  1. We've had so many nuts this year there have been days where it seems it was raining nuts, gonna have to use a shovel to clean up around the house, don't recall ever having so many especially with the drought we've been having, been a while since any rain. Have to watch out for falling nuts when out riding on windy days. Now the mountains have snow, US441 closed thru the smokies due to snow, early for snow, heck last year not many days all winter below freezing. Crazy weather. And now all this wind has blown over a pretty large oak tree thats been dead a while in the woods out back, guess I'll be out cleaning up the mess, when the nuts stop falling cause the little suckers hurt when they hit you in the head. Heres a link to some pic of snow on Mt. Leconte up in the Smokies. http://www.highonleconte.com/daily-posts.html
  2. Hey all, I've been a lurker on here for a long time now, don't post much, but this is important so I wanted to ask. About a month ago after being out for the day on the bike I noticed that the right rear helmet lock was falling off, hanging on by just a thread or two. I tightened this up and didn't think much of it again until last weekend. I was riding home from work on Saturday night and I have this habit of reaching back with my left hand and holding onto the passenger grab bar to stretch my back. Well the grab bar was moving all over the place in my hand. Got home and found I'd lost the bolt that held the grab rail to the fender, and the bolt under the trunk on the other end was really loose. Ordered the new bolt to replace that one, got it yesterday and went to work putting it together. While under there I checked the other bolts in the fender and found that 3 of the 4 bolts holding my trunk on were very loose. This led me to grab a bottle of lock tite out of the garage and put it on all of the bolts in question, including the two helmet locks. Is this typical? I have owned the RSV for about 1 1/2 years and love it, I will now be checking the bolts rather often, are there any other area's that I should look for things "falling off" that are common? Sorry to be so long winded, thanks for all your help in advance! What a great forum this is, I have learned so much here and it has enabled my to do a lot of my own maintenance with confidence. Great group of people here!
  3. We have a snow day today! It has been over 2 years since we had a snow day for almost all of our schools, public and private..... It started off wet and rainy yesterday with hail mixed in then it froze up last night real good. Lori got up @ 5:30 it was iced over outside.... she had a shower and came to wake me.... by then there was over an inch ..... now close to a foot deep... still falling and supposed to continue overnight tonight...... No riding now until the weekend at least now...... never thought I would use this smiley on my own thread.....:snow2::snow2: :crying: :crying:
  4. No, not what you think. Just curious if there is a "trick" to the passenger getting off the bike without looking like they are falling off the bike. How does your passenger dismount? Keep it clean. Wally
  5. OK, you never know unless you ask. I need a piece of chrome for the '91. I don't care if it's bent, rusted, etc. As long as it's in one piece. It's number #11 in the attached pick of accessories. When I bought the bike it was already missing, and my guess, from the condition of the fairing, it was lost during the big drop?? Anyway I have the left side and could sure use the right side to keep the bike from falling over.... So if anyone has seen or might have one laying around on an old upper right, and would like to part with it, shoot me a price. Thanks. http://www.cast-aways.com/QUICKY/access3.jpg
  6. I'm relatively new to the darkside (on this site) but with all of the concerns and opinions about ct's on a bike, I am curious as to how many ct failures have occurred compared to mt failures. I remember reading (here) about different tires falling apart, premature sidewall cracks etc. Just for conversation sake, how many ct failures have occurred by darksiders and how many mt failures have occurred with those that stay with motorcycle tires ??
  7. Has anyone noticed that the bars on the 2nd ger venture are not very strong? They seem they will not protect the front area of the bike.\, only bend in on a very low speed drop. (like falling over)
  8. I just got mine for $80.00 shipped brand new. the British pound is falling and the dollar is not falling so badly. I got a new one shipped for what most guys are asking for their used ones.
  9. There is some white stuff falling out of the sky. Does anyone know what it is. I think I saw something like this many, many, many years ago. I could have just been dreaming though. Whatever it is it is sticking all over the ground. Sure is pretty. Harry:sign woo hoo::sign woo hoo:
  10. Gasoline is now $3.39 gal for reg unleaded and falling.
  11. Can anyone around Boone or Blowing Rock tell me if the leaves are starting to change there? I am thinking about riding to Grandfather Mountain, but if the leaves are already turning brown and falling off like here in VA I might need to find somewhere else to go. Thanks hairman
  12. And they say bikers take chances..........but not like this..........this is suicidal.................... In Zimbabwe , Africa, you will find the magnificent Victoria Falls , at a height of 128m. The location is known as the 'Devil's Swimming Pool'. During the months of September and December, people can swim as close as possible to the edge of the falls without falling over. These falls are becoming well known amongst the 'radical tourist' industry, when more and more people search for the ultimate experience. Would you dare?
  13. I think everyone will get a kick out of this picture http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/rsx_fan2003/monkeyman.jpg I'm wondering how long he could ride like that before his arms felt like falling off.
  14. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you or you saw having to do with a motorcycle? Last year I damn near killed myself with 2 motorcycles, neither one of which was running. I was putting my Virago up on it's center stand when I got off on the right side. My left foot got hung up on the seat and I fell between the Virago and my Nomad. My lightning fast reflexes being what they are I reached out for smoething to support my self and immediately found the left handle bar of the Nomad. The Virago was falling towards the Nomad and the Nomad was falling towards the Virago and I was falling down in the middle of the heap. There I was, caught in the middle again, with my right arm hanging onto the Nomad and the Nomad hanging onto the Virago and me on my back underneath both. Not good! I did manage to crawl out from under and get help standing both bikes back up. no one has let me forget this. I started so let's here some more.
