The Odessey battery is an excellent battery, however some members will tell you the DEKA is just a tad better spec wise. My Jury is still out on this, I have an Odessey in the 1st gen and a DEKA in the 2nd gen. The Odessey claims it could last 10 years, all I know is after 2 1/2 years of not being touched, my Odessey still had almost 12v and just barely cranked my 1st gen. A couple of hrs on the battrery charger and it is like new again!!

OK I'm sure you are going to get varied opinionson you're question but here's the facts in a nutshell. The main reason to use a relay is to protect the switch that controls the lights. Relays aren't needed for low power lights such as LED's but are a good idea for heavier current drain. Any switch contact is not a perfect zero ohm connection but has a small amount of resistance. The more the current, the more voltage drop occurs across the switch contacts resulting in heat being developed at the contact point. The more the heat, the more the damage to the contacts, the more the voltage drop across the contacts, the more the heat. It's like a snowball efect. Also, as more current goes thru the contacts, the contacts begin to pit because it sort of acts like a mini welder on itself. So, to answer your question, although not necessarily needed. it may be a good idea. Also, it's generally a good idea to run the hot connection directly to the relay coil and switch the ground on and off to prevent the remote chance of 12 volts being shorted to ground thru the switch or the wires...

Steering Head Detented
bongobobny replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yah! I had a race that I had to make 2 cuts into so that it came out in 2 pieces. Once you get a wedge out of the race, it can be driven out a lot easier as the circumference colapses on itself... -
Well, there's always Fleabay, or depending on where the dent is you can always hide it with a tank bra. I dropped my tank on the driveway and left a dent on the rear side. I hid the dent with one of those rear bras and now no one can see it...

Patriot Guard Riders are going to be in a big demand now
bongobobny replied to polecat54's topic in Watering Hole
Now, as a Vietnam veteran, they DO make my blod boil, and as a "born again Christian" I do know what the Bible has to say on a LOT of topics! I can "understand" where their perverted outlook comes from but I certainly do NOT agree from them! I would confront them, but I would confront them with GOD's word. I am PGR but until I retire, I don't have the time off to participate with missions though I want to. I'm thinking that if enough of us participate we will strongly outnumber them and confrontatkon will not be an issue... -
I dunno, se a couple of 1st gen's, a 2nd gen , a "Guzi, an early Honda 90's or similar, the orange Honda you sold to Muffinman, and a few other bikes that look familar but can't place at the moment. I didn't even know we have lapel pin!! I am willing to buy one...

OK my question is gonna be, is there any electrical interferience in the intercom, radio, CB noticed????? -
Wow! Old thread!! For those who care, I decided to save the $50 as I had no activity with them. Like Ventureriders sooooo much more!!!

If those are your original plug wires, it is probably a good idea to replace them anyway. They don't last forever...

I used a flat piece of aluminum stock, cut one end with a v shape, and rounded out the edges on the other end, then buffed them out and they look like chrome. Did it on both the 1st gen and the 2nd gen... -
running hot
bongobobny replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Maybe air in the line, or as you suggest, maybe the thermostat was kind of stuck. Is it running normal now? -
The answer is easy, you aren't riding a 1st gen any more, therefore you are riding a slower bike...

TCI & pickup coil ???????
bongobobny replied to StuD's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm thinking the primaries to the coils got switched at some point. Number one cylinder is the left rear, number 2 is the front. There was recently a thread that listed the primary coil wire colors in this forum... The front coil should have the front plug wire, and the rear coil should have the rear wire. Click this link, post 17 for the coil wire primary http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56625 It pertains to an earlier VR but the wiring colors should still be the same. -
I'm very confident you will enjoy it for a very long time!!

To Flanders Or Not To Flanders...
bongobobny replied to bongobobny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
OK lotsa really good input here and I do appreciate it!! I'm sure the extra 2 inches will satisfy my needs for the controls being a tad closer! I do find myself leaning just a little forward to reach the controls now. The extra 1/2 inch width won't make a hill of beans difference as far as the feel but just may make the difference as to whether I can put a tach on my bars! I'm starting to think that the project may be placed on temporary hold until the fall or next winter as I'm already replacing my stator and regulator for more power for Becky's heated vest she got for Christmas. I have also sprung for a new shield and bags as well as some other safety chrome, and I want to upgrade the rear brakes. Thsnks Larry (Carbon One) for the ground work!! I'm not poor but I'm not rich either, and the $600 price tag is putting az minor damper on things. You betcha Rick at Buckeye will get my business! I have the OEM replacement SS Clutch cable already and one SS line for the front brakes from a Fleabay purchase last year. I already have the Baron extender that I was originally going to install and still will as soon as I have our machine shop do the "Ruffy" mod to them for the fairing. I'll keep you all posted on what happens. Any more info is greatly appreciated!!!
