  1. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kTQ6wZlivo]YouTube - Goldwing Drag Racing[/ame] I really think if the riders had some real racing under their belts the times would have been a little better, but the venture did preaty good for a 500 cc difference.
  2. Just bought a 1985 gold wing aspencade 1200 and I'm thinking I may need a new battery? There are times where it will turn over as if the battery has very little power left. Then there are times where it turns over like it's saying "oh this is nothing" doesn't matter if I'm starting it for the first time that day or from after riding awhile. We (father) and me checked the charging system and it is charging at about 13.8-14.4 @2800 cruising speed. My grandfather ADC recommended to put a extra ground cable on the starter to the block to help ground the starter. Is there anything else I should check?
  3. Has anyone checked out the new wing? 2013 goldwing f6b! Looks nice!
  4. I dropped my bike in my driveway and blew out a disc in my back trying to pick it up. Been in bed for ten days now. I am 61 and live with a few disabities... 4 bad back disc , 5 right shoulder operation and 2 knee. I am heathy .. just broken. I have watched " who to pick up your bike " on YOUTUBE and now see I did everything wrong. That is not my question.... somewhere on the forum I THINK I read if you trike a Venture there is now a "reverse kit" ???? If I can not get "reverse" I am going to have to sell and think about a Goldwing trike. I have no problem with getting a Goldwing but it would be cheaper if I could trike my Venture. I like my venture for it's stlying and dependability . Any information would be nice thank you Cb
  5. Today I went by the Katy Yamaha Dealership. If anyone that is interested that lives close by, they are having Demo Day tomorrow13. 8-5 I beleive. Hot Dogs and Drinks. They have 8 or so Trikes there. Haleys, Victory, Stratliner, Goldwing and a couple of others that you can drive. Just thought to let all Houstonians know. Hal
  6. I have been trying to help a friend that has had a starter problem and up to now, it has been related to blowing the starter solenoid like the engine is locked up like hydrolock. This is a 96 1500. Well, now it is worse. We pulled starter earlier and cleaned it and he just finished a 3,400 mile trip. He was at the Harley drags as part of CMA support and when he tried to start his bike it made a loud crunch and now the starter freewheels. I pulled the starter out and as you can see from the gears, it don't look so good. Anybody have any suggestions? This can be mover to the Goldwing section after it has been seen. RandyA
  7. :)I have a '82 Goldwing Interstate 1100 with a Voyager conversion Kit on it ..which I really enjoy..I also have a "89 Venture Royale 1300..thinking about switching the Voyager to the Yamaha...any pros or cons to this....just looking for input...Thanx
  8. I am just curious as to how you guys rank the Venture against the Goldwing? I personally like my Venture better then the Wing and the biggest reason is i think the Venture is a more comfortable bike. There are things that the Goldwing has that i wish my Venture had like Reverse and fuel injection being the two main ones but i think the Venture has more comfy seats and i like the floorboards way better then the pegs and upright seating position that the Goldwing has. It actually feels very vintage and outdated to me when i sit on one and ride it. I am basically just talking about comfort here, forget the looks, price difference, fuel injection, and reverse etc. If the Wing and the Venture were the same price and you wanted a nice comfortable touring bike based on the smoothness of the ride and the comfort level between the two bikes, which bike would you buy? The Venture honestly gets my vote. I have ridden a Goldwing but not on a long distance trip or anything like that. From what i see the RSV just seems like a more comfortable bike and if i was going on a 1000 mile trip, it seems to me like the Venture would be the more comfortable choice. Agree or disagree?
  9. After 10 years and almost 84k, I traded in my 01 RSV for 2012 Goldwing. I've been waiting for Yamaha to build a new touring bike, but I think we all know that isn't going to happen soon, so I finally pulled the trigger on the Honda. It is a completely different bike but I like it. I've had this web site as my home page since it started, so I'm not going anywhere and I still have a few RSV parts around. Plus we have a Goldwing section.
  10. Friend of mine just stop by the house.... said he went to 3 of the 4 Walmart's here in Amarillo to get a super tech filter for his Goldwing. He could not find any of the filters. Ask at the counter and was told they do not carry them any more.
  11. http://wingstuff.com/products/34009-vertical-trailer-hitch-for-2012-gl1800?from_search=1 I would appreciate any information pertaining to this hitch type please. I have been ask to build a Flag Pole Stinger Mount to accommodate the Goldwings type hitch in the link. If there was enough of these type hitches being used, I would consider building a few for this type hitch. There are some extra pictures to the left on the link page. This type hitch says for a 2012 model Honda GW. I have a new design that looks better and I am in the process of getting some built up tomorrow and painted. I can also build these to include the Goldwing if there was enough interest and people using a hitch of this type. If you are not using this type hitch, then please tell me what type hitch you are using ? Pictures would really be appreciated. Thank you for any information you provide. Fuzzy
  12. I found a 05 Goldwing Trike W/Hannigan kit. 88k miles. I know this bike and it has led a very pampered and sheltered life. YELLOW!! Did I mention it was YELLOW?? 24,500. Is he going to get that much? I really don't know what these things are worth. I will get some pics next few days. This guy is very anal about taking care of things. 88k but you would never guess it. He rarely breaks speed limit with it. Matching trailer is available.
  13. I have a friend with an 85 Goldwing, and he can't seem to Bleed the rear brakes. Any Goldwing owners have any suggestions?
  14. Here is a pretty darn good video showing the installation of the Mic-Mute on a Honda Goldwing. Many of us here have the Mic-Mute on our Royal Star Ventures and I honestly think that it is one of the best things you can do to improve the audio system on these bikes. The installation is obviously different on the RSV but the components and operation is pretty much the same. On the RSV, you have to split the fairing but it's really a pretty simple installation. Also, we already have the passenger push to talk switch. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvBfCKVT_PM&feature=player_embedded]Mic-Mutes Install on 2012 Honda Goldwing GL1800 - YouTube[/ame]
  15. hey guys, My horn on my RSTC has bothered me since day one and I have not changed it because I have not found a replacement that I like. I dont like the bad boy type air worns, Does anyone have any experience with othe rtype of air horns. When i picked up my bike it had a Howards horn but it sounded like a keychain air blaster. My buddy's goldwing sounds like a chevy van. thats the sound I am looking for . i dount have the fairings or lowers so where would be the best place to mount? Under the saddlebags, By the radiator?
  16. If you could trade your Venture straight out even swap for a loaded Goldwing, would you?
  17. I think that a more fun and fair comparison should be more apples to apples. Give your experience and opinion for your specific year. I purchased a new 80 Goldwing and love it. I did not like the other competitor’s models at all if they actually had a competitor. I think that the only competitor was the BMW and that time I think BMW was the sport touring standard. BMW just was too expensive for me; also I really did not like the BMWs lines. Just one complaint and that is the 80 Goldwings cornering capabilities. I’m no hot dog but one main fun part of motorcycling was cornering. The cornering ability of the 80 Goldwing caught me my surprised, after the purchase. The 80 Goldwing was my 1st Honda for previously I owned a small 1969 90cc Kawasaki then a 1974 Yamaha TX500 then a 1974 Yamaha YZ125. So I did not have a Honda preference. I sold my 80 Goldwing for raising a family. 27 years later I got the Touring Bike itch with some nostalgic feelings. I wanted my 80 Goldwing back for nostalgic reasons and wanted to own a collectable. It was kind of like wanting to have your 57 Chev back. I found some beautiful 80 Goldwings, however in my search, the Yamaha Venture surfaced. I recalled in 83 when the Venture was introduced and Wow I wanted one even though I was selling my 80 Goldwing. I toss and turned between the 80’s Goldwing and the Venture MKI or MKII. Did a lot of soul searching and settled on the MKII. Like make vehicles history the design goes through some ugly years. Like the Mustang, some of the Mustang’s years were butt ugly. The Goldwing outwardly design changed a lot between 1980 and 1993 and I did not like most of those years design. I’m limiting to 1980 thru 1993 for my purchased, for the MKI and MKII looks are really similar, and in my pocket books range. The MKII got most of the points. I personally liked its design better than the Goldwings, but the Goldwings reverse weighted in very heavily. Then the Goldwings cornering ability came into play. Venture was more top heavy, The engine size really was not a factor for the 80 Wings 1100cc was plenty for me. I would have given the MKI more consideration but the famous 2nd rear issue really done it in. Also the Goldwings seems to be in general more expensive than the Venture in similar condition. Oh I also did like the Wings plastic for the sole purpose when cleaning the bike, But then the plastics took away from the motorcycle looks. So would I prefer my 89 Venture to a Goldwing up to 1993. The Venture won. Now today if I were to buy a new bike and I could afford it. The choice would be between the BMW and the Goldwing and without any test drives yet I’m leaning to the Goldwing. Maybe I should just ride into the BMW and Honda dealer for a test drive. Then maybe I better not, For what I don’t know and experience won’t hurt me. Todays Venture would not even be in the selection. I’ve heard many talk about the riding comfort. I’ve never really had an issue with comfort for I seem to adapt to the Bikes configuration. So there, you have my apple to apple comparision. What is your apple to apple comparision?
  18. Hey Wingers, just to give you heads up for GW recall. Check out this article: 126,000 Honda Goldwing motorcycles recalled for brake problems Dec 7, 2011 1:45 PM Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall alert for approximately 126,000 Goldwing motorcycles. The company has identified an issue with the motorbikes' secondary brake master cylinders that may cause the rear brakes to drag, increasing the risk of a collision. Riding a motorcycle with a stuck rear brake may also generate enough heat to cause a fire. According to Honda, the brake issue affects GL1800 Goldwing motorcycles of the 2001 through 2010 and 2012 model years. In January, the company expects to being notifying affected Goldwing owners to bring their motorcycles to Honda dealers. Mechanics there will inspect and, if necessary, replace the secondary master cylinder free of charge. For more information on the recall, which Honda has identified as S03, consumers can call Honda customer service (toll-free: 866-784-1870) or visit the NHTSA website: http://www.SaferCar.gov. 19. Hi All Ive been trying to what on this. But I have to tell all of you. As some of you know Ive been looking for a new bike for some time now not brand new just newer. Well some of you may recall Christy and I showed up at Big Toms rally on my brother in laws 2002 goldwing. I took some ribbing about it well get set to do it again. I now own a 1988 goldwing there I said it yes a goldwing. Christy and I had a long talk about this and we are just more comfortble on the wing. I still like the venture but this was a great deal so it was hard to pass up. I got the wing for 2000.00 dollars and it needed to to be cleaned up very dirty really dirty. But the rest of the bike ran fine and evrything worked like it was new. As soon as I get it cleaned up Ill put some pics up. I hope Big Tom lets me ride out to ohio with him this year. Bull463
  20. Here's a few pictures from my latest tour. I just got back last week. Vegas to Calgary and back. The 2011 Goldwing was a rental and I can't speak highly enough about it. My 1996 Goldwing is a great Motorcycle, and Honda just keeps refining it. I also have a 1992 Venture Royale that I bought new in 1993. It is the best Motorcycle I have ever owned. I just wish more parts (e.g. Fairing parts) were still available. Thanks, ride safe, and have a great weekend ! 21. Been working on a 1976 Goldwing GL1000 and need a set of coils. If anyone has a set they are willing to part with please let me know. Thank You, Shaun
  22. Has anyone read the June Cycle World review of the new BMWK1600? A friend described the article as the bike being the most magnificient bike they have ever ridden. Everything from the motor to suspension to brakes to handling is flawless. Puts the Goldwing out to pasture, but you have to part with $26K. I havent seen the article yet.
  23. bought a 2000 venture last fall and got a chance to get out with the wife to ride. she told me that the backrest seemed to vibrate a slight bit that was irritating. she said the 82 goldwing didn't do that so wondering if something may be wrong. thanks larry
  24. So, to treat myself for my "Staycation", I decided to rent a 2011 Harley Roadglide Ultra. However, by the time I got finished with all my projects, I had missed out on that deal. (Torential rain, 40+ mph winds and smoke from fires limited my days to go) So, not being one to give up so easily, I saw that the guy had a HD Ultra Classic, and a Honda Goldwing. The UC had "battery issues" and if you have ever had that on a motorcycle, you know that is a dead battery waiting to happen. So I passed, and said what the heck and took the Goldwing. Now, Wifey has always said that I could not have one until I am least 60+, as it is an "Old man's bike" in her opinion. HA! I talked her into riding with me, and so we picked it up Saturday evening. Well, we put 100 miles on it when we left for dinner around 10pm on Saturday. Wow, although it is the size of a Holiday Rambler, it handles like a sport bike. Hard to tell that it had 900+ pounds on the chassis before we go on. Carving turns was a snap, one time she commented after I exited an underpass "I thought you were gonna lay the bike over..." Acceleration was excellent, slowspeed handling in parking lots and sidestreet U-Turns was a cakewalk. Uber-smooth ride. Zooming around the interstates at 80Mph was effortless for that 6cyl 1800cc motor. That said, it is a soul-less bike. I just couldn't own one. No pizzazz, no effort, no challenge. Like a La-Z-Boy with wheels. We did do another 100 miles today. The weather was 80F, clear blue skies, no humidity. Only complaint was the sporadic 25Mph winds. I already decided we are taking the RoadGlide Ultra next time... no exceptions. Shameless Plug: SportRyder Rentals in Dallas has a great selection of bikes to rent, in excellent shape, and Charles is simply great to deal with.
