  1. I'm back and looking to buy a Royal Star Venture. I've owned an 83, 86, and 89 Venture Royale. I was not able to flat foot these bikes but never had an issue until I had to have major back surgery (thank you Ms. drunk driver ). I sold my 89 after I almost dropped it when my foot slipped at a red light and the back pain it caused was almost too much to handle. I'm ready now to get back on one but not unless I can flat foot it. Yesterday I tried out a Royal Star Venture, Newer Goldwing, Kawasaki, and a Harley (all touring bikes). The only one I could comfortable flatfoot was the Harley and of course it was the most expensive. I really have my heart set on a Royal Star Venture. Is there a safe, logical way to lower these bikes that won't ruin the handling? Is there an aftermarket comfortable seat that may help? Thanks for any advice.
  2. This is our day today. For you Southern folk, the thing NOT covered is a snow blower:cry: The covered one is an '07 Midnight Venture:mad: Hmm, maybe if I attach one to the other... We're lucky, some places to the east of us got over a foot of the stuff.
  3. If anyone is looking for a good source for flags try www.rudedogleather.com 3x5 foot flags for $9.95 w/free shipping. Very fast service.
  4. Any one ever hear of Monogo? At $1,000 and only 54lbs empty weight... seems pretty good. Only 7 cubic foot capacity but for light travelling.... http://monogo.com/Anglais/laRemorque/description.php
  5. went to my uncles house last week end and he has an insanely steep driveway with a 90 degree turn half way up that is recessed in the middle, don't know what inspired me to stop there but i did and with front and rear tire propped up on the hills i put my foot down and nothing was there. smash onto the crash bars with my aunt and uncle sitting on the front porch wondering who the idiot fallen into the bushes is
  6. NO, it does NOT feel good to be riding down the road relaxing with my legs stretched out on the front foot pegs, and to have a wasp fly up my left pant leg and crawl down my boot, only to start stinging the sh*t out of the heel of my foot! Pulled over ASAP! Hopping around on one foot while trying to rip off my boot while the damn wasp keeps stinging away! NOT FUNNY! I could just imagine what passer-byes were thinking. Now my foot is red, swollen and throbbing. Some grilled brats helped, now for the ice cream! Ice cream helps just about everything.
  7. Here is a site you can use to help determine if the ergos of you and your bike fit. Start by clicking on 'add bike'. You can customize the bike, check if you can flat foot it, etc... I did not check to see if it had an antique section for 1st gens... http://cycle-ergo.com/
  8. Do we have any storage shed builder's out here on this site kinda close in the area? I need a 6 or 7X12 shed with a 5 foot opening door on the 6 foot side and a floor inside. I am willing to buy the material and pay for labor for someone who might need extra money and give me a reasonable price. I am in a small trailer park and not a lot of room. Thanks Joe
  9. I have (access to) a 4x8 tilt bed trailer, It's a bolt together thing and doesn't weigh much. Though I'm currently not in the landscaping business anymore I'm considering dabbling and would need something to carry hand tools, trimmer, blower, maybe even a push mower, etc. With the truck that's no problem, but fuel being what it is and having a full time job I'm wondering if an eight foot long trailer plus tongue would be too long for a bike? I'd have to build a box on it at least 16 inch (preferably 24)high and 24 to 30 inch wide. Depending on how I organize things I could shorten the bed by about a foot. I'm guessing the tongue, measured from the axle, is about 7 feet, so a 4.5 ft wide trailer would still give me the 1.5:1 tongue vs. axle ratio. I know there's folks out there (take that any way you'd like) who pull a coffin for a trailer which theoretically means this should be doable, but I'd still like y'all s opinion.
  10. has any one used foot pegs as oppposed to floor boards ? cant stand floorboards, this the first bike I've ever had with floor boards, did I mention I dont like them:Venture:
  11. Taking my two year old son, Simon, for his daily ride around the neighborhood. He officially started his riding career at 19 months old. I had to make a peg for his left foot to rest on. His right foot rests on the air cleaner. By watching me, he has taught himself to: Pull out the choke, press the starter until the engine fires, twist the throttle, blow the horn (alot), turn on the turn signals, and then use the kill switch when our ride is over. Rusty
  12. Does any body know if a 1986 Venture Royale Passenger Foot Rests would fit a 1984 venture Royale without any modifications and are they just bolt on. Thanks in advance and does anybody have a set for sale in nice shape.
  13. You've been waiting for them with bated breath, so without further ado, here are the 2011 Darwin Awards: Eighth Place In Detroit, a 41-year-old man got stuck and drowned in two feet of water after squeezing head first through an 18-inch-wide sewer grate to retrieve his car keys. Seventh Place A 49-year-old San Francisco stockbroker, who "totally zoned when he ran", accidentally jogged off a 100-foot high cliff on his daily run. Sixth Place While at the beach, Daniel Jones, 21, dug an 8 foot hole for protection from the wind and had been sitting in a beach chair at the bottom, when it collapsed, burying him beneath 5 feet of sand. People on the beach used their hands and shovels trying to get him out but could not reach him. It took rescue workers using heavy equipment almost an hour to free him. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital. Fifth Place Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor. Fourth Place Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger. Third Place After stepping around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, and several customers also drew their guns and fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt. HONORABLE MENTION Paul Stiller, 47, and his wife Bonnie were bored just driving around at 2 A.M. so they lit a quarter stick of dynamite to toss out the window to see what would happen. Apparently they failed to notice that the window was closed. RUNNER UP Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from a local bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more excited, and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 AM. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge, they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope. Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman's cable lay nearby. They secured one end around Bingham's leg and then tied the other to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. Bingham's foot was never located. AND THE WINNER IS.... Zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt ( Paderborn , Germany ) fed his constipated elephant 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally got relief. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded. The sheer force of the elephant's unexpected defecation knocked Mr Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock as the elephant continued to evacuate 200 pounds of dung on top of him. It seems to be just one of those freak accidents that proves... '**** happens' IT ALWAYS SEEMS IMPORTANT TO THANK THESE PEOPLE FOR REMOVING THEMSELVES FROM THE GENE POOL.
  14. I've got a set of Markland foot rests that bolt onto the front crash bar. They just don't seem to allow me to stretch out as much as I would like. Is there any type of extension you can get or if I have to buy a different model, can anybody direct me to a REASONABLEY PRICED alternative? I don't want to spend $200 for foot rests! EDITED TO SHOW PICS OF FOOTRESTS I HAVE, AND WINDSHEILD CHROME I"M LOOKING FOR!
  15. Do you ever wonder why cagers precieve us as the enemy and vice versa? Saw some real loosers today on my way baack from Minonk, Il. One was within a foot of my motorcycle trailer bumper, on the left, going 74 mph, in the left lane with both lanes full and backed up. Guess he was trying to show me he was there and really really really wanted to pass...Stupid moron... all it would have taken was for me to take my foot off of the accelerator and he'd of crashed, burned and gotten run over like a deer... made me nervous as heck just waiting for someone in front of me to tap their brakes to start the event in motion... MORON! While we're on the subject of morons... guess who i saw riding a wheelie down Ohio Interstate 35? You guessed it ... a moron on a Green crotch rocket, looked to be about my age and was going about 55-60, without so much as even a helmet on his egg shaped head... Where do these idiots come from? Rant off... Time for a beer...

  17. Anybody know how much of a drop I need for water to drain properly on a cement porch. Right now I'm looking at 4" over a 12 foot span. Haven't poured yet, just framing it
  18. This could be a wrinkle in the plans. The boss has a FUBARed foot. (no it was not from having to kick me in the a$$...............again..............) There is a whole hardware store in that foot now, with 4 broken toes, that have long pins that go in the tip of the toe and run almost to the ankle to hold all of the pieces lined up, and a few screws for good measure that will be permanent. The pins should come out in about 8 weeks. She spent 4 hours in surgery getting all of the parts lined up. The prognosis is for a full recovery and back to kicking my tail by the end of summer. I'll have to see if she is going to be ambulatory enough to handle letting the dog out and taking care of herself with me gone for a weekend. It does not look good at the moment. I really wanted to make it to my first Freebird MD, but if mama needs me I will stay home.
  19. Yesterday was the day of absolute fear while I was riding home from getting my RSV inspected. While riding down an interstate in the left lane, I was passing a Jeep who at the last second as I was right next to his vehicle decided he wanted my lane. There was no indication or turn signal on the jeep that he was going to change lanes. That section of the highway has a concrete divider about 5 feet high and about a foot and a half from the edge of the left lane. I missed scraping the wall by less than a foot and the front bumper of the jeep was less than a foot from my saddle bags the last time I saw the situation for what it was. Have no idea how I got out of it, but I am very glad my clutch did not slip when I opened the throttle to get the hell OUT of that situation. I cannot imagine the mess I and my RSV would have made had I hit the brakes, the wall, or the jeep. Guess my life insurance would have been paying the claim shortly. In 40 years of riding, that is the closest I have ever come to dying on a motorcycle. Must have been pure instinct, experience, and training that kicked in, because I had no time to think. Time to put the loud pipes back on the RSV!!!!
  20. Does anyone have or know where I can find a longer cord for the rear headset? Mrs.Skid is almost six foot tall and her she is rough on the cords. I didn't have that problem with her on the first gen.
  21. I have a honest question, I have read in posts, most recently the darkside poll by captain Joe, that some who went back to the motorcycle tire did so because they pushed the limits of riding. Now I assume they mean in cornering, and curves. The question is how do you push it past the floorboards dragging the ground. I can easily drag my floor boards in sharps curves any most any speed. I have had to replace my right foot peg because of draging getting on and off I 75 at hwy 82 the cloverleaf ramp in Tifton. not being smart, I'm just asking, how can you ride harder than that. Gregg
  22. I believe Carbon 1 makes supports for front foot pegs for 2nd Gens. I looked in various threads and can't find his article. Can anyone help me with the post or tell me what state Carbon 1 resides in. Thanks.
  23. Prayers needed for my Cousin, if ya`ll could spare a few. He was riding dirt bikes with his sons and went off ( what he thought ) was a four foot drop that turned into a 30+ foot drop, he has had 4 surgeries so far, is in a drug induced comma, luckly he can move both arms and one leg, the other has bad nerve damage. This happened last Sat. and he is still in ICU in Las Vegas Med center. Thank you very much! Kreg
  24. Well, I did a little design work on my Dash and the passenger foot pegs and thought that I would share the photo with you. I put chrome plastic buttons on the dash along with chrome diamond strip. I also put chrome diamonds on top of the Radio control. Also changed out the chrome near the fuel cap and added "Free Spirit" covers to the Brake and Clutch reserviors. Forgive me for the diamonds but I will have to admit that they are not real!! ha ha Got the chrome knobs and diamonds at Petboys. DanC:cool10:
  25. NO NO NO!!! I have a nice pair of RIDING BOOTS. I haven't been able to get them on since my accidents and all the cutting they did on my leg & foot til this week. I finally got my bad foot into the boot but it is too tight to wear. Foot is still very tender. Hurts like he** to get it on but I really want to wear these things for some reason. How can I break in in to that foot? Wearing it is very painfull. If I soak it and wear it dry would it help? Don't know if I can stand it that long. When they put my foot back togather my instep? (top of my foot) came out higher than it was and was already higher than normal making it hard to find Slip-on boots I could wear. I really like this pair of Iron Age boots and would like to make them fit. Any ideas?? I've alredy looked for that spray-on stuff that used to be around but can't find it. I'm afraid of getting the thing on and pressure causing it to swell til I can't get it off!!
