  1. On the way home from the last Ga M&E someone (I don't remember who) on a 2nd Gen had a LED bar under the trunk. as I recall it consisted of a double row of LED's, half the bar would light up as the turn signal, and the brake part would flash before becoming steady. don't recall if it had a running light feature, but it was a bright little sucker! I've been looking on line trying to find it but so far no luck. If you own one, or know which one I'm talking about, please let me know. Thanks.
  2. Just put my 2005 RSTD in the shop for major maintenance (valve adjustment, plugs, etc, etc). I have a question: the maintenance schedule says to replace brake lines every two years. WHY??? I have had bikes most of my life, and I do not recall ever seeing anything in routine maintenance about replacing brake lines/hoses. As always, any help is appreciated.
  3. Here is the Honda Website you can go to and enter your VIN to see if the recall specifically affects your wing https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/SEO/MotorcycleRecall.asp?recallStatus=NO+VIN&recallId1=NO+RECALL+IDS
  4. Hey Wingers, just to give you heads up for GW recall. Check out this article: 126,000 Honda Goldwing motorcycles recalled for brake problems Dec 7, 2011 1:45 PM Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall alert for approximately 126,000 Goldwing motorcycles. The company has identified an issue with the motorbikes' secondary brake master cylinders that may cause the rear brakes to drag, increasing the risk of a collision. Riding a motorcycle with a stuck rear brake may also generate enough heat to cause a fire. According to Honda, the brake issue affects GL1800 Goldwing motorcycles of the 2001 through 2010 and 2012 model years. In January, the company expects to being notifying affected Goldwing owners to bring their motorcycles to Honda dealers. Mechanics there will inspect and, if necessary, replace the secondary master cylinder free of charge. For more information on the recall, which Honda has identified as S03, consumers can call Honda customer service (toll-free: 866-784-1870) or visit the NHTSA website: http://www.SaferCar.gov. Recall: 2001-10, 2012 Honda GL1800 Goldwing motorcycles - Rear Brakes Campaign ID #: 11V567000 [NHTSA] Honda recalling over 125,000 Goldwing motorcycles [AutoBlog] —Paul Eng Good Luck.
  5. Awhile back I read a post on a recall for HD baggers. It was a brake light switch. As it turns out mine is one that needs the recall. Along with all the talk on that subject I remembered that somebody mentioned that the goldwings had a similar recall. I called my buddy today and told him about the wing recall. He called me about 15 minutes later after checking on his bike. Turns out his wing needs to be checked over as well. So a BIG thanks to this site for helping others out..........

  9. if you know some one with this year and make please tell them dont want anyone getting hurt no matter what they ride. DETROIT (AP) - Harley-Davidson Inc. is recalling about 308,000 motorcycles to fix a switch problem that can cause failure of the brake lights and possibly even the rear brakes themselves. The company said in documents filed last week with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that brake light switches can be exposed to too much heat from the exhaust system. The heat can cause the brake lights to fail, and the problem also can cause fluid leaks and the loss of rear brakes, the documents said. The problem affects Touring, CVO Touring and Trike motorcycles from the 2009 through 2012 model years. They were built between June 6, 2008 and Sept. 16, 2011. Harley says it will notify owners of the recall. Dealers will install a rear brake light switch kit free of charge. The recall affects about 251,000 motorcycles in the U.S. alone, with the balance in other countries. Harley said it noticed the problem in June of 2010 when it got a report of a Trike model motorcycle that lost its rear brakes due to the problem. The company began investigating, and in July of 2010, it sent investigators to a dealership in Louisiana to inspect another bike that was involved in a crash. Harley has not determined yet if the problem caused the Louisiana crash, which injured one person, company spokeswoman Maripat Blankenheim said Monday. She did not know how seriously the person was hurt, but said Harley is not aware of any other crashes or injuries. Harley said in the documents that there have been no more reports of the problem occurring since July of 2010. The company also said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it expects the recall to cost $10 million to $12 million, which will be charged as an expense in the fourth quarter. Shares of Harley-Davidson rose $1.22, or 3.2 percent, to $38.82 in afternoon trading Monday. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. 10. Apparently there is a site where a guy can enter the VIN of his GL and it will provide info about warranty and or recall work done to the bike..yes/no?? Anyone have a link to this?
  11. Seems like a lot of Venture/Tour deluxe riders also own a FJR... Thought I would share this with you..... This has been know as "the spider bite" Also there is one coming for the 2011 FJR Just got this notice................ Intent to Recall 2006~2009 FJR13A/AE Models Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 2006~2009 FJR13A/AE model motorcycles. In affected motorcycles, the ground joint connector of the wire harness could overheat and become deformed, possibly causing an intermittent ground wire connection. If the electrical system is not properly grounded, the ignition system and/or other electrical components could malfunction, which could cause the engine to stall. If this happens while the motorcycle is being ridden, there could be a crash resulting in injury or death. Yamaha intends to recall these motorcycles for a modification of the electrical system. A Technical Bulletin with all necessary information will be provided in the near future. Until then, please suspend sale of any 2006~2009 FJR13A/AE motorcycles in your inventory. As with all safety recall campaigns, Yamaha will be notifying all registered owners of affected units by mail. Will have more details as they make them available.
  12. ----in one of my work benches. I was looking for something and re-discovered this thing. I think it is a voltage regulator.?.?. Many, many, many (those are to explain my memory loss) years ago my '84 Venture Royale stopped charging. As I recall, I first changed the voltage regulator (cheap way out if it worked), but that did not fix it. I replaced the stator and it was like brand new. This thing has followed me around from Southern California to Michigan to Indianapolis. I do not know if it is the replacement I bought or if it's the one off of my VR. My guess is that it is the original from the VR. I do know it will not fit anywhere on my GL 1800. Here's the deal--- if you can identify it and have a need for it (or just want it), you can have it for the shipping cost. I would probably try to send it parcel post. No guarentee, but as I can best recall, it was working fine and I would not have kept it if I did not think it was O.K.
  13. Hi guys.. I'm not sure if it's because it's still cold or what but when engaging my cruise control, it will stay on but for only a few seconds and then dis-engage.. not hitting any bumps or birds to switch it off.. I remember reading somewhere that there may be cables that might be slopping or switches being made that can cause that.. Does anyone recall what where and how to adjust and / or check for this? At 70 mph in 5th gear, for example, would a tall wide windscreen and heavy winds be enough to cause the bike to do that? Cheers
  14. Just bought my 2007 RSTD this past weekend with 2200 miles and factory warranty till March 2013. I trailered her home and then had to take it straight in to the local dealer for a recall. Something about the heads needing to have the torque checked? Is anyone aware of any other recall issues with the 2007 RSTD?

  22. How do I find Pin Wall Cycle Parts? Does anyone know the E-mail address or Web Site? I'm looking for a C B Antenna for a "99 RSV. Mine broke off. Also, I know that these antennas were a recall item, but our local Yamaha Shop says that the recall only applied to the first 2 years in service. Any comments on their reply?
  23. Just a little FYI here. This information came up in a truck fire that we are working on. Since a few folks here shop at Harbor Freight occassionly, Thought I would pass it on for those who are/were not aware of this recall. September 5, 2007 California auto parts seller Harbor Freight Tools will recall as many as 295,000 sets of automobile fuses manufactured in China because they could malfunction and cause electrical fires. Harbor Freight reported plans for the recall of Chinese made fuses to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration August 10. Harbor Freight told the federal safety agency that it is aware of property damage caused by the fuses but does not know of any injuries. The decision to recall the fuses is a result of four customer complaints "in a very short period of time" according to the company as well as concerns raised with Harbor Freight by General Motors Corp. Last month, GM sent an internal bulletin to dealersdiscouraging them from using the Harbor Freight fuses and reminding dealers that the fuses are not GM parts. NHTSA has also received two complaints from consumers about the Harbor Freight fuses. Harbor Freight Tools had sought to limit public disclosure of the fuse recall by marking its four page letter to NHTSA as a confidential communication. The auto parts company asked the safety regulators to limit disclosure of the defect report from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. If successful, this tactic would have prevented consumers from knowing they had potentially hazardous fuses in their cars The fuses are supposed to be 5-30 amps but may have been made with the wrong amperages and that can lead to damage to a vehicle's electrical system. Harbor Freight has now stopped selling the fuses. Between August 2005 and August 2007, Harbor Freight sold 295,000 fuse sets containing 120 fuses which means as many as 35 million fuses could be involved. The fuse sets sold for between $3 and $10. The company plans to notify anyone who purchased the fuses from the company's Web site, as well as mail-order customers, and will post recall notices in retail . It will give customers a $5 gift certificate for returning the items, in addition to a refund.
