  1. Buddy and I did Lake Michigan a few years back, now moving on to the next lake. Looking to do Lake Erie in late June and looking for tips & advice. Leaving from Chicago and fly the toll way to Toledo then work our way around, not sure which direction yet but probably doing 200-250 miles per day staying off the highway and following the lakefront as much as possible. 1. Already have a passport and know the usual traveling outside the country stuff, but have never driven outside the states. What do I need to know about riding in Canada? 2. Sights to see, roads to hit? 3. Anyone along the way free the weekend of June 26th?
  2. Kind of sad today. Sold my 98 Magna V45 today to an 18 yr old kid. Hope he can handle it. Really liked that bike as it was fun to ride. It handled great and ate up Harleys. I bought my RSTD in June because it was a lot more comfortable riding two up. I have a thing for the V-4. Don't have time or room for both so the Magna lost out. Now I have more money to buy shiny things for new bike
  3. My 2007 RSV is leaking gas (a huge understatement) from the front of the bike after sitting up for a while. I had surgery on my knee last year around June 1st and could not ride till March of this year. I had another surgery this June 1st and it went much better than the previous one. Anyway, I started the bike last month as I try to start it once every month or 2 when it sits up, with no problem. I went out today to start it up, it started, but gas came pouring out. I can't be sure where exactly, but it shouldn't be a freeze plug as the winter here was very mild this year and I had ridden since. I am not really handy with tools and am planning on bringing it to the shop, but wanted to have an idea as to what I was looking at having done. TIA Joe:bighug:
  4. Is anyone going to Thunder in the Valley June 21-24th, Johnstown Pa. http://www.visitjohnstownpa.com/thunderinthevalley/ Next link is from VMax contingent. http://www.vmoa.net/modules/xcenter/?storyid=18 Looks like I will be there. Gary
  5. Well...well...not to have those midwesterners in Minnesota outdo us folks on the Best Coast, I thought I would pass along that the Classic Japanese Motorcycle Club is having it's annual Swap Meet and Bike Show in Auburn, CA. at the end of this month, on Friday, June 29th. to Sunday, July 1st. Here is the link to their calendar, and you will have to scroll down to get to the end of June to see all the details of the event: http://www.cjmc.org/calendar.html There is Flat Track races on Friday night, not affiliated with the swap meet and show, but in the same fairgrounds area, so we all just walk over to the flat track races and have a hoot. It has been popinted out to me that this is somewhat near Condor...hmm...so maybe he could show up too.
  6. John's (and Dianne) mother passed away on the 6th of June. Details below. I would ask for prayers for the family during this difficult time and for safe travels for friends and especially John's brother who has a far distance to get here. DOWNTON, Marie Peacefully, with family by her side on Wednesday June 6, 2012 at the Brampton Civic Hospital at the age of 78. Beloved wife of the late Harvey (1989). Loving mother of Rick (Elaine), John (Dianne), Michael (Noel) and Chris (Stella). Cherished Grandma of Sheri, Jamie , Bailey , Holly , Ryan, Adam and Madison. Devoted Great-Grandma of Callum , Molly and Malakai . She will be missed by many other family members, close friends and all who knew her. The family will receive friend on Sunday June 10, 2012 at the Scott Funeral Home "Brampton Chapel", 289 Main N. Brampton (905 451 1100) from 1 - 2 p.m. followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salvation Army or the Humane Society. 7. I'm riding from Seattle area to Southern California area and was wonder if any one with a Spot GPS would consider loaning/renting theirs out. They are about $100 for the Spot and about $100 for a 1 year subscription. I don't think I would use it that much else I would consider purchasing one. I'm leaving next Sat (16th June) early morning.

  14. Just to let you all know, that Ron and I never have any plans usually. Some how June 2 must be the international date for any event to be planned on. First my school is having a retirement party for me and two teachers on June 2. My great nephew is graduating from Medical school on June 2. I used to baby sit him when he was in kindergarten. But Ron and I are coming to Freebird's June 2! I refuse to give up my favorite event of the year. I hope the rest can forgive me! Yama Mama
  15. Squeeze hasn't posted here since June ... what's happened to him???
  16. June 11 weekend. Karen and I would like to host the WI MD this year at our house in Fox Lake. We have plenty of room for camping, 2 car garage with a bar, good neighbors (some may even stop by), and motels available in Beaver Dam and Waupun. The VR calendar is filling up fast, so I want to get the ball rolling. Happening on June 11, and the invitation would be good for Friday afternoon through Sunday. We can fix everything that broke on the way back from Freebird's MD the week before. Is this OK with everyone, and is anyone interested? Later, Scooter Bob and Karen Here's a link to the event in the calendar.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=240&day=2011-6-11&c=1
  17. Headed to Maine on Friday 3 June until Thursday the 9th. Unfortunately I'm flying from Seattle to Portland and not taking the Royal Star. If ANYONE is near Richmond Maine on Sunday the 5th of June meet me at the Richmond Grange Hall and help us celebrate my parents 55th wedding anniversary. My Dad has already invited the entire state so I'm inviting the rest of the nation.
  18. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good route to the town of mather california just outside of yosemite to the evergreen lodge? my wife and i are riding there beginning of june for our anniversary.
  19. Since this is a Vogal year, I threw it out about having a long weekend meet and eat for the weekend of June 10-12th as we have done in the past and meeting at the Asheville KOA campground. It appears that we are getting very little interest this year, which may be the combination of Vogal, the economy and the date that was set, which is the weekend after Freebird's MD, or whatever. Also Warrior sent me a PM about a M&E in Asheville on the 18th, but I have not seen where he has posted anything. Sooooo, if June 10-12th is not a good time for many that are interested in coming, maybe we could target another date, maybe in July, as I am game for that. Or if there is just not enough interest this year, maybe we can try to put together a bigger rally next year. But, if we are going to cancel this year, I will need to notify the KOA campground so they will not hold those spaces for us. I really did want to try June this year as this is really late spring up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the colors are wonderful and the camping would normally be just a little cooler than July or August. So, please give me some feedback so I can put some things together, one way or the other. Thanks, RandyA
  20. Greetings fellow Venturers ! I am sorry to say but I will not be able to attend „Freebirds Maintenance Day“ this year like I planned but the „Icelandic Black Death“ will be served like last two years. Made that promise in 2009 and plan to keep it for as long as I am standing tall. The reason we will not attend is that my wife is not off work untill the 6th. of June and she planned to attend with me. However we have booked tickets for USA and are arriving the 11th. of June in Newark Airport and we are going to spend around 19 days riding and visiting friends. We could say it is kind of a late honeymoon so to speak. We really look forward to this and we have decided not to plan the trip day by day but take it as it comes. The plan is to ride across New York state, Ohio and Pennsylvania and maybe dropping by in Indiana if the time allows. Now what I am going to ask is kind of hard for me but here we go: Is there anybody in the States above that could let us overnight if we are riding through ? We do not need any kind of luxury and we will be bringing our sleeping bags. This would make the trip a little easier on us money vice.We can not plan this by dates since we do not want to put ourselves to the pressure of going point to point on a strict timeplan. Means that we would call ahead (most likely the same day or the day before) and see if anybody is home. If nobody is home or we call at a inconvenient time then we just go to a motell with no problem. Sincerely hope that I am not being to frank or rude asking this, but we are sometimes a little bit to much forward we Icelandairs. Most likely caused by the thin air we breath as well as living on an Island and being able to look up the prime minister in the phonebook and give him a call. :>) There is another request for East New York and East Pennsylvania members in another thread I will write after posting this. I am looking for a very nice couple I met at „Freebirds Maintenance Day“ in 2009 that live in East Pennsylvania. Wrote down their name but lost the note. They offered me to store my bike if needed and I would very much like to get in touch with them. Had planned to take the bike home to Iceland but not having a bike in the States is not an option so I need to get it stored somewhere not to far away from JFK or Newark Airport. Anywhere within about 125 miles would work - but the closer the better. Thanks for reading this and we are looking so much forward to meet as many of you as we can this June. Please feel free to contact us through PM messages in this forum or by email: jonaslill@istak.is Friendly regards from Iceland, Username: StarFan Jonas Th. Lilliendahl and Margret S. Bjornsdottir.
  21. Bought this used Escapade today, '06. First time trailer owner and looking forward to taking a trip with it. Have a cross-country trip planned for end of June, but will have to try something sooner. Any tips from trailer owners for newbies?
  22. Getting new shoes on the RSV tomorrow, and the "2011 Tour" is really shaping up to be a good one! Departing the ATL on: ~ Feb 25 - Palm Beach FL - 6 days ~ March 5 - Daytona Bike Week - 7 days ~ May 26 - Washington DC (Rolling Thunder) - 5 days ~ June 10 - Dayton OH - 4 days ~ June 23 - White Sulpher Springs, WVA - 5 days ~ Sept 8 - Philly PA (for 9/11 memorial) - 6 days Not sure how many miles that is, but it's more than I've done in a long time in one calendar year, not including the weekly 200 - 300 mile rides we do to the mountains from March through November, and all of the other shorter rides with the PGR and WWR. 2011 is gonna be a great year. It has to be, cause 2010 sucked! So when is the N. GA maintenance day???
  23. Just wanted to share this with everyone. Some of you know about all my struggles with my left eye and some don't. It's a long story but I will make it short. While on a trip out west last June I had hemorrhaging in my left eye and a membrane tear inside the eye and lost the sight in it. I have had 3 different surgeries since then with no results. I have been able to see about a total of 3 weeks since June 24th when this happened. We had one more chance to fix it with this last (4th) surgery I had on the 10th of this month. As of this morning (Tuesday the 18th) I can now see. It isn't 20/20 but about 20/70 or so and I can live with that. It is so wonderful to be able to see out of both eyes again. Anyway thanks for listening. Rick
  24. Goin' to fill in the rest of my map in the area and get a saddlebag from Jonesy at Americade later the following week. Probably leavin' thursday night the 3rd of june, head south to the middle of IL and then head east through Indy and take I70 to the middle of PA and then down to DC. From there I'll be trying to ride in all those states but also trying to miss the big cities. When I get to Maine, I'm going to see if that "Haynesville road is just a ribbon of ice" in june, and then head back west to Mt Washington and then to Lake George. I'll keep posting to this thread as I go, but I'll probably camp quite a few nights so it may not be often as the trip progresses. If anyone lives along I70 in western Pa that would like company for a night next Friday, let me know. Beyond that, I have know idea where I'll end up at this point, but would like to meet a few more folks from here if it works out. Later, Scooter Bob
  25. I looked at all the boards...couldn't figure out where to post something like this...feel free to move it if needed. Anyway, me and a buddy are gonna make a trip to the Grand Canyon June 18th-25th. Our plan is to head out on Friday (June 1http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif and be back the next Friday (June 25). It'll be a moderate riding 2 of the first 3 days...and then EASY RIDING for 2 days out in Flagstaff...and then 2 moderate days riding back to Arkansas. Do you feel like seeing the Grand Canyon? Come with us. 2-3 people to a room...so the costs won't be that bad. For more information: http://www.arkansasbiker.net Wally
