It's a "first on - first off" for bikers. Met another couple riding an '07 RSMV from Kamloops doing the same trip. The "trip" takes us up the "Sunshine Coast" via 2 ferry rides to Powell River, across the straight on another ferry to Comox, south down Vancouver island via the "old" coast highway to Victoria and from there back to Vancouver. We took a side trip to Saltspring Island to visit with Sailor and his wife. Those not familiar with this route can google it and take a look ... it's one of the best 2 or 3 (or more) days bike trips around here. Lots to see and do and the scenery is amazing. A word of warning tho... make hotel/motel reservations on a long weekend or you may just find yourself riding a lot further than expected (don't ask how I know this LOL). We hooked up with Sailor mid-afternoon Sunday and after a short rest and a drink or 3 at his place, Nina & I headed down to the lake for a refreshing swim (the lake is just down the hill from Sailor's house). Then it was back to his place for more R&R, drinks, story telling, jokes and so on ending with a feast of BBQ ribs, salads, and an amazing chocolate raspberry "OMG this is so good" dessert. (it was raspberry, wasn't it? ... I think I was slightly "overserved" by that time LOL) What a host/hostess he and his wife Janet are! I just can't say enuf good words about them ... truly awesome "real" people! Monday we headed off the island to ride out to Sooke and hook up with my nephew who was out fishing with his daughter and her boyfriend. While at it they set a crab trap and got a good mealful. Plans are to go over there for the long weekend in Sept for more fishing and partying. My nephew is sure in his glory with his new, all aluminum fishing boat. A few pics for ya'll to check out here.... enjoy! http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/Aug2009LongWeekend/?albumview=slideshow Hope you can access these...
  23. Today I took a 415 mile solo run from my home (Long Island) to Mt Greylock (highest peak in Ma). This was my first "off Island" run since picking up the Venture a few months ago. I dont get too many of these opps so im all sorts of jacked up to report on it! Amazing, just amazing. I took plenty of long runs over many years on my 1100 Vstar but this run was so much better. The Venture made the difference. It was smooth, quiet and powerful every time I tested it. Power, Power and more Power. I wouldn't have imagined tossing a monster like this around on the twisties but it works!; not like my lighter Vstar but it still gives a thrill. Never felt like I was going to lose it and the brakes stop it and my carcass with ease. I could ride in that stock seat forever (first time I didnt need to drop half a grand on a Corbin) and with the Kuryakyn pegs out there I had many riding positions to test. Again, just amazing. I only wish I had more opportunity to get it on the open roads. (after 20 years of riding on Long Island, Ive seen it all!) My aftermarket electronics worked flawlessly. Satellite radio kept me entertained. I downloaded a Garmin map file from Sundaymornignrides.com, made a few mods and it worked perfectly! (Garmin 2720, they are cheap and work great!) Here's a couple of pics from the run. More on the link below. Ive gotten plently of tips here and thank everyone. Great site. Im on here multiple times per day. Long Island members need to get together some day! http://lh6.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SnT6Z1LmziI/AAAAAAAAC1c/tH30-y1NhLU/s800/P8010625.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SnT6M0g1mcI/AAAAAAAACzw/B1OWgDcTeeE/s800/P8010598.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SnT6ue99zyI/AAAAAAAAC4k/3Jr2erseitM/s800/P8010672.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_9EMyKcng_yA/SnT6O8SH4GI/AAAAAAAAC0A/UDTaYil4_b0/s800/P8010602.JPG http://picasaweb.google.com/ablumny/LongIslandMtGreylockRun#
  24. We are planning to visit SC in a few weeks and want to visit Charleston and Savannah. Instead of staying in hotels we have found a reasonably priced house on Fripp Island which appears to be centrally located between the two cities. Does anyone know anything about Fripp Island? From the web it appears that the island is quite restrictive. It's about 80 miles from Charleston and 65 from Savannah. How long will it take to travel to those cities? I've got to pay for the reservation in the next couple of days if we decide to stay there. Thanks, Dennis
