  1. Hi, my friend with XVZ13 Venture has following problem: his motorcycle is lugging at acceleration from 2000 - 2500RPM to full throttle values from dynojet (gauged at 37.500 mil, now drived 38.000 mil): - 95 nm - 77 HP Others data: - compression: 13 - 14 atm - new carburettor membranes (main and acceleration) - new plugs - new filters (fuel, air) - underpressure OK - exhaust gas oxygen sensor 1,100 +- - CO2 1,2 Any ideas are welcome. Best regards, Jarda Horak
  2. As most of us know, Walmart does not carry Super Tech oil filters anymore.........What is everyone using now? It looks like Purolator won out on the bid.
  3. I have an '07 Venture, 25k miles, stock engine/exhaust setup, carbs settings have never been modified (except being balanced a couple of years ago). A few days ago I changed the spark plugs and replaced the air filters for the first time. Instead of installing paper filters, I installed K&N filters. After putting the bike back together and taking it for a test ride, I noticed a (somewhat negative) performance difference. When accelerating through gears 1-4, or if I cruise around 40 MPH in 4th gear, there is an occasional sag. Overall, the bike still accelerates well, but the sag is more prevalent when holding a steady speed. Highway performance is good; cruising at highway speeds is smooth, and passing is no problem. Also, when decelerating, there is more popping, and an occasional backfire (when decelerating from highway speeds). The bike has never backfired before. Mileage is still around 40 MPG (I rode over 600 miles since the plugs/filters were changed). I thought the K&N filters were a direct replacement and no carb mods would need to have been made. Has anyone experienced this before? I still have the paper filters, and when I make time, I will put those back in and see if the performance goes back to the way it was. Any other suggestions on what I could check? Thanks!
  4. My question is what are the advantages of converting the oem cartridge filters to the spin on variety? Are the spin on versions a better filtering system then the oem's or is it because there's more choices using the spin ons? Also if switching to a spin on type who or where has the best conversion adapters? This is for an 83. Larry
  5. Friend of mine just stop by the house.... said he went to 3 of the 4 Walmart's here in Amarillo to get a super tech filter for his Goldwing. He could not find any of the filters. Ask at the counter and was told they do not carry them any more.
  6. Just wanted to post this for feed back. I have been trying to think of ways to dress up the air intake/filter box area. Not looking for high performance just visiual appeal. My bike is an 08 RSV and I have added some RK mufflers. This is the only mechanical modification that has been done. I first started off by trying to find out how much CFM the stock filters drew so I would not be messing with fuel/air mixtures. Let me state I have no technical skills at all. Just about everyone that I've seen that has altered the air intake has had to adjust or re-jet and shim needle valves!?!? Seems the filters they used drew way to much air and exceeded the cfm required by the RSV. The only way I could come close was to call K & N and they gave me the info on CFM of the replacement filter for the RSV. Part #YA-1399 has 338 cfm. Then I looked at different types of "Pod, Pancake" type filters. Nobody making filter is willing or knows how much CFM there filters draw (except K&N). I wanted to keep the filter size small so that I would not exceed the 338. Thinking that K&N was a high flow filter, the stock must draw less. Also the stock air box has only a 1.5 inch hole drawing that air through. I was able to get info on several filter that looked good and had the low cfm draw. I decided on a small 4.5" round chrome pancake filter that is 1" thick. The filter is reusable/washable and oil charged. I fabricated small brackets to secure it solidly and also got some muffler pipe to form a connection between filter and intake hose. The filters draw 127 cfm each. I've had them on for a couple days now and have ran the bike on the highway and in town. Running through the rev limits and down shifting. There has been no hesitation of sputtering at all. Lots of get-up and go. Have only put about 20 miles on her so far. As for the filter being small my thinking was the stock flliter box is roughly 9.5L x 5W x 4.5D with a small 1.5 inch hole drawing air into a filter that is roughly 5.25L x 3.5X x 3.5D. The outside box makes the filter look bigger than it really is. If I need to go up in filter size or cfm K&N also has several round and oval styles with cfm draw of 172 to 269. Have included some pictures to show how it looks. Sure would like to here some of your thoughts (good/bad, postive/negative). Or if anyone would like more information just let me know. Thanks for reading, Dennis
  7. They have K&N filters for 6.94 and I was womdering if anyone ever has ever dealt with them.. http://www.123autoparts.com/searchitem.epc?lookfor=KN303
  8. These bikes are so nice even mice love them. Went to see if my new to me RSTD has K&N's in it and lo and behold, mice had chewed the edges off one of them (stock ones). Gave me a good excuse to the wife to buy new filters (K&N's of course). CHECK THOSE FILTERS!
  9. A while back I had to order some things from a online Motorsports place. While I was on the site I noticed that they sold oil filters for XV1200TDVENTURE 85-86. They are made by a company named Filtrex and claim on their packaging to be O.E.M. suppliers for Japanese motorcycle companies. They look to be very well made filters when compared to other I have purchased. Being my shelf supply was getting low I ordered 2. I went to put one on yesterday and I couldn't get the mounting bolt through the hole in the center being it was a hair to large and would pull the sealing rubber free from the filter. Lubing it up didn't help at all. My question is this isn't the 1200 & 1300 mounting bolt the same size?
  10. I got some filters from my Dad after he died. I'm not sure if they fit anything that I got. I tried to cross reference but didn't get anywhere after 90+ minutes. How do I find out if the filters that I have fit the vehicles that I own? Got filters: Fram: PH3600, PH2, PH9A, Motorcraft FL-820S How do I find out if I have vehicles to match these filters?
  11. Anyone has the Carrier Infinity Electronic Air Filtering system installed. I'm needing to install a new Air Filter. It is the GAPCCCAR2025 that actually filters out bacteria. It is supposed to be the similar filtering technology used in hospitals. My question is that a new one cost around $90.00 and was wondering if someone has figured out a way to clean these filters to get longer life out of them. I'm guessing not but thought I would would just ask.
  12. I need to buy new air filters for the 06 RSTD. Anyone have suggestions on a vendor with a good price and quality? Are the K and N filter worth the money?
  13. Doing maintenance checks on newly aquired 99 RSV with 55k and found the air filters were installed with the tab on top of the slot they are meant to go into, leaving a small gap. I wondered why the air intakes had a layer of dust/dirt on them when I removed the filter housing. Care to guess how much shorter the engine life is now? In the process of trying to find when they were replaced, but they didn't look new! Also the brake fluid looked like the original, like a dark beer color. Everything seems to work fine though, hope she lasts a few years!
  14. Good morning everyone. I've made a couple of changes to my 06 RSTD. I installed a set of RK exhaust that are drilled out on both ends (see through) and a set of K&N filters. After the installation of RK exhaust I started experiencing popping on decel when going from 4th down to 3rd and 3rd down to 2nd. After I installed the filters the exhaust seems a bit louder (the sound is perfect - not too loud but it sounds really nice on accelleration) and the popping does too. So, now that I've made those enhancements I want to rejet with bigger jets. My questions are: 1. Where and what jets should I buy? 2. Would rejetting take care of my popping issue? 3. Is there a step-by-step somewhere so I can do the install myself or would I be better off to take it to my Stealer considering my mechanical abilities are less that perfect? I've already stuck more money into the bike than I wanted too this year so any do-it-myself work would be acceptable. I just don't know if replacing the jets is something I should tackle. Thoughts, feelings, comments everyone? Thanks, Les
  15. Found K&N filters for RSV on ebay for US $65.41 And free shipping Here's the ebay item number:390336609304

  17. Has anyone heard of or know of the FLO Oil Filters Stainless Steel Reusable Spin On Oil Filter? Re-useable / cleanable metal type oil filter supposedly tons superior to any brass or paper filter available.. $100 or so, it's not cheap but over time might be worth it? But is it worth it? Tech Overview: Constructed of laser cut, medical grade, 304 stainless steel micronic filter cloth In many cases filters provide 200 percent more filter area Stainless filter catches items down to 35 microns, which is about three times better than most good paper or brass filters Unlike glued paper filters, the FLO Oil Filter pleat seam is welded and able to withstand up to 600 degrees Filters maintain consistent flow under all conditions including extreme heat, the presence of water, and cold start ups where paper filters can flow so poorly that they often cause the bypass valve to open and allow unfiltered oil to enter your engine Should be the last filter you ever need; this high tech filter technology is widely used in all types of auto racing including NASCAR, Indy type cars, Formula 1 and in the Aerospace industry where filtration is of the utmost importance
  18. Is there a trick for getting to the air filters? I need to change the filters, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how to get to them.
  19. Bought a new 2009 RSV in June of 09 off the showroom floor. It ran OK but felt no where near the power I had when I rode my 06 RSV. I took it in the summer of 2010 and asked the dealer about low power. They shimmed the carbs and I rode off and it still lacked the power I had in the 2006. I was gone away most last year with work and didn't ride much. This year while in an email conversation with a fellow VentureRider in Canada he suggested a set of K&N filters. I ordered a set and installed them this week I can't believe the difference! It's unbelievable a set of air filters will make it run stronger, I knew I had a carb problem but never dreamed the stock air filters were holding back that much air. I don't know if others will benefit from this simple upgrade but I couldn't be happier and highly recommend K&N filters. Thanks Randy
  20. This is an interesting video..........its Yamaha about snowmobile oil filters and the bad pleated competition filters. Makes ya wonder! Maybe the motorcycle division should talk to the snowmobile division? Keith [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s1wuweZJzw]www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s1wuweZJzw[/ame]
  21. I am thinking about changing out some key components of my bike. The first area will be the air filters. I want to go with separate filters for each carb. After some research I have come up with a K&N part number of RU-2989. Is this the correct PN for the four separate filters? Of course the next question will be what jets to use to keep the A/F ratio correct? Followed by replacing the resonator/collector with the Mark's Pipe component and free flowing mufflers. Thoughts welcome.
  22. OK everybody, Im getting ready to change the oil on my 91 vr. I found a web page that does oil filter cross reference(http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html). It states that my bike should use the ch6002. And that is what I have been using since I bought the bike 3 yrs ago. Now for my problem. The ch6002 is no longer available and all that can be found to order from yamah dealor or auto stores is the K&N replacement at almost $15. Im cheap and woould love to find a better option. I looked at the specs on the canister filters and the ch6002 and the ch6003 are almost identical in dementions. Will the ch6003 filter work as they are readily available and cost less than $5? Nay sugestions will be apreciated. I seem to remeber a post that said these 2 filters were intercahngable but want to make sure before I take it apart and try. Tahnks in advance. David
  23. It's time to replace my air filters. I was planning on using the K&N filters then it occurred to me that with the Barron after market mufflers it might run too lean. Do I need to worry about that?
