    Bean're Motorcycle Nomad

Reading a new book " Bean're Motorcycle Nomad", what a story! To make it even better, he personally signed the book for me, in person no less, at the Wharf Rat Rally in Digby NS CANADA this year. It's a book well worth a read!
  2. I'm trying to figure out how to fix my ongoing turbulence issues. It really is only a problem on the interstate about about 70mph plus. I have put on the largest Clearview Shield they make (without the curved top), their lowers, Buddy's deflectors, and it still was pretty bad on the interstate. It is like getting hammered on the helmet going down the road. 15 minutes of this and I have a headache. At 60, it is all just fine, but sometimes we just would rather be traveling on the interstate so we can get somewhere faster. Going across South Dakota is one of those types of places. Anyway, I decided to try to fix this. I have seen on this forum people taking a seat belt cushion and sewing in magnets and sticking along side the tank. I does seem like the turbulence is a result of air coming around the tank. I was hoping for something more permanent and something that doesn't look as bad. So, I took an old pair of Nomad lowers that I had put on my wife's Nomad a few years ago and with cable ties and duct tape, put them on the Royal Star. Out for a ride and it seems quite a bit better. I went in as many directions on a very windy (diagonal winds, 22mph with gusts to 30mph) and I think this might work. So, the next thing is to build my own lowers that would like these, but don't hit the windshield or the lower fairing when the forks are turned. Here is a picture of my prototype: http://data.netconx.net/tom/prototypelowers.jpg I'm hoping that anyone who has done this type of thing before can chime in and let me know the do's and don'ts or any other suggestions as I attempt to do this. Thanks. I haven't posted a picture here before, so I'm not sure how this will turn out. If it is bad, let me know. Tom

  4. One of the WNY gang is trading in his 1100 V STAR and picking up a 1600 Kaw NOMAD this morning from Pioneer motorsports.....Wonder who that might be ?... Only saw one person at my rally sitting on it with love in his eyes......I'll have to go back and check out the pictures again............Serously, Buffalo Bodnar and I are heading down to the southern tier to pick up his new (to him) ride this am and then to shake it down ......will post pics later today...Congratulations Kenny
  5. Thinking of getting another bike. Am looking at several 2nd gens. I came across this one . 2008 YAMAHA VENTURE FULLY DRESSED Is that a resonable price for the bike or should I keep looking. Am also thinking of going to kawasaki nomad as I had one before and no problems with it durning the 4 yeaars that I owned it. All comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bill.
  6. decided i want to retire again so i'm doing a major down size to 2 or3 bikes. after i get rid of my zx14, i think the wing is going to hit the road. my ultimate goal is to end up with my v-star 1300, majesty scooter, and nomad. any one want a choice wing with all the goodies keep mine in mind. it's one decked out beauty and the price will be right. bill
  7. finally got pic's of my custom nomad project. hope this works
  8. well, after putting almost 7000 miles on my 08 1600 kaw. nomad, i have decided it is a keeper. i wanted one from the day they first came out. in the 90's. then last year when i arrived at the international at the hub there was a nomad sitting there that looked like new. it was the dark green that i fell in love with in the nineties. i was going to approach the guy with an offer and it was gone. well that sparked my urge to buy one. we'll long story short after shopping around i got an 08 1600. what a bike it is. i have done quite a bit to it to personalize it to my liking. anyone that wants the v-twin experience. i recomend a nomad . the only up front complaints were the lean engine conditions that the cobra 2000r fixed, and the ultra quiet exaust, which the cobra true duals took care of. anyone that wants a v-twin i 100% recommend the nomad as no.1 on the list. bill
  9. Was no big deal to pull the wheels off my old Nomad. is there anything I should be aware of? Any little write ups? thnx
  10. made the mistake of stopping in at my dealer saturday, and saw, and sat on the new victory crossroads. swore i would never buy another new bike, but this is probably the most beautiful bike i ever set eyes on. ultra comfortable ergomomics. i think it is the best looking factory bagger available. the one they had is jet black and really makes a statement. the only drawback is the lack of water cooling. if i did'nt like my nomad so much, i would consider buying one. it's not in the cards in the near future. maybe next year. i would like to get down to one all around bike and the victory could fill the bill.
  11. weather was awesome. i took off on my nomad at 6am and got home at 3:30 pm i think i rode almost 350 miles. every time i headed for home i would make a wrong turn and head in another direction. i think i broke 25,000 mile again this season. i'm tired of riding this year, so now that the cold weather is moving in i'm going to limit my winter rides to about 75 mi. max. keeping up with tires on five bikes is getting expensive. almost succumed to the dark side, but just can't seem to go against the tire engineers. so i guess i will be hunting for tires for my nomad. just turned over 8000 mi. this morning and the rear is gettin in the danger zone. what a great day.
  12. kind of been wanting the bagger look for awhile. so while i was on my morning ride on my nomad, i did a little daydreaming and design engineering. came home and took the backrest and rear seat off the nomad and presto instant awesome looking bagger. linda came out in the garage and said where am i going to ride. i said not on here. love the look. got to order some more chrome, today. this is my solo riding toy. no one back there to give orders. course with my luck some good looking gal will need a lift. :rotf:
  13. starting to deck out my nomad. kind of wanting to go with the custom mild bagger look. not to gaudy but kind of a conservitive look. it's so pretty , that i don't want to trash it up. going to do a chip foose on this one. i'm going to make a hobby out of it. old farts got to have a hobby. kind of need a part time job to support the hobby. lol
  14. have started the chroming on my nomad. so far i have added a cobra fi 2000r module, handle bar switch for the highway lights. venturerider.org logo on the windshield, and have some goodies on the way. the injection module really made this bike come alive. next i'm trying to redesign the exaust to get a good big twin sound with a pleasant sound level. then i am going to design and machine a billet aircleaner with minimum restriction and good looks. the feds really put the hurts on this bike with the pollution standards. it was a real pooch when i got it. it was so lean on the low end that it reguired 90 plus octane fuel with 9 to 1 compression. next tank will get 89 octane, and then maybe 87 octane., no pinging so far. st. jude here we come, first official road trip. sure like this bike alot. it is almost at the top of the list with my all time favorite v-max.
  15. pulled off the deal on my new nomad this morning. would have brought it home this morning but i had my truck and could'nt leave it at the dealer. going to ride the zx-14 down tomorrow and leave it for a frame recall check, and ride the new one home. sure is beautiful. the chroming is about to begin. anyone want to buy a 2007 majesty 400 scooter. i'm running out of room. it's got to go.
  16. i unloaded my wing this morning and took off for a ride around the block to put it in the garage. i kind of got carried away and ended at my kawasaki dealer. finally found a new nomad to sit on in the right color. it was absolutely beautiful, beige and red 2tone. fit me like a glove. came home and linda said you can go get it today if you want it. i want it so i am now negotiating. not a sure thing yet. no trade out right, 14k. they're gonna have to come off that. i'm going to do a little shopping on the net. i'm in no hurry. i will have to get rid of a couple of bikes if i buy it, i'm out of space. my zx-14 is in the neigbors garage. i think the 14, and the majesty scooter will be on the to go list.
  17. went looking for a new 1700 nomad this morning. stopped at a very big motorsport dealer and asked if they had one. the lady said no but we can get you one. i said are you going to get one in. she said probably not. can not believe this. i told her i would at least like to see, and sit on one. they must have had at least 100 new bikes on display, like 2 of each. sounds like the no stock venture deal all over again. guess i will have to wait for the new ones to hit ebay. i think i want one, but would like to see how big and heavy it feels. the waiting game is on.
  18. kind of getting the bug for a new 1700 nomad. always liked the nomads from day one. the new voyager is a little more than i want. anyone know anything about the new nomad? it has the same motor as the voyager.
  19. How is the 05+ RSTD windshield in terms of wind protection and buffeting? I had a Kaw Nomad that had good protection but buffeted terribly unless oversized lowers were installed.
  20. Hey all still debating on which bike and the nomad is a bigger bike engine wise and quite a bit cheaper and I know all the accessories you get with venture and I really like them both but can't decide, had indeed sat on both and the nomad is lower. anyway any thoughts appreciated can get the 07 venture @ 13,900.00 or the nomad @ 9,800.00 Thanks Brian D.
  21. Hello Folks. I have a 2001 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad posted for sale in the classifieds. It was my son's bike that I bought from him a couple of years ago when he went back to school. If anyone is interested, it is a very good ride. I got some nice pics of it posted too. Thanks
  22. Did I screw up or is it a good trade - not the money - but the difference in the 2 bikes - pros or cons? I traded my 07 RSV with 1.6K miles on it for Kawasaki 1600 Nomad with 6.6K miles on it, + about 50% of my selling price in cash? Any opinions?
  23. Hi everyone, I am new to this forum but have spent much time on the Delphi Kawasaki Nomad forum. I sold my 05' Nomad and recently loaded a 87' Venture Royale on my trailer . I really wanted a full dresser anyway! The bike belonged to a good friend of mine and has spent the last 5 years in a chicken coop gathering both dust and rust. With 79,000 miles on the odometer I added some fuel and a fresh battery, hit the start button and she fired up. Won't idle yet but is starting to smooth out.. The mufflers are gutted and covered with rust from the header pipes back. In fact most of the chrome is pitted from the chicken manure ammonia. Is there a source for a complete aftermarket exhaust system which also does away with the collector? I have all the electrics working properly except for the compressor which is more than likely a bad connection at the rear of the board . One more item in which I have not looked at closely....hard to find neutral while running , not a problem with the switch off...there is a good amount of play in all the shift linkage. Is that available? And lastly, Is there a good source for aftermarket parts for the 87' Venture like there is for the Goldwings? Oh, I live in Southern Pennsylvania.. Regards Dave
  24. OK !, You've heard this before but, I was making a delivery in Metamora, MI today around lunch time and you guess it a venture pulled up sooo I had to go talk to the driver. The man is 82 years old and had got this beautiful 88 Venture from a friend who was unable to ride anymore, I ran outside for a quick look and it was sporting a new set of Avon Venoms. I had to ask why Avons and he told me he had them on his other bike at home and was really happy with them ( Kawasaki Nomad ) and he proceeded to tell me he rebuilt the front end new seals Progressive springs and synced the carbs ect. I told him about this site and who knows we just might see him on here. How Cool, Gary
  25. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you or you saw having to do with a motorcycle? Last year I damn near killed myself with 2 motorcycles, neither one of which was running. I was putting my Virago up on it's center stand when I got off on the right side. My left foot got hung up on the seat and I fell between the Virago and my Nomad. My lightning fast reflexes being what they are I reached out for smoething to support my self and immediately found the left handle bar of the Nomad. The Virago was falling towards the Nomad and the Nomad was falling towards the Virago and I was falling down in the middle of the heap. There I was, caught in the middle again, with my right arm hanging onto the Nomad and the Nomad hanging onto the Virago and me on my back underneath both. Not good! I did manage to crawl out from under and get help standing both bikes back up. no one has let me forget this. I started so let's here some more.
