  1. Any one have any experience drying Hartco velour seats after rain? Does scotch help? Any comments on comfort when used on a RSV? Regards, Paul
  2. One old man on a 2007 FJR. Left Houston at 02:50, Saturday morning. South on the beltway to IH10 west. Sun rise as I was leaving the west side of San Antonio. Boerne, Comfort, Kerrville, Junction, Sonora, Ozona, Ft. Stockton, Balmorhea, turn around and head back. Arrived home at 20:30 just as the sun was setting. 1115 miles, 17hrs 40min. Odometer reading was 47 miles higher than GPS. Bike ran great. You can really haul butt in west texas where the posted speed limit is 80mph. Hot (upper 90s) and dry in the desert. Corbin seat and Heli bar pull backs did their jobs. No sore body parts. Hydration using Camalbak 100oz insulated carrier. 50/50 water and Propel Zero. Drank a full 200 ozs (6 liters) and only stopped to pee once. Thought I would be pretty sore the next day but surprisingly not so much. Hands were a bit tired and sore but that was it. Need to replace my worn out gloves. I am pretty much ATGATT. I was trying out a new base layer from Cycle Gear called Heat Out. It is similar to the LD Comfort riding stuff but only about 20-30 bucks. Fits like a second skin and helps wick away perspiration and provides cooling. It works. I like it. Durability remains to be proven. Zipcode Dave was tracking me with a ham radio APRS program that worked pretty well. I will let him comment on that. It was a good ride. Next...
  3. I finally decided to buy the Utopia Backrest for my 06, and it is a quality product to say the least. It adjusts backwards, forwards, and up and down. It has one engineering flaw in my humble opinion---the tube presses so hard into the passenger pillion that it actually distorts its shape. They provide a protective shield to keep it from tearing the seat, but it still distorts the shape. The comfort level is very good. My stock seat is still uncomfortable, but I am looking at a pad by Butt Buffer and Comfort Max. Anyone have either of those? Anyway, its another step towards more comfort on the longer rides. Jim:)
  4. I got my 83 venture the 4th of July. After running a couple of tanks with sea foam in it I was getting 40 mpg. Now getting 37 mpg or a little less, I thought I might be running into some problems. Looking into a few things my problem is self inflickted. The more I ride the more comfort I have in the bike. So my driving a little harder and faster is more then likly the problem. Things are not as they seam.
  5. $89 NOT $64 Say's that is best rate I can have because of name change So just made reservations for Maintenance Day at Quality Inn (Comfort Inn) anyways. Guess I should have just made reservation and just cancel if I didn't end up going
  6. Finally got around to registering Eileen and I for the International Rally. Also made hotel reservations. We will be staying at the Comfort Inn. Would have liked to stay at the Skyline because I think that is where most of you are staying but I've got free rooms at the Comfort so need to save the money. Really looking forward to the trip and I hope that MANY of you will get registered soon. We really need to start ramping this up now and get all you folks excited about it. It's going to be a GREAT time.
  7. the corbin seat company. is for sale,so i decided to buy it. no not the company, a new solo seat for my nomad. i mounted it yesterday. this is my 7th corbin seat. it is ultra comfortable and i haven't broke it in yet. corbin says it takes a couple of thousand miles to form the memory foam, which i have found to be true, from past experience. i have had quite a few custom seats, and i still find corbin to be the best for the long haul. i rate this one a 15 on the 10 scale, for looks and comfort. my wife does'nt like the corbin touring seat on my v-star 1300. i think the rear floor board position may be the problem. i told her you will like it, cuz i'm not buying anymore seats.
  8. I have a 2005 Honda St1300. I have put 12k miles on her and she is a great bike but not as comfy on longer trips as my wife and I wish. We are thinking about switching to the Venture for long trip comfort. So I am looking for your experience and advice. Has anyone made this or similar switch? What is the comfortable top freeway speed? Wind buffeting?
  9. I do not own a Royal Venture, and.....knowing nothing really about them from experience, I would say that it would not be my first choice as a tourer. The Gl 1800 would fill that bill for me...................But, that being said, I CANT AFFORD A GOLDWING. An 06 with decent miles cost about what I paid new for mine. (16,200) I had an 06 and sold it because of a home improvement loan, and bought a much less expensive Kawasaki VN2000 Classic LT, which I LOVE, but my wife....does not. I like her to ride with me, and she is still spoiled to the Wing. I have found an 08 with less than 10k miles. It is immaculate, but has nothing other than what came stock, for an even $10,000. This is a super deal IMO, but its 500 miles from me. So if I go, I have to buy it based on what I see, or have made a 1000 mile trip for nothing. A brief test ride will not tell me all I need to know, so I am asking for opinions, which granted, will have to be biased, I understand. I am concerned about power. I appears to me that only 1300 cc's for an almost 900 pound bike is reaching a bit. I am concerned about PASSENGER comfort. My Vulcan is very very comfy for me, but not particularly for my wife. I can only assume driver comfort would be great. Does anyone here have experience with both. Thanks
  10. Anyone thinking about hotel plans for MD? The comfort inn was ok with me, wasn't too far from dons house and was nice and clean. The fact they let a bunch of bikers hang out in front of building and drink was very nice. any other ideas?
  11. Went camping last week, on the way home HalRSV99 noticed a trailer on the side of the road so we stopped. Very clean and well cared for. Made an offer and the guy accepted so now we can go camping with a little comfort. Brad
  12. Left the Comfort Inn around 10:00 with Joe Neasmon and Motorcycle Tom & Amy. Didn't get too far before e had to stop to fix Joe's trailer, one of his rear lights was ready to fall off the trailer. We figured out why he also had problems with losing the bolt on his shifter coming down as well! The trailer he bought wsas used on a Harley and it caught the bug! Any way, it was a very enjoyable ride! Comfort stop past Cleveland, and lunch at the cracker barrel in Erie. Stiopped in Ellicottville for coffee and finally home! Great time, met some new peiople, remembered most of the people I already know! Dingy, we forgot the sub frame pieces but we will get them some time! Only got rid of half the free parts I brought, and resisted the urge to feed them to the pond monsters. There's a big pile out at the curb for the garbage man in the AM! Took a nap first thing when I got home. Managed to get the most of the bugs of the scoot. Gonna have a drink and go to bed...
  13. Just spoke to Beverly at the Comfort Inn, Elyria OH, 440.324.7676. She says that she will have rooms for Venture Riders for June 19 2010, for $62.95 + taxes, for double queen, and comes with a free hot breakfast. Don't know if anyone has got this rate yet, but all you need to do is the tell her that you belong to the Venture Riders and you'll be getting that rate. Oh and she loves Motor Cycles,,,,,,,ya,,,,, Harleys, can you imagine.
  14. for those of you that have, or have had, both the 1st gen and 2nd gen bikes, how do they compare? power, comfort, handling, touring 2 up with a trailer? thanks in advance

  17. have an '06 stratoliner. thinking of purchasing an '08 venture. we' re going on a ride out to the upper west coast this summer and was wondering if the upgrade was worth it. have nothing but good things to say about the stratoliner, but was looking for more comfort on a long drive. any help would be appreciated...
  18. Hello fellow Venture Riders. It is time to replace the saddle on the 2005 Royale Star Venture from the stock seat, to something more comfortable, support and back supportive. Looking for your recommendations on this. I am 6' 1" tall with a 33" inseam. The saddle should have a removeable back rest for the long weekend tours, but is not needed during the week for in-city daily travels. Found that all your recommendations for audio/headsets were helpful this past fall, and hope for the same on this research project. Knowing that the "back side" comfort is one of personal preference, general opinion from the winter bike show seems to be recommending Saddlemen or Mustang. Corbin for some reason (may be because I'm in Canada) has not faired well in the recommendations. Thanks Here is to hoping for NO SNOW in 90 days!
  19. I went to the Fayetteville, AR rally this weekend and found my temp guage reading about 1/8" from the RED zone while at an idle. A little too close for comfort, in my openion. The outside temperature was about 82 degrees. I would like to see it stay about half way into the GREEN. Am I asking for too much?
  20. Looking for some input on driver seat, longer trip comfort. I did about 450 miles today and while I find the riding position very comfortable (Baron's Risers are terrific) the last 100 miles are pretty rough. I stopped a few times for drinks/gas but getting back on can be pretty uncomfortable especially after I've been in the upright position for a couple of hours. I wear heavy denim jeans and the most discomfort I experience is on my upper hamstrings, almost like they are worn raw. Today was pretty mild temp wise but if it was the normal 90+ degree day and I was sweating like a fire hydrant I would have wanted to walk home. I've read more than a few posts where RSV riders say it is the most comfortable bike they've ridden and doing an all day trip is not too hard on them comfort wise so I guess I'm looking for tips on improving my comfort. I like to get out there and ride until the cows come home but feeling uncomfortble on a long trip is not much fun. Is there a much more comfortable after market seat, are leathers/textile pants more comfortable, how bout a driver's back rest, worth it? Thanks for any input.
  21. Just made reservations at the Comfort Inn in Kitchener. Eileen will not make this one so my son Dylan is coming along for the ride. I would like to have stayed in one of the cabins but I have FREE rooms at Comfort and that is a strong motivator. We will not be arriving until sometime Tuesday afternoon and look forward to seeing everybody. Anybody else staying at the Comfort Inn?
  22. After taking our first long ride this past weekend, and both of our hind quarters aching a bit, is there enough of a comfort difference between the regular seats and the pillow top seats? This is to passengers too. And while I'm on it, how much of a difference is there between the stock seats and an aftermarket, corbin, mustang, etc. in terms of long term comfort?
  23. got back yesterday afternoon, wifes first trip on a bike and had a great time! Went up to Ashville to see the biltmore estate and did about 900 miles total. Pulled my new piggybacker trailor and it worked out great. Also the new riser extensions on the handlebars worked great, they totally eliminated the burning between the shoulderblades and helped with overall comfort. If anyone else gets a chance to go to Gatlinburg make sure to go to the Alamo steakhouse, that is without a doubt the best steak I have ever had!!
  24. Will a 2nd Gen Venture seat fit a RSTD? Liking the looks of the RSTD but would like a plusher seat for the Navigator. Her comfort will increase the number of miles traveled.
  25. OK guys , I want to replace the stock grips on my 86 ,Any suggestions on comfort or easiest to install , will be appriciated....Fred
