  1. Goose, I have my carbs off, disassembled and soaking in Pine-Sol. Looking for some advise on checking/setting the float level. I read the write up that you did on setting the float level but I'm still not sure on exactly where on the floats to take the measurement. It looks to me that the shop manual shows the measurement being taken at about the middle of the float but every photo I've seen on here of someone taking the measurement looks like they are doing it close to the hinge. Also any chance you could let me know if my mixture screws are in range? Here is what I got. #1 was at 2.5 turns #2 ------- 2 turns #3 ------- 3.25 turns #4 ------- 2 turns Thanks, Deane
  2. The carbs are off, disassembled and soaking in Pine-Sol. They were actually quite clean inside. Two pilot jets had just a slight residue starting to clog them up, the needle valves and seats are like new, main jets also like new, all diaphragms are good (one was not seated correctly at the grove in the cap but I'll fix that on install). I did find two things missing. One of the jet needles was missing a washer and one coasting enrichment assembly was missing the spring. So I need to locate one of those teeny tiny washers and one spring. I read the write up that V7Goose did on setting the float level but I'm still not sure on exactly where on the floats to take the measurement. It looks to me that the shop manual shows the measurement being taken at about the middle of the float but every photo I've seen on here of someone taking the measurement looks like they are doing it close to the hinge. Maybe I'll just leave them alone since the needle valves and seats were installed new two years ago at a dealer and they must have set the floats at that time. Hopefully my dealer will have a washer for the jet needle and a spring for the coaster enrichment assembly so I can put this baby back together tomorrow. The weather up here in NY is getting nice and I need to ride....
  3. Thanks for the tip. I started working on dirt bikes when I was 14 and now have 35yrs working on all sorts. I just have not had the opportunity yet to work on the Venture carbs. I did some work on my 1st gen carbs but not a full removal and disassemble. What I like working on most is aircraft carbs.
  4. My "new to me" 05 RS Midnight Venture would not run off choke when I picked it up a month ago. After draining the old gas, new plugs and running a few tanks with seafoam through it it will now run off choke once fully warmed up. However it's still not right. Takes a long time before choke can be full off, idle is rough, can hear it missing and lacks power right off idle. Once rpm's come up a little it screams. Today I decided to pull the carbs for cleaning. Is there a write up on adjusting the floats (they all seem to be too high) and the mixture screws (they were set from 1.5 to 3.25 turns)? Also anyone have any tips on separating the carbs to make it easier to disassemble for cleaning? Thanks
  5. Hey BuddyRich, Are you still making these cable? If so is the above info on payment still valid? I just picked up an 05 Midnight Venture and want to add a GPS and cell phone capability. Can you explain what your cable is for and how about some recommendations on a good GPS for motorcycle use. Thanks
  6. Has anyone tried these out yet? http://www.ebay.com/itm/230736981254?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/230736981258?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  7. Craig, I'll be driving down to Kentucky to pick up my new 05 Midnight Venture this Sunday or Monday. My route will take me just north of Reading PA. I could make a quick detour. Will you be around Sunday?
  8. I looked at a wing but would need to lower it also.:rotf:
  9. I'd love to take you up on that. I also fly so a quick flight down to PA is doable whenever the weather is nice. What's the nearest small airport to you? I'm 5'8" so I hope just changing the seat will do it.
  10. I'm back and looking to buy a Royal Star Venture. I've owned an 83, 86, and 89 Venture Royale. I was not able to flat foot these bikes but never had an issue until I had to have major back surgery (thank you Ms. drunk driver ). I sold my 89 after I almost dropped it when my foot slipped at a red light and the back pain it caused was almost too much to handle. I'm ready now to get back on one but not unless I can flat foot it. Yesterday I tried out a Royal Star Venture, Newer Goldwing, Kawasaki, and a Harley (all touring bikes). The only one I could comfortable flatfoot was the Harley and of course it was the most expensive. I really have my heart set on a Royal Star Venture. Is there a safe, logical way to lower these bikes that won't ruin the handling? Is there an aftermarket comfortable seat that may help? Thanks for any advice.
  11. I just purchased an 89 Venture Royale. This is now my fourth Venture Royale so I do have some experience maintaining these bikes. However this is the 1st time I have had any problems with the computer monitor system. I researched this forum and found info on resoldering the boards and checking the fuses. My monitor is completely dead. Nothing shows on the screen at all. I removed the monitor last night. All the connections were clean and tight. The boards look good with no obvious signs of anything wrong with them. All fuses are ok with the mounting tangs in good shape and tight. Everything else electrical on this bike works fine. The only problem I have is the computer monitor is dead. Does anyone know what readings I should get on the pins in the connectors to the monitor? What the pinouts are for these connectors? Anything else I can check to figure out if it's the computer monitor or something else in the wiring? Anyone have a spare I can borrow to try or buy? Thanks in advance for any help.
