  1. I have a 2008 RSTD and it seems like the bike is going slower than the reading on the speedometer. It is most noticeable at highway speeds of 55, 60, 65, 70, and I'm guessing it is off 3 to 5 miles per hour too high. Has anyone run some tests to show the speed of the bike?
  2. Left work and got on it up to 4th and 50-60 MPH and remembered I didn't strap my helmet. Just took my hands off and let her coast while I did the quick strap, kept missing slot. When she slowed down, I'm guessing around 35, she started something like a tank slap. Scared the heck out of me when I grabed the controls to accel out of it. I'm guessing in 4th the engine started to lug a little to start it??? Anyway, don't try this at home boys and girls, I'm a professional - idiot!
  3. Yesterday (Saturday)...I saw a Venture ride by as I was trailering my bike back from Custer, SD, after a mechanical failure of the rear end. I am guessing (may or may not be) that it was someone coming back from Cody. My bike is the '09 Seashell/Raven that was on a trailer... Anybody see me?
  4. The factory headset cable (the one that clips to the side of the "tank cover" on my '86 VR, appears to have a short in it. The right channel comes and goes and is getting worse. Has anyone replaced this cable and what is involved? I am guessing that it might be available from Yamaha, but anyone have a known good one they want to part with? Thanks
  5. I'm not saying why I'm curious, but I have a question about the GL1800 models. GL1800 followed by HPNA or HPN or PM or P or something like that, sometimes with a 8 thrown in for good measure. I'm guessing these things are indicating what equipment they are shipped with from the factory. Can anyone tell me what those suffixes mean? Thanks,
  6. and I'm not ready. We got about 12" yesterday. Got most of the driveway cleared and the snowblower broke. I had to order a new needle bearing and bushing for for the chain drive. Amazing that nobody stocks parts for a 40 year old John Deere snow thrower any more. Now it is snowing again so I just hope we don't get too much. I'm guessing it will probably be a week before the parts arrive. Send me a needle bearing for this if you happen to have one in your pocket.
  7. My rear shock blew out on me as I was riding a couple of months ago. It sounded like I had run over an empty water bottle with the top on it. Now I am hoping there is a kit or a way to rebuild it. I'm guessing a new one from "Mama YAMA" will be pretty pricey! Any ideas? (stupid question with this group?):
  8. OK for those that saw the "Hey Bongobob" thread from Boomer CPO, there is a package coming to me this week some time per BradT's instructions. I have no idea what is being sent!! Sooo, lets have a guessing game to see who comes the closest to what I actually receive! Winner gets a Banana Split the next time (or the first time) I see them. Winner must be present with me to collect prize...
  9. This guy lives in Poland, apparently. I have PM'ed him, and left comments to no avail trying to find out more info on his pipes. I'm guessing it's gonna have to be a custom fab job, especially on a V-4. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pkn9jeU-dPU]YouTube- xv 1600[/ame]
  10. hey guys, my 06 venture is spewing raw gas from the left side exhaust, and the vent tubing under the right side air cleaner. I'm guessing a float is stuck. any ideas or thoughts ?
  11. Alright, I need some help. I'm guessing I have a fouled plug or two, but I want to see if that's the general consensus. Whenever I'm forced to ride for a while in first and second gear, say while checking out a campground as I did with my father earlier in the week, or caught in stop and go traffic for a while, my bike decides it doesn't want to run right anymore. When given gas, the thing coughs and sputters and pops, and just generally acts like it doesn't have any get-up-and-go. It still runs, I haven't had it die, but until you get into third or fourth gear, it just acts like it's a struggle to get up speed unless I really hammer it. I checked my air filters, and they both look like new, and I've been fighting the issue off and on all summer, so I throw out the thought of bad gas. I've also run a full can of Sea Foam through it to see if maybe I had some buildup somewhere, but it seemed to have little effect. I'm guessing this all works into my mpg, which at 34 on a good day seems low to me, not to mention my 28-30 normally. Am I right in thinking this sounds like a spark plug issue? I've had a couple other guys (my dad included) throw that out there, though they're about as mechanically inclined as I am. So, if the plugs are a good place to start, does anyone have (or have a link to a good walkthrough) of how to check the plugs? I'm guessing the rear two are no big deal, but unless I'm missing some serious tool it appears I have to take off my tank to get to the front ones. So far the owner's and service manuals haven't proven much help. Thanks in advance for any help & advice.
  12. It's a known thing that the speedometer in our bikes is off. It reads roughly 8 - 10% or so too high. My question is, does the odometer read that same amount off, or is it actually accurate? Some of you with a GPS should be able to answer this easily and without any guessing.
