A rider from Rome Georgia ran off Ga 19 north of Dahlonega Saturday and was killed. Copied from local news. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Missing motorcyclist found dead The Dahlonega Nugget The body of a missing Floyd County motorcyclist was found by local deputies Monday morning, approximately two days after he disappeared from a winding mountain roadway. Woodrow Clemmons Jr., 61, was just north of Stonepile Gap on Highway 19 when he apparently lost control of his bike and left the roadway. “It was a very steep part of the road where it dropped off,” said Investigator Wesley Burnett of the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to the accident, the Rome resident had been riding with a fellow biker who was in the area but reportedly didn’t witness the accident. “They got separated from one another,” said Burnett. “[Clemmons] hadn’t returned on Saturday and on Sunday morning they had been calling different locations checking on him.” A bulletin was soon issued to regional law enforcement officers advising them to be on the lookout for Clemmons and his Harley Davidson Working with the phone company, LCSO investigators were able to locate the victim’s cell phone which put them within a mile the accident site. “We went ahead and got a ping on the phone and we were able to locate him,” said Burnett. Officials said that it appeared as though Clemmons died in the actual accident.

After we hit the deer last night (See other post), as we waited for the police and tow truck, several cars went by and some of them slowed to look at the deer and our car, but none stopped. A young guy on a crotch rocket pulled over and asked if we were OK or needed any help. Doesn't surprise me a bit that a motorcyclist was the only one to stop. Had a car stopped, I would have expected the driver to also be a motorcyclist. Makes me proud of us! Andy

News in today's Time Colonist paper. A woman pled guilty to impaired driving causing death. She went over the centerline and hit a motorcyclist head on just outside Victoria B.C. She was apparently high on booze and crack cocaine at the time. The motorcyclist had recently moved out here from Ontario and his family was still back there. Two rows of the public gallery in the courthouse were filled with bikers showing support for the family.

An Albertan motorcyclist was caught driving at 263 km/h on Highway 16 between Edson and Hinton, Alta., about 280 km west of Edmonton. When the case went to court, amazingly, the judge allowed the motorcyclist to keep his licence if he paid a $12,000 fine. "The speed was unusual to begin with," said RCMP Sgt. Ron Lyons, pointing out the maximum fine for speeding in the province is $25,000. "But I haven't seen fines that high, ever." I just read this story and found it interesting. An inflatable jacket to protect a motorcyclist in the event of an accident. Anybody here have one? http://www.wbaltv.com/news/14328936/detail.html

You know we're always talking about how horrible it is for cagers to drive inattentively and hit a motorcycle. Well, this w/e in Illinois there was a biker killed on I-57. From what I understand (tv news) there were several bikers riding on the interstate. The lead biker slowed due to an emergency vehicle on the side of the road. Apparently the bikers toward the rear were not paying attention and struck the bikers in front of them. One killed, two severly injured. It's not always the cagers, there are rules of the road to follow when riding with other bikes too. Prayers out to them and their families.

PRAIRIESBURG, Iowa -- The Linn County Sheriff's office is investigating a fatal crash in which a motorcyclist was struck by a mattress that flew out of the back of a pickup truck. Police said John Saddler, 73, of Cedar Rapids, was riding his motorcycle near Prairiesburg on Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a mattress that blew out of the bed of a pickup driven by Roger Ockensfels. Saddler, who was wearing a helmet, was knocked off his motorcycle and onto the shoulder of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It is just unbelievable how many pick-ups do not tie things in the bed down! I see it all the time. Bryan

A motorcyclist was killed here in Albany, Georgia yesterday. The woman that pulled out in front of him was charged with vehicular homeside and DUI. It happened about 1 mile from my house. His pastor was interviewed on TV and said although he didn't want to die yesterday, he was ready to go if called. The guy was active in his church and when the news spread more than 40 people showed up in the emergency room.

A motorcyclist died Wednesday from injuries he suffered in a collision with a van at 15th and Moffat streets. The name of the 49-year-old Springfield man was not immediately released, pending notification of relatives. The crash happened about noon Wednesday. Initial information was that a woman driving a Dodge minivan southbound on 15th Street turned left onto Moffat in front of the northbound motorcycle. The motorcyclist struck the back passenger side of the van. Police said it appeared from the damage to the van that the motorcyclist might have been speeding when the woman turned in front of him. Investigators also were looking into whether alcohol was a factor on the part of either driver. A small child was in the van. Neither the child nor the woman was seriously injured. Police blocked the intersection as they investigated much of Wednesday afternoon. The motorcycle, a black Honda GM400, was lying on its side about 20 to 30 feet north of the intersection. Clothing and blood from the motorcyclist were on the pavement nearby. Glass and a rear bumper from the minivan were on the east side of the intersection, as was the damaged van.

it can make for great riding. The views just seem more vibrant than normal. But be very aware, you can be at a dangerous disadvantage in traffic for cars pulling out in front of you. We had a crash about 1/4 mile from my house yesterday where a motorcyclist topped a hill and was coming down a long slope coming to an intersection in the late evening. The sun was very low and a car pulled across in front of him because with the sun directly in her eyes she was looking and did not see a car coming, so thought she was clear. It cost the 59 year old motorcyclist his life. What can also make this even more dangerous is having your headlight on, especially on bright. The headlight just washes out the silhouette of the bike and blends in with the sun. So, if you are riding in an area where you have the sun directly behind you, you had better pretend you are invisible, because to many you really are. RandyA
