  1. Any experience to share on this? I have a 1997 Ford Ranger, short bed (6') truck. I want to move my big VR frompoitnts A to B. Riding it is oot an option. SO, which is better; loading the bike into the bed or towing it with a trailer. Either way, its a 1-man operation. I have a trailer hitch installed, but UHaul could do that. I don't have ramps, either, and sure don't want an 800lb bike falling or tipping over while getting it into the truck-bed. Comments are invited, everyone! Thanks, Richard in AZ.
  2. just wanting some feed back on the camper thing.I'm looking at the bunkhouse, the time out by openroad and the solace by USA trailer. i don't want price to be the only reason i pick one but it is to be considered. the bunkhouse seems to be built a little better perhaps but only has three levaling jacks which is probably enough. when in the open position the camper bottom itself acts as a storage and part of the bed, and than has a room in front of it on the ground. the other two campers have a double fold out bed which makes the camper bottom a dinning room and than has another room in front and its off the ground. they also have 4 levaling jacks. the bunkhouse has a queen and even a king size bed where the Time out has a full and a queen and i called USA trailer and they said theres is also a queen that the print up was a miss print. the solace doesn't offer any trailer brake where the time out does for 469.00 dollars and the bunkhouse offers it for 1225.00 dollars. the price list that I'm looking at is the bunkhouse at $3695.00 the time out at $3795.00 and the solace at $2675.00. i wont bore you all with the standard features but i know some of our members have the bunkhouse and was wondering if anybody had any feed back on the others. thanks ans sorry for the long post.
  3. I just talked to Mary and as you can imagine, she is devastated with Mark's death. As best I can understand what she told me, as I could barely hear her, Mark had complained Thursday of not feeling well and having a back ache. When he went to bed, she gave him some back massage and he went to sleep. When she went to bed later, he was laying across the bed and was blue and had blood coming out of his mouth/nose. He could not be revived and was taken to Wake Forest for an autopsy. It may be awhile before it is known what caused his death, but at this time it is suspected that it may have been an intestinal aneurysm, which is probably one of the most deadly aneurysms. I did tell Mary that she has a whole bunch of folks on VentureRider that really cared for her and Mark and she and her family are in our thoughts and prayers. She said she will call me and give more information as it comes available. RandyA
  4. Planning on building a Harbor Freight, flat bed, trailer this weekend. Have to be at work Sunday go going to use the shop space and welder to put it together. For tongue length...1.5 time the axle length right? So if the width is 40 inches, tongue must be 60 inches. Now is that 60 inches out from the axle or 60 inches out from the front of the bed? Going to install the HF LED kit mentioned on here. Ordered a dog box from the diamond deluxe place. They had a special on a leftover trailer from previous order (damn near 50% off) but strange dimenstions, but I think I can make it work. The way I will mount it, it's 72" long, so will overhang the 48" trailer bed, will be to hang 8 inches off the back and weld angle iron to frame it in (extend the bed) and figure the 16" will be out front where the cooler should go (give a little more tongue weight). This sound about right? The width of the box is 24 inches, with the bed only 40"....so I would love to put the box over to 1 side and use the rest for storage...but I think I need to leave it centered so it pulls better, right? This only gives me 8" on each side for bed...not ideal but can make it work....Was just going to cover the open bed areas with the lightest gauge diamond aluminum I can find...to match the box. Initially the box was going to be temporary, only for the trips where I'd take the 2 dogs...but now thinking I'll leave it on and use for (mostly) waterproof storage on camping runs. Should be able to fit the tent, chairs, mattress etc on each side in the 8 inch areas. I've read numerous posts about how to adjust wheel bearings and trailer wiring...so hopefully good-to-go there.
  5. Took a 924 mile round trip yesterday, picked up an ALMOST NEW (only 3533 miles on an '08) RSV to make mine again. Wanna say howdy and thanks to Jim and his wife and their dog Rowdy, it was great meeting them. Got back at 5 AM this morning! Better to sleep in your own bed! Trailer was almost too short, we had to take the trunk off! But that's why I ALWAYS take my tool bag with me!!
  6. http://www.coj.net/departments/sheriffs-office/news-room/jso-news/bank-robbery-suspect-sought-%282%29.aspx This photo ran on the local news several days ago. Turns out it was a co-worker. This guy used to load our trucks and was always quiet and kept to himself. Not even a disguise! I guess in a plant of about 800 people, someone was bound to recognize him. No, it wasnt me who turned him in either. But i am glad that no one was hurt. A few years back another quiet, unassuming co-worker who minded his own business was arrested for blowing away his wife and her boyfriend after finding them in bed...his bed!!! Sure glad im not quiet. Strange, but not quiet....
  7. I have (access to) a 4x8 tilt bed trailer, It's a bolt together thing and doesn't weigh much. Though I'm currently not in the landscaping business anymore I'm considering dabbling and would need something to carry hand tools, trimmer, blower, maybe even a push mower, etc. With the truck that's no problem, but fuel being what it is and having a full time job I'm wondering if an eight foot long trailer plus tongue would be too long for a bike? I'd have to build a box on it at least 16 inch (preferably 24)high and 24 to 30 inch wide. Depending on how I organize things I could shorten the bed by about a foot. I'm guessing the tongue, measured from the axle, is about 7 feet, so a 4.5 ft wide trailer would still give me the 1.5:1 tongue vs. axle ratio. I know there's folks out there (take that any way you'd like) who pull a coffin for a trailer which theoretically means this should be doable, but I'd still like y'all s opinion.
  8. Her Diary; Tonight I thought my husband was acting weird. We had plans to meet at a nice restaurant for diner. I was shopping with my friends all day, so I thought he was upset that I was late but he made no comment on it. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested we go someplace quiet so we could talk. He agreed but didn't say much. I asked him what was wrong; he said "Nothing". I asked if it was my fault he was upset. He said he wasn't upset and it had nothing to do with me and not to worry about it. On the way home, I told him I love him. He just smiled and kept driving. I can't explain his behaviour...I don't know why he didn't say "I love you too". When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly and watched TV. He seemed distant and distracted. Finaly, I could not bare the silence so I went to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed too but just layed there quietly and fell asleep...I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster! His Diary; My mororcycle won't start...can't figure out why!
  9. Ed came home drunk one night, slid into bed beside his sleeping wife, and fell into a deep slumber. He awoke before the Pearly Gates, where St. Peter said, 'You died in your sleep, Ed.' Ed was stunned. 'I'm dead? No, I can't be! I've got too much to live for. Send me back!' St. Peter said, 'I'm sorry, but there's only one way you can go back, and that is as a chicken.' Ed was devastated, but begged St. Peter to send him to a farm near hishome.... The next thing he knew, he was covered with feathers, clucking and pecking the ground. A rooster strolled past. 'So, you're the new hen, huh? How's your first day here?' 'Not bad,' replied Ed the hen, 'but I have this strange feeling inside. Like I'm gonna explode!' 'You're ovulating,' explained the rooster. 'Don't tell me you've never laid an egg before?' 'Never,' said Ed. 'Well, just relax and let it happen,' says the rooster. 'It's no big deal.' He did, and a few uncomfortable seconds later, out popped an egg! He was overcome with emotion as he experienced motherhood. He soon laid another egg -- his joy was overwhelming. As he was about to lay his third egg, he felt a smack on the back of his head, and heard..... "Ed, wake up! You s**t the bed!" Getting OLD just ain't what they said it would be!

  11. I got a truck with a 6 ft bed. Was thinking if I needed to haul one of these beasts it has about a 7 ft footprint. If I took a 8 ft 3/4 inch sheet of plywood and cut it to fit inside of bed could I load one of these things on it with the plywood sticking out over the tailgate without busting gate? Plan to fasten winch to front of plywood. Maybe run a band of 2x4s around perimeter of plywood and screw them down good?? I need sleep!!!

    Koko

One of my best friends died today. Her name Was Koko. That was short for Kokopelli. She was a mini Schnauzer and one of the finest dogs I ever met. She turned 16 years old this year. She has been having some issues with her health that have magnified the last few weeks. Today she lost the use of her right rear leg. She has been having trouble getting around and having seizures. She was in pain when we layed her in her bed. The time had come for my friend to leave us for a better place. Char, Buddy and I will really miss you Koko. You were a great dog.
  13. After being married for 50 years, I took a careful look at my wife one day and said... "Fifty years ago we had a cheap house, a junk car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10 inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep every night with a hot 18 year old girl. Now...I have a $500,000.00 home, a $35,000.00 car, a nice big bed and a large screen TV. But, I'm sleeping with a 68 year old woman. It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things." My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me; "Go out and find a hot 18 year old girl. And I would make sure that you would once again be living in a cheap house, driving a junk car, sleeping on a sofa and watching a 10" TV." Aren't older women Great! They realy know how to solve and old guy's Problems!
  14. Last night I had a hard time falling asleep. No idea why. And I was up a few times during the night which is also not normal for me. This morning I got woke up early feeling really cold and clammy. While lying in that half awake state trying to figure out just what was going on, is when I noticed that everything around me was soaked. The sheets, blanket, pillow, everything. So now I am trying to figure out if I just had night sweats or heaven forbid, did I wet the bed..... Well that thought got me out of the half awake state and into a get the heck out of the bed quick state and head for the shower. But wait no that would be a bad idea since I still need to strip all up the bedding and get it down in the wash. I should do that BEFORE I take a shower. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I am not a morning person, just because my body is up and moving does not mean that my brain is up and/or functioning. So I run all of the bedding down to the basement and toss the first load into the wash machine (with no phones included,,,,,sorry:stickpoke:) well now the wash machine is filling so I certainly do not want to get in the shower with the hot water turning on and off. So I grab some cleaning stuff to clean up the mattress. First I dried if off as best I could with some towels and took those down to the basement. when I got back up stairs and was about to start scrubbing the mattress, its like WTF it is all wet again. so I grab some more towels and dry it off again. and this time just start to clean it right away. WTF again there is a little squirt of liquid that shoots up out of the mattress toward the headboard. That is when it finally dawns on me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, tonight I get to go shopping for a new king size waterbed mattress to replace this 34 year old one....... It sure is a good thing that Erika is still not home with her bum foot yet. We would have been accusing each other of wetting the bed, and that old water on her bum foot would have been really bad news.
  15. .......talking to you on my iPad--how cool
  16. This is another one of those stupid idiot threads. I was having a great weekend in the Chattanooga area with Lady Linda and on the way back north on I-75 near Sweetwater, TN, while running with traffic at about 75mph, a pickup truck with a full size baby bed lost his load. I was the first car behind him and fortunately not too close. Then, all of a sudden, this baby bed just raises up and the wind just flipped it every way. I hit my brakes without trying to slow too quickly, as I had an 18 wheel truck behind me. With moving over to the shoulder about a half lane, I was able to miss it. With the truck behind us, I was not able to see very much on what went on behind him. The guy in the pickup did slow and pull to the shoulder and when I went by him, I blew my horn at him. I don't know if he did back up or what. The interesting thing is with the temperature being about 70 degrees, I was really wishing we were on the bike. But, after that event, I was kinda glad we were in the car. It never ceases to amaze me at how many people will throw something in the bed of a pickup and take off down the highway without any kind of tie downs in place. I just hope that this idiot did not cause a crash behind us because there was a lot of traffic. RandyA

  18. Billy Bob had been having terrible problems sleeping and his cousin Jim Bob told him that it was all in his head. So Billy Bob went to a psychologist. The Dr. asked Billy Bob what the problem was and Billy Bob told him that he just could"nt get any sleep. When asked why he replied, there is someone under my bed and when I get under the bed to see who, then there is someone on top of the bed, and this goes on all night long. The Dr. said that he could cure Billy Bob but he would have to come back 3 times a week for a year. Billy Bob ask what each visit would cost and the Dr. said $100.00 a visit. Billy Bob never went back and the Dr. saw him on the street about a year later and ask him why he never came back. Billy Bob said that he had been cured. The Dr. asked who had cured him and Billy Bob said that his cousin, Jim Bob had cured him. The Dr. asked how and Billy Bob said that he had cut the legs off of his bed.

  20. I'm thankful for many things. I could write a book here about all that I have to be thankful for but I'll spare you all because to be honest, much of it would be the same things that you are all thankful for. So, to keep it relevant to VentureRider.org, I'll just say that I'm thankful to each and every single one of you. Even you troublemakers who may not see things 100% the same way that I do, you are still an important and loved part of the family here and if we all agreed on everything, it would get pretty mundane around here. So here's wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope you all get to eat so much that you have to be rolled to bed. Let's also remember those in the world who have little to eat and say a special prayer for them and for our men and women in uniform who are serving and away from their families to make this day possible for all of us.
