WOT in 3rd on a 1st Gen. That will twist even Texas speed limits. And dust a Harley it seems. He must have mistook which gear he was in. VR riders are a law abiding and respectable bunch,,,,,,

Ron, welcome to the insanity that is VertureRiders. Congrats on the steal. Use your trial membership. You will find that the $12 membership will be a value that can't be beat. Equal parts dysfunction, knowledge, humor, and compassion. Friends you haven't met yet and things you never thought you would see. Can't wait to meet some of these birds for the first time in a few weeks. What a time to have removed the icon that says, "This post is useless without pics."

Can it be this tricky??
JohnT replied to ReinyRooster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Folks, just trade them for 1st Gens. Then it's a walk in the park. -
Don't own a Harley, probably won't. Love the sound. They look OK to great. However, my cousin, his wife and their friends all ride HD. Total of 6 brand new bikes in the last 2 years. Every single one, shifters or some other part falls of with amazing regularity. Every one is considering carrying a spare R/R with them. On nearly every trip for the lat 2 years at least one of them has to go to a shop. Not wants to, has to. Now being fair, Matt rode a 2000 Ultra Classic to 160,000 miles with no serious issues. But did have a host of minor ones. As for bashing, I have to. They are over priced, over hyped, and most spend more time in garages and on trailers than under their owner. But my God, they sound like a million dollars.

Stator or RR working or not?
JohnT replied to Cowboy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How is the output of the Buckeye part when it comes to powering a "few" extra lights and stereos, and amplifiers, and coffee makers, and satellite TV and stuff? -
Here is what I have ended up with so far. The plates that I replaced the original plastic pieces with were my first attempt and are not as nice fitting as I hoped they might be. Over the winter I am going to make new ones that will fit better. Or at least I hope the new ones will fit better.

I have 4 Polk DB401's in my fairing. Good sound for 4" coaxial. Hoping for good water resistance as the second set are mounted sort of flat. OK, before someone uses one of the icons picture to follow.

idle knob 83 1200
JohnT replied to BSGODFATHER1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
He was smart enough to ask. As opposed to someone else here who started twisting the synch screw with wild abandon,,,, then asked. While I'm on that subject I'm not sure if I thanked folks for their advice and offer of help. If not, thank you. Members here rock! -
I would ask, "Arw they freaking kidding?" But, they will sell some.

Just yesterday I was thinking fools behind me probably think I am either a rookie or hitting the bottle. And just yesterday the tactic came into play. On my way to town for a wifey errand. There is a new extended 35 MPH zone on the river road and it is annoying to all. But, I am obeying it and driving past the red light driver commendations this new limit is producing. Yesterday a cage (BMW, imagine that) was all over my @$$ When I moved from left track to lane center the idiot climbed almost into my tour pack. And I continued to move from left track to lane center and back till the end of the 35 zone. At precisely 35 MPH. I'm sure he would have taken advantage of the straightaway that used to be a passing zone if I had stayed center. I mean everyone knows it is not really passing if it is amotorcycle and you dont have to entirely leave your lane. This thread has me curious. I am going to look to see if we have a dumb@$$ icon.

Save it from the dog? I didn't think you liked the squirrels?

Um, If I were in the market (lack of :mo money:says I'm not) I would have to wait for the unveiling of "The Other Choice" in American motorcycles. Can't wait to see the 2014 Indian

The "gooder" the better. Or a good pellet rifle. Some of the newer ones rival a .22 in performance. But quieter. The gnarly tom cat is hard to beat though. If ya wanna deal with a freakin cat hanging around. Don't feed him much, if at all. This option can be entertaining. But the pellet rifle is fun. Well, at least that is what I hear.

Linked brakes or independant?
JohnT replied to Silverado6x6's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The art of braking on a motorcycle is the combination/option of front/rear or both. In a nut shell. Do you want your brain or a proportioning valve doing the deciding? The very minute I can afford to de link, I will. 33 years of riding without linked brakes demand it. I will stick with the stock calipers, go with stainless lines, and call it a day. Saving $$$ so I can do it this winter. (among other things, tinkering on this bike is getting,,,, habit forming ) -
advertisement. Might wanna dump the Harley stock now.

DO NOT LET ANY FLUID GET ON YOUR PLASTIC! I had a bear of a time getting mine to bleed. I pumped and opened the bleeder a bunch before even getting real air bubbles to pop. Then it was forever getting it to feel right, or near right. And then I did use a Velcro strap to hold the lever and left the cover loose while I went on the road for work. Clutch is nice now and oddly enough neutral is much easier to find.

Thoughts and Prayers
JohnT replied to Rick Haywood's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Your friend is in our prayers. -
Let me be the first to suggest,,,, Trade it for a 1st Gen. The only serious whining you hear will come from behind you. A rider on a 2nd Gen. I'm told this whining is easily outdistanced. Since I bought my VR (1st Gen) last year it has had 3 oil changes. Ist was dealer with Yamalube dino. The second was with Rotella full synthetic and the last was with Lucas full synthetic motorcycle oil. I notice a difference with all 3, mostly clutch feel and finding neutral.

Same goes for IMR 4227. Try to find it. In NNY try to find any .22 Good luck, and if found, 2 box (as in of 50) limit. I am waiting on delivery of an older Marlin 1894 (pre Remington!) in .44 Magnum. Assuming the idgit local gun shop owner decides to be open sometime soon. Just bought 3 boxes of non reloadable Blazer so I have something to shoot in it when I get it. I do have a butt load of .357 if anyone needs some at normal prices.

Any suggestions for a good match for my Birch Brown (Primary)? I have spots on my "tank" cover from my brake fluid incident.
-
I second that. Says the guy that is digging a 10' x 16' x 2' hole in his back yard. With a shovel, a lawn tractor, and a garden cart. And I have access to an older John Deer "bobcat". for $100 a day. Have to chose between renting that and VR accessories. Fuse block, grounding block, relays, and such are ordered. 2 spools of wire and a 3 way switch are bought. Electrical update is in the works.
