  1. Just stumbled upon this youtube video of a Venture and a couple of Goldwings drag racing. Running in the low 14's I thought the Venture held up very well to the Goldwing. [ame] [/ame] Dennis

  3. I think that a more fun and fair comparison should be more apples to apples. Give your experience and opinion for your specific year. I purchased a new 80 Goldwing and love it. I did not like the other competitor’s models at all if they actually had a competitor. I think that the only competitor was the BMW and that time I think BMW was the sport touring standard. BMW just was too expensive for me; also I really did not like the BMWs lines. Just one complaint and that is the 80 Goldwings cornering capabilities. I’m no hot dog but one main fun part of motorcycling was cornering. The cornering ability of the 80 Goldwing caught me my surprised, after the purchase. The 80 Goldwing was my 1st Honda for previously I owned a small 1969 90cc Kawasaki then a 1974 Yamaha TX500 then a 1974 Yamaha YZ125. So I did not have a Honda preference. I sold my 80 Goldwing for raising a family. 27 years later I got the Touring Bike itch with some nostalgic feelings. I wanted my 80 Goldwing back for nostalgic reasons and wanted to own a collectable. It was kind of like wanting to have your 57 Chev back. I found some beautiful 80 Goldwings, however in my search, the Yamaha Venture surfaced. I recalled in 83 when the Venture was introduced and Wow I wanted one even though I was selling my 80 Goldwing. I toss and turned between the 80’s Goldwing and the Venture MKI or MKII. Did a lot of soul searching and settled on the MKII. Like make vehicles history the design goes through some ugly years. Like the Mustang, some of the Mustang’s years were butt ugly. The Goldwing outwardly design changed a lot between 1980 and 1993 and I did not like most of those years design. I’m limiting to 1980 thru 1993 for my purchased, for the MKI and MKII looks are really similar, and in my pocket books range. The MKII got most of the points. I personally liked its design better than the Goldwings, but the Goldwings reverse weighted in very heavily. Then the Goldwings cornering ability came into play. Venture was more top heavy, The engine size really was not a factor for the 80 Wings 1100cc was plenty for me. I would have given the MKI more consideration but the famous 2nd rear issue really done it in. Also the Goldwings seems to be in general more expensive than the Venture in similar condition. Oh I also did like the Wings plastic for the sole purpose when cleaning the bike, But then the plastics took away from the motorcycle looks. So would I prefer my 89 Venture to a Goldwing up to 1993. The Venture won. Now today if I were to buy a new bike and I could afford it. The choice would be between the BMW and the Goldwing and without any test drives yet I’m leaning to the Goldwing. Maybe I should just ride into the BMW and Honda dealer for a test drive. Then maybe I better not, For what I don’t know and experience won’t hurt me. Todays Venture would not even be in the selection. I’ve heard many talk about the riding comfort. I’ve never really had an issue with comfort for I seem to adapt to the Bikes configuration. So there, you have my apple to apple comparision. What is your apple to apple comparision?

    rotor covers

Does anybody know if there is a full front wheel rotor cover out there ? I'm looking for something similar to the ring of fire that they have for the Goldwings. It sure would look good on my 09 venture . Thanks for any info on the subject. Gus......
  6. So i have owned 4 goldwings already. From 78 to 84. All the sites I joined relative to goldwings were very informative as here on this forum. The big difference is that I could use more specific related topics on goldwings sites. I usually log on to see what other people are talking about and to see if anyone is preforming a mod that may be interesting. I find slim to none here on this site. I guess this is due to the wonderfull nature of the beast we ride. Not many breakdown , mods, or upgrade topics. Most RS riders enjoy thier bikes as is. I have noticed seat and handle bar changes which I also plan to get done, but other than that a solid soild bike that leaves most activity in the watering hole as opposed to the repair section.
  7. This story appeared in Baggers Magazine. Its part 2 of a series called: Sturgis. Hellride. Is it worth it? Sofar they have posted 3 parts. The jist is that these guys, all professionals, left LA for Sturgis SD, riding long lonely stretches of road in the heat of summer, dodging heat, cows, rain, and traffic. When they got a bit spirited in the mountains of Colorado, something terrible happened. We've all seen videos of riders on the Goldwings, flipping from side to side in the twisties, and dragging pegs all the way. It makes me cringe when I hear that. I never scrape the floorboards...if necessary, I hang-in, decreasing the active lean angle of the bike, but I spent way too many years riding dirtbikes to feel comfortable dragging hard parts on the hard pavement. The bike can lever up, losing traction, or worse, in a blind turn, you might have to chop throttle, and then shaft-drive bikes can rear-dive, and/or increase lean angle and drag MORE metal. So no thanks. MY footboard plates are like new, no scrape marks. No matter what you ride, be careful guys and gals! http://www.baggersmag.com/features/1007_hrbp_baggers_3000_mile_hell_ride_part_2/index.html http://image.baggersmag.com/f/features/1007_hrbp_baggers_3000_mile_hell_ride_part_2/29187343+pheader_460x1000/1007_hrbp_01_z+baggers_3000_mile_hell_ride_part_2+2009_honda_goldwing_crash.jpg
  8. No, not thinking of putting a car tire on a 1st Gen. Instead, thinking about replacing the four carb mess with a single carburetor and manifold similar to what is done on the Goldwings. Has anyone tried this? Were you successful? Inquiring minds want to know.
  9. :happy65:Has anyone found a good trunk lid oganizer for the RSV. I have seen some for Goldwings that also had saddlebag lid organizers. Please let me know. Thank you.
  10. This isn't particularly technical, but... I transitioned from Goldwings (1500 and 1800) to a 2009 RSV last fall and my wife and I are planning our first vacation on it. Both of my Goldwings' kickstands would sink into warmish asphalt like a hot knife going into butter. That resulted in a free show for bystanders who were treated to a vocabulary demonstration while I freed the 'wing. Eventually I opted for a plastic footprint looking thing which I left behind at a restaurant and then I used various pieces of metal designed to spread out the wing's weight. My question is: do I need one with the RSV? The RSV kickstand looks like it spreads out the weight nicely, but I don't want to take any unnecessary chances. Thanks in advance.
