  • Bike Year and Model
77 hot rod goldwing, 83 venture royale
  1. ive been a wingnut since 92, had 2 1200s, and currently a hybrid 77 with an 1100 engine thats not even close to stock. i would not be afraid to run an 1800 at all. i have decided that my 83 VR will be for sale in a couple weeks (when we get back from our honeymoon trip) and i will be building another custom wing....starting with an 83 interstate platform........think "street glide"
  2. weve had these lil trailers at our local U Haul for a couple years now, and although the shape says "motorcycle" thats the only thing that does. they are wide, wider than some small cars, and they are heavy. i wouldnt even try it. now, if someone wanted to "borrow" that shape, and build their own, i think it would be a very attractive concept.
  3. ive used JC Whitney for YEARS, for everything from mirrors, to windshields, and i have never been let down, not once. shipping is usually fast, gets there before the date they tell you. i would say, pick what ya want, and get it.
  4. ive ridden lots of bikes over the years, and got into the touring group in the early 90's. had 2 gl 1200 wings, both great bikes, the second i owned for 12 years. never let me down. i decided last year i wanted a harley. never owned one before, and i wasnt getting any younger, so i found a wrecked 89 FLHS electra sport. i should probly mention that i build bikes (just kinda goofing off about it), and had the previous year built a stripped down, hotrodded 77 gl 1000( 1100 engine now). so, i was used to unending power, smooooooooooooth power, great handling, pull like a locomotive, and never need to be wrenched. the harley ran great, had a factory new Evo motor just before the guy wrecked it. i loved the sound, hated the shake. i loved the look, hated the handling, loved that i could ride with the HD guys too, and "fit in", HATED that i didnt stand out from the crowd anymore. i sold the bike, made a nice profit actually, paid off 2 credit cards, and bought my 83 venture royale last fall. this bike, almost as fast as my 77 wing. smooooooth unending power, but it still doesnt come close to the handling i am used to. this one wanders in the lane constantly, and in a hard corner, waffles almost as much as the harley. its time is limited.......ill build another old wing, in the harley style (batwing fairing and bags) low, loud, and FAST........and i guarantee, ill outrun the harleys, and run the twisties like a crotch rocket.
  5. so......is there a mercury switch, or bank angle sensor to this thing?
  6. my turnsignals seem to have a mind of their own. some times they work, some times they dont, the hazard switch works when the signals work. seems to me, that something with the self cancel is buggering up. is there a way to delete, bypass, remove this feature, and just have the signals work from the switch? ive ridden for years, and its habit to cancel them myself anyway, id rather just have em work when i want em to. any help??
  7. dont ya all wish ya lived here in Montana?? all bikes are licensed once, permanent, until you sell. all trailers, campers, motorhomes, boats are too. you can put perm. plates on anything older than 10 years, and never pay again as long as you own it. we do have the antique plates too....only for show cars, parades, and such. life is good in montana...............oh yeah, mid 50's all week, and im riding!!!
  8. i have a 95 HD f-250 4x4 with 206,000 on the clock (great truck by the way). these trucks use shims in the front to keep them straight. if, like mine, the miles have taken their toll, its beyond factory tollerances, and there is an aftermarket kit with an "egcentric" shape to them, and this will straighten em right out. any good front end repair shop will be able to get em for ya. they arent cheap though, couple hundred, plus install. best bet is when yer finished, get an alignment too.
  9. it was the chrome V with red painted background, for the front fender of an 86+ VR. love the piece, just cant see spending big $$$$ for one.
  10. lots of 1st gen parts on ebay right now, and ive been outbid on a front fender emblem/trim........was just wondering if someone here was after the same piece i was LOL
  11. we started to thaw a few days ago, and i took a shot at gettin past the ice on the driveway today......FIRST RIDE OF THE NEW YEAR!!!! and it was a good-un. took it out on the hiway and opened it up a bit. sure felt good....my body and mind both need alot more time in the saddle.....come on spring!!
  12. i have a 67 olds 442, had the same problem.....replaced the headlight switch, didnt help it, but the dimmer did.....and also took the ground wires off at the core support (radiator support) and cleaned em real good with a wire brush on a drill, and reattached with new screws...........all is right again
  13. let me preface this with the fact that i dont know this person, and am not passing judgement in any way, upon them. that being said, i have been in food service for almost 30 years, and a burger joint cooking with beer, is a perfect way for a cook to hide a drinking problem. so easy to not know how much is going in the food, and how much is going in the employee..........
  14. the 12th of june, Deb and I are getting married, and will be taking about a weeks ride into the black hills for our honeymoon. if you are around then, keep an eye out for a gold 83 with a "just married" sign on the back, and give a wave or a hollar ..... irydasteelhorse jeff & deb
  15. so THATS where the gas guage is!!!!.........thats the only way that G2 is gonna overtake me.....when im outta gas!!! LOL
