Take the man's offer!! Goose is very knowledgeable and hard working and eager to help out! Of course another seafoam treatment followed by some new plugs will probably help out too! These are TOURING bikes and meant to be driven long distances... -
Yah! Split the fairing, follow the wires to the connector for the tape player, and reseat, clean, dielectric grease and trey again...

Not sure of aftermarkets, but stock coils are on fleabay all the time. You should read around 2.5 to 3.0 ohms on the primary and somewhere in the 200 ohm rqnge on the secondary... -
Something looked funny there so I did the math. You mean to say it would cost $250 MORE a year for a total of a little over $1100 in gas for the year...

Darn!! Sounds like I missed a good show!! Were there butterflies in it?????

Yah! We are at $3.75 - $3.85 a gallon around here and I only get 25mpg with the trike and it ain't stopping me! I dunno, maybe $10 a gallon would slow me down appreciably. Actually, around $5 is gonna do it...

165/80/15 would it work on the front ? (triked)

My solution for this year is to run an E3 rear tire in the right front size. I'll loose the WSW of the 404 but the rear tires are blackwall only as you already know. The load rating and wear of the E3's is about the best on the market. Unfortunately I won't know about the wear until next year after a season of riding... -
Yes, you need to contact a Veteran's Advocate thru the DAV, the American Legion, or the VFW. They are our friends and will go to bat for you and get you the best they can asw far as disibility benefits, and will also do what they can for further surgery you need. You can contact the VA directly to schedule surgery. Disability claims can take upwards of a year to finally settle, but if awarded you are paid from the date of initial claim. When I filed for disability from Type 2 diabeties from exposure to agent orange I was finally given 50% disability and received a check for over $10,000 back compensation...

Hmmmm, my sister's first car was a '54 Bel Air, took us 5 months to find the ashtray, and then it was by accident! Can't find many of them either!! I guess that not that many people know just how fine a ride the Venture is! We just don't have the "mistique" that the others have, just a great product with an unbelievable warranty! My sister lives in Bloomfield Hills now...

Member Dingy was selling special wrenches to get at the steering head to tighten it and it works good. You might want to contact him to see if they are still available. Of course with the age of the bike, the grease has probably solidified. You may want to consider replacing tour bearings down the road. Good time to do that is when you get around to rebuilding your front forks and upgrading them with progressive springs! Congratulations on purchasing a true classic motorcycle! Any old bike is going to require maintenance and attention but it will be well worth it!!!

Oh Oh!!! The dreadad rear shock bladder failure!! You will need to get the rear shock replaced under warranty! This is a known failure with the 2nd gen's. It should hold air indefinately...

Hmmmm, may be time to consider trike...

Until it runs, the needle valve pistons (sliders) should not move unless you manually reach down and manually move them, They should return to the stop position in a short time. A little hint, the fuel pump relay, which is more of a timer as well as a relay, will time out after 5 seconds or so until the bike starts and spark is detected. You may need to key on/key off the ignition a few times to fill the floats after setting all winter... -
A bad battery will load down the charging system causing overall lower system voltage causing the CB to not function properly but not kill the bike...

Where I am at now

Yah!! Methinks you did just about all of the free stuff to do for now!! You may want to consider replacing your headlight with a brighter one like a silverstar or Nighthawk. You may also want to remove the dash and resolder the edge connector for the CMU as the joints are old and vibration can also cause them to fail. How is your plans for adding Cruise?? You will want a harness from a VR to do this, but then everything is pretty much plug and play. The parts from '83 to '85 will just bolt on. Another inexpensive mod to do now is carefully remove the rubber Bezel from the headlight cover and clean it really good and use alcohol to remove all the oils from the rubber and then paint it gloss white using a paint designed for use on rubber. This will make a night and day difference on how bright your headlight is, and it is a lot cheaper than switching everything over to a MK2 headlight setup. Last but not least, contact Skydoc17 about the replacement fuse block mod. Change over from those nasty glass fuses that cause all sorts of intermittant problems to the modern plug in fuses!! -
Yah!! Half a can of sea foam in a tank of gas and ride it like ya stole it (or rented it) and you should be a happy camper!! Do this every other month. You should change plugs every year as well not because they will be shot, but to keep the bike running problem free!! As stated, keep the oil about half way up the site glass...
