  1. since i'm fazing out the motorcycles. i can't believe i ended up with my all time favorites. i've had a few bikes that have earned a place in my heart, but my majesty scooter, v-star 1300, and stratoliner s are the pick of the crop. the scooter is my little caddy, 58 mpg, automatic, handles like a crotch rocket and will cruise all day at 70 mph. the v-star is fast, comfortable, reliable, looks nice, smooth, handles, and will cut the curves with the best of them. the strat is my all time favorite, bar none. it fits like a glove, sits low, handles great, has balls out power anywhere you want it, no vibration, and matches my royal star for the two best looking bikes i ever owned. i would think the new strat deluxe decked out would be right at the top with the ultimate tourer. the v-star is going up for sale and i will keep the scoot and strat until it's time to hang it up.
  2. I ended up buying my old Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic back from my son-in-law last night. They only put 1800 miles on it in 4 years! They both said that it didn't make sense to keep it and they could use the money elsewhere. (AND, I'm sure that know that I will let them borrow it if they want to go for a ride). WOW what a difference from my 07 Venture! This thing rides rough, handles completely different and boy does it seem lighter!! - I may end up teaching my wife to ride! So, I guess that I am finally part of the group that has more than one ride in the stable!! Craigr

    Gas Pumps

EPA to remove vapor-capturing rubber boot from gas pump handles. Linky
  4. Not a Yamaha, but it made it home. Rode it for about 75 miles today. I really like the way the bike handles. I got a keeper in this bike!
  5. I took the trunk off. Now I need to know what bracket I need to mount for a sissy bar and small luggage rack..........The motor handles better without the wind catcher behind me.
  6. My 83 Venture has the stock adjustable handlebars, but I can't get them where I want them. I've had them in and out, up and down, and nothing seems right. I want the handles to be closer to the seat, but when they are swiveled back, the angle is wrong and my wrists ache. Anyone know how to get the actual handles closer to the seat, so I can sit up more, and have the handles at close to right angles to the wheels?
  7. ........Bridgestone Tires? I'm looking at a set of spitfire 2's for my 1st Gen. That is what are on it now. It handles poorly but the rear tire is pretty much bald and the front is badly cupped.
  8. I initiated my KLR 650 Thursday ,Okay it's not a 4-wheeler, I decided to take one of these winter ski-doo trails that followed the Trans Canada power lines for 12 miles one way. The trail was jagged , round boulder gravel great for a jeep in low gear:rotfl:for 5 miles and then the water showed up. Most the way up the depth of the water was around 1 foot or 2 deep except the one pictured below was knee deep (Now which side to I take left, right or down the middle.) Down the middle it will be ....While standing upward and in second gear I hammered it Reached the curve of the road and my eyes widened :doh:a major wash out fast flowing water I kept it at a steady pace and than it happened the front wheel drops downward and here Im going over the handles bars .Yahoo!!! Flat on my back and a motorcycle on top of me Im so glad that it is a light scoot The other 2 photos Northern Ontario Speckle Trout lakes Oh the camera , sleeping bag tent Etc are presently being dried out Yup , Im not 21 . The pain stays a little longer:rotfl:
  9. Looking to put a wider tire at the rear. What is the widest tire you guys have installed. Curious how it handles, especially leaning in turns. Screaming Red:doh:
  10. So i packed the runkill switch with dielectric grease and the stupid thing still left me stranded in a parking lot. So i took the switch out and bypassed it just to get home. I'd like to find a totally new switch somewhere (maybe a better one that handles moisture a little better). Any ideas? I'm not having much luck other than some crappy used ones on ebay that will probably have the same issue. thanks a bunch.
  11. I have just purchased an RSV, and need to find a set of passenger grab rails (handles) for it. The originals were removed and then lost. Anyone have a set to sell or know where I can get a set? Thanks, Joe

    RSTD Passenger Handles

I have a '07 RSTD and I want to increase the safety for my daughter when she rides with me. I like the grab handles on the RSV, however the back of the handles mount under the trunk, which the RSTD doesn't have. Is there a similar handle set that mount only to the chrome fender strips available for the RSTD?
  13. Stopped by Honda of Jax today to buy a tube of moly 60 paste. They had only one left and it was resealed sloppily with tape, the cap covering the tube was askew and there was grease marks on the tube. I asked if they had any more in the back as I know this is a standard ploy to only display something they want to get rid of before they put out the good stuff. They said no. One of the mechanics came over and said that sometimes they might run out of their stock in the rear and might open up a tube and take a "dab" from it then reseal it. Told them that i wasnt too comfy paying full retail (15.99) for an open and obviously used package. They just shrugged their sholders and I walked out. Now im pretty sure that there was nothing wrong with the grease itself, but I sure didnt like the way the dealers retail staff handles their product and customers. Sorry guys, but im no idiot.
  14. well i got my wing on the road this morning with my totally reworked racetech forks. what a difference in the ride. disabled the antidive with the mod and it really handles the washboard bumps now. really made a noticable difference. did anyone ever wonder why we can buy a new car and don't have to buy seats, modify suspension so it rides and handles right, change the steering wheel so it's more comfortable, etc. if any one should be able to build a perfect bike it ought to be the japenese. please don't let this go political. bill
  15. After my accident, I've noticed a sometimes annoying squeaking in what sounds to be coming from the rear shock on my 07 Venture. Is this a common ailment or is it something serious where I shouldn't ride the bike. The bike handles like it's on rails so I haven't noticed any difference in that area. TIA, Eddie
  16. Hi, I'm a new Venture owner. I've been reading some of the articles and have had the VR long enough to have the sidestand switch screw me in rush hour traffic. Guys on the tech / tip list gave me a great tip that worked like a champ. I've got a couple of questions about the bike's operation. Having now put about 1500 miles on it I've found there are a couple of quirky things about it's handling. First let me say, for as big as it is, I'm quite amazed it handles in the curves as well as it does. I'm pleasantly surprised. I discovered recently though that it doesn't handle worth a damn in even light gravel. Suddenly the positive control goes right out the window and the bike just hunts and hops all over the place. It's terrible. I've experimented a bit and find nothing I've thought of seems to help. Slow down and waddle it through. It's so bad someone dropped some gravel on an otherwise beautiful stretch of pavement. I was crusing along and saw the gravel but it was nothing so I didn't worry about it. Immediate hunt for disaster. It's hard for me to understand how a bike that handles as well as this does in so many situations including rain-flooded streets could turn to crap over fine gravel... The other handling issue I've run across is what I'll call the rubber-band handling effect. At very low speeds (good pavement - no gravel ) moving the handlebars feels like the front wheel isn't responding to the movement of the bars. Get the bike moving 10 mph or more, or put some throttle on and the steering feels solid. The bike has what appears to be a good solid fork brace, the forks seem to be in good condition and the fluid has been changed and filled to specs. The anti-dive technology is new to me but it seems to be working and I've tried some hard stops and was pleased with the machine's tracking and stopping distances. So, anyone ever experienced either of these phenomena before? Any advice or best guesses would be appreciated. BTW, I've got a '91 VR with about 140k on it. It's pretty clean considering the mileage and like I said, runs and handles under most circumstances wonderfully! Oh, and the tires (Metzler 880) are in very good shape, not new but only minimal wear from all appearances. I'm not certain they're the standard sized tires (particularly the front). I uploaded some pictures so you can see what shape it's in, details I might not realize are important, etc http://www.venturerider.org/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1136 thanks! indy
