  1. for all you old timers that are somewhat mechanically inclined looking for a great hobby. try a cushman scooter out for size. i've been reliving my childhood memories for quite a few years building and restoring cushmans. i started riding cushmans back in the 50's and have never lost my love for them. there are some very neat and fast cushmans out there that will easily top 100 mph and blow the doors off alot of motorcycles. you ain't lived till you put a harley in the weeds on a motor scooter. been there done that. i'm building a sleeper now with a very warmed over harbor freight motor and cvt drive. it should top out around 85 mph. it is a 1958 pacemaker, a model i wanted since i was a kid. check out some of the cushman sights for more info. just punch in cushman scooter and have a ball reliving the old days. there is a meet in portland indiana, in july, every year, with thousands of antique scooters and motor bikes for sale, at the fairgrounds. if you need any info on meets or cushmans just give me a holler. us old timers are slowly dying off and we, (the cushman folks), want to keep the interest alive. bill
  2. i put the bikes away too early this year. got the strat in my shop for the winter, needing new tires. the v-star is in the trailer for the winter on the charger, that leaves me with the majesty scooter, and cushman to ride this winter. ugh. the weather here has been awesome. whats a guy to do? i did ride the cushman about a 1/4 mile last weekend to test out the new mikuni i put on it. guess i will just sit here and suffer.
  3. well, age has finally caught up with me so i'm getting ready for retirement a second time. i only have four bikes left. my stratoliner, v-star 1300, majesty 400 scooter, and a 1958 cushman pacemaker scooter. the v-star is on the auction block and the strat and majesty are keepers. the cushman is going too. the cushman is totally restored and up dated with the latest technology and is probably one of the nicest looking ones in the country. as long as i can get my leg over the strat i will keep riding. it gets rougher every time i ride. i figure i can make it another year. anyone interested in a v-star or a cushman pm me.
  4. 1962 Cushman Eagle, Black with leather bags, chrome fender tips. Restored in 2006, $3500. 251-510-7556. Don't know the person, but has been in paper for a week. tew47
  5. here are some pics of my new to me cushman scooter.
  6. here are some cushman pics of my finished winter project. it is a 1958 cushman pacemaker with an electric start 390 cc, honda clone engine, with a cvt drive. after hundreds of hours of work i finally got ti done and even rode it.
  7. anyone that is interested in cushman scooters and vintage motor bikes may want to check out the cushman meet at the fairgrounds in greenwood ar. next weekend. april 15th, and 16th. it is hosted by the arkansas vintage scooter club, and always has a big turnout of people and scooters. my winter project will be on display there for it's first outing. drop in if your in the area. it's free. great bunch of people too. ps. there is usually alot of used scooters for sale.
  8. well the cushman is done and it hit the road for the shake down cruise today. it ran flawlesly and has more balls than i planned on. very fast. i think this is the best build i ever did, and it's going to be my last one. pictures will be coming soon. it really turned out better than i planned on. i just wanted a rider, and got in deeper than i planned. heading for greenwo0d ar. in 2 weeks for the debut. next project which should be a cheapy, is a gocart with an old 7 hp. wisconsin engine that i picked up at an old thresher show. it's not going to be anything major just an engine restoration and build a gokart from scratch. i never had a real gokart. the engine is almost like one i had on a cushman airborn frame back in the 50's.
  9. just got the lower end back together on the engine. billet rod, and new cam with a little more duration, and lift. next is the head. i usually port my own heads. but this time i bought a new one that is milled .100", ported and flowed, heavier springs, and a three angle valve job. i never realized there was so much available for these honda motors till i searched the net.. right now i,m up in the air on the carb. i am considering a 34 mm mikuni flat side. because the intake port is huge. i really wanted a smaller carb for lowend torque. i'm also considering roller rocker arms. only have 3 months before the arkansas spring cushman meet so i need to get my butt in gear.
  10. well i'm way ahead on my winter project. the drive train and engine is all mounted after much machining, fabricating, and welding. had to lengthen the frame 2" to fit the new engine and automatic transmission in. like putting 10 lbs. of crap in a 5lb bag. the body which was hammered from one end to the other, is almost ready for the paint shop, i had to fabricate and weld in some new panels. i have to disassemble it and send the body off for paint, and paint the frame. then i can start the final assembly. it should look almost original at first glance accept for the oversize aluminum wheels and front disc brake. another cushman sleeper will hit the road this winter. i'm hoping for a cruising speed around 65 or 70 mph.. got an idea for a small trailer to tow behind and taking a cross country trip with my buddy on his cushman eagle that i built for him. pics to come soon, i hope. bill:2133:
  11. the frames at the sand blaster, and i just fired up the new motor for it. i bought a new 13 hp, 389 cc, overhead valve, electric start motor, from harbor freight. that along with the cvt, comet clutch, should set a cruising speed around 65mph, top speed around 75 mph. i'm using a zx-14 rear disc and caliper for the front brake and the original drum brake in the rear. it should stop good and run with the hardleys uo to 50 mph., with it's low weight of 275 lbs.. getting excited about getting my frame back so i can start machining parts for the drive train and get the motor mounted. i'm also going to 10" polished aluminum wheels with michlein tires to improve the handling. to finish things off i am going to paint it silver and blue clear coat to match my nomad. it will look original except for the wheels, disc brake, and fancy paint job. should be a real sleeper at the cushman meets. for all you folks that had and loved cushmans when you were young , they are still very popular. there are thousands of them around. check out some of the cushman sites. it makes a great hobby. there are alot of meets, and nice people involved in them.
  12. we went to the old thrasher show in montgomery city mo. and i ran across an old bkn 7 hp. wisconsin engine. i had one just like it when i was about 14 mounted on a cushman airborn frame, and the memories came alive. just had to have it. great shape. picked for $80.00 value $250.00, + $170.00. i should have never watched that show. :clap2:
  13. got to looking at my winter project yesterday (a 1959 cushman pacemaker), and it looked so pathetic i just had to tear into it. tore it all apart and it's ready to sandblast, went to harbor freight and bought a 13 hp, motor, so it looks like all systems are go. it will have a comet cv automatic which i had in stock, and i'm planning on painting it medium metallic blue and silver to match my nomad. hoping for a cruising speed around 65 so i can keep up with traffic. since i'm working towards my second retirement, i just had to come up with another hobby so i'm back in the cushman gang.
  14. me and one of my best machinist buddies are going to greenwood arkansas tomorrow morning for the arkansas state cushman meet at the fairgrounds in greenwood. we should be there about noon if anyone in the area wants to come over and visit. we are going to show off the 4 speed 1958 eagle that i custom built for him. so if you want to ride a very fast cushman come on over. it's the prototype for the transmission and primary drive that we designed and built. he already has a waiting list for them. there will be lots of custom and restored cushmans there to see and a great bunch of people. i think we will have the cushman here at my st. charles meet along with my very good buddy. we will be there till noon saturday and then head home. i'm starting to feel like la pryor, never at home anymore. a dream come true. just a little rougher at my age. hope to see a venturerider there. i will have the red goldwing ball cap on. bill
  15. I thought I would share these photos of a very nice Cushman scooter we saw in Sunman, Indiana. Maybe it may make a comeback. Mama:big-grin-emoticon:
