  1. Is this true on a RSTD? They will run poor with the lowers removed...affects air intake flow....and they will bog at speed. I took the lowers off to check the cruise control and did a cable adjustment. I took it for a ride to test it without the lowers and it runs like crap! It Bogs down. It will idle fine and run gread at full throttle but bogs in mid range. Could running without lowers cause this? Mark
  2. Just installed the Clear View windwhield. This one is 2" shorter than the original and does have the recurve at the top. This allows me to see over the windshield instead of through it which I like. The lowers are wider and have a curve to them as well. I had made some flat lowers from black lexan to more closely match the lower fairing and the grill cover. I tossed those and went with the clear view version. Here are some pics. Oh, I splurged for the vent, but don't have an opinion on that yet. Looks like a difficult item to clean once it is full of bugs.
  3. I like looking through the Instructables website, because I feel handy even if I am not. I get their newsletter with featured projects, and the latest one I received had an instructable that some of you might like: Motorcycle Lowers (low deflectors) You may or may not have need for this Instructable, but browsing the related ones might be fun and spark your imagination. Heck, some of you might enjoy the Swirled White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake one more! Dave
  4. I'm trying to figure out how to fix my ongoing turbulence issues. It really is only a problem on the interstate about about 70mph plus. I have put on the largest Clearview Shield they make (without the curved top), their lowers, Buddy's deflectors, and it still was pretty bad on the interstate. It is like getting hammered on the helmet going down the road. 15 minutes of this and I have a headache. At 60, it is all just fine, but sometimes we just would rather be traveling on the interstate so we can get somewhere faster. Going across South Dakota is one of those types of places. Anyway, I decided to try to fix this. I have seen on this forum people taking a seat belt cushion and sewing in magnets and sticking along side the tank. I does seem like the turbulence is a result of air coming around the tank. I was hoping for something more permanent and something that doesn't look as bad. So, I took an old pair of Nomad lowers that I had put on my wife's Nomad a few years ago and with cable ties and duct tape, put them on the Royal Star. Out for a ride and it seems quite a bit better. I went in as many directions on a very windy (diagonal winds, 22mph with gusts to 30mph) and I think this might work. So, the next thing is to build my own lowers that would like these, but don't hit the windshield or the lower fairing when the forks are turned. Here is a picture of my prototype: http://data.netconx.net/tom/prototypelowers.jpg I'm hoping that anyone who has done this type of thing before can chime in and let me know the do's and don'ts or any other suggestions as I attempt to do this. Thanks. I haven't posted a picture here before, so I'm not sure how this will turn out. If it is bad, let me know. Tom
  5. I have been asked where to get lowers for a 96 Royal Star, seeing as they did not come with them. Anyone know of a set of lowers made for the early RS.

    Lowers

Long story short, last week I had to take a furlough, so wife and I headed south for a week of r&r in Fl. About 40 mles south of Warner Robbins, Ga. in the dark, 80mph, hit something? Not sure what it was? Desk? Drawer? Some kind of piece of furniture. Anyways, got the bike pulled over to check for damages. Broke both lowers, brake lines, radiator and all look ok, but am gonna have to replace the cowlings, bent the crash bars, but they can be straightened. Any one got any good deals on lowers for an 01 RSV?
  7. Looking at a '87 Venture Royale XVZ13DTC. Need brake and clutch pedal lowers to get it to fit. Need to move the pegs down and forward. Any suggestions? Resources? I'm new here, any help appreciated. NOTE: I did own a '99 RSV, and do own a '03 RSV with sidecar. The '87 would be added, and replace a Road Star 1700. Thanks again.
  8. I just installed a Hoppe fairing on my 07 RSTD and noticed a lot of wind coming under it. Has anyone installed a Hoppe and modified a set of lowers to deflect the wind? pics would be nice if possible.
  9. I've noticed some wind buffeting on my RSTD that I don't have on my 07 V-Star 1300T. I installed Buck's lowers on my 1300 and the buffeting was noticeable less. The 1300's windshield is about 2" taller so cutting the windshield shouldn't help the buffeting, but Buck's lowers are considerably wider and longer than the stock RSTDs. Has anyone experimented with their lowers or done anything to improve the buffeting? The RSTD is not all that bad but after putting the lowers on the 1300 I am spoiled. Thanks for any comments!
  10. Well finally got the Batwing fairing installed on the V Star, it only took a few hours to do, but it took, a door fabricator, a substitute school teacher, a Fed Ex driver and a rocket scientist.......so wasnt to tough............and we also rewired this weird looking trailer so the rocket scientist could get it home from here. New pics added, removed the fairing to adjust the brackets and paint, fairing is now reinstalled with everything,w/s, lowers, and fork lowers...........Its finished.........:dancefool: I guess I can call it Midnite now................
  11. Does anyone here have the Yamaha smoked lowers on their Venture and a set of Kuryakyn highway pegs mounted as well? I am not sure if you can do both so I am asking. Pictures would help showing the highway pegs mounted along with the Yamaha lowers...also would be interested in knowing the model number and any additional accessories needed to make that happen.
  12. Question for those with highway lights and lowered front end. Do you have any problems with the lowers (plexi wings) hitting? I also plan on putting a spacer on the light bar to move it away from the faring and this will lower it some also. I broke one side bottoming out and am making replacements so I can make them shorter. Thanks Rod 2 days to Utah trip and the bike is in pieces, but they are clean.
  13. Many of you have installed Tony's passing light extension bracket. I just did and I love not having to drop the lights to split the fairing. I noticed, however, that the clear plastic lowers are attached to the passing light bar, and that extending the passing lights also moved the lowers away from the forks about 2 inches so that the rubber bumper no longer supported the lowers. I've read that others here have had lowers break when they were not supported against the fork. For this reason I installed a 2" bolt through the bottom hole in the bracket and put a rubber tip on the end of it so now it rests nicely against the fork. Just wondering what some of you done with this situation. I'm interested in how others have dealt with this. Thanks!
  14. I have just spent and hour looking for the thread that talked about a support from the drivers floorboards to the engine guards to stiffen the lowers. I have the clamps but can not remeber where and how they were attached to the floorboards. Someone please help a feeble old man.
  15. just got back from a great ride on my new v-star 1300.(long way to walmart for oil).lol. just me the bike and the wind.what a great ride it was.got back did first oil and filter change.this is one fine bike. yamaha did well.trying to pick it apart. so far the only two things i have to complain about is lowspeed transmission noise, and wind buffeting due to not having lowers on the windshield.it is the smoothest bike i have ever rode and has zero vibration at any speed,(rare for a v-twin).got 44mpg on first tank and 55 mpg on the second tank.i am making polished stainless lowers and have cut 4" off the windshield so i can now look over it.it has plenty of room and is a good size bike, yet light weight and very agile.thanks to dragon rider for influencing my final decision to buy it.the chroming has begun.
