  1. Our Saturday CHIRSTmas ride is on... OK.. a small cold front came through but I am ready .... Every freezing mile will be in honor of those who prefer to keep that white stuff on the ground instead of the freezer like we do..
  2. While getting ready to go for a ride today I noticed that one of the braces that support the trunk bracket was broken at the weld. Has anyone had this happen to them? I have pulled everything and have the trunk bracket pulled and ready to go to the Yamaha shop tomorrow as they are closed today. I have attached a picture. This is a 2007 RSV
  3. My wife said we had to have one. She saw it at Vogel last year and it's only taken me nearly a year to get it done. I had a friend that welded it up for me and I was ready to spray it with black Krylon that I had on hand and she said "Oh NO!, that needs to be chromed". So it is. Don't you just love a wife that appreciates safety chrome! Dennis
  4. Hi all, been a member for awhile now, and lot's of great info. I have an 86 Venture, and have a few questions as I'm gettin the old girl ready for another summer of touring. Tires- I'm looking at putting a set of Dunlop Elite 3'2 on, anyone else have these and how are they? I ride alot of 2-up, but like to scrape the pegs once in awhile too. Carbs- Time to rebuild, I notice the lh rear is wet, and the performance/mileage seems off. Is there anyone who offers a rebuild kit? I've read alot about changing the diaphrams, but most are old posts. Is there somewhere I can buy diaphram kits without breaking the bank? How do I get the map with the diff color provinces and states of where you've ridden? I've looked everywhere. (off topic I know, but I think it's cool) Thanks everyone, just read the post about the maintenance day and I'm gonna talk to the wife about makin another road trip, maybe we'll see some of you there.
  5. Got the bike loaded on the trailer and in a few days the wife and I will be headed to florida for 12 days of riding. ready for some warmer weather and riding.
  6. On road bike and ready for use as a fishing boat ! http://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/12/ural-yamal/

  8. Getting ready to paint my 83 Venture. I have all of the fairings and side covers ready to shoot, and finishing work on the luggage and fenders and then I'll be ready for paint when I get a warm enough day to do it. I want a color that will be a bit more modern and I've settled on either 2008 GM Atomic Orange, or House of Kolor Sunset Pearl. What do you guys think?
  9. My ridding buddy just made the deal. He is trading his 08 HD Ultra in on a new Venture. The dealer had to get it from another dealer and it should be ready for pick Saturday. I sure hope he is happy with it. Earl
  10. Attached are 3 of our 5 units,, all have box scrapers on the back. Come-on SNOW,, we is ready!!!:happy65: Oh YA,,,, did you hear me say I like SNOW!!!! No????????? Well I LIKE SNOW!!!
  11. OK, first round trip SEA to LAX went great on the new bike. Love this bike !!! Comfortable !! except for the Seat. ( darn ) Guess I will be spending a few bucks on a " Day Long Saddle " in the near future. Plenty of power, and the brakes seem to be better then on the 89. Not sure why?? If anybody wants a new RSTD, there are a few 08's and 09's left in dealer stock, around the country. But you will have to do some searching !! I found 2 in Washington, and one in Oregon. ( 2 months ago ) ( Only one left in WA. now ) Been working on the 89 getting it ready to sell. Posted it today in VR Classified. Will wait a few days before advertiseing it locally if anybody here is interested. Its ready to travel, fly to SEA, bring money, will pick u up at airport, and have you on the road in a Jiffy !! ( as they say )
  12. Can't leave until Monday morning but the bike is cleaned, trailer cleaned, tire pressures checked, I am ready to get on the road. Just got in from a little ride just around the countryside here. Only about 75 miles or so but it sure felt good. Had a hard time moving the bike at first. Cobwebs and etc. had it tied to the garage floor.
  13. One of our members, sgn, bought my 99 today.Sad to see it go but I believe it went to a good home. Now if I can get rid of these two 1st gens and the trailer we will almost be ready to hit the road.

  15. Today was officially my last day of working as a nurse in a school for 22 years. I cannot say I can tell the difference yet. It is still not real to me. I know when it becomes August and I do not have to get ready to go back, I will suddenly say to my self, Hey this is going to be great! Except of course, I will never shop again. Hehehehehe! Yama Mama:smile5:
  16. The picture is of my new (used) trailer. Gettin' ready to ride!
  17. I was trying to maneuver the bike in the front yard to put on the trailer and I dropped it, nothing happened to the bike but I had to call for help. I finally got it loaded and ready for my week in Hollywood Florida.
  18. bought a cabin in northern michigan. going there on april 1st, and ready to ride the back roads and up to mackinaw! bought this garmin factory refurbished with 2 year warranty, case, and screen protector for 159.00. its model 1490lmt. installed a West Marine 12v accesory plug into #6 of skydocs fuse kit. works perfect! now i must think of a more permanent mounting solution. but, for the meantime, im going to use 550 cord as a lanyard....just in case.
  19. Its been nearly 5 months workng on remodeling my basement apt. Sealed Cement Floor, New Paint, New Wood Floor and Carpet/Pad; New Shower doors, New Kitchen Island. Now I can get my VR ready for some summer fun. Progressive Springs, New Lights, amd misc gadgets to add.
  20. Now I know what you guys are talking about when you say you "miss" second gear. I just finished doing the second gear repair on my 83 and wow, it's a real treat being able to get on the throttle hard in second without having to worry about it popping out even under mild acceleration. All in all the repair went well but I do admit I was a bit baffled when I had the engine ready to come out and just could not figure out which direction it needed to go to get out of the frame. After considerable trial and error, I found that the front of the engine has to come up and then forward to clear the output shaft all while giving it a twist to the right. Likewise, going back in, the procedure in reverse worked great. Once on the bench the cases split apart nicely and the problem was the worn thrust washers. While I had it opened up took advange of all the recommendations on this site and replaced all the o-rings and seals that had been breached and I had the gears undercut to prevent slippage under load. Naturally, I replaced the thrust washers, the washer that goes behind them and shift fork #1. While I was not sure that my shift fork was bent, I replaced it anyway and I noticed that the new one was a beefier design. The parts, including all the gaskets came to about $175.00. I also installed the clutch kit from Skydoc_17 while I had it open, another $70.00 Reassembly was cut and dry with the only tricky part being the application of the Yamabond sealant and getting the shifting forks to line up when mating the cases. Once the engine was back in the frame (remember, go in high) I completed the installation and fired it up. After assuring that there were no leaks and everything was up to operating temperature, I took it for a quick spin and the gears worked perfectly. Thanks to all on this site for their wealth of information, help and support. I've added some photos from the build. 1. New thrust washers installed 2. Shift fork #1 3. Ready for lower case 4. Ready for lower case 5. Worn out thrust washers
  21. I'm ready to blow a gasket with my dealers service. Twice I have Taken my bike to the dealer to get my twinkie leak fixed and still the same thing. Never notice it leaking when the bikes running or hot always after it has set awhile after being ridden. Any clues at to what is going on I'm about ready to tackle it my self and be dam the warranty just hate to have to buy the freakin parts myself. Sorry but I'm pi never mind any suggestions. http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63668&stc=1&d=1327596171http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63669&stc=1&d=1327596171http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63670&stc=1&d=1327596171http://http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=63671&stc=1&d=1327596171
  22. Good News After getting approval from the boss (Freebird) I called Jaybird ( the pin-striper) and he's got this year's MD on his schedule. He said he would come up and be ready to 'paint' on Friday and Saturday. He will again set up his canopy by the willow tree so bring your ideas and be ready to see some GREAT work done while you watch.
  23. This is not a post for auctions, but an inquiry to see how many are ready for the auctions to begin. I have shirts, hats, and pins. There will be combined auctions for all three and single item auctions.
  24. A friend sent me this. Wonder how long it will be before it's south of the border. http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/calgary/Noise+Snare+ready+muffle+Calgary+bikers/5702613/story.html
  25. Merry Christmas To All ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Are you ready for Christmas?” “Ready for Christmas,” she said with a sigh As she gave a last touch to the gifts piled high… Then wearily sat for a moment and read, Til soon, very soon, she was nodding her head. Then quietly spoke a voice in her dream, “Ready for Christmas, what do you mean?” She woke with a start and a cry of despair. “There’s so little time and I’ve still to prepare. Oh, Father! Forgive me, I see what You mean! To be ready means more than a house swept clean. Yes, more than the giving of gifts and a tree. It’s the heart swept clean that He wanted to see, A heart that is free from bitterness and sin.” So be ready for Christmas - and ready for Him.
