  1. Get you mind back on Bikes! Darlene is a stock 2006 RSTD with 20k miles...... When the she is cold, I hear a groan when I climb on....Be nice! The groan seems to go away after I have ridden her a bit.... Oh, jeez! The dealer says that the Yamaha rep. has told him to take out the rear shock and lubricate it and all moving parts.... So having read many posts on here about this shock, I don't recall any that discussed removing and lubrication. The shock is not leaking as far as I can tell, but.... Am I being slow-rolled by the dealer/rep? The bike is still under warranty for another month. Many thanks....Steve ****UPDATE**** ****UPDATE**** Well, after a slight delay due to weather and health, I brought Darlene to another dealer who lubed everything up and still heard the groan. They told me today that they have ordered a new shock under warranty. This is a wonderful site and I am the grateful recipient of many tips from the others on here. I trust now that Darlene's action beneath me will be as energetic as when she was younger, but I'll probably miss her groan...................
  2. My friend Bobby was looking at the bikes a few days ago, and maid the commit that on the Venture I have car tire. On the kannon bike with a 350 chevy car eng I have a motorcycle tire. I told him I bought it that way, would change when the tire wears out. He said it was just a little irony there. LMAO Gregg
  3. (This was the reason I posted a few weeks back requesting your prayers). I have many memories of this man.....Many miles we rode together, many laughs shared, many times sitting at the same table, many stories told.. Please click on link: Jerome Lee Bough Obituary: View Jerome Bough's Obituary by Northwest Herald VR.ORG name: Boo Joined VR.Org on 08-16-2006 Bike Year and Model: 2001 Red RSV EDIT 12-27-14: Sorry I didn't explain/provide this information in my original post folks. I was having computer problems and wanted to post what I could at that moment to get the new out to you. Boo had Leukemia, MDS and his kidneys began failing. He was placed in the hospital during the third week of November. Dialysis was going on for his kidneys, and he was on some strong medication which left him bed ridden. Many sores appeared in his mouth which made it hard for him to speak. His legs were both swelled up. The Dr. told him and his wife Jane that he would not make it to the new year. Boo wanted to go home to be with his family. The hospital let him go home on Friday, Dec 5th, knowing there wasn't anything else they could do for him. Jane asked her their kids to watch him on Friday Dec 12th so that she could go to the funeral home to make arrangements. When Jane returned home her kids met her at the front door. Jane knew he passed while she was gone. Jane told me that Boo just didn't want to her to see him pass on . They were married 47 years., That is a long time to be with someone. Boo and Jane were good friends with everyone they met in the VR family. He will be missed..
  4. Thank You... To folks that give of themselves freely and without reservation. Who don't look for something in return and genuinely give to their fellow man? As some of you folks know, unbeknownst to Lonna or Myself, y'all decided to secretly raise funds for us. I'm not the kind of person who openly lets my troubles known. Times are a bit tight right now as we have Lonna's son and his family with us. Me having kidney stones doesn't help either with the surgeries, but I wasn't greatly worried as I have walked this walk before. Then I find out this morning of y'all's plan, and was very humbled. Before anything else....Thank You from the bottom of our hearts for thinking of us and wanting to help us. Even though we are the reason for this, and blessed beyond our wildest dreams, it is all of you that prove who is truly blessed, and it is all of you. This time of year we look to give to others, and help those in need. This tells of our character and leading by example, which you folks have. My Grandfathers instilled in me probably the most important things that I know. Both were pay it forward type men, and always told me to do that when I could. I have had many great teachers, my Mother and both Fathers who told me to stick to my guns and accept responsibilities and actions if you screw up. I try very hard to live up to my parents and grandparents lessons. Karma, is a 2 sided sword, good will come back ten fold, bad will come back even worse. God has always provided for me and my family, and this is no exception. All of you should be very proud of yourselves, it's easy to just look the other way. It's helping when you can that defines you. I am very proud to know all of you, you folks let me know that what comes around goes around. We will never forget what you have done for us this year. Y'all are giving our children a great lesson of the season and showing them 1st hand that surrounding yourself with good like minded people is a good thing. Thank you all so much for helping us, as always, the door is open at this house here in Cleveland Texas.
  5. Note: This is ONLY a joke and was not posted to address any type of religion in any way. I just thought it was funny and thought some of you here would enjoy it too. I have always questioned if Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton were really preachers since they have no church. When I heard Al Sharpton was guest preacher at a black Houston Church, I decided to check him out in person and see what it was all about......... . I sat down and Sharpton came up to me, I don't know why, maybe it was because I was the only white person in the Church. He laid his hands on my hand and said: "By the will of Jesus the Lord All Mighty, and the will of God, you will walk today." I told him I was not paralyzed. He came back and laid his hands on me again, and repeated the same thing. Again I told him there is nothing wrong with me. After the sermon I stepped outside and lo and behold, my dang car had been stolen!
  6. Just thought I'd warn everyone about how useless OnStar is so you don't waste your money like we did. Long story short, we decided to try it on my wife's Yukon as she drives across the mountains quite a bit. We haven't needed it for almost a year until during the big snow and ice storms we had in December. We pulled to a stop at a stop sign and the road angled towards the ditch. Well it was so icy that when we stopped we slid directly sideways onto the top edge of the ditch. We couldn't move by ourselves and people that tried to help would just about slide in with us as we would just go deeper as it was so icy. So we decided to use our OnStar as we had paid for it. When we called the rep looked up where we were located and said "oh, we can't send anyone out as it is our company policy to not dispatch anyone when it puts them in danger and with the snow and ice it will so we can't". He told us we had to call a tow truck or the police on our own as nobody was hurt. I was ticked off, let him and the supervisor know that we would be canceling as I say very little use for it when it was dry and warm out. I also told him I would be posting it on this message board and he told me that wouldn't affect their business one bit so go ahead. Not real interested in customer service! We called a tow truck and they wouldn't come without the police calling them. When we called the sherriff, his response to our OnStar issue was "yeah, I hear that quite a bit. for every one person they help, I hear of 5 others that they wouldn't". So be warned!! Big waste of money IMHO.
  7. I wreck my 83. I will be down for about a year. Got to have rods and screws put in my right leg. Got stiches in my chest and upper arm. My face looks like Mike Tyson hit me a few times. Road rash every where. I have not look at the bike yet but was told its banged up good. I wanting to know if anyone here has ever seen are made a bobber out of a venture bike?
  8. Please don't turn this into a political debate, not my intention. My wife, son and I have an insurance agency. Agencies and other businesses close to us have been robbed so my son and I conceal carry. When I get to the office I put mine in my desk drawer. I came close to having to use it last week. My wife sits up front with a counter about waist higher in front of her. I am across the hall but I can see her. A customer was waiting to see me. I walk out to the receiption area to tell the customer sitting on the sofa to come in. Another guy is comes in the door and I noticed he had a frown on his face but didn't think anything about it. The guy told my wife he wanted to get a quote. She told him to have a seat and and soon as I was available I would give him a quote. I told the customer waiting to come in my office. After about 15 or 20 minutes I heard the guy waiting yelling and using the f word with my wife. She told him to leave the office and he said he wasn't going anywhere and no one was going to tell him what to do. I can't use the words he was saying. I told my customer to excuse me and I got my gun out of my desk and went to the front. I had the gun in my right hand with my arm down. I told the guy to leave and said he wasn't going anywhere. I told my wife to call 911. The guy said he had a gun bigger than mine and then said I pointed the gun at him and no one was going to point a gun at him and get away with it. I never pointed the gun at him. I told my wife to call 911 again and tell the police to hurray. I started to tell the guy if he came toward the counter I was going to shoot him but I thought it was better to say nothing and not adjitate the guy. The police officer arrived and the guy started yelling at him and told him he wanted me arrested for pointing the gun at him. The officer told him to sit down and shut up or he was going to arrest him. The guy said he wanted to see a lieutenant. Another officer arrived and called for a lieutenant. Another officer arrived in an unmarked car and came in. He approached the guy and said the lieutenant is off but I am the captain and I understand you have something to say to me. The guy said yes I want this man, meaning me, arrested for aggravated assualt for pointing a gun at me. The captain said, let me tell you something, this man has the right to protect his property and wife, you are here acting like a fool with your hands in your pocket so he doestn't know what you might do so he can point the gun at you if he wants. The captain asked if I wanted to let this guy come on the property again and I said no sir. He said then tell him. I told the gun to leave immediately and to never come in my office again. The captain then told him if he ever came on the premises again he would be arrested. The guy left yelling I was predjudiced and he guessed since he didn't have a masters degree he wasn't welcome. That makes sense. If the guy had tried to come over the counter I would have shot him. I often wondered what I would do if I had to pull a gun on someone and it is not a pleasant experience. I realized I wouldn't shoot someone unless my life was threatened and hope I never have this happen again. It's a shame the world has come to this, but there are dangerous people out there.
  9. Hi All Ive been at work since 5am . At 7am Christy called and told me Webster ny had a fire going on , then she told me 4 firefighters had been shot. I have been in contact with some of my students and they are fine. But just found out two of the firefighters died. Just not a good day. Bull463
  10. Well I ordered a Sports-Vue 360 cam corder for $185.00 and I received it with in a week or less. Nice size little camera. It comes with a remote so I took it hunting with me to capture the BIG BUCK coming in. Played around with it for awhile in the woods strapped to my head and mounted it in the truck for the trip to and from hunting. When I went to watch the great movies I filmed it wound not play them. Disappointed I contacted Sports-Vue on there web sight. I told them what it was doing. The same day I e-mailed Customer Service, Jason contacted me and told me it had a corrupt file on the memory card and I would have to delete that file. You can't do it with the camera so you have to do it on a computer. I told him this will be very annoying out in the field if we are trying to watch a play back as I was trying to do last night. He e-mailed back and said quote,"Try recording a few more videos and see if it does it again. If it does, I can send you out a new camera". Well it did it again and I let him know. This was his reply. Quote, "I'm sorry that the camera is not working. I set up a RMA for the bad camera, I will ship the new one today with a return shipping label. Send back the camera only, keep all of the accessories". And this is exactly what he did. The new camera and all the accessories came in less than a week. This was this past Saturday so I have played with this one for a couple of days. This camera is capable of "Time Recording", set the time to start and stop recording. "Motion Detecting" It will record once it detects motion and you can adjust how long it will record after it detects. It also does "Still Pictures". The videos and still pictures are very sharp. It also records sound if you want it to. I was very impressed with customer support and I am now impressed with the Video Camera. Just passing info on if anyone is interested in a Sport camera.
  11. When your wife says "What?". It's not that she didn't hear you. She just wants to give you a chance to correct what you just said.
  12. Now of course, I am referring to motorcycling. I personally have thought it quite a few times, especially at night riding out in the country. I really do not think I have actually told him to though as yet. And if you told him to slow down, would he do it, or just be mad at you. Yama Mama
  13. Wife got a new Tahoe, while we were working the deal the salesman asks me what else I needed so i threw out that it did not have a cassette deck . . . . The stare was priceless, I did say it with a strait face and he went to see the accessory guy. Now this is the wife's and she wanted me to stop messin with the guy and just get the car. When he came back I told him I just bought a bike and it had a cassette player. He tells us he has never even seen a cassette tape. . . No more 8 track, no more cassette ( Unless U ride a Yamaha ) . . .

  15. Looking at ammunition. Not sure how I got here. last thing I can remember my wife told me she had to go training bra shopping for my oldest daughter.
  16. I felt like I “starred” in it, this afternoon. Bulldozing a steep patch of woods out at the farm when all of a sudden I’m feeling this immense pain on my face, ears, neck and arms, akin to being stabbed repeatedly with a ice pick. Then I noticed the black hornets all around me and my vision started to blur. I throttled back the bulldozed turned the key off and jumped off the right side. Right into a large patch of briars, but, I didn’t feel that as those winged bas&$%ards were still after me. I ran down the bank pulling my tee shirt off as it was covered in hornets. Got very nauseated and headed for the road to flag down a car. Very sick on the stomach. No one stopped.... four cars went by.... Walked to the neighbors house , no one home... Well I climbed up a hill to where I could get a cell phone signal and Called Penny, she came right away... (15 miles away) Mean while unbeknownst to me, mom had called the ambulance Penny got here and after looking, determined I only had 20 or so bites and my eyes were glazed over. Well, mom called said ambulance was on the way and I told her to cancel it. She said 80 hornets will kill a horse but I told her I wasn’t bit with 80. so........... Went to garage to find me a little payback... in the form of a can of wasp and hornet spray . Got the whole way (300 yards) to where nest was. It was hidden in honeysuckle and was 5 ' from the bulldozer seat.and although the can was completely full, it had lost all pressure over the years and it dribbled out. Guess that payback will have to wait... Then I told Penny I was going to ride the bike back, but when I went to put the helmet on $#@^&*(( it hurt bad)) So glad she brought the car. The bikes still at the farm. My ears are still hurting as I write this 5 hours later So... How was your day?
  17. I was visiting a customer yesterday in Ohio and found out that she rides. She rides a very nice older and highly customized Harley Super Glide shovel head. Very nice bike. Now this lady is absolutely beautiful. Probably mid to late 30's based only upon the fact that she has an 18 year old daughter. Very sweet and fun lady. She told me a story about stopping by a local sandwich shop to pick up lunch to take back to her office. There was a new guy working behind the counter and he was going on and on about his new bike. Then the guy looked at her and said "yea, just picked up my new bike. Going to a meet this weekend. You should come by." She said that he went on and on trying to be really cool but then he screwed up. He told her "If you stop by, maybe I'll let you clean my bike". Oops.....very bad suggestion. There was a fairly good lunch crowd waiting by now and in front of all of them, the asked "what kind of bike did you buy". He replied that he had bought a brand new Harley Davidson Sportster. That was all she needed to know. Her reply to him was "Very nice, you will enjoy it. I actually started out on a girl's bike too". Game, set, match. She said that he had nothing else to say after that.
  18. Met Jack and Kay Ruen from down around Lima area yesterday in Grand Rapids,Oh. Very nice couple and fairly new to the venture. They had not heard of Ventureriders.Org so the wife and I told them about us and invited them to look around and join. Hope to see them on the site.

  20. Anybody have troubles with their 2010 and earlier Ford F-150 rearend clutches. I just took my truck in today for the 2nd time to replace the rearend clutch plates. I'm on the 3rd set in just over 28000 miles. The dealer has been good about it, and I'm told it is a fairly common problem. I was told that the rearend clutches have been the same for years and that the tooling used to make them is getting worn which explains the problems. Just wondering if im the only one having this problem or any of you have had it too. In 2011 they came ou with the 6 speed trans, so it may be possible that the rearend tooling has been updated.
  21. Hey all Posting for a friend of mine who recently purchased an 83 Venture. He had it serviced carbs cleaned, fluids all changed, new rubber. His problem is that it is running really hot. Temp gauge will redline, then fans come on and cool it down but just a little bit. He said it's uncomfortable to ride with the amount of heat it's putting out. He spoke with the stealer and was told that "that's just how they run". Doesn't sound right to me. Any advice or thoughts as to what his issue might be? Thanks for your help! Joe
  22. Big Bird is @ UAB in Birmingham last I heard he has a spot on his brain that they are suppose to try to use a gama radiation knife on... they were going to try and do this from what i was told before they started the other treatment... Continue to pray for Big Bird & his family...
  23. While at work today, I walked to our mailbox and just as I turned to go bac to the office, I hear a motocycle coming towards me. Well of course I looked up and I saw a very nice looking MK2 blonde go by and turn into the dealer next door. When I got done with work, 15 minutes later, I go to the dealer to get some YamaLube to change the oil in my "84. Well, the owner of the MK2 was still inside. He is the owner of one of the local construction companies. We had a nice chat inside and then went and looked at his bike. He told me he got it form a guy on ebay form Corsica, SD. It is a 1987 Royale and has many of the extra bells and whistles, including but not limited to, venturline trunk rack, venturline drivers backrest and what look to me to be some sort of original driving lights. Of course I told him about the VentureRiders.org and all the help that I have recieved from all the great folks here. He is looking for some fairing parts since someone in the past damaged the right rear corner and tried to fix it with bondo. Hope to see him here, and on the road, soon. Dave
  24. I was in my back yard trying to launch a kite. I threw the kite up in the air, the wind would catch it for a few seconds, then it would come crashing back down to earth. I tried this a few more times with no success. All the while, my wife is watching from the kitchen window, muttering to herself how men need to be told how to do everything. She opens the window and yelled to me, 'You need a piece of tail.' I turned with a confused look on my face and said, 'Make up your mind. Last night, you told me to go fly a kite.
  25. My wife had a platinum CapitalOne credit card, last year she paid of the balance and called on the same day to tell them to close the account. The woman she talked to, said that that was no problem, got all the security confirmation to close the account and told her to cut up the card and mail it in along with a written request confirming the phone conversation. You know where this is going, don't you? Lo and behold she gets a statement which she obviously ignored because the account is closed, right?! Apparently not, they went ahead and assessed their annual membership fee and then started charges late pay fees. By the thhe time we figure out wat is what, they are claiming she owes almost $150. So she calls and is told the account couldn't be closed because it should be in writing , we already did that I believe, but, i went ahead and wrote a nice letter requesting the account be closed, because she was told that would take care of it, the balance erased and the account would be closed. Wrong!!!!! :doh:We get a letter stating that the account needs to be closed by talking to a representative :confused07::confused07:. So I call Brenda, who is visiting her mother and tell her what they said, she calls them, explains the whole thing for the, what, fifth time and is told accounts can only be closed in writing :bang head::bang head: I think we've been there??? She talked to them again last night and was told she did not notify them to close the account in a timely manner (I guess the day you pay of the balance is not timely enough) and therefore acquired the annual fee, of course they won't close the account with an open balance either. I got three words: WTF?????
