  1. "Only got the chance to meet one of the fools and he was upset when he slipped coming out of the cab. Cops had to figure out the difference in the terms of "slipping" and "thrown". They went with my version. He slipped." Clumsy people should not turn to a life of crime. Slipping can be painful. Which is pretty much why I would consider an alarm on my insured bike. So I can get a chance to see them slip and fall. And at $45 I am looking for an alarm in a matter of moments.
  2. Normal "a : according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle" So, if we limit the comparison to ONLY other like minded groups we are normal. Even if you ride a 2nd Gen. If we compare to the entire planet, not so much. I can live with that. To the oil change situation. At most I will have to change my oil about 4 times a year. The price difference from automotive oil to motorcycle oil is $2 to $3 a quart. Comparing Valvoline or Lucas synthetic motorcycle oil to automotive. Not bad if compared to replacing clutch disks. Progressive forks springs are the way to go. C.L.A.S.S. is a simple fix, but totally a matter of preference. I am seriously considering eliminating it (works perfectly so far) in favor of having dash space for speakers.
  3. Long odds get beaten every day. And there is a lot to be said for human spirit and stubbornness. The best of luck, you are in our prayers.
  4. Cool beans. Looking forward to them.
  5. One more vote for whatever octane is ethanol free. Around here that is usually 91. It does cost as much as ethanol "enriched" 93, but it seems to run better. And I use nothing but ethanol free in light use items like weed eater, lawn mower, chain saw, etc. Stuff that sits more than it is running.
  6. Possible added safety AND more lights.
  7. So yesterday I am having a terrible time getting her to shift. Has been creeping in that direction for a bit. Did I notice the fluid level dropping in the mater cylinder over time? That would be a no. I'm 40 miles from home so I stop in a Stewarts Shop and get a bottle of brake fluid. Thank to the P.O. having the Yamaha tool kit intact, plus a few additions like a quality 3/8 drive ratchet and other odds and ends I am able to get the screws out of the master cylinder. It did require a bit of "setting" the fillips into one screw with tapping of the handle with said 3/8 drive Hammer. Er ratchet. So I get her home and this morning find this thread. After trying to follow all the information here I still had no luck and walked away. On my return I forgot I had left the cover off the master cylinder and the bleeder open to gravity bleed. I hit the lever and fluid comes out the bleeder and bubbles in the res. (insert favorite curse words here) I fill the res and start over again. Instant popping from the bleeder. The first timer things felt like they were going right. This is long winded enough already so, the clutch lever now is actually working. I assume I have a leaking slave cuz I never have seen a drip and I am obviously losing fluid over time. Thanks for the thread, saved me a bunch of money and aggravation. Oh, yeah, one more thing. For those who may not know. (and actually I remembered reading it here somewhere once the oil started draining) If you decide to remove the cover to get a better look at the slave, one of the allen bolts, low and middle one, will drain your clutch basket of oil. I threaded it back in with minimal loss.
  8. That is exactly the part I need. I want to get the right piece, but if push comes to shove I can probably find some decent rubber type molding and make one. And glue it in place. Hey, my buddy needs a right side louver, the one on the fairing next to my missing rubber. I actually lost that for him before I sold him the bike. If these darn first gens weren't so fast we would not be building up wind pressures that blow these parts out and away. 2nd Gens are so lucky they don't have to worry about such things,,,,,,,,
  9. Having only ridden on HD trikes and only short distances. (test riding customer and newly arrived trikes) I can say that with limited experience the answer is no or no way. Hated it. 2 wheels in front however, not so bad. Someone needs to come up with a "Can Am" kit for retro fitting.
  10. I jump on the bike to head into town for detergent for the sweeter half. On the way back I notice that the rubber trim between the instrument cluster and the right side speaker / coolant cover is gone, gone, gone, Anyone have an "extra" they can sell to me?
  11. I like it. Now, I am from NY, but live MUCH closer to Canada than NYC. Last week in NC I got stoped in a road block at the top of Green River Cove Road. It gets set up every Memorial Day to screen the white water kayakers. 15 minutes later I get stopped going back down. (quick trip to the store for more ice) When asked if I had my license, again, I had to respond, "I had it 15 minutes ago when I came up, and have managed to not lose it in that time." I did not say it in a mean spirited way, just casually. He waved me on.
  12. Bun bottom, slice of cheddar, layer of bacon. 1/3 pound of beef, slice of provolone,, another layer of bacon, onion, and lettuce, and the top bun. And a beer to wash it down.
  13. :thumbsup:Congratulations folks. The better half and I are 33 year survivors. It's going to be real nice to know that you have someone to grow with.
  14. I got tired of the radio/ cassette on my 86 VR and am now awaiting arrival of a Clarion CMS1. I also got the I Pod connection so I will be able to control my I Pod from the remote. It is a remote mount marine stereo with a control pod that I intend to mount on the bar where the CB and mute control is located. Yep, I'm removing the entire stock stereo and CB in favor of the new stereo. The FM reception on the stock stereo was terrible and it didn't sound very good. Heck, it's 27 year old tech so I'm not surprised. Now I just need to come up with a good way to mount a second set of speakers. Anybody added a second set of speakers to their first Gen?
  15. I would like 2 @ 5" and 2 @ 9'. U.S. shipping.
  16. I'm running the Rotella synthetic right now and have had no problems at all. Shifts well, no funny noises, no smoke, and no engine seizure. And it's priced right.
  17. The last 2 tires I bought off eBay were old. Real old. Weather check in less than a year. I pays a little more now, but get better tires.
  18. Just paid up my dues. Please deliver my new bike to the address on record. For the price of a hot dog and a beer at a ball game I get an entire year of insanity, information, entertainment, and insanity. (some things bear repeating) I'm in no way busting on the original poster. If I were to pay the value of what I have gotten from this site I would need another job to do so. When I first fired the old girl up (bike, not Mama) and got the well known green puddle I freaked. Almost took it to the shop right there. Posted here, got informed, issue resolved. I bet the Yamaha-ha-ha dealer would have charged me at least double the annual dues here. I seem to be emoticon happy all of a sudden.
  19. .357 or .38, like most real popular cartridges are REAL hard to buy anywhere.
  20. That dude makes me look like a contractor.
  21. Tell that to my cousin who wanted to trade his 2012 Ultra Classic toward a new Screaming Eagle Ultra Classic ($36,000) The deal they offered gave him about $16,000 for his bike. Less than 1 year old and about 12,000 miles.
  22. New York state written exam and learners permit, $65. First road test included. Small service fee to update license on passing road test. Registration cost is so low I can't remember what it is. $25 a year or so. Full coverage insurance for a replacement value of $3500 plus liability insurance on my 1980 GS 1100, $125 a year with a $250 deductible. Your folks situation almost makes living here seem bearable.
  23. I'm not sure if the word is couldn't or wouldn't, but the phrase ends in "live there". WTH? And I thought costs in NY were terrible. What, if any, explanation do they give? Is it any where near comparable to auto registration cost?
  24. I have used 2 Tom Toms and 1 Garmin for a year +. Now 1 unit or th other is in my bag in case of emergency. They are all, each and every one, OK. Nothig more. From a strict navigation point of view. 2 trips I ran both Tom Toms, my Nuvi, and a borrowed Magellan(?) CRS . Any given destination could return 3 or 4 variations in routing. Some of which can SERIOUSLY stink. Urban areas especially were erratic. They would get you there, or at least close, but routing was iffy. No one brand was better or worse, just all were different. No biggy if you don't mind getting ff one exit early and driving 9 miles through stop lights instead of staying on Rt 1 and getting off a mile from the stop. (Dover De.) Or taking me down Big Hungry Ceek Rd in NC to a road that never actually existed. Ever. It was at one time a (tough) horse path, never anything but. This was with freshly updated software and (or) maps. They are only as good as their programming and updates. I don't carry any one of them on the bike. I do have maps. And it's easy to print step by step directions from the net. Just actually match the map to the directions to double check. Kinda getting to like old school for some reason.
  25. HF is only a block off Rt 81 on Arsenal St. Get off 81 and head West on Arsenal St. It will be on the right just before WalMart.
