  1. Several members asked about something to get the wind off their knees. I have made up some Knee Wind Blocks. They are 38.00 a pair which includes shipping (40 USD if you live in Canada or Alaska). They mount with Velcro so they are removable for hot days. For cold days and nights these will really make a difference on your knees guys. I made mine up 4 years ago and was happy I did every time it got cool. Mine cut about 90% of the wind off my knees These are available in Black or smoke. I will make them in smoke if anyone really wants them like that but they will have some distortions because of the heating and bending
  2. My ball milled twinkies came in the mail today. Genyouwhine Yammy part. Last set the dealer had! They look sweet. Those will be on this weekend. My new 11" dark smoke windshield should be here by mid next week. Looking for a set of windshield ags.I just want to get a few more things and I will be set.
  3. It does happen, well it seems to anyways,,, and it's not the first time she went and did this,,,can't blame me really, I mean I was trying everything and I really wasn't looking forward to do any straining or hard work. Ya I know, I should have been more cautious out there in the farmers' field doing a slow turn, but crap happens and it happened again yesterday. And then the smoke started coming out of the wires,,, oh no, that means I might have to walk home,,, not a good thing either,,, but hey, all is well that ends well,,, right???? Now the story. Went for a nice ride yesterday to Wainfleet ONT to enjoy the times of yesteryear. Lots to see and do. Followed our fearless leader over hill and vale, around curves and corners, dodged pot holes and road kill and finally ended up at our destination, but alas there was limited parking for kickstand bikes, but if we did a u-turn in a field we could park on some gravel... good thought,,,,, until,,,,,,,,,,,,, well that's where it happened, doing a slow turn, unable to give much throttle, through pasture, the front wheel decided to head further left than it was designed and Scamper did a slow roll over. All seemed to be ok, except for Marca who decided not to stay put,(can't say as I blame her) and put her foot out and promptly fell over and hurt her shoulder, (it's ok now). She says she knows better, we have been down before and she stayed put with absolutely no damage at all,,, interesting to see that,,,, bike on it's side and Marca sitting there yet like it's going somewhere, but not this time. Got help from Wayne and Steve to set Scamper back up and view any damage. Not much really, a broken air wing, a mirror facing the wrong way, hiway peg not in the right spot and just a little smoke coming out of a wire,,, life was good, could have been serious. Turns out, the smoke was coming out of the running light wire, right where it attached to the fuse block,,,was a loose connection, but rode home with the 4 ways on until I could get it fixed,,,, ready to ride again,,,, 10 am Monday. Freebird will want to keep me as a member,,, I pay well.
  4. does any one know where to get the. exhaust box on the bottom of the 83 model. was going to farmerize but pipe broke in half. right before my eyes. that was where that smoke in the sky came from.lol cant afford fancy stuff just want to ride this parts bike.
  5. OK, so I rode up to Helen, GA the other day as I live about 30 min south for Oktoberfest. First time Ive ever had traffic to sit in up in the mountains which is pretty much all I ride. as I sit still at an idle, she starts to smoke. as I begin to move the smoke continues but as I ride out it goes away. Out of curiosity, I've repeated this process and sure enough, it happens just the same. I thought about rings maybe but as I'm reading through, I'm wondering about valve adjustment. I would think if it were rings, it may smoke all the time???? not sure. She's got 45,000 miles on her and if I were to guess, she's not been adjusted. Found a great write up on second gen valve adjustments but no luck finding on here about the 1st gen. sounds like a heck of a job but given my service manuals, you guys and my total disregard for digging into something I've never done before..... well I just don't see why we cant make this just work like a stinking charm! lol Anywho, any thoughts? any links to posts I've not found yet or anything else that could be helpful would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals! Jay
  6. OK I've never been bashfull about letting my 1st Gens see Redline. Question is I play with "Brown Sugar" now just sitting in the garage and if I bring her to redline I get gas smoke and smell. And my MPG has dropped a lot this year?? Everyone knows I'm a firm believer in the nectar of the Gods (Sea-Foam) Other than that and syncing them I don't mess with them if running good. Have never that I can remember (don't mean I haven't) messed with the air screws on her. Just this smoke and smell are unusual for her. She seems to run as strong as ever. Right Brown Angel??? Maybe off a tad. Should I be concerned?? I'm not sure if she is doing this under a load. Haven't noticed it. Its just I haven't recieved my 12 bucks worth yet this month or is that just once a year??:rotfl:
  7. brush fire smoke mixed with fog. 10 dead so far. http://us.cnn.com/2012/01/29/us/florida-fatal-crashes/index.html?hpt=hp_t3 US 441 also affected
  8. Four Worms in Church http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f3205%5fAIsIw0MAAI97Tr2TAA5oFGF5v3k&pid=2&fid=Inbox&inline=1 A Minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon. Four worms were placed into four separate jars. The first worm was put into a container of alcohol. The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke. The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup. The fourth worm was put into a container of good, clean soil. At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results: The first worm in alcohol ... Dead. http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f3205%5fAIsIw0MAAI97Tr2TAA5oFGF5v3k&pid=3&fid=Inbox&inline=1 The second worm in cigarette smoke ... Dead. http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f3205%5fAIsIw0MAAI97Tr2TAA5oFGF5v3k&pid=4&fid=Inbox&inline=1 The third worm in chocolate syrup ... Dead. http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f3205%5fAIsIw0MAAI97Tr2TAA5oFGF5v3k&pid=5&fid=Inbox&inline=1 The fourth worm in good, clean soil ... Alive . So the Minister asked the congregation, "What did you learn from this demonstration?" Maxine was sitting in the back and quickly raised her hand and said, http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f3205%5fAIsIw0MAAI97Tr2TAA5oFGF5v3k&pid=6&fid=Inbox&inline=1 "As long as you drink, smoke, and eat chocolate, you won't have worms!" That pretty much ended the service !! Today is International Disturbed People's Day. Please send an encouraging message to a disturbed friend ... Just as I have done. http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f3205%5fAIsIw0MAAI97Tr2TAA5oFGF5v3k&pid=7&fid=Inbox&inline=1
  9. ‎14,000 acres burning in/around Austin, zero percent contained. Lost 300 homes with 100 more in imminent damger. All fire personell within 200 miles to report. National guard has been activated. I can smell smoke in the air and see the glow in the sky from my front yard. Worried - hell yes!
  10. I've just encountered a possible problem with my 2005 Sea Doo RXP. It has only 59.6 hours on it. I bought new back in 05 and have never had a problem with it. I run it almost completely out of gas and engine mist it every year before storing. Being busy this year didn't get a chance to ride but figured I'd better start it. Added 1 can of sea foam to approx 1/2 gal of gas to clean fuel system and let run for 2 min. Then added 2 gal of fresh gas... wouldn't start, so i depressed throttle and thats when I heard a loud bang??? sounded like an inner tube exploding Smoke is coming out from under seat? Took plastic topper off and dip stick removed spark plugs cleaned with wire brush and carb cleaner dryed out using map gas tourch, coated threads with antioxidant. Before installing plugs placed my palm over holes and had compression. Reinstalled plugs and it started up (i shut down after 10 seconds) as i was afraid something was wrong with all the smoke coming from the engine compartment... Can see no oil or coolant in hull of ski and the dipstick has clear oil on it? Cant find the source of the smoke and don't want to run it like that... Any thoughts would be appreciated... Thanks in advance, Joe Thinking about tearing her apart and inspecting the Superchargers ceramic washers. May also find the source of smoke when I do? Will also take front oil pump off and check impeller and screens for debris... Until today, I never knew you should replace creamic swashers on the supercharger with metal ones... not having very good luck with engines...
  11. Hi All, I bought an 83 with twenty thousand miles on it. I am experienceing a problem with the engine makeing burp noises and emitting smoke around the tank filler area. The smoke is blueish, like it prolly is crankcase blowby or would be similar to the exhaust of a car that is burning large amounts of oil. This bike does NOT emit blue smoke from the tailpipes at all. The burp sound, and this emission of smoke, typically happens at low rpm, maybe no more than 2500, under mostly very light to no throttle. The first times I heard it, there was just a burp noise and the emission, but the last time it happened, it was substantially louder, and there was a hiss at the end, along with a larger amount of smoke. I was travelling about fifteen mph in second gear, and it just happened. My impression is that this must be a build up of crankcase pressure, that somehow gets forced out thru the cc vent, into the air cleaner, then perhaps the air cleaner assembly has a rubber seal that is disturbed enough to make the burp sound, and separates releasing the built up crankcase pressure, or at least this is what I think. What think ye all, please.

    Back home

We are back home from our 1500 mile trip to Florida. Lots of heat(it was 103 in Macon, Ga yesterday), and lots of smoke from those wildfires. Gonna enjoy my recliner and some AC for a bit. Ahhhhhhhh!

  18. My lungs not the bike.
  19. OK...so I've been onboard here for a couple of months....I've had my 83 vr for about 3 days more than that. It has about 85,000 KM on it My bike is OK...but a long way from fast. I just figured it was the way it is because it is SUPPOSED to be a couch on wheels. My last bike was a 83 Yamaha 900 Seca( inline 4, shaft drive) that was MUCH quicker and the Seca had a heavy sport touring faring on it...and bags too. From what I read here ...they should be pretty quick...(even though mine is not blue!) OR IS THIS JUST B.S. "BRAVADO"....or some sort of "p*ssing match" It idles smoothly, has no miss or sputters all the way thru the rpm range, don't see any smoke from the exhaust. I kick it down to 3rd to pass at 90 km (55mph or so) and it doesn't really pull...more like just steady acceleration.. I've only had it up to about 130 km...but there is more. I'd like to start giving it a complete going over....but I am on a VERY tight budget so I can't rebuild it or anything!!! I'd appreciate any suggestions on where to start
  20. Got my new Rider magazine the other day and in the product spotlight section, Slipstreamer now has 5 windscreens for the RSV. 3 are shorties in dark smoke 6, 8, and 10 inch. They have 2 clear in 13 and 17 inch heights. It says the prices range from $93 to $113. Went to their web site but they are not on the list yet. I know a bunch of people like the shorties and the dark smoke looks cool.
  21. Just wanted to say hello to everyone. Been awhile since I have been on. Hope everyone is doing well.Bought a new to me smoker and getting ready to smoke a brisket!!!! Hopefully seen some of you this summer! Dale
  22. My clear plastic fairing protectors were ruined by the dealer with liquid wax that stained little white dots. Is it possible to Tint the whole piece smoke or black to get some use out of them or should I just trash them?
  23. Hey Folks, Rex and I had a great time at Don's this year. Boy it was a grueling ride to get there and back but I'm glad we came. And I didn't mean to be ani-social with the other activities but I was kept pretty busy out in the back shop for Friday and Saturday reworking seats. And I hope I was able to take care of everyone that had replied to my original post. I had a list started before I got there but lost track in about a day. But I did manage to work in several of you who came up to me while I was working on seats. Sunday morning, I finished Smoke Eater's midnight seats and then went to breakfast with Don, Bob and Smoke Eater before heading back to Texas, where we made it back home around 7:30 last night. So for those who observed the Butt Butler in action, what I do to a seat is no longer a mystery or a secret. And it was a great honor to finally put faces to names as well as previous customers. So I'll probably see some of you again in August at the Hub. But this time I'm coming as Rick Butler and bringing my wife Linda. Thanks for the memories, Rick
  24. Ok since I had my shoulder injury I have had a lot of time on my hands wich is bad for a guy but I love to cook. I have not used my smoker in a while and was looking for something new to smoke and came upon this from Bobby Flay http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/smoked-bbq-brisket-recipe/index.html I have a 6 1/2 lb brisket in the fridge right now with the dry rub on it and tomorow I will smoke it. If it comes out good we will have to do a meet and eat. It seems a little spicy to some people but not to me I like it when it burns coming out.I could not for the life of me find ancho chilli powder so I just used chilli powder if I die from over sweating it was good... TOM:thumbsup2:
  25. Actually, that first pic is a Katana we bought when everything that is yellow was PINK and changed the color and re-sold. This is the first fitting of the fairing Shep had started. (Have modified it a little bit since and have some more adjusting to go) Will get more pics soon. I fab'ed the brackets from diamond plate aluminum, They are braced behind with 1/4" thick aluminum strap. Rode very well with just a little additional bounce up around 85 or so. Since then, have leaned it back a little more and squared it up a little better - solved the bounce problem. Using Stainless bolts and nuts everywhere. Went with an 8" dark smoke shield and deflectors. It is just about the perfect height - kind of wish would have gone with 9" but that might have been a little to much - Can see about 2-3 inches over it right now and topping a hill in the dark, you lose the road until you clear the crest so I think the 9" would have been to much. Plan on dropping it about another 1/4 to 1/2" to get it to wrap around the headlight a little better and filling the gap above the speedo with dark smoke acrylic. We have the stereo and speakers sitting in the office. We are just waiting to do the cleanup on the old speedo and tach holes and filling them and all the excess openings with fiberglass. Then it's waiting for a nice warm day to paint it. Trying to find a neat looking 2.25" Thermometer and clock on the cheap but no luck yet. I suspect we will fill the two small round holes with smoke plexi and stick on a clock and thermometer that we can find. More to come later - right now, building the house is taking precedence. Will update the RSTD Owners Unite thread when I have time.
