  1. The old fuse block ain't doin' it anymore. Aside from the corrosion that keeps coming back time after time, yesterday one of the fuse holders broke off, so the fuse won't be held now. Luckily, it was the ACC fuse!! Who's got a good setup on their ride?? I'd like to move over to the newer auto fuses. I've tried a few different fuse blocks, but can't find one that is small enough to fit under the faux cover. Any ideas, manufacturers, parts stores???
  2. Was on trip to Myrtle Beach, had a short in the stabil horn and the radio went out? Well the head works, can change channels, bands, turn up volume, turn on and off the CB and what ever but no sound comes out of the speakers or the head sets? Have checked fuses? Any suggestions?
  3. Came across this unit that distributes power. Looks interesting and replaces fuses. http://www.motorcycleinnovations.ca/Rowe_PDM60_p/pdm60.htm
  4. Here is my dilemma. Pulling out of the drive this morning my OEM radio went dead, no power to it. Not even the little green lite that shows it has power. I have checked the fuses in the main fuse box, the ground to frame, cant figure out where it lost connectivity. I pulled out my electrical schematic and it shows two fuses for radio, one is a 1amp the other is a 4amp, I guess thats what it means, its labeled 1A & 4A. One is on a blue wire the other a red/blue. Anyone know where I can find these 2 fuses..............I am stumped. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with this radio. The CB powers on but cant hear it because no power to amp or radio..................HELP!!!! I have also checked the connectors to radio, made sure they were clean and used dielectric grease on them.
  5. I have the left front lower off, checking the fuses ( there good) what's the black box above the fuses? with two sets of wiring coming out?
  6. I replaced that mess that used to be my fuse box on the 83. It sure was easy, the kit is well put together and very easy to install with Skydoc's instructions........... I couldnt wait to turn the key on and see the electrical system come back to life...............nothing happened, I checked all the wiring again, did exactly as he stated in the instructions...........everything is right. Thought maybe the battery was dead so I hooked the charger up to it and then tried the key again...........nothing. Stood there scratching my head, then the light went on...........You gotta put fuses in it before it will work.:bang head:............man did I feel like a total idiot..........gotta pick up the fuses today on the way home from work.
  7. Hello everyone this is my first time to post. A big thanks to Freebird for your help. I just purchased a 1993 Yamaha Venture Royal and the turn signals are not working. They are not getting power to them and all the fuses are good. Can anyone help. Thanks
  8. I had a friend give me a 1988 venture royal. It hasnt ran in a couple of years, after some good cleaning and fresh gas and oil i have it fired up and running. I am having a problem with the battery draining down and going dead over night. and all light work except the head light. the bulb is good just not getting any power to it. checked the high low beam switch and not getting any power there either. Ive chexked all the fuses i can find and they are all fine. Im not sure if the two problems i have are related or not. Any helpful hints on where to look next would be great.. thanks for reading my post.
  9. Okay, I was working on the new 86 and notice the horns not working. Okay simple answer is that the fuse is blown. I open the fuse box but no horn fuse there. I find an auxiliary fuse box with 5 and 10 blade fuses but no horn fuse there either. One of the 10 amp fuses was blown so thats taken care of but................ So i still am not sure where to find it. the schematic shows there is one, I've been on the different tech sections i just can't find any info on this location. i hope its not just out obvious someplace that I'm missing. Does anyone know where it is?????
  10. Hello everybody. I've just bought a 1986 venture and i need to know what the five fuses on top of the battery are for and what size they are. There's nothing marked on the plastic cover or on the owners manual. I'm going to replace the old glass fuses with new atc ones Tks. Gus....
  11. My 06 RSV has 12.8V / 30W auxillary bulbs in it now and I would like something brighter. Before I start to experiment and blow fuses, how high can I go on the Watts before I start to blow fuses? On my last bike I actually had 40W landscaping lights and they worked well. They are the exact same bulb size as what is in there now. I am not really interested in spending a ton of money on the LEDs and I would like the lights to still match the headlight. Thanks Mongo

Just bought a 2000 Royal Star Venture. Everything works like a dream. Only issue that I seem to have is that the CB will not come on. When I push the CB button, nothing happens. Anything jump out that I might need to check first before I bring it to the dealer? Does the CB have separate fuses? Thanks, Jason
  13. all of a sudden , no audio output either from the speakers or the headset from any source, GPS, radio, CD intercom, anything. I have a mike mute installed have worked for many miles. I have checked all the fuses I can find. all the electronics work, it's like the amperfier isn't working,, any suggestions
  14. Got bored and took a few aircraft circuit breakers to the SS bike yesterday now I have NO glass fuses on my bike any more. Take a look and tell me what you think. Jeff
  15. I had asked yesterday what the back up fuse work for. Well I finally followed it through the wiring diagram. You will all be happy to know it fuses the audio and cb system. Sure enough without it, no radio or cb. Bob
  16. Recently acquired this bike (83 model) and have only ridden for about a week. I noted today that the cruise control will not engage. Could not find anything wrong with the fuses. I have not troubleshot beyond that. Any suggestions, or do I need to take it to a Yamaha tech?
  17. I installed a cigarette lighter on my 93 Royale. I inserted an inline fuse between it and the battery connection and used a 30amp mini fuse. Every once in a while it pops the fuse, some times two fuses in a row and then maybe 4 or 5 trips before it blows another fuse. ANy Ideas on how to keep from blowin fuses? Thanks BIG HACK
  18. 2006 Midnight RSV gave me a bit of a "hello" wake up call waaaay back in the boonies ealier today.. wow.. I was riding with a new rider and he decided to pull over for gas (smaller bike) and I had a quick glance down to see how my levels were holding, a good half tank.. When I turned around to rejoin him at the gas station (it was a surprise stop).. I looked down and huh.. no indications on the instrument panel.. Oh oh.. No turns signals.. wow.. As he was fueling, I did a quick check of what was and wasn't working or showing up on the panel.. Turn signals not working or indication, front - rear brake pedals not working the brake light. High beam light and indicator working, Cruise Control lights working.. But no Neutral light indicator, no clock, odo or speedo info showing up there at all.. it's a blank .. wow.. If you recall I had a miserable time with this bike last summer with the steering locks scissoring my wires to heck.. I wonder if that happened again when I did my u-turn just then.. Huh.. but nothing is down there or near there.. Fuses.. Ok, pull off left panel, and yup. 10A Signal Fuse is blown.. wow.. One fuse, and all of those things won't work on your bike.. I thought that wow.. what a silly way to set things up.. But think about it.. You'd NEVER know your brake lights weren't working.. you 'might' notice your signal lights not indicating on your dash... but you WILL notice if your fuel, speed and odo were missing from the panel.. Mayhaps some brainiac at Yamaha thought this one up as a "hey dopey, your fuse is out" method, or someone accidentally wired it this way and hey look, it made sense.. Now, because of all those problems I had last year, blowing fuses all the time, I had a good stash of fuses with me... but no 10A.. lol... Go figure.. of all the fuses, not the one I needed.. Happily the gas station gave me a couple to make sure I got home OK.. Quick steering stop to steering stop tests and no probs.. NO idea why that fuse blew.. Apart from wiring in a 4W LED driving lights in a week ago.. nothing's changed.. So far the system is working well but man.. what a "oh oh" cold feeling for a second out in the middle of nowhere... time to get some more 10A fuses... just in case.. And how was YOUR day?
  19. Will it hurt anything to take the carb heater fuses out? Something is draining my new (6 months old) battery. A friend who had a YAMAHA 1100 said his was doing the same thing and he traced it to the carb heaters. He took the fuses out and all was well afterwards.
  20. What are some of the LITTLE things you have added to your bike that most people might not have thought of...either ornamental or practical? For example, I have the License plate grifter plate: http://www.bikesax.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ACCGRIFT01&Category_Code=ACC-ESS This little gem locks and can keep your paper work...extra keys, a small flash light, fuses...and best of all, it locks. It is not really stealth...but you do need to know what you are looking for. Anyone else? Wally
  21. Two questions: One! after riding through a downpour at night my headlight quit. I replaced the fuse and saw a "flash" when I turned the ignition on. Headlight still worked on low beam but high beam is dim and brings on the headlight warning light and the CM blinks, the fuse is fine. Could this just be the bulb being bad (it looks OK)? Two! Trying to find a possible bad contact for the above I pulled the headlight, apparently the PO had a "accesory" hooked into a tan #10 wire under the panel. the accesory wire wasn't capped or taped of when he cut it, and it hit the headlight frame. Nothing works!!, All fuses in the fuse panel are OK, I know there should be some other fuse somewhere, but I can't find it. Do I need to pull the entire fairing? Do I need to look for something else? Oh, that was bright! Found that one on top of the battery! For some reason I thought it was down under the fairing! so that answers that, next question though is: Where do I get a new one??
  22. OK folks...a new bike and a new set of problems. I have 2005 RSV and when I turn on 'Cruise' control switch all lights go on at first, then 'set' and 'rev' go out like it is supposed to. When I try to set the speed then both the 'set' and 'rev' come on and blink 5 times together. About 30 sec later, they repeat and this will continue all day. Pushing 'set' or 'rev' or 'cancel' does nothing. I have checked main fuses under left cover below seat, clutch switch, and both brake switches. I have taken apart the handle bar cruise switches and sprayed with contact cleaner, as well as WD-40 so that switch rocks correctly. Any ideas before I start to tear this thing apart? PO says it worked fine last time used. I intend to take outer fairing off, as well as both lowers, and check/clean all connections and use dielectric grease, and check vacuumn lines, and also more fuses under right lower cowling (is this correct?) Any and all ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  23. OK I need an electrician to help me out here. Half the house is out of power. I already changed the main fuses for the house. There's two of them and their the long round solid ones. I can get pics if you guys need them to understand what I'm talking about. The problem seems to be in one of the fuses. Everytime I try changing it, it pops. First time it did it was a bit of a shock to me. I was hoping that it would be ok. I have to go around and make sure I unplugged everything in those rooms. That's gonna take a bit since I have to crawl under the bed in the spare room with a flashlight and get the stuff out under it to get to the outlet. I've gotten most of the stuff unplugged. I need to know what else to do. Can the socket for the fuse go bad? If so I can get another one, I think. I'll check the local places for that stuff. Actually I'll add the pics of what the fuses look like while I'm doing this now. The first one is one of the main fuses it has two. The second is one of the fuse type that keeps blowing on me. It's a 20amp. Oh I already tried picking Riderdukes brain. He's gonna think a bit more on this for me too. Thanks guys I appreciate this. Margaret
  24. I just purchased an 89 Venture Royale. This is now my fourth Venture Royale so I do have some experience maintaining these bikes. However this is the 1st time I have had any problems with the computer monitor system. I researched this forum and found info on resoldering the boards and checking the fuses. My monitor is completely dead. Nothing shows on the screen at all. I removed the monitor last night. All the connections were clean and tight. The boards look good with no obvious signs of anything wrong with them. All fuses are ok with the mounting tangs in good shape and tight. Everything else electrical on this bike works fine. The only problem I have is the computer monitor is dead. Does anyone know what readings I should get on the pins in the connectors to the monitor? What the pinouts are for these connectors? Anything else I can check to figure out if it's the computer monitor or something else in the wiring? Anyone have a spare I can borrow to try or buy? Thanks in advance for any help.
  25. Just wanted to thank the members of the forum and the moderators. I've had my 03 RSV for a week, have received plenty of great information here and gladly paid my dues. This bike had been popping headlight fuses almost daily. I had started taking the normal diagnostic paths of disabling external devices, tracing power leads for accessories, still the popping fuses. Carrying an allen key and box of fuses in my pocket was the norm. Before going down the path of a more detailed diagnoses or takign it to the dealer, I decided to do a search on "headlight" here and stumbled across a problem that seems to plague many who have the added passing lamp kit; pinched wires in the steering head stop and that is my problem! Repired the connection, wire tied it back and problem solved. Again, thank you all for your contributions to the site. Without, I may have spent many more hours and dollars on this one. Andrew
