  1. Hey everyone, I'm in the search for information regarding the cowling on a 1300 V-Star Deluxe. I like the new shape Yamaha has gone with, and considering the cowling on my '02 Venture has seen better days I decided to look into replacing it with a new one from a V-Star. I've contacted my local dealer for some schematics and called the corporate office but I haven't gotten too far. What I'm mostly trying to answer is: 1. How similar are the mounting screw positions for the two bikes? 2. Has anyone also looked into this, and received any better information? 3. Is the V-Star 1300 relatively the same as the Royal Star? That's all. Let me know your thoughts!
  2. I am looking at buying a set of mud flaps from Chiholwee leather, but they only sell flaps for the road star and the v-star. My question is, will any of these two models fit my 2009 royal star tour deluxe fenders.
  3. since i'm fazing out the motorcycles. i can't believe i ended up with my all time favorites. i've had a few bikes that have earned a place in my heart, but my majesty scooter, v-star 1300, and stratoliner s are the pick of the crop. the scooter is my little caddy, 58 mpg, automatic, handles like a crotch rocket and will cruise all day at 70 mph. the v-star is fast, comfortable, reliable, looks nice, smooth, handles, and will cut the curves with the best of them. the strat is my all time favorite, bar none. it fits like a glove, sits low, handles great, has balls out power anywhere you want it, no vibration, and matches my royal star for the two best looking bikes i ever owned. i would think the new strat deluxe decked out would be right at the top with the ultimate tourer. the v-star is going up for sale and i will keep the scoot and strat until it's time to hang it up.
  4. well, age has finally caught up with me so i'm getting ready for retirement a second time. i only have four bikes left. my stratoliner, v-star 1300, majesty 400 scooter, and a 1958 cushman pacemaker scooter. the v-star is on the auction block and the strat and majesty are keepers. the cushman is going too. the cushman is totally restored and up dated with the latest technology and is probably one of the nicest looking ones in the country. as long as i can get my leg over the strat i will keep riding. it gets rougher every time i ride. i figure i can make it another year. anyone interested in a v-star or a cushman pm me.
  5. I'll start with my Wifes 2008 V-Star Silverado and my 2003 Midnight RSV http://i39.tinypic.com/311xv9v.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/345d6oz.jpg
  6. Here is a few pics of my son and his 1st bike. 05 V-Star 650 Classic. Let the good times begin!
  7. A co-worker has a V-Star 950 and is wiring up a radio but wants it to come on with key in accessory position. He is hooking it up thru a relay but not sure where to wire it in for "ignition switched" for this situation. Anyone have a soft copy (file) of the shop manual or have any background in this? Thanks !
  8. A guy wants to trade either a 2003 Harley Sportster 1200 Anniversary with 16000 miles or a 2009 V-star 950 with 2000 miles for my 91 Trans Am. I am leaning towards the V-star if we made the trade. Seems to be worth more. Any thoughts?
  9. I saw this on another site and don't know how reliable it is but I thought I would post this here just in case it involves any of you. Please forgive me if it's false. Hello everyone. I just received a letter from Yahama Motor Corp. stating it has been decided that a defect which relates to motorcycle safety exist in all 2009-2011 and certain 2012 XVS95 {V-Star 950} and XVS95CT {V-Star 950 Tourer} model motorcycles as well as all 2007 XVS13 {V-Star 1300-Tourer} models Reason for Recall,,, " In Affected motorcycles, there may not be a proper seal between the fuel pipes for the fuel injectors and the fuel hose that connects them due to an improperly molded fuel hose. Over time, pressurized fuel can begin leaking at the hose connection points, which could result in a fire hazard. " CONTACT your dealer if you have any questions.
  10. At 25,000 miles I bought new plugs for my 04 RSV, put them in the bike and went on about my way, ofcourse the bike did not seem to run any better. Well last weekend me and Deanna my daughter were going to ride to St Simons on Sat. so friday night with 31000 miles on the RSV I took the plugs out of the truck and actually put them in the motor. Bike ran much better then. We also found the right frount plug wire was not push down on the plug all the way You know these thing run pretty good on 3 cyls. and very smooth on all 4. 46.5 mpg on the trip, running between 65 and 70 mph. On the way back DeAnna's 06 v-star 1100, dropped the frount cyl, came home on the back cyl. wide open 55 mph. found the 1100 v-star have fuel shut-off valve like lawn mower to shut the fuel off to the needle valve in the carb. frount failed.
  11. Hi. I traded up from a V-Star 1100 to a used 2006 Venture with 3,200 miles on it. Wow, what a highway cruiser! One small issue is starting the bike. It seems to take a long time to warm up. Starts fine, but has now power for the first few minutes. It also has a chrome cap on the choke button. The linkage seems loose, and the choke will not stay out; pulls itself in when you give it a little throttle. Can this be tightened? Is it usual for a water cooled bike to take a while longer to warm up? I used to be able to start the V-Star and drive away immediately. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, G
  12. Friend (100 miles away) who has a V-Star (1100 I think) and has been running premium exclusively. He mostly rides it to commute (5 miles, maybe one way) back and forth to work. Talked to him tonight and he is complaining that he is having to jump it off and it runs like crap! The AutoZone battery is only a year old and he has not been using the tender that he has. I told him that with his short trips the bike cannot recharge completely, so he is gonna start using the tender. I wonder if the low battery could be contributing to the rough running? My main question for you V-Star riders, is what grade gas do you use? My friend tells me that the owners manual says "86 octane or higher". I would guess that 87 would work, but then again I don't have a V-Star.
  13. since retirement is getting closer and i want to get down to one bike. i have three choices so far. i love my v-star, and have been looking at a victory crossroads, and a triumph thunder bird. the v-star is the cheapest route, but i sure like them other two. such a delema.
  14. Looks like we worked out a deal for Dan, (my 16 yoa son) buying a 2001 V-Star 650 Custom with just 5275 miles on it. The testing deal is for $2000.00 We will be going to Walnut Grove, MN on Saturday to check it out. If it runs ok and he fits on it, it will be trailered home. (high only 27 degrees forcast) The only problem I can see from the Craig's list pics is that it was laid down once and has a dent the fuel tank. I think, hope, that could be fixed easily. If not, I think we could locate a replacement. Pinwall more than likely. Wish us luck Dave
  15. Here's a few pics of the back of my V-Star with the added lights. Muffinman has already made it a big lower and I can actually flat foot it. Makes it a lot easier to hold up a bike too, imagine that. He made the turn signals into running lights as well as turn signals. I think it's pretty bright back there now. Margaret
  16. wednesday i traded my beloved 86 venture for a 2000 v-star.. (straight up) the 86 was just to heavy for me now that i have lost 240 pounds( and muscle).. the v-star is nothing like my venture.. nooo sirr eeee.. but i sure feel safer cause i can reach the ground and handle it better.. both bikes had 24000 miles..
  17. decided i want to retire again so i'm doing a major down size to 2 or3 bikes. after i get rid of my zx14, i think the wing is going to hit the road. my ultimate goal is to end up with my v-star 1300, majesty scooter, and nomad. any one want a choice wing with all the goodies keep mine in mind. it's one decked out beauty and the price will be right. bill
  18. I am selling my bike for 3K. Its an 85 VR with all the trimmins with 39,000 mi. on it. I love it, but i want something that more suits my age, i'll enjoy a new venture when i have the time and money to enjoy one. Right now, I'm keeping it in the family and getting a V-Star. 3K is alot, so you can tell how much i want to sell it. I'll probably be enjoying this bike for awhile longer!
  19. 5 years ago my wife and I both owned vmaxes. Our riding styles changed, we do more touring. I traded mine in for a rstd, several years ago my wife went to an 1100 v-star. Well today she traded for a 09 rstd. She's really happy right now, got to go Mark
  20. When I joined I had a V-Star 1100, but I sold it and now have an 05 RSTD. How do I change it where it shows up under my username?
  21. Got a brother in law looking at a 07 V-Star 1800 They want 5800. What kind of price is that? I think he said it was pretty low miles.
  22. i came across an add for the V-STAR 950 TOURER in the paper yesterday.. it really seems like the kinda bike for me.. it has electronic fuel injection, v- twin,v windsheild, saddle bags, passenger backrest, and was selling new for under $9,000. does anyone here have one or know of someone who does ,and what do they think? I was thinking that this might be the answer when wanting to downsize to a easier to handle bike.. whats your thoughts?
  23. I have an 83 Venture std on which the rear shock has died, the bike has over 100k on it, & cosmetically not in the best of shape (still runs great), & I'm having a REALLY hard time spending 500 bucks on a shock for a bike that probably isn't worth much more than that. In my perusing the internet, I've noticed that in a couple of parts listings, replacement shocks for this bike share the same part number as the replacement shock for an 99-06 V-Star 1100. This lead me to thinking about finding a used shock for a V-Star, as I would have a LOT more faith in a used shock for a 5 year old bike, than spending the same amount of money on a 26 year old shock (I've bought several off of eBay, all bad). In comparing the two shocks, the V-Star shock has a clevis on the bottom, whereas the Venture shock has eyes at both ends. I guess what I'm asking for in my rather long-winded way, has anybody heard of using a V-Star shock on the 1st gen Ventures, & if so what modifications did they have to do? Thanks in advance, Wynn
  24. I thought my wife was going to take the course and ride the bike-but no way hosay. Can't ride two bikes (at least not at the same time). Need to sell my 2007 V-Star 1300 tourer. Has about everything including cruise control. Only 4700 miles and looks like new. Will take $8400 or for $400 more will add a Mustang seat with backrest (everyone knows what those things sell for). If anyone knows someone that might be interested, just send me an email.
  25. A guy at work was installing some Kuryakin Grips and broke the thingamajig that the throttle cable attaches to (no. 8 in the picture). I'm sure it wouldn't have to be from a V-Star, I think any that fits a 1" bar will work. Does anyone here have one?
