Funny, funny stuff. Humor without profanity or blatant sex and what not. A vanishing art. I was a kid when Red Skelton was on prime time. One of the channels we got carried the Red Skelton show. He could, and still can on DVD, make me laugh till tears without saying a word. Jackie Gleason was another favorite. And anything with Jerry Lewis or Dean Martin. Almost makes me wish for Alzheimer's.

I have not been a college fan till lately. Driving OTR I hear a lot of ESPN radio and have gotten interested. So far, all I know is this. Johnny Manzell is fun to watch. I refuse to call him Johny Football. That sounds cheesy. Notre Dame sucks and doesn't belong where they are? Um, they play well enough to win. They stand a decent chance against Alabama I think. And I hope they beat the egotistical sons-a-guns. College ball needs a true play off set up similar to college basketball or NFL football. Pick one. Either way is better than the popularity contest used now.

Here is a question for everyone...
JohnT replied to PuttPutt's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'll end up with the same thing in 2013. Have to drive to NC due to the excess cargo. 3 whitewater boats and gear for 3 paddlers won't trailer well behind the bike. Plus "stuff" for a week or so. But I am not going to NC again without my bike along. So it will go on the trailer. -
A Christmas Song
JohnT replied to dogman's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
This was the first time I have heard this. What a wonderful way to kick start my holiday season. With every passing year I drift further away from the glitz and commercialism and seem to gravitate to the more basic aspects of the holiday. My family, my friends, and my faith. Merry Christmas everyone. A very Merry Christmas to you all. -
Um, OK. I am no expert so I have a few questions. How on earth can increased RPM translate to increased mileage? "My first tank this year got me 39 MPG, better then last year" (And if my 1st gen drops to 39 mpg I will fix whatever has gone awry.) Are the second gens really that anemic? I hear (and participate in) all the razzing, but I have never ridden a 2nd gen. Or raced against one. Is 5th gear a bit tall on my 86? Yep, sure is. But that works really well at 75 on the highway. Or as someone pointed out, pulling from 30 or 35 back up to highway speed. And just as soon as I win the lottery I will cure that lack of power that I don't have by trying to shoe horn a V-Max 1700 cc mill into my 86.

That covers it.

I'm at a loss as to how the throttles are sticking open. THe cramp buster I use (can't remember brand) is a piece of plastic that will rotate up to get the right angle set and holds when resting my palm on it. A simple piece of plastic, that cost 9.95. But if I let go, the throttle returns. I use it on my Suzuki GS 1100. The 36 MM flat slides are a bear to hold open otherwise.

And the Ricks Motorsport Electric stator is OEM replacement, not high output. I have dealt with hem and d like their quality and pricing. I plan on getting the high output stator from Buckeye. What will I want to get for a regulator? Carb heaters?

Just watched a youtube video of crossing this.

1st gen winter projects

For me it's not even the snow or cold that gets the bike put away. It's the salt. My lit, (first part stolen form a previous post) HO stator and regulator. Install HID driving lights. Find a place for 1,000+ LEDs. (people are already starting to look at my lights funny) 4ga starter wires. Remove all plastic and clean it and lube stuff. Repair crack in saddle bag. Change all fluids and filters. Lube speedo when it's out for soldering. (HID headlight) Clean and re-seat connections. As for the second generation folks. Let me know what you do to yours when it is 26 years old. -
I have owned one new truck in my life. I'm glad that I got it out of my system while I could afford it. Eventually I find something I can afford to pay for and drive. The last vehicle, and my current driver, is a 1998 Ford Taurus that I got with 56,000 one owner miles. Had it for 3 (?) years now. When I got it I had to put all new calipers and rotors and pads on it and a new gas tank. And 4 new tires just because I like to have good rubber. All said and done, $3200 invested. (and only 56,000 miles at the time of purchase) I'll drive it till it is no longer viable transportation. Closing in on 90,000 now so it will only last another 150,000 or so. (salty NY roads) I put a trailer hitch on it and have great roof racks for the kayaks and long lumber. Kudos on the new truck dude. But if I get to meet you, I would rather you were on your bike. And now I am going to wonder just how big a price was paid for the Harley doo dads on the pick up. Thanks FF

Engine swap? WHAT!?!?!
JohnT replied to midnightsunrider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have been saying since I bought my VR that one of the first 10 things I will do if I hit a big lottery is to buy a brand new V Max just to have the power plant installed in my, or another, VR. Just because and no matter the cost. -
Jacking up a First Gen?
JohnT replied to yamagrl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
camos comment is spot on. To make it (Maybe) a bit easier to picture think of it as trying to push the center stand through the floor instead of trying to lift the bike. I pretty much lock my arm and stand on the center stand. Disclaimer: I am 5'11" and 215 so it may be easier for me. -
The funny thing is that there is no shortage of programs available for breaking copy protection in the Windows environment. Stable, reliable, and simple to use. I am in no way recommending copyright infringement.

Fierri has a place on Times Square that just got absolutely RIPPED by the food critics Because the menu did not have items such as fua gras. Personally I figure that; Fierri owns it + critics hate it = worth a try. D,D,+ D is one show I actually miss since not having extended cable.

Almost my thought exactly. Plus the upgrade is needed to have a center stand? I recently rode a friends 2010 Wing and came to a couple conclusions. The power delivery is incredible. It's kind of nice to have 21st century stereo. The ride and handling did not impress when compared to my 1986 VR. Bang for my buck? VR all the way. His is about what, 7 times the cost of my VR? Plus, buying a Wing and not having a proper wind screen? Please. Folks ***** about the VR outdated technology year after year. (and rightfully so) Is the Wing now following the same path? The new stuff here is no center stand, no tail trunk, no self cancelling signals, etc. Thanks for playing Honda, please try again.

OK, Ok. I just hate the Steelers, the Cowboys, and the Patriots. Hate em, hate em, hate em, Things I would love to see? Colts -Broncos in the play offs and Colts-Giants in the Super Bowl. With a Giant win in a nail biting shoot out. If the Colts (when) get weapons for Luck and a bit more defense, look out. Luck is going to be the most amazing player the NFL has ever seen. I think. His skill, his brain, and his attitude, are a fearsome combination. In theory his idetic (?) memory alone makes him something special. If he has ever seen anything it is as clear in his memory as the moment he saw it. Gonna make monkeys out of defenses eventually. GO G-MEN!!!!!!! Don't ever write us out It ain't the 4 th quarter of the season yet

Lenny and Sturgis, I need a "nail on the head" icon for both og you. If you dig enough, Samsung, LG, or Panasonic is the way to go. I bet if you really dig you will almost always come back to Panasonic. Which was formerly Matsu****a Electonics Corp.

No way I'm going to bust on ya. 2 of my buds now refer to broken bolts and such as having been "Johnnie'd" -
I can finally get E-free 91 octane in Carthage. This is actually closer to me than Watertown. The owner told a few of us that the price will come down if he sells enough. And the price has dropped 2 weeks in a row. And with NAPA charging over $9 a (small) bottle for K 100 :mo money:I now just buy E free fuel. I do still run E 10 in my car. 1, it's a 98 Ford Taurus and 2, the gas doesn't sit in it long enough to cause a problem. Yet.

Man, that rash makes me hurt just to see it. Keep it clean and don't let it get infected. Neosporin is your friend. And thank you for reminding me what it can look like. I may start wearing more gear. I am reminded of that funny sound of my skin sliding on pavement. And my sister (RN) telling me I belonged in an ER as she cleaned gravel and tar from the rash.
