I can count on one hand the number of times I've accessed the internet from work in the last 15 years, most have been a 1 -2 minute deal, never more than 5 minutes...

85 trunk
bongobobny replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Wayne, I just happened to think, the hardware is still on the trunk from the '85 and when I finally get around to it, I probably won't care if the trunk is removable or not, so if nothing comes up before Saturday, I'll take it off that one... -

That is the question! This all started with buying a set of handlebar grip heaters. I decided why not change the grips to a set of Kuryakan ISO's and then started considering new handlebars as well. Sooo, my question is how much of a difference is there? I want the controls closer to me and am wondering how much they actually come back, and is there any clearance issues?? Will I gain any extra handlebar area for mounting stuff?? Opinions, please!

Glad I woke up at 3 this AM and saw it! Found it very interesting and tragically truthful!! Didn't consider it political myself but I have to agree it would be a short matter of time before the thread would have gone down that road...

I looked at a 'Wing befire I bought my RSV, and the choice was obvious to me. Both have pros and cons, so you have to decide for yourself. Brand new, the RSV was 2K cheaper. It was much more comfortable than the wing. The particular Wing I tried out had a lot of creaky plastic noises. As far as performance power wise the RSV was a tad slower but they were pretty much compatable. OK the Wing was definately better at low speed maneuvers, and the RSV can be a little intimidating, but the learning curve is pretty fast, and it is easy to underestimate the handling capabilitys of the RSV. I found out you can lean them a lot more than I thought when I went into an unexpected turn a little faster than I should have, but everything was all right going further than I thought the bike could take! The bottom line was the warranty, 5 years UNLIMITED mileage as opposed to 2 years limited mileage, and the warranty IS transferrable!. Although the RSV is a little wide and tall for my stature, I don't regret choosing the RSV! Of course I did like my 1st gen better than my 2nd gen...

Hmmmmm, I can remember a discussion about this a couple of years ago but I can't remember the outcome! You can always pack a netbook so you can access the site in case of emergency...

There is a 3 pocket bag for a Harley that will also work on the RSV, it's the one that has like a "bib" on it and installs under the windshield. Maybe Big Tom will pipe in as he has one on his, and I'm planning on getting one for mine when I put my new clearview on this spring...

LED Signal light EQUALIZER quandry HELP
bongobobny replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
A poor man's fix is to get a couple of bulbs and sockets, paint the bulbs black, and hook them in parallel with a left and right turn signal, either front or back. Seeing as the front and rear turn signals are in parallel altready (on the same line) you do not need 2 pairs of load ballasts, just one set. The black line goes to ground, and the purple ones go to one green and one brown wire... If you want additional turn signals somewhere, you won't have to black out the bulbs, just make sure the extra turn signals are not LED's!- 23 replies

AAh, Mini beat me to the punch!! These bikes are pretty bulletproof, but if you can get your hands on a spare YTCI just in case, that's a good thing. A lot of us 1st gen riders carry a spare just in case as it probably is the most prone to fail. Just make sure your tires are good and change the oil, you should be good to go. PS while you are at it, grease your driveshaft where it goes into the U joint if you get a chance...

Don't waste your time, Dan, just get a new switch and be done with it!!!They really aren't THAT expensive. Yes, you need to use the 1st gen switch to have the functions work right for both the ignition circuit and the starter circuit. You can wire the sidestand switch so you still can start it with the kickstand up, but it also makes it possible to start it in gear with the kickstand down. That's asking for trouble...

I ended up spending about an hour each tube on mine! Like you said not show bike but definate improvement. Pitting is very hard to remove but as suggested start with a fairly ruff sandpaper and work up in numbers. Myself I have a plastic wheel similar to a wire wheel that I use to bring the rest of the metal down to the bottom of the pits and then I switch to a "paint stripper" attachment that I hook up to my drill press to bring up the shine a bit. Then I go to a couple different courseness buffing compounds until either I'm satisfied with the finish or I just plain give up...
