  1. I figure since I have changed all the fluids, some more than once (I am replacing the 5wt fork oil with 10wt it feels too hanky) I might as well change the oil in the final drive. SO... What do I use (any preferred brand) How much is in there Is there any write up available Thanks!
  2. The Night Nurse...the more you think about this one, the funnier it gets. Short & sweet, A very tired nurse walks into a bank, totally exhausted after an18-hour shift. Preparing to write a check, she pulls a rectal thermometer out of her purse and tries to write with it. When she realizes her mistake, she looks at the flabbergasted teller, and without missing a beat, she says: 'Well, that's great....that's just great ..........some a***ole's got my pen!:shock3:
  3. A friend and I are planning a spring trip to Talcott WV down RT 16 from the Ohio River. I am trying to avoid Summerville and Gauley Bridge. Gauley Bridge has 750 resisdents. They write more speeding tickets than anywhere in the state or WV. They write MORE than the state capitol city. I would be coming from the Cleveland Ohio area and want to avoid these spots. Any suggestions from our WV brothers? I want to take 16 down so I can see the folks and turn off before the traps. 16 is also just a great road. Thanks, Geo
  4. Got to thinking today of all the events that go on...............curious to see how many have attended any or all of them.......Hope I get them all in, I am just talking about the big ones....the ones listed are the only ones I could find reference to and only had room for 10. You can vote on all that you have been to, and if you know of any others you can write in your vote...................:cool10:
  5. I picked up my new Flanders bars today. The task of swapping them over begins this weekend. Shouldnt be too bad especially with the write up on here.
  6. SO, here's the new issue. When my '87 is hot I get a gear clashing / crunch from the lower left as I am sitting on the machine when I hit the start button. This happens one out of four starts or so. Is this the starter clutch? The starter seems to be engaging and disengaging fine but the crunch is bad when it happens I saw the write up on starter clutches and it looks ugly so I want to attempt to confirm before popping covers off the engine. All the best! -Jim
  7. Read the following explanation before looking at the picture! Most Syrians struggle to even read Arabic, much less have a clue about reading English. So, how do a group of Syrian protest leaders create the most impact with their signs by having the standard 'Death To Americans' (etc..) slogans printed in English? Answer: They simply hire an English-speaking civilian to translate and write their statements into English. However, in this case, they were unaware that the 'civilian' insurance company employee hired for the job was a retired USNavy Chief! Obviously, the results were PRICELESS! This picture is not doctored.
  8. Time to install a new front tire! Where is the best deal now for Avon Cobra's? Also plan on chaning the fork oil and adjusting the steering Head bearings. Could use some input there! This is the only write up I could find for the procedure: http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002013&id=349 Thinking about putting a zerk fitting in the steering head yoke area? Any thoughts on that? I know there was a how to write up but cannot find it?! What else should I be doing while I have this all apart? THANKS ALL!!
  9. Hey, Any iPhone users out there? (I don't know how I got along without mine!) I have been using an app called Gas Cubby to keep track of my fuel use and service efforts this season. It can do multiple vehicles and is free, sponsored by Prestone. (There's a paid for verson too with extra fancy features but I wouldn't know about them cheapskate that I am) At the pump, it would probably be quicker to write in a log book like I used to do but when it comes time to crunch the numbers, man its all done for you and you can email it to yourself to print out etc. I like it a lot. Check it out, its pretty cool. Hope this is of interest. Brian H.
  10. This is something I do to all my bikes. It is very simple thing to do and easily installed. If there is enough interest in this I will make a write up and post it with pics.
  11. Was no big deal to pull the wheels off my old Nomad. is there anything I should be aware of? Any little write ups? thnx
  12. Let's hear your best "It's so cold out"..... It's so cold out only guys with names like Al or Ed have time to write their name in the snow...... ought to be good to see some of these answers
  13. I figured, since you did not wanted to read anymore of my "vulgar posts" I write you something nice. NICE NICE NICE NICE NICE ................................................ I thought this would make you smile:bighug:
  14. http://venturerider.org/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif They just about skipped GA Given the omissions of great rides that aren't included in the official publication by the Department of Transportation. I think it would be a good idea if the VentureRiders put out our own diffinative tour guide of all of the great rides all over the country. We have enough members to cover a good part of the world. Each of us could submit write ups of our own favorite rides in our home states, provinces and countries. they could then be compiled into a publication that could be sold through the internet and the proceeds could be used to support the Venturerider.org forum. What do yall think? Is this something that would be suitable to undertake? If so? Would it be suitable to ask for a committe of volunteers to organize? I'll participate on a organizational level. What would it take to develop a form that could be used on the site for the members to be able to use to submit in a uniform format write ups of rides in thier home areas. A form that might include specific information about a particular route such as : Start point, route, points of interest, map reference, Road type, and riding style Mountain twisties, pastural meanduring, challenging or not total miles, estimated ride time suggested dining and lodging brief write up regarding topography, geography, landscape, floral and fauna seasonal information finish point. It was my thought that if all submissions were done in a uniform format they would then be easier to compile into a publication format. The groupings of submissions could be by country, region, state, area of state , local.
  15. Writing the product description for the Royal Star Venture... How much do you suppose they pay the guy to write in a different color every year??
  16. Was it you Don that built this? This group has the biggest write up! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venture_Royale
  17. Good morning, all. My name is Nick Diaz, and I'm new to this board, as I'm buying a 1998 Venture Royale this week. I've enjoyed this site in the past week or so, in anticipation of Venture ownership. I'm 60 years old and have been riding for 38 years now, and look forward to many more on my beautiful white VR. For 35 years my bride and I have been living in Frederick County, MD, where good roads abound. I'm a middle-school mathematics teacher (I know, I know, "How can you stand those middle-school brats?") Answer: Someone has to do it... One of the things I do for fun is write a biweekly column for a local news and commentary webstie known as The Tentacle -- www.thetentacle.com . My topics are either math education or motorcycling; considering this site is not a "motorcycle" website, it's neat how I get a chance to "educate" the nonmotorcycling public, with a "contrarian" point of view. Somehow I find it difficult to write about education at this time of year -- I wonder why... My latest contribution just came out this morning. Go to the following: http://www.thetentacle.com/author.cfm?MyAuthor=52 , then click on "Enjoying What Life Brings on Two Wheels." (While you're at it, click on my brief bio at the top.) 18. Someone very near and dear to your hearts.....that would be me:whistling:...LOL Just scored a "job" writing for Thunder Road Magazine. The main focus of my "job" will be to ride around and write about it. Kinda like Rip from EasyRiders. I will keep ya posted
  19. Got my December issue of 'Rider' and it had a great article in it on the Patriot Guard. Anybody from our group in any on the photos?
  20. Is there any interest here in a newsletter? This would be a newsletter that you would have the option of subscribing to. It would be emailed to the members who subscribe on a monthly, bi-monthly, whatever basis. The big advantage of this will be for those who do not visit and read every post on the forum on a daily basis. It would pull out the highlights or important threads from the forum and also any other relevant info that the author wants to write. It could include information and reminders of upcoming rallies, eat and meets, etc. The possibilities are endless. It would also be available online for anybody who prefers that it NOT be emailed to them. I already have the necessary module installed here for the newsletter feature, it is just something that I have never gotten around to doing. Now here is the next BIG question. Do we have a volunteer who is a good writer who would like to write the newsletter?
  21. If you've ever broken the glass of the headlight on a second gen...then you KNOW how much a new one will run you. Thanks to Eck Nace for this GREAT write up that will save many of us a lot of money in the future.
