  1. I have been putting a few miles on my 87 with my daughter. Well after visiting a friend a few blocks from me I sat my daughter in front of my and well, let her dive home. Now I still had control of thing just in case but she basically had the reins. She is 8 and absolutely loved it. I wish I had a video or even a pic of it ad she could not stop smiling. My wife says she is going to grow up and be exactly like me. A fleet of bikes and a ton of tools. LOL, Like I said I just wanted to share, Shaun
  2. Well my 87 had a real bad 7 years. In short it was crashed, repaired, left sittig. I got it for some labor. The windshield was missing, the clutch lever was broken, the battery was gone. I "borrowed" parts from my 83 and put a new battery in it. Changed the oil and it fired up, pretty easy actually. Now when I test rode it it fell on its face when I opened it up. No power. So I had planned a big carb cleaning and tune up. When I got in to get to the carbs I found the airbox was not even hooked to the carbs, it was just sitting there. I got it seated in place and a new air filter in. I put new plugs in it and checked over all other seals and what nots to make sure I had not missed anything else. Took it for another ride. Much better. Responds like it should, still a little hesitation when you go from 1/2 throttle right to wot, but getting better. Now here are my questions. The tach, no where even close to right, never reads over about 2500 rpm. Any idea why? also the temp gauge, barely gets off the cold pin. I know it gets warmer than that, again why? If anyone may know why these do not seem to work right I am all ears. Thank You, Shaun
  3. That is probably the one thing I had not thought about. I considered the fitment, accessibility, functionality but not the heat from being behind the engine and inches from the rear exhaust. Thank You, Shaun
  4. Well my rear brake reservoir broke. Fairly common I know. My question is that I can get an aftermarket for under $10. I have not seen anyone use one on there venture. Is there a reason or have I just not noticed it? I do not want to put something on that will just give me a headache. Any input will be appreciated. Thank You, Shaun
  5. Well I had a little time so I dug out my 83. I got the headlight changes, lowbeam still does not work GRRRR. I had already had it on the charger. Got it fired up, stung bad for a bit then cleared up. Took it out for a spin. Stopped at a friends place to chew the fat. when I went to leave the starter just growled, no start. I let it sit for a couple hours and tried again, nope not happening. We pushed it down his drive n got it started, not to hard. Got home and let it sit until I got home from work. Tried to start it and nothing. Checked the battery and it was dead so I figured it was bad and got a new one. Not the battery is dead again and still no start. Any ideas? Shaun
  6. I trash on HD's because I had one and it was nothing but junk!!! Owned it for three months, lost three final drives, several belts, and could not get it to stop leaking oil. Swore I would NEVER own another one. As for crotch rockets, I still like to get out and play on one but wont ride one much, but most riders of them like them for showing off, just as a general statement. I think most of us here have rode most brands, and types of bikes. And in doing so we may have done things that looked odd and humorous to others and just thought it was cool or neat. Now we can see how funny we were and express that by pointing out what everyone else does that is funnier than sin. Like searching for the weird noise you heard just to find out it was your new cell phone. Shaun
  7. A simple set of micro switches and simple logic circuit would do it and it would only take a couple hours to built and install. Should be easy to do. Shaun
  8. There was supossed to be a pic here but it wont post for some reason. Sorry, Shaun
  9. WOW, Glad to hear you are OK. The kid should have gotten something, if at least a leaving the scene ticket. I am glad you do not have a lot of damage, but you will know more when you get it home and gone through. Shaun
  10. OKay, my buddy took a look at her. He does some odd testing but is almost always right on the money. He pulled the plugs and started testing the spark by slowly opening the gaps until it would not jump the gap. When he got to about .060 is where it would no longer spark. He results, bad plug wires. He also found some little chunks in the fuel coming out of the line at the carbs, we believe that it is the lining of the fuel line coming apart. Next up is using MBroods idea of flushing the carbs, replace the fuel line, new plug wires and spark plugs and see how it is from there. Will also do an oil change just for good measure. Hoping for the best, Shaun
  11. It takes a lot to get as far as you have. Congrats to both of you. Shaun
  12. I seafoam her every 5th tank of gas. A buddy of mine is going to look at it toning while I am at work. He is thinking that the floats need adjusted. Sure am looking forward to getting this fixed. Shaun
  13. The slides appear to work together. The plugs look like it is running rich, real dark and moist. Also found that when it is sitting and idling all four carb vents hoses drip fuel. Me next chance I will do some more looking into things. Shaun
  14. Well here it is in a nutshell. The bike seems to be down on power and mpg. Thought at first I dropped a cylinder. Nope firing on all four. Was able to get into for a little yesterday. I checked spark on all plugs, idle dropped with every wire I pulled. Pulled the airbox and watched down the carbs as I revved it up, appears to have good fuel flow, maybe to much? If I was to get on it today I would just think it was normal and never work on it but knowing how much power is really has and what it is putting out now I think there is a problem. Any ideas? Shaun
  15. Nice. Lots of work and well worth it. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more as the bike progresses. And welcome, the $12 spent here is the best money you will ever spend. Shaun
