  1. Yup, try a larger shield... Or, give her a full face modular helmet!
  2. ***SIGH*** Yet another victom of the dreaded poor connection on the controller connector syndrome!! Yup, split your fairing, get some contact cleaner, disconnect the connector from your controller, spray the living crap out of it, blow it out with compressed air, apply dielectric grease to all the pins, and reseat it a couple of times. Fixed!! Or, battle with the dealer and have him do a poor job of fixing it and have it happen again in a few months...
  3. OK First thing, those phillips are a #3 phillips, and you probably tried taking them out with a #2. Get yourself a god #3, hit the screw up with a little heat followed by a blast of PB or any other penetrating oil, and hit the screwdriver with a big hammer a couple of times to seat the screwdriver into the head, and to break the screw loose. I sometimes clamp a pair of vice grips on the shaft of the screwdriver as well so I can push in along with twist the screwdriver. The real issue is loctite on the screw threads...
  4. Done deal!!
  5. ...and you are right, no way in heck can it be done in 2 weeks, waaaaaaay too much to see and do!!!
  6. Wow! Tuff choice! Both are scenic routes. The only main issue with the Canadian route is geting past Toronto, but only because of the traffic. It is a neat city to see though! You definately want to see the Falls from the Canadian side. Let the WNY crew know when you are in the area, we are friendly natives!! Going thru NY has a lot of scenery to see and a lot of historical places to visit should you choose that route. Of course you could end up doing both as here is several places to cross in the east side of the state as well...
  7. Yah! Both the Wing and the RSV are nice bikes, with pros and cons for each. Congratulations on the new scoot!!
  8. You are ALWAYS welcome here Jonas!! Hope to spend at least a little time with you on your way thru this time!!
  9. Yes, there will be others!! As a matter of fact I will most likely be selling my '84 this summer but it has had a LOT of work done to it and a lot of new parts and it only has 18,000 original miles on it. I'll probably be asking 3,500 for it. Old bikes require a lot of attention and blood, sweat, and tears to keep in top shape, no matter what make or model. The Venture Royale was IMHO one of the finest touring bikes ever made and I am hesitant to sell it but I need the room, and I have a second one, an '85 that needs a complete frame up restoration, and after that one is done I plan on selling it as well, but that ain't gona happen for a few years yet! Where in Bucks county are you? I lived in Philly in the early 70's with my first wife...
  10. That second shot looks eerie with that greenish haze at ground level!! Nice shots!
  11. What do I think?? Does it take 2 to tango? Do Woodchucks chuck wood? Was Abe Lincoln honest?? Is wearing tap shoes to a meeting a bad idea?
  12. As long as the brand is compatible with aluminum, it doesn't matter. That is the important thing, it MUST BE compatible with aluminum...
  13. Ahhh!! Don may very well be right on that one!! Forgot about that recall...
  14. Tah! Nature of the beast and no 2 start cold the same way! There are a couple of possible sources, and a lot of it depends on how good of a rebuild was done on your carbs. They may be syncronised for equal vacuum but were they syncronized for mixture jets?? Some guys do what's known as a color tune to balance the mixture jets and others do it with a CO "sniffer" to give equal exhaust emmisions. Also there are smaller diaphragms in the choke system that may or may not been replaced with the rebuild. There is also a certain amount of tweeking done to the choke linkages so that each carb is choked equally. Hey, if it runs OK and you can live with the starting quirks, then ride on mister, ride on!!
  15. Lucky you!!!!! You saved a bunch of money and/or time!!!
  16. Yah!! Time for a second opinion!!!
  17. OK there has been several threads on this, but here's a way. Get yourself a short piece of 2X4 or 2X6 and place it behind the rear tire. Roll the bike backwards with the kickstand down (just in case) so that the back wheel is on the board. Then, face forward, bring the centerstand down so it is just hitting the ground. place your right heel on the centerstand while holding the handlebar with your LEFT hand, and with your right hand grab the passenger grab rail. Proceed to jerk the bike both up and back with your left hand. Do not fight the bike with your right hand as it will automatically want to move somewhat away from you. Just keep the handlebars straight with your left hand. The bike should pop right up on the centerstand!! It may take a couple of trys to get it. Keep the kickstand down, just in case, until the bike is resting on the centerstand Yuo may want to oil the centerstand up thoroughly before you try this so that it is working smoothly. I'm only 5'9" and 63 years old and can still do it with ease...
  18. If you decide on new, Clearview is an excellent source! Besides new. they sell slight blems, and are on the list of venturerider preferred vendors...
  19. We are canning our idea to do Asheville this year as Motorcycle Tom spent waaaaaay to much remodeling his bathroom so they can't afford a long distance run this year. Therefore, especially seein g the date is after Aug 15th when I get an extera 8 weeks vacation, we are planning on attending! Soooo, Lewis, plan on us annoying everyone with our presence for at least part of, if not all of the event! We need lodging information as we are not the camping type. (I am but Becky isn't) Looking forward to seeing ya all there!!!!!
  20. Yup! And what Condos says! Check with a single source to make sure all the gauges are eading identical! I too made a pretty good deal on a set of 4 gauges this winter, and they work fine!!
  21. Happy St Patty's Day my Friend! Here's to ya Don...
  22. Trust us, we will never tire of questions, we live for them! OK for the gas, you can try to syphon or vacuum pump the remaining crud, or yes seafoam and fresh gas will work out. Just be prepared to put new plugs in afterwords as the seafoam will loosen a lot of crud and foul out the plugs. The headlight issue is probably just corrosion on the headlight connector, a common issue. You can use contact cleaner, or baking powder and water followed by a blast of air and let dry all afternoon. A dab of dielectric grease should be in order too. The connections on the reserve lighting unit should be serviced as well. The reserve lighting unit is a large black boxy device with wires sticking out that is mounted on the front fairing frame above the relays. They have been known to cause problems as well. Are you sure the bulb is good??? AS far as the fuse box goes, if you do the 12, as long as it physically fits, then you can always use the extra fuses for accessories like air horns, driving lights, GPS etc!
  23. What, you forgot the Venturerider motto?? We are an eating club with a riding disorder!!
  24. Great!! Does this mean you will be at the Kitchener M&E??
  25. What he calls scoops we call shovels...
