  1. I was looking to get a new windshield for my 93 Venture and found them for $70 at Cycle RE Cycle in Indianapolis, IN. Has anybody purchased one from them or know anything about them? Thanks
  2. Has anyone purchased a Premeux Fairing or Hoppe fairing and if so, How did it effect the handling of the bike? Thanks
  3. Greetings! Just purchased a 1988 Venture. Just registered with your site also. I've been out of biking for over fifteen years until a good friend of mine and his wife purchased an '07 Venture and appeared to be having a great time and rekindled my interest. The '88 model I just purchased is in great shape but it's needing tires. Any advise on what's good or what to stay away from? Thanks!
  4. I just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed this forum and how much it has helped me to make the right choices for my 2008 RSVS. Based upon what I’ve read on this site and the technical library I have in the past month accomplished the following updates. Lift adaptor with legs (purchased from Carbon_One) Engine Guard support brackets (purchased from Carbon_One) Stebel Air Horn (purchased from Carbon_One bracket and harness) Upgraded the stock passenger floorboards Leather Lever grips Tachometer Driver back rest (purchased from Diamond R) Highway pegs with Long Horn adjustable mounts Luggage insert set (monogramed from TLC Products) Light Bar Passing lights and visors MP3 Venture from Spain (vs. a CD player) Trunk Rack Radiator Grill Chrome Choke Knob Front Fender Rails Saddle Bag Rails (lower) LED License Plate Frame Scorpio i900 Alarm system 3 Pocket Leather Harley dash mounted storage Chrome Rear Break Reservoir cover Chrome side covers (purchased from Diamond R) Tire Guard monitoring system Tuxedo Bib Chrome Tail Light cover Signal Dynamics BackOff XP Kuryakyn Battery Monitor Flash2Pass Joe Florida Accent LEDs TouraTech GPS locking mount with RAM Garmin 665 Cycle Pump and Tire Repair kit Sync Pro Motion Pro carb sync meter Progressive air shock pump Trunk Lid Accessory insert Clymer Service Manual Schubreth C3 World Black helmet with SRC All of this self-installed from instructions found on this forum. I bought this bike with 400 miles on it last October 2011. It had been ridden 3 times once each year since new and stored inside a heated guest house by the owner. The owner was a family friend. When he passed away unexpectedly the family hoped I would want to buy it. They were correct. It is a wonderful bike and deserved these upgrades. I am preparing for a coast to coast ride next year with my father-in-law who dreams of this ride for his 70th birthday. I’ll be making sure he has a good trip. He has a new Yamaha Stratoliner 1900. We should have little trouble if we plan it out right. Thanks to everyone who contributes on this forum for all the great advice from your experience I have been able to use to great advantage. I appreciate it more than I can express.
  5. Just purchased a new bagger shield to replace the orginal. Any information on how to complete this project would be most helpful. Thank You Joe
  6. I recently purchased my wife a Sedici heated jacket liner, and heated gloves. She loves her gloves so much, she purchased me a pair of Sedici heated gloves today. All of these recent purchases have me wondering tonight. Should I be worried about the electrical system on my RSTD handling this extra load? BTW, I've never had heated gear before. But, after I hooked them up and tried them today, OMG! Is this what I've been missing out on all this time?!?! Nice and toasty.
  7. He is well, but working harder than ever since retiring. He has been doing a bit of fishing (when it's not too hot) and keeping busy trying to catch up on all those little things he didn't have time for while working. He also just purchased a new computer and is the proces of getting it set up and should be back on line soon. Like most of us, he has found out that retirement is a hard job.....
  8. Ok, I found the first problem: I was realizing that the right turn panel light was blinking faster than the right one when after check that the lamp on front was lighted but not blinking. It was on due to the position, but the second filament didn't not power on. I assumed that was the bulb (I didn't saw the filament broken but it could be the contact) so purchased a new one, but still the same. So, since I never followed this wiring on the VR is something special to take care looking for this problem? Anybody had this problem before?:sick::sick::sick::sick:
  9. I'm replacing the bolts in the brake disk and I'm not sure what grade they are but I purchased some SS bolts online and wondered if they would be alright. They are 18-8.
  10. Has anyone in the last couple of years purchased a set of Chrome Intake Air Vent for an MKII on ebay? If so could you tell me what you paid for them. I need some reasonable price comparions for an insurance claim.
  11. Has anyone in the last couple of years purchased a set of Chrome Roto Covers for an MKII on ebay? If so could you tell me what you paid for them. I need some reasonable price comparions for an insurance claim.

  13. Has anyone in the last couple of years purchased a set of Chrome Caliper Covers for an MKII on ebay? If so could you tell me what you paid for them. I need some reasonable price comparions for an insurance claim.
  14. Hi Folks, I just thought I would give you guys my opinion on these two Bluetooth sets since my wife and I have had the unique opportunity to experience them back to back within a two month span. Four years ago I purchased the Scala Rider Teamset units for my wife and I to use. This product performed fairly well over the last few years and finally became so worn out that I made the choice to upgrade. About 3 months ago I chose to purchase for us the Scala Rider Q2 Proset. The sound was certainly better than the Scala Teamset that we had been using. The voice activated intercom reacts a lot smoother, and using our iPhones with them has been pretty flawless. My wife does have the complaint that when she listens to music, the sound is less than inspiring. We have on a number of occasions had to wait and fiddle for an extended period of time for the units decide to sync with each other. But, once they do, they work fine. We both agree that the buttons on the units are quirky to deal with especially with gloves on. The volume range is very limited, but adequate. Overall, we had been decently happy with them, and certainly felt that they were better than the TeamSet units we had worn out. Well....that all changed one month ago when our oldest son, who didn't know we had purchased new microphone sets for ourselves, purchased us the Sena SMH10 Dual set for a gift for our anniversary. Instead of telling him we had already purchased ourselves a new Scala set, we kept our mouths shut and accepted the gift with big grins and big hugs. I then made the choice to install the Sena units on our helmets just see if there was any difference between the two products. To put it mildly, we were blown away by the difference! The Sena SMH10 is far and away a better sounding unit, as well as way easier to operate due to the jog dial that is more friendly to navigate with gloves. The unit produces a deeper and more rich sound than the Scala product does. Also, the volume levels are markedly better. Instead of pushing buttons to raise and lower the volume, you turn the jog dial and it acts like a radio dial. My wife loves the way here iTunes music sounds on these units, even while running 75 on the freeway. There is absolutely no waiting for them to sync, and turning the units on and off is a matter of quick taps on two buttons. We did a 400 mile ride last weekend and had the units on from 7:00AM until 7:00PM, and they never went dead. Well I'm not gonna blah blah blah anymore. I just wanted to inform anyone who may be thinking about buying new Bluetooth sets, that they cannot go wrong with the Sena SMH10. Now, I've gotta figure out what to do with a 2 month old Scala Q2 set.
  15. I have a 98 Royal Star that I purchased basically in pieces. I have put it all together myself and had to re jet the carbs because I could not find a replacement exhaust for the 4 into 4 factory pieces and they were not able to be reused because the previous owner had tried to do some "custom" welding which made them useless. Fast forward a year and I have not only purchased the Venture 4 into 2 exhaust but also all of the factory hangers and brackets and most recently, factory hard saddlebags. I had issues with the bike pissing gas out of the right bank of carbs overflow tube, so I tore them down as far as I could and cleaned everything. I then took it to a mechanic that synced them for me ( I feel as if he overcharged a bit at $90 to do it) and the bike has been running really well. After a long ride last weekend, I decided that the BUB's that came with the Venture exhaust was rather loud and I had some Harley Touring pipes laying around and I have seen a great deal of guys here using them, so my dumb ass slaps them on and I take a ride. On the way back I smell gas and look down to see gas POURING out of the drain tube all over the motor. I quickly get back to the house and wipe everything down and figure maybe the Harley pipes in some way were putting to much back pressure on the carbs and reinstall the BUB's. No such luck, now the bike is still pissing gas at an alarming rate and also smoking and has the smell of oil in the exhaust. At this point I have invested so much time, energy, and MONEY I just want to take it to someone and have it fixed. Or maybe just cut my loses and sell the damn thing! I really like the bike when it is running properly. I know that it doesn't have the power of the newer versions, but it seems to go down the road just fine. I do not want to spend some ungodly amount to get this fixed however, as I could have purchased a great running newer bike at this point, so I am reluctant to drop loads of cash on this deal. Yamaha dealer that is local says that they will start at $500 and go from there. The independent that did the sync will prob be the same. Any ideas? Maybe just buy a newer 32mm and do a swap? Am I missing something that it could be? I hate to say it, but my Road King was way more dependable. In the three years I owned it I never did anything but oil and tires for 33K (sold it with 56K) I was hoping that this bike would even be better, but it looks like that will never be the case. I only have 30k on the ODO right now on the Royal Star and the way its going I don't think it will make it to 50k!!
  16. Anyone ever purchased a trailer from this company I'm looking at their Escape Trailer. Thanks
  17. Time to make a believer out of me. Since trading the RSTD back in August, I thought I'd probably let my membership here expire since we purchased a Victory. Well, I did, for a couple weeks, and really missed it. So I'm back onboard showing off our new ride. Since mid August we've logged about 5K on it. I think had I originally purchased a RSV and not the RSTD, I probably wouldn't be posting this but instead would still own the Venture. We love this Vision and wanted to share some pics. This is a great site and as Rumboogy said a couple weeks back, it's a shame more MC groups can't be this good. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/CassvilleFallRideMissouri2011029.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/PopsArcadiaOklahomaTrip056.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/BikesBluesBBQandEurekaOct2011123.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/CassvilleFallRideMissouri2011507.jpg http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa76/looped1/NewPaintArcadiaandPopstrip149.jpg
  18. E Bay had a set of Venture tour pack brackets / support frames so I just purchased these. I have purchased an aftermarket, Harley style tour pack to do on it. Has anyone done this combination and what about height for the back cushion? My wife is about 5'5" and I would like to get the trunk painted to match and get it all installed by Christmas as a surprise. Any insight from experienced folks would be appreciated. Thanks.
  19. On Friday, 9/9/2011, around 1:30 pm I was behind a 1st Gen at the off ramp of Hwy 599 n Interurban Ave S. making a left turn so I pulled up along side. He said that his is an 85 and recently purchased it and also is a new member of Venture Rider. Just want to say hello.

    07 value

i know i can sit here and do this myself , but a double bone fracture below the rt knee makes it hard to sit here long...so...asking for some help.........what is a fair value for the insurance to offer me for a totaled ( not really that bad but parts exceed their (ins.) value) 07 venture not including accessories. 22,000 miles, purchased new by me........... and how would a buy back for me work....that's also being offered...would that mean the bike is under a salvaged title ?
  21. Investment Advice If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 today! If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have $33.00 today. If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have $0.00 today. But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for the recycling refund, you would have received $214.00. Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg. And as a bonus... A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that on average Americans drink 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means that the average American gets about 41 miles to the gallon!
  22. What would be the proper relay to wire the passing lamps? I'm assuming that something like this could be purchased from the local auto parts store.
  23. Has anyone purchased a different seat that was made for a taller rider? Mine is not comfortable on long rides . I would like to be higher and able to scoot back further. dave
  24. I recently purchased an 01 rsv and was wondering if there had been any recalls. Just want to make sure my bike is up todate. thanks

    1913 Harley

Interesting little video of a 1913 Harley that actually runs. For the Canucks, if you listen, he says it was originally purchased in Hamilton Ontario. http://www.fark.com/cgi/vidplayer.pl?IDLink=5734912
